Sad to say that this place has gone downhill. We had to search for someone to see that we were here, although the place was almost empty. We were pretty disappointed to hear that there was no coffee (at a "cafe") because of the time of day. Really? What time do people stop drinking coffee? Our waitress was calling to us from quite a distance to ask how the food was and was generally unhappy (just like last time we were here). Love that this place is run by a Filipino family, but don't serve Filipino breakfast. Their menu looks light, but you'll have plenty of options to choose from like pizzas, combos, and burgers! The parking lot is huge so parking shouldn't be a problem. They have a wide range of seating outdoors with umbrellas as it does get hot out. I appreciate that they have all milk options, almond, oat, etc. Their matcha was pure and not sweet at all which some people may like, I personally could've used a little honey or sugar. Their toast with butter and jam was AMAZING! The bread was fresh and looked homemade. The pizza wasn't precut but we were given scissors to cut (way easier than a pizza cutter). There were a lot of flies, naturally, so I wish they offered a cover for the pizza. My friend loved her combo meal and the portions were perfect! The waffles were small and everything was balanced. Not my favorite place for pastries and coffee. Went in to get a mocha and an everything cream cheese danish. I think there was a misunderstanding with my mocha because it was SO sweet and made with whole milk. The misunderstanding probably arose when I was asking if they do a toasted marshmallow on their hot chocolate or if it was whipped cream. I got an iced mocha with whole milk and no whipped cream. It was way too sweet, especially for the amount of milk and espresso ratio. The everything cream cheese danish was just okay. Not the best but will consider trying again for lunch or brunch. read more

I'm glad my friend and I ended up giving Town Bakery & Cafe a go. We wanted a bite after our hike around Lafayette Reservoir and originally I was a little skeptical because I had checked out their menu beforehand. I try to avoid dairy as much as possible and it seems a lot of their menu items consisted of dairy. But since my friend picked this, I couldn't say no to her. Town Bakery & Cafe is located right at the corner of a plaza, so plenty of parking is available. They had plenty of outdoor seating and indoor seating as well. I ended up choosing outdoor seating as a preference and their outdoor area is pretty cute. Their outdoor seating is situated in a kinda enclosed area, surrounded by a small garden. They even had lemon trees growing on the side! They also have their own coffee bar and serve their own pastries. I kinda wish I tried out their pastries before I settled on a menu item, but maybe next time! I opted to get their Avocado Toast with the fromage blanc on the side, paired with a side of salad. I also chose to try their Chai Latte with Coconut Milk. It took a bit of time for our order to come, probably because there were a lot of tables that were filled, but it wasn't quite a full house. Seems like a popular place amongst people around this area. If I lived here, I think I'd periodically come here to eat! $12.5 is pretty hefty for an avocado toast, but this was a delicious one. They were really generous with the amount of avocado, but the highlight for me has to be their sourdough toast! The toast is probably slightly buttered, so it came with a crispy exterior, but the inside was airy and still had a bite to it. I'm not sure if I'm describing it correctly, but this might be one of the better sourdough breads I've ever had. It doesn't have a sour taste to it like some sourdough has. I wish I could have bought a loaf of sourdough home, but they ran out!! As for the avocado, you can't really go wrong with it. They leveled it up with some arugula and radish, which paired nicely and added a refreshing factor to it. I had them add my fromage blanc on the side just to try a little because I'm sure for people who eat dairy, the fromage blanc would have been a great addition and added another texture to the overall toast. The fromage blanc doesn't taste heavy, and it has a slight citrus, probably lemon from their lemon trees, haha! As for the salad, I wish I also asked for dressing on the side because their salad was a bit too overdressed for me. Still fresh veggies though. Finally, for my chai latte! The design of this was kinda funny. They made a big 'X' out of cinnamon and it was a bit too much. The drink came out tasting more cinnamon-y than chai. It wasn't a bad drink, but not quite what I was expecting. Portion wise was nice though. Aside from my meal, service was okay. If spots were open, you can pretty much sit wherever. Some servers were more attentive than others. And some took the time to explain to us when we asked questions. Just some. All in all, a pretty good experience here. Avocado Toast! The to-go picture doesn't do this toast & fruit justice, but it was worth every dollar. I couldn't finish it in one sitting so I had a few bites of the toast for later. The avocado was ripe but not brown. The toast wasn't over-toasted so it was easy to bite into & didn't tare up my mouth. So much food. The fruit has at least 5 different fruits and they did a good job selecting ripe fruit. I also ordered French toast but didn't take a picture because it wasn't for me. I did taste the cream that come with it, it was really good. I'll have to give something on the menu a shot that it comes with. After a hike, we drove into Moraga for a nice leisurely lunch. We looked through Yelp and choose Town Bakery & Cafe for brunch. She could get Fried Chicken and Waffles and I could order a Combo Breakfast with Waffles, Sausage, Eggs and sides. When we arrived, the outdoor patio was pretty full. There was no obvious host/hostess. There was one empty table in front and four people standing next to it perusing the menu on the glass window. I was hoping to grab that table but another pie of guests came in from the parking lot and asked a waiter before we did. They got the table. No big deal. We stepped inside where the coffee bar was. There was one customer finishing a to go transaction. Another server sped past us saying hi as she did. We asked about a table and she said to take any available table. There were two with dirty dishes and additional guests coming. Not wanting to miss out, we chose a dirty table and sat but away from the table so it didn't look like we had just dined. An older, Asian looking man with a bus tub cleared the empty table across from us. As he walked away without making eye contact, I said excuse me. He kept going, putting down his bus tub. Meanwhile a group of four sat down. The man came back out with a cart and a towel and wiped that table. As he was walking away, my wife spoke to him and asked if he could clean our table. I don't know if he misheard or didn't understand what she said but he pointed at a female server and walked away. The female server came over and asked what we wanted. We asked if we could have the table cleared. I think at this point, she realized that the mess wasn't ours and said that she would be back. A male server brought food out to the table behind me and walked away empty handed. We waited about another four minutes and as we were getting up to leave, the female server came over with a serving platter to clean the table. She apologized for the delay. My wife told her that the staff was rude. The server replied that they were busy. We left. What's the issue here? We were looking forward to good service and good food just like everyone else. We know mistakes happen. We eat out often enough to understand that. And with the pandemic, many businesses lost customers, money and employees. When things start to come back, a business has to be on top of it's game to ensure that customers return. A host/hostess could have managed the traffic and the customers to ensure that everyone was taken care of appropriately. We would have been seated immediately at a clean table. Perhaps we should not have been told to take "any available table". The older gentleman who cleared the plates from the other table could have cleared ours for us whether the mess was ours or not. The male server who walked away empty handed after serving the next table could have picked up some of the mess. While we didn't ask him to, nor did he say, "not my section", that's not an excuse to not offer assistance to a guest. What's the expression? Head on a swivel? Anticipate the needs of your guests? There were other tables who were also waiting for service that didn't look happy. For some reason, it appeared that they chose to stay and play the waiting game. And that was just to get their order taken. Another table that was close by got all their food delivered and when asked if they needed anything else, one man said, "our drinks". The server replied, "yes, sorry, the baristas are really backed up right now. It's too bad. The restaurant was busy. The staff was moving. But the boat was going in a circle. Sorry. I was driving on Rheem Blvd. in Moraga, and I saw a cluster of red umbrellas with people in small groups. All of a sudden I realized I was hungry. So, I turn around my car and drive back to find out what is drawing people there. The place was Town Bakery and Cafe. Lots of people were drinking coffee and eating. I walked inside and on the right I noticed the pastries in the cases tempting me to their call. On the left, there were chicken eggs, wines, and different sweet breads-- ready to be consumed. I was getting hungrier by the second. I ordered Fish Tacos--beer battered Alaskan cod. I usually prefer grilled fish, but this was quite delicious. I really enjoyed this place. The food was quality and the staff was very attentive. I ordered the egg sandwich and substituted the bread for sourdough vs a croissant. Delish! Definitely get a side of the bacon, it was amazing! I dined on a Monday morning solo and the restaurant was empty as expected. Really disappointing because I want to support a local business and I really wanted to like the food. But, 2/3 of us ordered breakfast dishes with lox and they were both so SALTY. We took a few bites and just couldn't power through it (which, mind you, you should not have to do - EVER). We sent our food back and asked for versions without the lox. Not salty anymore but now just mediocre. The biggest issue for me was that the server and manager were not friendly about the situation. No smiles! More like looks of disbelief. It felt uncomfortable and I couldn't wait to get out of there. We were charged full price and this is not an inexpensive place. I was embarrassed because I suggested going here and had brought my out of town family members. Really won't be thinking about going back. It was cold inside too. read more

Working from.home has allowed me to have lunch every so often with the hubby. It's a treat to come here for lunch as they have nice outdoor seating and great food. I've had the beef burger and lamb burgers. Each come with fries and a nicely dressed side salad. Each burger is cooked perfectly and seasoned well. I have shied away from the fried chicken salad to avoid fried food but hey, I eat the fries! Maybe next time. Perhaps they have a new pastry chef because the items aren't burnt anymore. Their puff pastry items are terrific! The almond croissant is full of flakey layers and not too sweet custard topped with slivered almonds and powdered sugar. This is being added to the list of hubby's fav treats. He loves the blueberry and black and white muffin. I stopped there this morning and picked up the almond, a ham and cheese for our daughter, a berry scone and morning bun. Yum! Could have easily bought a tomato, blueberry or pear pastry. It all looked good! They staff is very nice and casual. Nice to see that their indoor seating is back. There was a beautiful little cake in the display case today. Came for weekday lunch. I ordered two sliders, the Colorado Lamb Burger slider and the Salmon slider. There was a bit of confusion from our waiter who told me that the sliders come with salad or fries.. which ended up being a disappointment when he came back (AFTER we already ordered) to say that he was wrong and the sliders don't come with anything at all. The lamb slider ($7.00) was good, the patty was bit dry though. I barely tasted any of the roasted garlic aioli in it, but maybe that was because the yogurt-dill-feta sauce was overpowering. The salmon slider ($6.50) had a nice thick piece of salmon in it. Very juicy and well seasoned. The only downside to this was that it was supposed to come with alfalfa sprouts but they put arugula on instead. (I don't see how it's that hard to mess up since there's only 3 or 4 ingredients in the slider.) Good flavors, but a little expensive for sliders (without any sides). This place was packed so I expected great things. Unfortunately, it was a pretty underwhelming experience. We got seats inside and were provided water and menus immediately. Things went down hill from there. No one looked or talked to us for nearly 10 minutes. The waitreess who finally took our order didn't look up from the mobile POS terminal she was carrying, and then never came back. The food took nearly 30 mins to come, and when it did the greens in my salad were interspersed with rotted leaves and cucumbers. I'm reading other reviews and supposledly this place is farm to table? These greens were not farm to table. They were "sitting in the fridge too long and no one checked before using them." No one came by to ask how things were and eventually i just ate the quiche Lorraine and skipped the salad because I was starving at that point. We flagged down the same waitress after another 30-40 mins - no one cleared out plates in the meantime - and asked for the check. Heads down on the same POS module. I pointed out the expired greens for her to share with the kitchen and she didn't even acknowledge, just told us total and asked for our cards to pay on the POS in her hand. No apology, no offer to make it right, no discount. The food that wasn't expired was fine. The latte was great. But, the service is just awful. I know everyone is struggling with staffing, but the answer is seat fewer people, not leave the masses to fend for themselves. read more

My family and I LOVE Town and this review is way overdue. We eat here at least once a month, and sometimes a couple times per week (eating in and taking away). Their coffee and pastry are delicious. Their full meal items are also very yummy and the ingredients are always high quality. Our favorites ... chicken and waffles, pancakes, BLTA on a croissant. Town also catered our baby shower last summer and did a wonderful job. Sliders, fruit salad (full of the good fruit, too!), taco bar, and a fresh salad. They were easy to work with, communicative, and the cost was very reasonable for the quality of food we got. Our guests were very happy! I had some time between medical appointments and thought I would get breakfast here. I was very pleased with the prompt service and excellent food. I ordered the Combo plate. It comes with eggs your choice, I had the Apple Chicken Sausage and two quarters of a Belgian Waffle. Fruit was one of the sides I chose. The sausage was delicious, the waffles were crisp but light and airy. Presentation of my food was very aesthetically pleasing. My only gripe was the coffee. What is better than a sunny warm morning in our little town of Moraga? How about a delicious breakfast on Town Bakery and Cafe's front patio sitting in the sun! Dropped off our car with the fantastic folks at Moraga Motors and took a short walk to this cozy restaurant tucked into the corner of the strip mall across the street from the historic Moraga theater. We split a sausage, mushroom and cheese omelette. Very good! We also split an amazing beef burger with fries. The burger was perfectly seasoned and cooked expertly. It was juicy and the grilled onions gave it yummy umami. The mimosas had fresh squeezed oj, very refreshing. Such lovely people working there, sweet and attentive. The staff is friendly, helpful, and they will wait on you at your table. The parking lot has ample parking (on the property and off) of Rheem Boulevard. Condiments are distributed according to CDC recommendations. Yummy jam, hot sauce, etc. Waffles are well done, fruit ample, the flavor and texture of the veggie omelette is eggactly what I had hoped. If you're looking for delicious fried chicken and waffles, try this place out! The waffle is super fluffy and tasty, while the chicken has a crunchy exterior and deliciously juicy interior, as they seem to be using dark meat. Moreover, what brings this dish together is the sweet chili sauce they serve this with. I love how the dish comes together with the surprisingly tasty sweet chili sauce they have, which offers a nice, little, unique spin to your typical fried chicken and waffles. As for the service, it was quite slow so I would not recommend coming here if you feel hungry. We didn't get our food until another 40 minutes had passed from the time we ordered, and the place was not extraordinarily full either since we came during a weekday. I'm confused by the very high rating for this place - service here is painfully slow - make sure you have a lot of time to sit and wait. While the staff is trying hard - it's complete chaos. People are either waiting a very long time for food, waiting a long time for the check, or waiting for their credit card to be processed. And once you get your food it may not all come out - after waiting over 30+ mins for our food my husbands eggs arrived at least 5 mins before his pancake. We tried to speed up the check processing time by going to the cashier, but that did nothing - we had to wait while the cashier to ring up other cards. Regarding the chaos - we observed multiple bills being dropped off at wrong tables (this happened to us) and multiple food items being dropped off and returned (again us) because it was the wrong table. The prices are on the high side for breakfast (both quality and quantity), you can find cheaper and more satisfying options in Lafayette. Last thing, the syrup served in a traditional yellow mustard container was very unappetizing. read more
