Dr. Lee and Henry are a wife and husband team at Town Eyecare. Dr. Lee is super nice and Henry is the Fashion Guru of Glasses! Town Eyecare has the best and most unique selection of frames that come from all over the world. I've worn glasses for most of my life and hardly ever did I receive a compliment on my glasses. However, after coming here and having Henry guide my selection for the last few years, I constantly get compliments on my glasses. I always look forward to coming here to get glasses every year (even if my insurance doesn't always cover it). Henry really embraces the philosophy of wearing glasses proudly, instead of attempting to hide them, and he is great at selecting frames for you based on the shape of your face, skin color, and profession. You have to be willing to go out of your comfort zone and let him make suggestions for you; you'll be pleasantly surprised! If you wear glasses all of the time, you'll have to have a thick skin when you first go to Town Eyecare. You'll have to be prepared for Henry's critical assessment of the glasses that you bought elsewhere (LOL). The first time I walked into Town Eyecare (with my boyfriend who was pickiing up his glasses there), Henry criticized the glasses I was wearing; he articulated exactly why the glasses weren't good for me, and he was right. After that, I was so self-conscious of wearing my ugly glasses that I decided that I needed to go back to Henry and get new ones. Town Eyecare was recommended to me by a couple people at work, who are known for wearing great glasses. These two folks at work have recommended and sent so many of my co-workers to go to Town Eyecare, that we could start our own club! I have recommended Town Eyecare to several of my co-workers, who've complimented my glasses, since I started going there a few years ago. Fashionable glasses do come at a price, so if you have poor eyesight like me and need progressive lenses for distance as well as reading, thinner lenses, and anti-reflective coating, be prepared to spend around $700 (or $900-1,000 if your insurance doesn't cover glasses). The first time I bought glasses there my insurance didn't cover it, so when I mentioned it to Henry he gave me a little discount just to be nice. In my experience, their prices are on point with most privately owned optometrists; only the huge franchises seem to sell the cheaper glasses. Having purchased glasses at both types of optometrists, I have to say that the quality and selection of the glasses and the service at Town Eyecare are more than worth it! Even though there were limited reviews about this place, the quality of rating allowed me to trust my fellow yelpers. After years of going to ForEyes for examination and purchasing their products, I now feel like I have been missing out. Dr. Sumi Lee was very thorough with the examination in which took almost an hour. After, she gave a detail explanation of my exam in which is a service I never received at ForEyes. I would usually get the 10 minute examination treat followed by "see you next time". The expense was the same as ForEyes. However, I did have to travel a bit farther than I would normally do. On the upside, it is worth the travel time. As far as purchasing contacts, I prefer to order my prescription online. On the other hand, I will be going in to see the selection of glasses since the fit is important. If you are around town, get your eye exam done here. read more

I've purchased 2 pair of eyeglasses and one pair of sunglasses from this store and I have not been disappointed. I've always had difficulty finding the right frame for my face shape, but they offer a great selection. Town Eyecare certainly isn't budget friendly, but they deal with high end merchandise and are very knowledgeable about what they are selling. I came in on a Wednesday, and I was a walk-in with a wait time of maybe five minutes. The eye exam took roughly a half hour, and I received my one-year supply of contact lenses on Friday. The optometrist made sure my prescription was accurate and that my lenses fit comfortably. She also informed me of the $250 rebate Acuvue was offering for customers who purchase from them. I received mine in a few days. This place is quick and efficient while still accommodating to your needs. They do not try to sell you more than you need. I recently went here for some new glasses on a whim since they were close to work. I have never had as great an experience buying glasses over the last 30 years. Henry and Dr. Lee are great, and will really go the extra mile for you. Though Henry might push you to a style you aren't necessarily comfortable with initially, give it a shot. I was skeptical, but now I couldn't be happier. Something else you might not necessarily notice is that they sell top quality frames here. Stuff you won't find at your local pearl or lens crafters; like Mykita and ic! Berlin. Steel frames handmade in Germany, not cheap plastic garbage churned out by the hundreds of thousands in China. I've been going here a few years now and it is one of the better optometrists around. First of all, it helps if you have eye insurance. I have VSP which helps defer the cost a little. Dr. Lee is very friendly and calming. Appointments seem to flow very quickly with little to no wait. Usually I go during lunchtime and have not experienced any problems. I've also gone at night with similar results. I like that there is no sales pressure here. They won't even recommend the most expensive option and give various options. Henry is the glasses (frames) expert. He is quick to pick out styles to match your face. For example, I have a pretty big head. I always have problems finding glasses and sunglasses that fit my face and don't completely warp the frames. #bigheadproblems Anyway, Henry found a few frames that were very light and bendable. I love these glasses. I can't even feel them on my face and they aren't a pain in the butt like some glasses I have worn. I highly recommend this place. Henry is the Ollivander of glasses. Seriously. He'll take good look at your face, then start moving around the shop, pulling frames off the wall and trying them on you. He pulls mirrors from the ceiling, like magic, and when he finds your frames, he knows it. They might be different than you expected, may take a moment to get used to, but trust Henry's sense. Henry is wonderful. You will never go anywhere else once you go here. Henry looks at your face carefully and selects glasses based on that. He likes color. But he will go subdued if that is your style. He is more like a personal designer. Yes, it is magical like Ollivanders for a wand. That is the best description that I can repeat. He pulled 3 pairs of frames for me from the whole store. When I asked if there were any other ones, he confidently said no, he would not recommend any other ones. I initially chose Town Eyecare for a visit solely based upon their amazing Yelp reviews. I have to say that after making multiple visits now for both myself and my husband that their rating is well-deserved. Dr. Lee and Henry (I believe Dr. Lee's husband) own and run this office, so any time you call or stop in you will be speaking to one of the two. They clearly put their heart and soul into this practice. I have to echo other reviewers' sentiments - it is really hard to find a good doctor of any variety these days, who will still take the personal time with you to make your visit their priority. Even just for an initial screening, Dr. Lee will spend an hour with you making sure EVERY concern that you have is addressed. I've never seen such a meticulous doctor. If you do need glasses, or just need to pick out new frames, Henry will help you to do so (though, his tastes definitely do not run to mine - he will help you to find the new trendy styles, and I'm more of a boring librarian type for my glasses). They will follow up when your glasses arrive (within a week, usually quicker) and again sit with you to customize your frame and make sure it fits your head when you pick them up. Oh, and they give you candy. And a gift bag full of glasses goodies. Everything short of a hug, really, which I'm sure they'd also give you if you asked! The shop is very conveniently located in the Toys R Us parking lot on Butterfield, as a part of the plaza. They have a large variety of frames to choose from, and the office is always clean and comfortable. Even though they do a pretty steady business, you rarely have to wait for service because they are so quick and efficient. Also, when you call, you are typically able to get in within a day or two. They do also accept VSP insurance, which covers the visit entirely, and most of a new pair of frames unless you're looking at the really expensive designers (in which case, you get a big discount). I really can't say enough about this practice - definitely check them out if you're looking for a new eye doctor or are jaded with your current practice! read more

Small and unassuming from the outside, but don't be fooled. Reminds me of some the small out-of-the-way boutiques in NYC. Selection was like nothing I'd ever seen in Chicago. Plus, the service was extraordinary. The gentleman who helped me pick out frames spent nearly and hour with me. He was very knowledgeable of facial structures and which frames and colors worked best. I shopped several stores to find what I was looking for: a unique, quality frame, not too funky or trendy but flattering and right for me. I found it here at Town Eyecare. They stock funky, trendy, stylish and upscale frames in comparison to the eyecare chains. But do not be afraid, the selection works for everybody. Cost is perhaps a bit higher, maybe no. Henry is talented in selecting frames that work for your features. I had a problem with the RX that a different provider wrote for me, Town Eyecare solved the problem for me effectively and I could not be happier or more satisfied. Simply put, go here if you want to have a detailed eye exam where the optometrist will actually spend the time to explain things to you. This is a small family owned store, owned and operated by the husband & wife pair, who are both extremely nice! I know LensCrafters is only a couple of stores down, but they make everything so impersonal it's always just a drag of an experience. Dr. Lee spent 1 hour examining both of us, even though they could've easily finished both of us in 30 minutes. I especially liked the fact that even though I was found to have slight astigmatism, they didn't push me to buy prescription glasses with them! Thank you guys!! I stumbled upon Town Eyecare during summer 2010 after leaving a nearby store. I ventured in and Henry spent considerable time helping me select frames. I wasn't in the market at THAT time, but referred a friend who was VERY impressed and purchased two pair of glasses. Now I've returned and received an eye exam from Dr. Lee and, of course, selected frames. The place was buzzing with a variety of customers (children, teens, young adults, older adults). Everyone appeared to be served in timely manner and it was clear there were many repeat customers. The exam was great. I wasn't surprised that Dr. Lee uses some computer generated instruments to explain the health of your eyes in addition to determining your prescription. Then it's off to Henry who simply has a great eye for what looks good on you based on the shape of your face, tone of your skin, your age, hair style, etc., etc. If you're going for a different look (retro vs. funky) then just let him know... and he'll help you find the style. My first visit to Town Eyecare was everything I expected it to be and more. I know they carried contemporary frames from France and other countries, which is what drew me to their shop. What will bring me back is the style consulting! They helped me quickly find styles that worked with my face shape, my personal style, and complexion. This is not Lens Crafters, people! Yesterday, Henry suggested a pair of frames and by gosh, the first pair of daily frames were perfect. I couldn't believe that on first choice, the man picked out a pair of frames that made me look ten years younger, complimented my facial features and enhanced my appearance, but then, his style sense is impeccable.
