My first time here with two friends after catching a movie across the street at the Capitol. What a delight--so many unique sandwiches to choose from! The Black and Beer take on a Reuben that two of us had was delicious--the ciabatta roll a nice change from the usual rye. And the fries? Above average. The fried haddock sandwich my other friend had was on the money, too. Service was efficient and friendly, nothing to complain about there either. So glad I finally discovered this neighborhood pub--I'll be back for sure. Forgot to mention that they have a real commitment to reducing waste and plastics. My take-home leftovers were in a paper box that with a wipe-out of some grease on the bottom goes into paper recycling. OK, so recycling is in a big mess these days but it is far better than anything plastic! Our waitress told us they reduce plastics wherever they can. I wish more restaurants made this commitment. Really great food for pub fare! We enjoyed the live music on a Saturday night and very tasty drinks. Service was a bit slow since the area around the music was packed; our server was friendly but seemed to have a lot of tables to take care by herself. It was a rainy movie night and my son and I were early. We ducked into this restaurant to get a quick bite and get out of rain. It was a wide open roomy place. Well lit. Modern for s tavern. With a tight time line the host sat us after a few minutes. Little self imposed anxiety. The waitress got to us. We ordered a beer and a soda. For food we ordered dumpling appetizers. The beer made it and eventually the dumplings. The dumplings were good. I didn't get plates but it didn't matter we made it work out. So far the place was ok. It was all about to change when the burgers came out. I had bacon cheddar half pound perfectly cooked excellent meat. Right from the first bite I knew it was going to be special. My son had bacon American. He loved his as well. Here was the clincher. The French fries. Hand cut and perfectly prepared. Being carb conscious I wasn't going to eat them. I normally don't. I ate them all. I told the host/manager as I left that the fries were awesome. He told me they spend a lot of time on the fries. It shows and I will be back for the burger and fries. If you need a place to meet during lunch during the week, this is the place to go. Had 18 family members after cemetary visit and made reservations. Natalie was great taking info sharing parking directions. She was at the door when we arrived and gave us a room to ourselves. Food was perfect, sandwiches and salads. Natalie took care of everything and couldn't be more attentive. Not knowing this area, chose this restaurant from Yelp because of reviews and made a great choice. I went back with family this time after almost 2 years. First time I had gone with a friend and chatted for hours at the bar with food and drinks. Lovely food. I complimented the chef who came out twice with my Son's demand of this sauce or that drink. They were even happy to give me a small portion of extra quinoa as I thought the amount on my dish was not enough! How sweet! Waitress was great and we had a great chat. We've been here a few times now and have really mixed feelings. The food and service have been pretty good. The food is a little more interesting than your typical tavern fare, and the portions are generous. It's definitely a family friendly type place, but the kids menu is a little ridiculous. They used to have a great pizza option on the kids' menu but for some reason they took it off. They now charge $8 for a rather anemic looking hot dog and a bag of chips, which seems pretty ridiculous. I'm not sure if the other kid's menu options are a better value, and we will probably try again, but I wish they would bring back the pizza or charge a more reasonable amount for the hot dog. read more

Seriously delicious EVERYTHING and just about the nicest, most genuine service in the Boston area! This neighborhood gem should be on your worth-the-trip list. Innocuous looking from the outside, comfortable inside with a kitchen that elevates food like a chicken caesar salad, fried chicken, skewered shrimp - even sides like broccolini, fries and slaw - to gourmand levels without the crazy vanity pricing. And clearly the back of the house and the front of the house are in competition to see who can be "better" - foo-foo level service from down to earth, friendly, not in your face but so helpful people bring the whole experience full circle. No parking but it's Mass Ave. After 2 drives around secured a spot on a side street. Decor is simple and a little dull. Bar is very small, maybe about 10 seats. They do have some high tops. Good amount of televisions. They need to pipe in some louder music. All you could hear was muffled noises. Bathroom needs a upgrade and it's unisex( dude before me left the seat up with piss all over it) Gross. Ordered bud light and it was flat- wait staff attentive and order a different beer( not draft) I got 2 appetizers. The dumplings( like old hard meatballs wrapped in a won ton) not good. The food was delicious. The staff was SUPER friendly & comfortable. The ambiance was a bit off for a Tavern. We all had burgers. The Tavern Burger was amazing. The fries did NOT disappoint. The brownie sundae was out of this world yummy. Our only request was to make it feel like a Tavern. Drop the lighting, darken it up, make it more rustic. Not a dive, but a tavern or a pub. It was 8:20 and the place was emptying out because the lighting screamed "Closing Time". It didn't feel like a place to hang out for long. Food is delicious and not typical pub food, but if you want that it's on the menu as well. We've been here several times since they opened. Fried chicken sandwich is delicious. Crispy but light, very good. Beef dip is smallish, but it's a portion that fills you without over stuffing yourself, and flavor is filled with Mongolian spices. The fluffy steamed buns add interest. Black and Blue sandwich is sinfully delicious. Chicken La Mesa salad has the same fried chicken as the sandwich; I prefer to ask for it with Romain lettuce instead of iceberg. It's filling and generous portion, Love this salad. Burgers are a solid choice. Buffalo wings - spicy and crisp, delicious. Shrimp poppers - great presents and flavors Haddock Sandwich or Haddock plate - light batter, what appears to be homemade tartar sauce, fries. Not greasy even though it's fried. Stir fry soba noodle dish - good option if you don't want the pub fair; flavorful and filling. Fries are thick cut and crisp. Very good. Service is usually good, some waiters are more friendly than others, but they get the job done. Craft brew with Night Shift and Lord Hobo taps on rotation offer a good mix for local craft brews. We are psyched this place is here! Only con - that yellow paint on the outside. Maybe It will grow on us because the food outshines it. read more

I sat at the bar and didn't find the staff to be overly friendly and there was some sort of show about kids with hairlip getting surgery which was a little off putting. I don't usually give 5 stars to a restaurant, but finally my prayers have been answered in finding a restaurant that offers good food, decent portions, at a fair price and close to home. My husband and I went to Town Tavern for lunch and I had the fish and chips and he had the Capitol salmon. Both dishes were very tasty. The fish had a nice batter applied which was not too airy or soggy. The chips appeared hand cut and were tasty as well. The owner named Bootsie was very friendly as was the wait staff. This restaurant offers a kids menu as well for those of you with small kids. The only con to this place was the parking. There is no parking in the back of the restaurant just on the side streets and on Mass. Ave. We did't have any problem with parking since we went on a Monday at around 11:45 a.m. Remember, don't be fooled, this isn't your traditional pub grub restaurant like the other tavern down the street (you know who you are.) Meals at this tavern are done with an unusual twist. Also, flatbreads are offered as well as monthly specials. Can't wait to go back! read more

Town Tavern has always been a great place to go for a good meal and a craft beer - we have had several great meals there and the food is always delicious. We wanted to support them during COVID so we ordered delivery (which is free right now) on a Sunday night. We were totally wowed by the super fast service!! Food arrived in about half the estimated time and was still piping hot when we took it out of the containers. The fried chicken sandwich is just SO good and we enjoyed the hot wings and burger as well. Great fries! So glad we ordered! read more

Greeted almost immediately and seated with a quick response to drink requests, Mike (bartender/server etc.) was super friendly and got our drinks to us in like 2 seconds. Started with a delicious fried clam appetizer with a great aioli and our entrees were great- I had a fried chicken sandwich and she had a pastrami while the kid got a cheeseburger. Went here with a friend on a Sat afternoon. She had a burger which she said was one of the best she's had. I had a delicious pastrami sandwich. Shared a pumpkin bread pudding for dessert. Yummy.
