had a late lunch here with friends for the first time. i ordered the mediterranean salad sans cheese, my friend had the butternut squash 'tartine' and her husband had the chopped salad. we ate at the island; it was fairly busy @2pm. i guess when we walked in, and this was our first time, it wasn't that clear cut--do we look for a host to seat us? do we seat ourselves? no, and yes. you place your order at the counter, get a number, find a seat and your food is brought to you. if the logistics on how to order were clearer, it would be helpful. back to the food: everything we ordered was great. the butternut squash tartine won first prize with the frizzled brussels sprouts. i loved my mediterranean salad--especially the crispy chickpeas. food was brought out quickly and our two salad bowls were chilled--a nice touch. water was self served and salt/pepper avail when requested. a light filled space, clean and comfortable, not cramped. everything is also avail to go, and their house coffee, i was told, is epic. tbd later. breakfast items are also available and look promising. if you have not been...try it! read more

Came here on a beautiful afternoon and sat in their cafe. I was brought my Golden arch latte and salad to eat and they had staff coming around to check if we needed any silverware to enjoy our pastry. They have an event space in the back of the space for events and it is definitely a beautiful area to have a coffee and spend time with friends. read more

Today l wanted to get out of the parking space and I couldn't. Someone blocked me for 15-20 mins honked their horn at me several times. I couldn't get out of the parking space until I screamed at them to let me out of it and I had to video tape them. They complained about me to a worker and that worker didn't apologize to me they apologized to the costumer who complained about me which I thought was so rude. That picture that I just uploaded is proof that someone blocked me out of the parking space and I couldn't get out of it. The coffee is the best coffee that I have ever had. So is the scrambled eggs for those two reasons I go back to Towne and Oak. The food and iced coffee is 10 out of 10. read more

Finally made the drive up to Winnetka just to check out this place and I'm so glad I did! Hands down the best breakfast sandwich I've had anywhere. The croissant is so buttery and flakey and I could probably eat a whole pound of the bacon. It's perfectly crisp chewy at the same time. The inside is bright and airy and there's a few tables outside as well. We ordered at the counter and found seating and they brought our order to the table. Make a day of it and hit the lagoons while you're in the area! read more

I joked with my friend I wanted to meet in Wilamette to get a Home Alone fix. She picked the right place! They went all out and we even tried Kevin's Mac and cheese. My Mexican bowl was excellent and had I not been there for lunch on a workday, the wine looked pretty stellar. Stumbled upon this spot and LOVED everything about it. Workers were super nice and helped me try the lavender matcha drink which was excellent. If you go, you MUST try the homemade biscuit it literally melts in your mouth with their jam. My mouth is watering just thinking about it. The interior is beautiful, perfect for a party venue when COVID is over. The only downside is that it's a bit pricey ($6 for my drink) but that's to be expected with cute new coffee shops! COVID precautions: masks were required and enforced well. Social distancing was mandatory and staff made sure all customers were let in and out at a safe pace. read more

Guys. This is the spot!! Towne and Oak is the most beautiful spot I've been to in a while. Their menu includes a variety of cafe beverages (coffee, tea and espresso drinks) + a deliciously curated food selection. I paid Towne and Oak a visit just a few days after they opened and I fell in love. Everyone was so friendly and the space was so open and bright. I really enjoy all of the natural light this place has. I can tell there was a lot of attention to detail when design this shop. I can't wait for indoor dining to be a thing again so I can snag a window seat and work while sipping on a yummy latte. I can't wait to be back! So my husband came home from here just raving and I couldn't wait till he brought me, today was the big day. While he'd still probably come home raving, he is picking apart small details. Following is our shared opinion: There are a couple of tables outside, it would be great if there was more outside seating, obviously there are space limitations. But once inside, all is forgotten about the lack of outside space, it is beautiful and uncluttered clean lines, mostly black and white with a pop of color, a decidedly elegant decor. So many lovely seating options, a counter that surrounds a tree! We almost always pay for our food and drink, dine, THEN have our coffee when we're finished eating. They were unable to accommodate that request. Bothered my husband more than it bothered me. I simply ordered and paid for my coffee after breakfast. Speaking of breakfast, I felt there was a large selection with more than enough vegetarian/pescatarian choices. The miso glazed salmon bowl was pretty exceptional. I also thoroughly enjoyed my decadent croissant breakfast sandwich, filled with oozing ingredients, my husband likes his bread crispier but I thought it was perfect. We also disagreed about the coffee, while I thought it (latte with oat milk and 1 shot of sugar free vanilla - mine) was smooth and yummy and just the right temp, he thought it (usual espresso - his) was better than some but not great. I do have a pet peeve with food/drinks being served in/on paper but if that doesn't bother you it isn't a problem; at least they use high quality paper goods. Plentiful number of capable staff. Street parking. Will likely return. read more

Nice spot, food is good, but it is VERY NOISY! Literally every surface in the place is hard -- no upholstery, few pillows if any -- and the sound just bounces around. Hard to have a conversation with my friend across a small cafe table when the place was half full, I cannot imagine what it's like when every table is occupied. So two stars for ambiance, four stars for food adds up to three stars. Scrambled eggs were perfect, creamy but not undercooked. Three nice slices of toasted country bread, half an avocado, jam and butter that wasn't rock hard. The mocha latte was large and delicious. Staff was very attentive and served and cleared our plates quickly. Hope they install some sound absorption panels on the ceiling and undersides of the tables. read more

aesthetic: 5/5 food: 5/5 service: 4.5/5 towne and oak is a beautiful cafe that serves amazing drinks!! i ordered an iced lavender matcha latte w almond mylk, while my friend got a warm chai. the matcha was clump-free and tasted SO good; i was sad when i realised that i finished my drink too quickly :') the chai was perfectly sweetened and had a layer of frothy foam on top too. we loved how quickly the drinks came out, and even though they weren't served in the ceramic glassware (docking 0.5 stars for that since most other cafes have that option now), the to-go cups' packaging looked just as pretty as the shop itself. in addition, we thought it was so relaxing to just chill out in here to catch up and hide from the chicago cold. not only is it quiet enough (+ has outlets) for getting work done, but also i couldn't stop obsessing how nice the natural lighting here is, with the giant floor-to-ceiling windows, hip light installations, and fall-coloured flowers decorating the doorway. towne and oak is definitely one of the best matcha spots in chicago!! it's slightly out of the city, but 100% worth it if you're looking to make the trip slightly up north for some a+ coffee drinks and aesthetic interior photos for the ig!! read more

5 stars for food / 1 star for sustainability = 3 stars I've been to Towne and Oak twice now, and it's truly lovely. The restaurant has a bright, airy feel, and the food is delicious. My husband and I have tried the BLT, avocado toast, breakfast sandwich, and the grain bowl--they're all great. My only real complaint about Towne and Oak is this: whether you dine in, or take your food to go, everything is served in a to-go container. The drinks are served in plastic cups, the food is served in plastic or waxed cardboard containers, the single-use plastic straws are wrapped in filmy plastic wrappers, and all of the single-use plastic silverware is similarly packaged in plastic film. A few of the containers actually appear to be recyclable, but when your meal is finished...there's a big garbage can for the pile of detritus that remains when you're done eating. I felt so bad throwing it all away that I actually thought about carrying the recyclables home with me. I want to love this place...but I really wish they were more sustainable! read more

To begin with, the food presentation is reminiscent of food as portrayed in a Pieter Bruegel painting: lush, full and bountiful, enticing the appetite immediately. Towne and Oak's menu oscillates from vegan to omnivore, providing the ultimate menu for the Flexitarian gathering. I have been there on two occasions, and have been pleased with the level of service and food quality. They are consistent in delivering delicious, high quality brunch menu items, and the venue is bright and happy. I wish they reinforced the rule about single people taking and entire long table to do work there for hours - but I guess they can't upset regular customers. When we were the last time they took extra care to box and wrap some cookies that we bought for a gift, and it was very sweet. I'd recommend this place for a relaxing and delicious brunch with friends and family. read more
