Customer service is horrible! I've been going to Toy Mandala for years and have made many purchases there. We called ahead of time to ask if they buy Pokémon cards and they said they do, so I rushed over after work on my only early day. The sales person gave me about three seconds of his time to shuffle through my cards without even looking at them, in a dim lit store and stated "I'm good." Super dismissive and rude. I've come here many times over the past ten years living in the valley, and I used to recommend it a lot to people looking for comics, and collectibles--basic nerd stuff, you know. But today I had a bad experience and I just don't think I can recommend this place to people anymore. First of all, I was really surprised to walk in and find that this place doesn't have any Western comics or superhero related merch anymore. You may find one or two odd items, but the major focus here is Pokemon, pokemon, pokemon. There's a selection of anime figures, as well as some random gaming consoles in the cases, but it isn't very apparent what is for sale, and what is only on display. They also do carry many options for gundam kits, but alas, they mark them up significantly from other retailers within driving distance, so I can't even say they have that going for them. So long story a little longer, I wandered around this shop for maybe five or ten minutes, before deciding that there was nothing for me, but on my way out I spotted a specific statue in a case in the front of the store, and it was something I was prepared to purchase on sight. I asked the employee for the price, and he seemed to want to work really hard to not find the price for me. He told me that he needed to find the box, but when I told him I didn't even need the box, he said that it was the only place the price was listed for the item. He then proceeded to silently send a text, and type on the computer while I waited. I felt like he was hoping I would just wander away before he had to find the price. Eventually, through heavy sighs, he told me that the item was selling for "like a hundred bucks", which is about twice what it goes for online, but then he proceeded to tell me that the items in that display are on hold for some formless "us". Why wouldn't you just put a sign that says "not for sale"? Why do the song and dance of pretending to find a price instead of telling me it wasn't for sale? At the end of it, I was left feeling like he could probably have sold me the statue, but it would have required him to get up and find the box and actually make the sale, all things that he didn't seem interested in doing. It was the hardest someone has ever worked to NOT sell me an item I was ready to pay a fair price for. It just didn't make sense and left me with a nasty taste in my mouth. read more

I wanted to like this place. I have spent well over $2K here in recent months, and only recently did someone point something out to me when opening packs from this location. Multiple instances of "sealed" boxes having the wrong glue or shrink wrap, and on two of the boxes, the opening had clearly been opened (wrinkles in the cardboard where it had been peeled open), and two types of adhesive on the seal. I realized that anytime I was buying higher value items, the clerks would say "Let me see if we have it in the back" and then they'd come back with a differently sealed version than what is on display. I wanted to test this theory and asked them to give me the display one and they flat out refused, when all they'd have to do is move the post-it from that box to another one. If you're going to buy ANYTHING Pokemon, stick to graded cards (only PSA, they have some weird deal with a guy that works at a local card grading service), and always look up the pricing on pricecharting.com, because they mark everything up by about 300%. Shame on a small business like this for taking advantage of good customers. Will never shop here again. read more

Pretty cool narrow shop with okay prices. I've mostly only stopped through to browse, but never find a great deal... at least not yet... They do have seasonal sales year around like 50% off board games. They do stock some fun unique collectibles, a ton of pop dolls from anime and 90s shows I'm pretty nostalgic for... I feel like this location needs a revamp and maybe a better section. Very easy going knowledgeable staff ready to assist or sale. Street parking is tough, definitely worth passing through. Went into spend money, walked out with intentions to never return. I called & asked about cards & they said they had plenty & when arriving I was as quick to learn that 3/4th of their inventory was not for sale. The employees were rude & condescending. My girlfriend's stuffed bear had been marked up to $50 by another employee when brought to the register even though the cashier had confirmed that the price 35$ as marked on the tag(photo attached) Not sure what kind of business has not for sale items on display and marks up items at registers but definitely a business I won't be spending money at. Im rating this place a five star for these reasons : Good comments : The hype they gave me about this place was actually real. I was glad there was plenty enough of Pokémon collection such as booster packs, boxes & tins ( Now on days you can't find stuff at target or Walmart but this is the place ). The people are great and a lot of variety stuff you could buy . Love that they had old Pokémon card collection on display and other amazing stuff. They are on their game on health guidelines. I had asked nicely and told him Im not familiar with the new prices update and would like to know how much they sell their packs because the signs weren't big enough to see and every spot sells them different. Now to opening the SINGLE ETB i received it comes with 8 packs of Evolving skies The foil wrap on the cards was extremely loose compared to normal packs when comparing to other evolving skies packs i have you can see the attached photo shows the difference Finally, i opened the packs and out of the 8 packs i received no cards higher than a Holo Rare. i have been opening ETB's for years and NEVER have i had such a terrible pull rate not to mention this set Evolving Skies is packed with excellent cards there is no way that this ETB was an unopened original box. Love this place!! Have been going for ten years and can't get enough! The star of this shop is Dustin, he totally gives the best customer service to everyone and is extremely knowledgeable on products and all the wonderful anime! (He also has some dope tattoos!) super helpful every time I come in and with there updated inventory and T-shirt I get to rock some cool looks while out on the town! Their DJ is dope and the store has a great energy (especially with Dustin there). The owner KC is a great dude super fun when he is there and always making sure the store is stocked and updated!! Took our kiddo to buy him Pokemon cards as a treat. When we arrived, we saw a woman brought her teenage son in without a mask. The boy wanted to put a mask on. The mom said "doesn't matter" & basically told him he didn't need one. The store worker saw this and did nothing. They helped him buy stuff instead. We don't feel safe bringing our unvaxxed kid here (he's too young for the shot) anymore. So, we left. Such a shame to see this local store make such lame business decisions. read more

Went here on a Monday, wasn't packed. Their shirt collections are nice, copped 2! They were fairly priced and are really good quality. Further down the store you'll see their anime figure collection and it's definitely vast. They have many i haven't seen at other anime stores and were also priced fairly. The prices didn't seem to be as high as others have mentioned here. Overall a really dope store that I'll definitely be coming back to! read more

I'm only giving them 2 stars cause the employees were very nice and tried to be accommodating but that owner or manager, whoever they are, really sucks. Half of the stuff in the store isn't for sale, or insanely overpriced, they say they'd be willing to trade cards but when you ask about a certain card they say "na, can't trade. they had a whole case of cards and I only asked about 2 and they were priced super high. The owner or manager wouldn't even look me in the eye he had to have his employees talk to me. Staff is helpful but the place seems a little too over crowded also at times. Also they have cool collection but prices seems a bit just because it's all novelty. And service seems pretty slow and also prices are not really worth buying figures your. Better of buying from Anime Jungle LA much more selection and very attentive staff. Alot of people have issues with the store because they are over looking one of the biggest things the store offers. ANIME!! I first went there in January for my boyfriends birthday to get a present. They had trigun, rah-zephon and alot of full anime collections for a reasonable price. The people who work there were kind, and very help full. Let me explain this shop it a nutshell. Cool product, cool shop, terrible prices. Pokemon products have been going nuts, so I understand charging a premium, but when your premium is 100% on the current market value, which is also marked up, that's a bit ridiculous. You guys quoted me prices on booster boxes that were almost $150 more than what was selling on ebay. Then you quoted me ridiculous prices on single cards.. again way way over market value. Great card/collectibles store with great employees. The selection is vast and the prices are reasonable. Most of these types of shops overcharge on their collectibles, hoping that the customers don't know what they're buying. Toy Mandala comes very close to Amazon and eBay prices and even offers 15% off an item if you check in. The selection ranges from Hello Kitty to Halo and anything in between. They get new items in quite often. The only slight downside is the parking. Tiny lot in the back, not even worth fussing over. Plenty of street parking on Moorpark during the day though. read more

There are a couple of reasons why I go to Toy Mandala but I can see how this place wouldn't be for everyone. It is right on Ventura Blvd so parking is a major pain in the butt but you can generally find parking on the side streets. They have a pretty good selection of board/card games and if they don't have what you are looking for then they will order it for you. If you special order something then they call you right away when you can pick it up. They have a large selection of anime and cards to choose from. I'm not sure about their prices for those things since I'm not into that as much. I do go for their selection of Pop Vinyl figures and they bring in new ones every few weeks. It isn't a huge display but enough to check every few weeks. The other comic shop nearby only carries a couple of figures so Toy Mandala has a better selection. I've always had a fun experience with the staff and they are passionate about the products that they sell. You can easily get caught up in a conversation about a board game that won't end until 15 minutes later because you've gotten swept up in the topic. I like the atmosphere here so I'll keep coming back. Their prices aren't outrageous when you compare them to other stores. Even the figures they sell are pretty comparable to other stores or even Frank & Son's. read more

I wish Toy Mandala had more comics, but if you know anything about comics you know that they are disappearing. What the store DOES have is a ton of Anime, Manga, and merchandise from those two genres all over the place. What they also have is the greatest staff to exist on the planet. Love the merchandise! Been coming here for years to window shop and occasionally pick up a box set or something. I say window shop because the prices are really what is hurting this store. I get that they sell collectables but come on? 500 dollars for a 12 inch plastic figure? Especially with things like amazon available to everyone today, stores like these need to price their products accordingly. Again, so much cool stuff in here if you're an anime fan/comic fan, or any kind of sub genre nerd. They got it all. But the biggest problem I, and apparently all of yelp, has with this store is the staff. Other than the manager, EVERYONE else is just plain rude, disinterested, unhelpful, lazy, or some combination of all of them. Maybe it's because they always hire kids who don't know a thing about running a business or, if it's not that, it's some elitist 30 something that rolls his eyes at you if you're not familiar with the latest naruto arc.
