My Husband had a 50-gallon fresh water tank back…read morein the day which I loved to watch the fish - very hypnotic & fascinating, swimming to & fro - but when He leveled up I had to let His fishy friends go too (the maintenance requirements were too overwhelming for Me then). My first recent try was to go the traditional route - heater, filter, bottles of water conditioner & beneficial bacteria, etc. etc. - when I unexpectedly happened upon an eye-opening You-Tube vid about the Walstad method (less homework & a more natural environment, the way God intended). So I returned all that other gear & am starting from scratch. Fernando eased My initial anxiety arriving as a total tank newbie, and gave Me a tour of the various low-maintenance plants I could start My nitrogen cycling with. Nolan - the Captain of this aquarium supplies ship - answered every one of My questions with patience & grace, did not talk down to Me or make Me feel stupid, and I left feeling happily hopeful that I might actually be successful in creating a fish-friendly safe & healthy environment. My first time here was a few days ago - I got Hornwort, bolbitus, and dwarf water lettuce. They were all thriving. Hornwort fluffy and full! Also Thursday's is 25% off plants !! I came again today and brought a friend and she was also so happy we stayed there for like an hour just looking at everything. They have multiple rooms and a lot of tanks. The store seems small but it's not ; there's a lot of variety of fish, plants, and shrimp. Today there were red root floaters, one of the employees actually grew them - they were so healthy and super red I had to buy 3 cups !! I got more dwarf water lettuce bc my axolotl loved hanging in the roots. Staff today was super nice and helpful. There were 2 guys. It was extremely busy when I came like 10 people and they were helping everyone collaboratively. I hate when an employee only focuses on 1 customer who takes forever thinking and observing and there's a ton of ppl waiting. It wasn't like that here, the guy would answer a question and move on to another client. Also when the guy was fishing out some shrimp he was still talking to other customers and answering questions. 7seas is a bit of a mixed bag for me. On the positive side, they have a really great selection of…read morefish and dry goods. Tanks, lights, filters, hardscape, supplies, you name it. They also clearly know what they're doing. The staff is knowledgeable and can answer questions without giving you that blank stare you sometimes get at other aquarium shops. But the pricing is honestly kind of shocking. A lot of their equipment is outrageously overpriced compared to what you can find online or even at other local stores. For example, I saw a UNS double valve connector selling for about $60 when the same thing is easily available online for around $20. They also had the Kessil 35° reflector priced at $50, and I've never seen those go for more than $30 or $35 anywhere else. I get that local fish stores have overhead and can't always compete with online pricing, and I'm totally fine paying a little more to support a brick and mortar shop. But some of these markups feel excessive. If you need something immediately and don't mind paying a premium, it's a solid store with good selection and knowledgeable staff. Just be prepared for some pretty steep prices on certain items. Overall I'd say it's worth visiting, but definitely price check before buying equipment.

On my way in, I almost bumped into a man and when I said "oh" to acknowledge his presence, he remained silent as if I wasn't there. I merely assumed that he was a customer who was on his way out. When I entered, the same man came back in, and after observing him, I realized that he worked there. In my opinion, he appeared disengaged and disgruntled. It was my first time in a koi shop and I had many questions, so I approached him. I was curious about the price, complexity, and maintenance. The only aspect that I did enjoy was looking at the koi fish. The element that distinguished this particular experience was that he didn't hesitate to offer a sarcastic reply. When I inquired about the price of a particular koi pond, as innumerable customers have undoubtedly done in the past, he seemed visibly annoyed, and said it was like asking the price of a car at a large car dealership and followed up with "okayyy" which signaled to me a hyperbolic, sarcastic, and impatient tone. The reason I physically came in was to ask questions, as do others when they are unfamiliar with certain products. This is particularly of great importance to me since I am a teacher, and when I, myself, am presented with a question, I am solely focused on informing. Being condescending never crosses my mind, especially with a customer. Putting others down to feel more intelligent is usually a coping mechanism stemming from deep-seated insecurity. He was not only lackadaisical about his customer service, but categorically appeared annoyed by my presence. I almost felt like I was in a different country. We are trained in the United States to immediately greet the customer and offer ongoing assistance while being excited that they might be a potential buyer, but that was not my experience here. Afterwards, I wanted to discover whether others had similar experiences; therefore, I decided to read this business's Yelp reviews, and I found several that confirmed my experience. On their website, they state that "...we are always happy to help you in any way..." but, once again, that was not my experience. I felt compelled to Google him and discovered that he was a co-owner: Greg Zuccolotto. Luckily, I have many options in Southern California, and I won't be conducting business here. Best of luck!
