I have always had great experiences at other Toyota dealerships, but unfortunately that was far from what I experienced at Toyota Direct. I contacted them about a car that was listed online, they told me that this is a very high paced dealership, and that the vehicle I wanted may not last very long, but if I came up after work, they could stay a open little later (I live 2 hours from the dealership.) I am in the process of buying a house, so I explained to the Salesman I have a strict limit to what my monthly payment can be so I can keep my debt to income ration where I need it for a mortgage, and I told him what it was, and that I was only willing to do a 60 month loan. I was told that depending on financing rates we could probably make something work. I already went to a local Toyota dealership, I knew what my credit was, and I knew that Toyota finance is currently running a special of 1.9% on Certified Used Camry's and Camry's Hybrids until 7-5-16, for Tier 1 credit, and 2.9% for Tier 2 credit, and I knew I qualified for that special. I knew that to hit where my payment to where it needed to be they would have to knock just over a $1000 off of the sticker price to be in price range.
So after work my wife and I drove 2 hours to get there, and did a credit app on the way down so "papers could be ready to sign when I got there." Well everything went well until they sat down and started the sales process of where we wanted the payments to be. Not only did they knock off one $1, they showed me a payment that was almost $100 more than what I said it had to be at. so not only did they knock off the price, I entered it into the loan calculator, and it showed they were projecting at 8% interest. I insisted to see my interest rates, and they said they were not allowed to speak to me at what they are, that I would have to talk to the Finance Manager, but would not let me speak to the financial manager, because we had to agree on a price first. After I pushed back, the salesman would talk to his sales manager, and kept on coming back with a little lower payment, but not close to what I had to be at. I feel bad because the sales guy was trying, but the sales manager was not letting him lower the price. (we overheard part of one of their conversation, the sales manager was not a friendly person.)
After running through the process 4 times, and them not wanting to tell me what my interest rates would be, I asked to speak to the manager. Unfortunately I did not get his name, but it was not a pleasant experience dealing with him. First he tried to tell me what I wanted was unreasonable, because even if he was selling it at 0% interest, it wouldn't be the payment I wanted it at full price, so I got out my phone and pulled up Toyota Finance calculator and showed him that actually they payment would be right where I wanted it. I kept asking him what my interest rate would be, and he finally said that there was no way of knowing because he only ran my credit, but did not submit it to the bank because there was no point of submitting it if we were not going to decide on a price.
I brought up Toyota finance rates and he said he had no idea what they would be. Then I brought up that Toyota is currently running a special for 1.9% for Certified Used Camry's and he reluctantly agreed that they were. Then I asked him what my credit scores were and if they would qualify for the Tier 1 for 1.9%, and he said probably. At this point he was very annoyed because I pointed out his misinformation on multiple occasions, and I was using Toyota's finance calculator to show exactly what my payments would be at various interest rates. I told him at that interest rate if he lowered the price $1100 It would be where I needed it to be.
Then he told me that the price was the internet price and there wasn't much room. I pointed out that the price that was online, is the same price that it says on the windshield of the car, so it wasn't any cheaper. He said let me rephrase that, we have room, but I know I can get more out of that car. So I stood up and told him that I should have been told this before driving 2 hours to buy this car. I was VERY CLEAR on the phone where I needed the monthly payment, and I was not willing to go over a 60 month loan. This was a total waste of my time, and I felt like they were telling me anything to get me to the dealership, thinking they were going to be able to pressure me into a higher price. The Sales Manager was rude, and just came off as very annoyed that we were there late, and was armed with information, and confronted him on the things he presented to me that were not true. I do feel the salesman was trying, I place the blame of this on the sales manager.
Bottom line, I wasted gas, time, and energy on driving 2 hours to this dealership on false promises. I DO NOT recommend making a trip to this dealership from out of town because they do not honor their promises, and the management is very rude. read more
