I have been meaning to try Trace brewing and was not disappointed. I meet a friend in a Tuesday night for a drink. The bartender was a not super friendly but it wasn't a big problem. There was also a little dog running around which I felt indifferent about but I know some people have strong opinions both ways. It was a great atmosphere - a very industrial feel. I also like that they had a wood burning fire place that made the whole place smell cozy. I got a sour beer that was really good! They also tend to have food trucks outside each night, which is fun! This is a really cool place to hang when it's not super crowded and you can actually sit and have a convo. I love the vibes here and how there actually is ample seating inside and outside. They usually have a food cart parked outside - we've been here for tacos and chicken sandwiches from Mr. Nick's. The chicken sandwich was soooo good! You order drinks inside from the counter and the menu is wide! They have their beers as well as Personal Day seltzers, a few cocktails on tap (the mojito was really good and strong), and some ciders too. They also usually have a DJ playing too. When there's a special event, it can get pretty loud and crowded and hard to find a seat. Parking does get hard around there too so if it's crowded, we park down by the beer store near there. First time actually stopping in and trying the place. I've been by numerous times but couldn't find parking anywhere so I've left. This happened maybe 3-4 times. Today was the first time I actually found a street spot to park. Cool old building that has been repurposed. I like places like that. Had a food truck outside. I came to Trace for the first time and I was blown away. It's such a neat spot! There's a mix of indoor and outdoor. Beer and Coffee. The staff were super helpful. The space was kind of industrial-ish. I really liked it. It's also right in the heart of Garfield/Bloomfield, so the location is great. They also sometimes have food trucks parked outside so you can grab a bite to eat and head on into Trace for a drink. I'll definitely be back! read more

So I have been here twice and here is my take: Ambiance: 3. when it's nice, their outdoor area is super cool, lots of plants and nice spot to enjoy with friends. Last time I went it was colder so we sat inside. The lights are cool and I was excited about the fireplace, BUT there were a million flies all over the chairs. Not sure if someone spilled beer or what but it was so bad we ended up leaving. The tables seemed dirty too which was definitely a turn off. Beer selection: 3. They only had 3 options. Not much variety when we went but we liked what we tried. Gained points for being able to bring your own food (we stopped at bitter ends and brought sandwiches in). The coffee was good also. Service was not too friendly. I'd probably skip and try a different brewery next time. read more

Trace is such a cool spot. They always have a great selection of beers. Their Hazy IPA's are awesome. One of the coolest parts of the brewery is the public graffiti wall in the alleyway. It is always changing and always has amazing local art being featured. I think it is great that they are so involved with the local Bloomfield community. My party had a poor customer service experience here. We appreciated that we could reserve tables for 90 minutes... but it became really frustrating when the servers never came over to the table except for right after we were initially seated. With limited time, it was extremely disappointing to have to wait 40 minutes to get a server to come over to the table. We had to go inside to the bar twice to try and find our server, and ultimately ended up ordering drinks from another server we snagged as they were walking past. Two of our four party members were never even able to get water glasses. We finally received a 2nd round of drinks about 10 minutes prior to the end of the reservation, and an employee subsequently came over and basically kicked us out of our table. If you're going to have a time-based reservation system, prompt service should be assumed. It's a pretty space, but I don't plan on returning. read more

Visited here for a work retreat. Service was great. Started with an iced coffee and pastry then had a couple beers later in the day once off the clock. Both were very good. We had the group room (off the patio) reserved for most of the day, which was a great spot. We walked down to Baby Loves Tacos for lunch and brought it back--delicious and convenient. Parking was a nightmare until a colleague recommended the parking lot a could blocks off Liberty ($1/hr). Definitely recommend that rather than risk a 1-hr spot on the street. read more

This long-awaited day had finally come! Inside the former punk venue "The Shop" in Bloomfield now sits the amazing Trace Brewing. They have completely transformed the space and it's one of the nicest looking breweries I've ever seen. They also have a cool patio and have turned the side of their building (the wall in the alley) into an ever-changing art gallery for graffiti artists. Because of the pandemic they're grand opening isn't really happening as one normally would. There are no beers on tap yet, also because of the pandemic. However, canned beers are available for take-out only (contactless) and they are delicious! They're handling coronavirus protocols like champs. Outstanding the way they are ensuring the safety of employees and customers! After tasting the pours I'm here to tell you the wait for them to open was well worth it. Trace is a great space to meet friends for a couple of beers! First of all, they are dog friendly!! They have a nice patio, as well as a big indoor space with tables and lounge chairs. Besides beer, they also offer cocktails on tap from Goodlander, local cider, seltzers, and wine- enough for everyone! They do not serve food, but they usually have a food truck parked out front. As someone with dietary restrictions with friends who have dietary restrictions, I'm always on the lookout for places that we can have a great night while providing our own food. Also, there's a huge grocery store parking lot as well as a bus stop across the street, which is a huge draw for me. Im so disappointed in Trace. I have been a big fan of their coffee and I drive out of my way to be a customer. Today I ordered a large oat latte. It was served in a small cup. Larger cups were available and I order 4 shots, so I requested the larger cup. I was told I can put my smaller drink in the larger cup, but they won't give me, or sell to me, more milk! Trace Brewing is fabulous. They have a beautiful indoor taproom and outdoor space, which are currently reservation only. I think doing reservations works great, because there is nothing worse than wanting to grab a beer with friends and showing up to find out there aren't any available tables! I can only speak to the outdoor space, but I felt very safe. Tables are generously spaced apart, and I sometimes forgot there were others outside. The beers are delicious - I ordered the Thanks, Doc (double dry hopped IPA, I am a huge IPA fan) and loved it. Food is BYO but they do have some in house options. The aesthetic and branding of the beer cans and glasses combined with the lovely and kind folks that work there makes Trace a super refreshing experience! It seems like the menu is constantly changing, so I'm looking forward to trying their other beers. read more

Trace--where have you been all my life? Or at least the last few years... Trace Brewing provides the ideal of what a bar / brewery should be--an open space to hang out and enjoy some drinks--be that beer, cider, cocktails, or coffee. Honestly, this place reminds me of all the cafes in Belgium and other European countries--a good place to relax, drink, and enjoy yourself without feeling the need to over-imbibe or eat subpar food. The space at Trace is open, airy, and comfortable. There is a great beer garden area, along with lots of seating in the open area of the bar. The space isn't cramped at all, and there's plenty of different seating options (tables, high-tops, booth, bar, etc.). If you aren't feeling alcohol (yet), they also have a coffee bar and small selection of pastries at all. Although they don't sell much other food, they often have food trucks outside and are officially "BYOF." I discovered Trace just the other day, and I've already been back twice to hang out, study, and just enjoy the good weather. I am excited to add this spot to my regular rotation of hang out spots. I definitely recommend heading over to trace, grabbing a drink (alcoholic or coffee or anything else) and enjoying your afternoon without feeling rushed, cramped, or grody. Stopped in for a beer the other day right before dinner. Trace has a good pedigree of brewers, and I've picked up some cans before and really enjoyed their beers. That said, in site service tends to be a bit lackadaisical... Nice of the menu scanners works, and there is no visible beer menu on the wall, which is odd. On site there were only i think 4 options, which is fine for stopping in briefly but doesn't make for a great tasting experience. To my knowledge, you can't do tasters either. That said we tried the Love is The Way IPA, which is very good, and the Foeder Vienna, which was also decent. There are snacks on site too but I would advise highly against. They are pretzels and savory pastries. The latter of which come from a fridge and are served at about 40 degrees. The pretzel is served cold/room temperature. It was very strange. We probably won't be back to drink beers on site, but I'll be a take out can customer. read more

3.5 with potential to be a 4.5 or even 5 Location is great. Ambiance is good. I like that there's a mix of outdoor and indoor seating. I like that they sometimes have a food vendor but sadly both times I've seen one (different vendors), they've been run by a single person and insanely behind on orders. People around getting visibly frustrated to not get their food 30+ min after ordering. I really want to love this place, especially because Bloomfield needed a brewery, but unfortunately I think the beers themselves have room for improvement. If you're an IPA fan you might like it but their draft list is pretty IPA dominant, and even some of their other non-IPA beers are oddly close in flavor profile. For example, on one visit I ordered a "wheat beer" that was the most hoppy "wheat beer" I've ever had--to the point that members of my group and I had to wonder if they possibly gave me the wrong beer. And in general, multiple people I have come here with have told me that they like the place but didn't think the beers were that great. Thankfully they have a couple rotating cocktails on draft too. read more

The service here is phenomenal! The bartenders/baristas are wonderful and I love that Trace serves coffee as well as alcohol. You will usually be greeted by servers dressed in a slightly-alternative fashion who are more than happy to either make small talk or let you read or check your phone messages in peace while you enjoy either a "drink" drink or an inexpensive cup of joe. The coffee is decent and this is a good quiet space on weekend mornings that is much less packed or busy than its neighbors that function as pure coffee-shop cafes. As for alcohol, this is mostly a craft beer place so if you're more of a cocktails/liquor guy like me it's a bit less your scene in terms of drinks. That said, Trace stocks an excellent canned Margarita and one or two enjoyable original cocktails. (The exception to the wonderful service being one summer day when I was slow to receive a server's attention despite there only being 3-6 other people present and dipped out after 30-45 minutes - however, this seemed to be an exception and not representative). Occasionally, Trace also hosts events which include DJ nights, drag trivia, etc. - I have never been during one of these events and can not speak to them. But whether you prefer quiet or noise, solitude or crowds, Trace Brewing has times that will work for you. read more

The BEST crew. We hosted welcome drinks for our wedding on a Friday evening, and Aadam and Brooke were amazing to work with from the very beginning (pricing out a buyout, helping us connect to food trucks, and helping us with the sound / mic system) to the end of the event. We walked into Trace and immediately knew that we had hit the right tone for the weekend. Super professional bartenders (I didn't get everyone's names unfortunately), who took the time to assist people with their choices and check in with us throughout the event. We had so many compliments about the venue, the drinks, and the food (massive thanks to Los Gallitos). We had so much fun that we went back post-wedding on Sunday to buy a commemorative glass for all of the family and friends who had helped us. Bonus is that we were able to enjoy a beer and see some of the same crew. Could not recommend more highly! read more
