One of my favorite Trader Joe's stores! The workers are always friendly and helpful! I always had a great experience here!

It's been quite a while since I've been in a Trader Joe's store. This location in the Alameda South Shore Shopping center was very busy. The prices in here were pretty good, much better than I remember. Went in here for extra virgin olive oil, and ended up picking up a few more things. Along with the good prices were the friendly employees. A good experience overall!!

I'm so glad this TJ still has the 15 item or less basket registers. TJ Rockridge & TJ Castro Valley no longer has the basket registers. Employees from both locations lied and told me that all Trader Joe's removed the basket lane. I don't know who was the genius that thought it was a good idea, but like I mentioned before with the holidays fast approaching if you have a few items, you have to wait in the long lines with customers with carts full of groceries. Thank you TJ Alameda for not getting rid of the basket registers lanes.

I tried all three. Cauliflower is a good cracker. Okra is delicious. Onion is like a cotton ball.

Still the best TJ's in the East Bay. Clean, spacious, fully stocked, and courteous service.

I have become a loyal customer... In both states that I live in. And when I travel... Quality/Quantity - Consistent. They have these snacks that I always buy. Corn Chips for the road - A perfect filling emergency food snack, and it does not leave many crumbs. (Healthy) rice crackers that I add to my plain unbuttered popcorn. Added flavor to my popcorn. I also add pecans which are good for the liver as I still drink more than I should. Atmosphere - One of their smaller and busier locations that we frequent. My current favorite location is in South Reno, NV. Many people in Reno still do not know about it, at least they do not frequent it. So for me, it is very easy in and out. Service - Self service. Easy, quick, and friendly checkout. Usually in the express lane. Price - Very reasonably priced for what you get. I do not even look at prices any more. Many products you can not find anywhere else, so it is okay to pay a little more. Owner Comment - Congrats on your company's success since 1967 (1958 if you count Pronto Markets). 1979 - Sold to Theo Albrecht, owner of Aldi Nord. 2024 - 569 stores.

    Heads up - renovation incoming

Love the new rearrangement of the fruits at this store. Much improved since it always so busy and space is limited. Stopped by to let all the early bird shoppers know that this store will be undergoing some renovations soon. I'm excited to see what change is in-store.

Probably my favorite grocery stores - I usually go to either this location or the Castro Valley one and both are always a pleasant shopping experience. I find it saves time overall and that is always one of my top priorities. Around the holidays I count on this store for small gifts and food items that don't scream "I bought this bulk from Costco." I like to leave Costco foods for more institutional gathers such as churches with hundreds of people - or maybe big Catholic families where exhausted moms basically give up on the idea of cooking for all. Around the holidays you don't want assembly line food or mass produced pumpkin pies that are just too large to look nice on your fine China. Thankfully they don't sell that here. I think jellied cranberry out of a can is also a big no no... and around Thanksgiving I always grab a couple containers of their special cranberry with orange zest sauce. Their cranberry zest sauce tastes better than homemade and if you place it in your own sauce pan nobody will be the wiser. Don't look like a Catholic mom who gave up with jellied cranberry sauce. Your smarter than that. I loved their waterless Amaryllis for $10. It is glued to a horizontally sliced piece of tree trunk with a bunch of bright green moss all around the perimeter. I don't know about you but I've got this obsession with moss and the whole piece looks very classy. I bought a bunch and carefully packaged them with ingenious design so they could be mailed off as presents for the upcoming holiday. Overall I believe that Trader Joes is a great way to save time. Options like Costco I find I have to set aside a whole afternoon and then another hour or two finding places to store everything at home. Fitting things in the fridge becomes a frustrating game of Tetris and the mere thought of all that puts me in a sour mood. Places like Safeway are better but you still use up mental power thinking about coupons and pricing gimmicks. Really, I'd rather use up my brain power solving bigger problems.... And then I like to watch dog and cat videos on Youtube to replenish more brain power for the next day.

    Only $1.69?!!! YESSSS

We shop there occasionally (three-four times a year). Can't say much about owner(s) or employees as I never interacted much other than "in out, bing bang" and that's it. I didn't notice or experience any rude or "strange" behavior, neither from customers nor employees, otherwise it would've been one star just like all those other reviews (I rarely give five stars to businesses). Also I noticed during my brief shopping visits that other patrons at that moment were from different cultures, speaking different languages, and from different ethnic backgrounds. Truly a diverse and multicultural environment. Finally to Abigail C.: Maybe you should take your rowdy, sugar hopped-up kids to the park to play or spend more time teaching them good manners. Don't be shifting your shortcomings as a parent to others around you. *I am not related to this business owner(s) and am not an everyday/"regular" visitor but reviewers with low self-esteem and an inferiority complex should consider some kind of therapy or even learning a thing or two about different cultures, or perhaps learning a different language before labeling people as racist, bigots, homophobes or any kind of "phobes".

The pistachio cream cake and ricotta and pistachio cake sound good too, so many desserts. They also have Mitchell's ice cream. Although there is a sound effect that goes off when you step in the door so the owner or staff must've known when I came in, and they also looked up when a few other people went in and out of the store, I was standing at the counter for about 5 mins before they realized I was waiting to order, so that was awkward. I realized the register is set up for grocery store and not like a restaurant so there wasn't a way to enter a tip for the drink order when paying with credit card; they only have a jar for cash tips. It says minimum $5 for credit or debit or they will charge you $0.50. The owner/employee is pretty no nonsense in demeanor. I ordered a $5 hot mocha for 16 oz. The prices are pretty good for hot drinks. For some reason, for iced drinks, which have a smaller selection, the price jumps up significantly between the 12oz and 16oz size. You can get up to 20oz size for the hot drinks. The coffee itself was pretty good, though, and I liked the amount of chocolate in it. Not bad for drinks, you just might have to try to speak up to get the owner's attention if they are busy washing dishes or not looking your way / not at the register.

The pricing is always on par or usually lower than other spots in town. During the pandemic, a beloved clerk there (Kenny, miss you!) told me that a customer had told him they should raise prices on an item, because another market in town was selling it for 30% more or so. Kenny mentioned that to Sam, who firmly said, "no, I'm not raising prices." Our hero. He also stocks things for neighborhood locals if they even mention wanting them. It's the spot for every kid to run into and pick out an ice cream or candy (and maybe tell Amy about their baseball game, she always asks). I went in a few years back after living elsewhere for years, and Sam was so lovely. He also knows my entire family - Mom and Dad go in all the time; Dad is now buying most groceries there; my sister, brother-in-law, and nephews lived in the neighborhood for most of the last years and they travel here weekly now and usually hit up A-1 to get favorites. They have amazing vegetarian and vegan options; the produce is ALWAYS fresh and well-picked (and priced - best price for avocados); the frozen foods are always interesting and tempting; and they have fresh Firebrand bread every day! It's also a really safe space for everyone - kids, adults, all of us. Between the lovely culture he's created, and the insane merchandising skill, and the products... I think Sam might be a magician. Go! You will not be disappointed.
