Reliably great, no matter where I find one, I love Trader Joe's. Born in Monrovia, CA-- just next door to my hometown, TJ's has seen several iterations over the years, but the store as it is now is my favorite. Trader Joe's doesn't take itself too seriously, and neither do I... maybe that's why we get along. This location is found in a busy Milbrae pseudo-strip mall. The store front is narrow, but runs deep and across the building. Consequently, aisles are a little narrow and the store was quite busy when I visited. I had to play what felt like a game of Twister with a lady for a bag of carrots and a container of hummus, but in the end, we high fived, and we'll probably remain friends (or not.) A big bag of raw shelled almonds for $5? Cheaper than the fruit stands in Pacheco Pass! Speaking of nuts, I grabbed raw shelled walnuts, raw pumpkin seeds, cashews, and for good measure, two bags of dried white peaches here... tough to find in SoCal most of the time. At the register, the cheerful associate asked me about my day, smiled, laughed, and said, "I'm not charging you for bags, because you seem like a good guy." This place gets it that the customer isn't always right, but they're always the customer. Going to Trader Joe's on the weekends usually gives me the heeby jeebies, but this one tends to be worth it. This one and the Menlo Park one (for the nice ppl working there) are definitely my favorites in the local area. Pros: Clean and seem to be well taken care of, compared to some of the peninsula TJs that look like train wrecks by the early afternoon. Interestingly, I've found snacks here that I couldn't find at all the rest of the TJ's. I can't imagine why you would stock them differently, but this one has unusual items -- my favorite is the Odds and Ends of Fruit leathers -- it gives you a big bag of all the irregularly shaped leftovers of their single-pack fruit leathers, for a great low price. Yum yum movie snack!! Parking is actually sane -- it shares a lot with a Living Spaces which is next door. Cons: Lines are still long but I haven't found a TJs in the area that doesn't have a hella terrible line. read more

I love this store. Having a newborn at home I am very afraid of covid and mostly order groceries online. But TJ is where I go if I need something that can't be delivered or if I need something urgently. In terms of covid they are following precautions like :- - 6 feet line during entrance - hand sanitizer while entering the store - all employees & customers wear masks - limited no of people in store at a time. Because of this their is usually a line at the entrance but it moves quickly so worth the wait. And if you can go weekdays in afternoons then there is usually no line. All staff is friendly and are willing to help you out if you need. Good job guys read more

When you're at Trader Joe's looking for that elusive toy for the scanveger hunt, be reminded that every TJ's has a different toy, with a different degree of difficulty. This time I was looking for a plane. The "TJ plane." After getting numerous refills of their sample coffee, I was beginning to get jittery and a little annoyed that I couldn't find the plane in this small, almost apartment sized Trader Joes. Then one of the staff approached me, asking "Can I help you find something?" "Um yeah," I said sheepishly, "I'm looking for the Trader Joe's airplane." "You mean the one for kids?" she asked. "Is your kid looking for it?" I looked away from her, since I didn't want to look into her in the eyes when I told her I didn't have kids, and I was just looking for myself to pass the time as I waited for my friend to finish shopping. She laughed and said, "I've never had an adult ask me about the plane before." "I know," I said. "One day I hope to grow up." She laughed again, and told me to look up. And there hanging above the ceiling was the airplane I'd been searching for. She told me that they don't hide it in the shelves because kids steal it, so instead they hang it in the air so kids can point to it and get the stickers. It never occurred to me to look up! Be cautious while shopping at this location. I noticed a man suspiciously walked in and around, then stood near the exit. Then, realized he was following me to my car after I paid and exited. Felt uneasy, so I left immediately without putting groceries in my trunk or taking my purse off. Didn't feel safe in that situation and probably won't visit unless with company. Be careful out there folks and I hope the staff would be more attentive. In terms of store layout, it's similar to other locations and has everything I need, plus clean. read more

After an event in downtown Millbrae, we checked out the area and came across Trader Joe's. Saving a stop when we got back home, we decided to stop in and pick up some provisions. Considering that it was late on a Saturday afternoon, the first thing that I noticed was that the store was not crowded and the checkout lines were no more than one deep. The store was spacious as the aisles were wider than my go-to neighborhood store. One thing I found here was Semifreddi cinnamon twist bread, which is not carried at my store. My favorite egg bread swirled with cinnamon. Had interactions with the worker at the sample station and the cashier. Both were pleasant and friendly. Commented to the cashier how short the lines at this store were and he laughed and said they're normally long. I guess I was here on a good day. read more

Attention Owner of this location: This is BY FAR, the WORST Trader Joe's retail store I have visited, for the second time; giving you another opportunity to provide exceptional service. Apparently, resolution is not your strong suit. Your cashier, Rebecca, was incredibly insensitive, unfriendly, inconsiderate, unprofessional and unacceptably scatterbrained from my waiting with very heavy groceries to leaving!! Rebecca completely neglected to efficiently include all of my purchases. That is fine with me. (She lacks detail, articulation, focus and human kindness.... which created a burden for me to trouble myself and pay again) Your staff is random when acknowledging true service and respecting the community. Love this TJs. It's relatively large for a Trader Joe's, parking is super easy out back. Grab a coffee and food sample and then get shopping. Make sure to bring a list or you'll end up with more than you anticipated. My favorite market hands down! The staff are super friendly. They are sanitizing customers upon entering the store, sanitizing after they leave, the sanitizing the carts and they are really reinforcing social distancing and 6ft apart. They allow a few customers in the store to avoid crowds. The line moves pretty quickly also, I love exploring each aisle and finding lots of interesting stuff. My favorites are their banana nut bread, macaroons (it's in the freezer section along with the ice cream), orange chicken, Korean style kalbi "short ribs" (so good! make it with some onions the flavors in the kalbi is delicious), Spud Crunchies Potato Snacks ketchup flavor. If I can I would buy the whole store seriously my favorite place ever! read more

This outlet is average size, and pretty busy all the time. On Sunday it's packed! Covid update: Bring your bags! TJs allows my own bags, but I must fill them myself. 10 cent charge for paper bags. Hi I'd like to post a review on two customer service. We were looking for Liver pâté and it was empty. Look, I get it, you're busy but if you got some in the back, couldn't you just kindly grab it from the back, she was also very rude to us and we felt unwelcomed. After going around, I asked a gentleman named Karsten (might have spelt his name incorrectly) but he too was stocking up the lanes and yet when I asked if he could check in the back, this greatness of customer service told me nicely with such a happy face and went to the back and grabbed me some. The girl who was stocking up the chees at 2:45PM was NOT helpful. And did not want to even work. But because of your employee Karsten while he was busier than the young white lady who had less things to do, Thank you for making this market another chance. Great store, clean, spread out. Went shopping 7/15/21 between 7:15-7:30 pm. Reason for 2 stars...came up to pay and my groceries & basket fell off the counter. I heard it fall and looked at the young Asian female cashier. Nobody cares. Teenagers too busy talking about their holiday weekend I guess. Cashier didn't care. No acknowledgement. I had to walk from 1 end of the counter to the other end of the counter. I picked up my groceries and put it back into the counter. Hand it to the cashier. Bag girl, bagged the groceries. Cashier puts in the receipt into bag and continues chatting away. I understand this is retail. I work in retail. Retail's not your favorite job. But at least train your staff to acknowledge the human in front of them. Sadly to say I get better customer service at McDonald's than this store. read more

I come in probably every weekend since I gym right next door, and every single time (seriously, every time) the cashier clerks have been soooo pleasant to interact with. They all seem to want to genuinely make conversation with you and for that I APPRECIATE YOU!! My go to store for everything :). This store is like a 2 blocks away from my workplace, you can find me here 2 times in a day. I know crazy but no lie I love it here. I love exploring the aisles and finding interesting stuff. I am fav of their marinara sauce, cauliflower gnocchi, cauliflower rice, salads, nut butters and other great stuff. This TJ's is smaller in size as compare to other location and is mostly packed even on the working days. there is always some stuff for taste and try over the counter with fresh coffee. Funky parking is out back for this place and I love the size of this store as its super easy to find everything you need! Aisles are wide and long so it doesnt feel so crowded. Fresh baguettes are all the way in the back of the store so it's kind of in a weird spot. If you are looking for something unusual, buy the kouign amanns in the baked goods section - since they discontinued the frozen ones, these ones that are ready to eat are READY to eat! read more

I was so excited to get my hands on some Well Red (no sulfites detected red wine) when it finally returned. And I was bummed to discover the latest batch SUCKED! Last weekend my wife shared one of her biggest pet peeves. People who spell the word "Stationary" when they actually mean "Stationery". While she was on her mini-rant, my Berkeley educated sister and me the, well the drunk Catholic university who never paid attention grad stared wide eyed as neither of us never even realized there was a difference. I'm sure you did though right? Like the word stationary/stationery, there is a difference between Trader Joes. The Millbrae location offers a better selection, wider shopping aisles and a better and safer parking area than that of the San Mateo location (which is closer to my house). The beer/wine choices appear to be a little wider and it could be my imagination but I also believe they stock more varieties of frozen Italian meals. Since moving to Burlingame I've been at a loss where to shop for groceries. I miss my Piedmont Grocery with their imported snacks, wide selection of cheese, high quality meat, organic selections, the list goes on and on. I just can't seem to find anything like it around here. Feeling unsatisfied with where I've been grocery shopping lately, I started coming here. Parking can be a disaster at this location. Broadway Ave is a busy street as it's the downtown of Millbrae. There's a Pet Food Express, Safeway, 24 Hr Fitness, Starbucks and others so expect pedestrians jaywalking and cars driving slow looking for parking. As for the store itself, its smaller compared to other TJs I've been to. The employees are helpful and friendly. I bought a bag of avocados and when I opened one the next day, it was bruised and almost completely black inside. I checked the others and found they were all like that. I took the bag back to TJ and they let me take another bag home, no questions asked. The store is clean and lots of staff on the floor to assist you if you have any questions. You can find most basic ingredients here. They do have quite a selection of pre-made food you can just pop in the oven and pretend to your date that you cooked it yourself. Make sure you grab a Cookie Butter ice cream for dessert. Your date will instantly fall in love with you. This stuff is ridiculous! My go to store for grocery shopping from now on. read more

We just moved here and I really hope our TJ experiences on the peninsula improve. I am a serious TJ enthusiast and can't count the number of times I've put in a good word for employees for various customer service acts. TJs in relatively new in my hometown and I'm constantly sharing the TJ love with old friends, praising the value and the fact that we eat much more organic food and MUCH less additives and preservatives. However, I've been to three peninsula stores and the customer service at each has been very disappointing. Examples - the cashier is closing her line and her delivery is without smile or thank you, she abruptly gives some 'no' gesture. Really? Also, the tasting area staff have also been less than hospitable. Bummer! In hindsight, I think that I was always eager to shop at TJs several times a week because I just knew it would be a pleasant experience. Lastly, the produce is very poorly rotated, and possibly very poorly handled prior to stocking. I've had bagged produce go bad days prior to expiration which makes me think that there is some problem with how deliveries are handled and produce is kept at proper temp in the process. I heard another customer bring the rotting lemons to the attention of management. Management didn't offer an apology, just smiled and said he'd take care of it. The photo doesn't capture it, but there a several badly decomposing pieces in the FRONT of selection. How does this go unnoticed?! I can still say that I love TJs in general. I don't think they will lose my business but I do think I'll be looking to supplement elsewhere. read more

Trader Joe's has the coolest snacks! It's my go-to place for candies and cookies. I recently discovered Scandinavian Swimmers (delicious addicting gummy candy). I tried chocolate covered pretzels for the first time and I'm so glad I got the ones from Trader Joe's. Great selection of fruit juices! I fell in love with the orange, peach, & mango juice. The various fresh fruits and salads definitely caught my eye. I almost bought a box of cantaloupe, jicama, and already peeled pomegranate. Their frozen isle was impressive - from an array of organic pizzas to korean BBQ to sautéed mushrooms. Boyfriend was really interested in their assortment of odd beers. We'll definitely be back! Because everything is organic here though, the prices can break the bank compared to Target or Safeway, but you get the quality you pay for I suppose. read more

This Trader Joe's seems a bit smaller than the one that we usually go to on Coleman St. in San Jose, but besides that it has all the same stuff. Actually, when we went they had this cinnamon broom stick that was placed so that you could smell the cinnamon while you were walking through the flower section. It was pretty cool. The only reason we didn't get it was just that we couldn't fit it in our luggage. As with all TJ's it's fairly easy to find what you're looking for and if you can't, just ask and they'll be really helpful. Oh and the prices are really good. It's located in a nice quiet mall area that isn't too busy at all. Although once you get inside, it can get fairly crowded in line. It moves pretty smoothly. From their parking lot you have to cross a street, so make sure to look both ways first before crossing! read more

This is a reminder of why I hate shopping at this Trader Joe's location. The cashier in the less than 15 items lane has horrible attitude. I wasn't aware you have to ask him to help you bag items in your grocery bag, he does not automatically offer at time of service. This old white man has horrible customer service and gave me attitude in front of my kids and other customers. I dont even know why he works here. He has selective customer service etiquette while the white people in front of me get the better service and then I get the total opposite when I'm next in line. I wont be spending my money or wasting my time buying groceries at this Millbrae location again as this isn't the first time this happened here. SHOPPERS BEWARE! Your shopping stop to TJ's in Millbrae may cost over $800+ in car damages. There are uncollected stray TJ carts all over the pavement outside TJ's. One of them hit my car while I was inside TJ's for just 10 minutes! I went back into the market to file a report and the staffs were helpful in making a claim, but their head office denied any responsibility before even contacting me. TJ's claims liability does not rest with them because their location conducts regular stray shopping cart retrievals. However, I am puzzled, on passing by in the evenings, there are always many carts lying around. It is disappointing that TJ's does not take more responsibility for their stray carts which could potentially caused more serious accidents. What if the stray carts go into the street and on coming cars swerving to avoid the carts end up hitting pedestrians? Having finally just climbed up out of the rock I've been hiding in for God knows how long, I just discovered that there was a Trader Joes here in Millbrae. Hurray!!! Having always just shopped at Safeway, I decided to go in yesterday and see what all the hub bub was about. Inside was fairly clean, albeit with a smaller selection than that OTHER store. But their produce was definitely fresher, and their prices actually better! When I was being rung up, a cashier next to me rang a cow bell to call a manager over to her register. I felt like I was in a mom n' pop store. It was awesome! Friendly staff, fresh food, great prices. Move over Safeway, there is a new top dog in town! read more
