I love this Trader Joe's location but there are a few problems I have with it. The parking lot is so tight and there isn't a lot of parking. Also I've noticed their fruits spoil so fast. I bought a bag of oranges and literally 2 days later they were moldy. I also bought a basket of strawberries and the next day one had mold on it. They need to keep the fruits fresh! Anyway, it's the best natural/organic store in my area to go to when I don't feel like driving to Whole Foods in Walnut Creek. read more

I am glad to have a Trader Joes in the neighborhood. They make an effort to have everything in the store you need even though the store is small. I was a little disappointed that some of the fresh grocery items are pre-chopped and packaged instead of having the whole fresh vegetables. Cabbage and celery for example are chopped and bagged. read more

Trader Joe's in Pinole is Fantastic. This store is always fully stocked, consistently friendly staff and you feel very welcomed. Nothing ruins a shopping experience when you go up front to checkout and you see lines with a few registers open. NOT here! Trader Joe's always have enough people to check you out & always has an express lane open at all times. Safeway & Lucky should take note. And guess what, TJ staff are always helpful and polite on a consistent basis. Definitely a 5 star review. read more

After dinner last night we went to check out Crystal's new TJ's. It's in a shopping center that's been rehabbed. I'm not sure what was there before aside from the Albertson's, but there's a Mechanics Bank going in near the entrance and a Walgreen's due to open soon plus there's an assortment of other small stores. Architecturally it's a step or two up from the El Cerrito Plaza, although it's painted in the same earth tones. It's more attractive than the Plaza. Trader Joe's is large and bright and was well stocked despite the lateness of the hour. There were quite a few people looking around and we overheard many comments about how much larger it is than the El Cerrito TJ's. I noticed several people buying those bright, reusable TJ's shopping bags. We bought a few things (how can you go into TJ's and NOT buy a few things?) and as we were leaving I overheard an employee, maybe the manager, chatting w/ patrons and welcoming them to the store. It was very nice. We probably won't return, simply because our own TJ's is so close, but it was nice to see Crystal's. read more

I love this store. The staff is very helpful and very good looking. I always find great deals and I get to look like the hero at home when I make my kids yummy favorites. I love the orange chicken and the mac and cheese. My secret winners are the tequilla that I am sure is Patron and the $2 wine. I also am a huge fan of the tea tree tingle shampoo. Hidden gem: this one is almost never crowded. It's well-stocked and the staff are super friendly. You can always find someone to help you, recommend wine, give you a sample. I was once debating between 2 sauces and the manager asked if he could help me then insisted on opening both bottles so I could taste and decide. read more

I am here at least once a week. I love this place. All Trader Joe's are amazing with the groceries they carry. However, this TJ's has the friendly staff, a good layout and easy parking. In my life I have been to 7 different TJ's and this is my favorite. I love that they keep the same people working there and I feel like it's a neighborhood hangout, well at least for me. read more

I went to Trader Joe's today and witnessed something horrible. I saw two scruffy middle age people, opening every single container with blueberries, strawberries, and touching the fruit, and then closing the lids of the containers and putting them back. Then, I saw them opening another fruit container that had a tape, they even opened the tape, closed it and put it back, then took the strawberries, and smelled them, and put them back. I WILL NEVER BUY FRUIT FROM Trader Joe's ever. I called this horrible incident to the attention of the manager, and he told me that those things are done all the time and that they could not control every customer. I suggested that they put a sign saying "ABSOLUTETLY NO OPENING OF CONTAINERS. IF YOU OPEN IT AND TOUCH IT, YOU BUY IT! read more

As a former long term pastry chef, I know more than I'd like to about rotating produce (and product) and one of my chief complaints is that I frequently smell moldy citrus and potatoes at this store. Like many others mentioned, the parking lot can be a nightmare, and even the back of the store parking area stretch has gotten dicey to negotiate. Worse when the high school gets out and pinole valley road is gridlocked, whoever planned this parking lot is an idiot. Over time, I've noticed that my shopping has significantly shifted from Lucky's in Hercules to TJ's. I think this is for three reasons ... first, as a single person, their "easy to prepare" foods selection is just bigger, of better quality and the portion sizes fit my life style better (i.e., I don't have enough leftovers for two weeks!) ... second, I just like the staff better ... it's weird, because I don't interact with the staff at either location a lot ... it just seems like the people at TJ's are more friends/a team whereas at Lucky's they seem like a bunch of people that just happened to work together for a long time. Staff at both stores have always been friendly to me, but the demeanor is different ... three, a good, reasonably priced wine selection. The lines, compared to many TJ's around the bay (e.g., TJ's on Masonic in SF on a Saturday), are manageable, but don't think you're going to park right in front of the store and whiz in an out in 5 minutes if you're showing up after work at 6pm! read more

There once was as Trader named Joe. Joe traveled around the world to bring you all kinds of Yummy snacks. You would swear they would cost triple the normal value. But no, the prices are fair, and normal. I love Trader Joes because they really do keep it real, and fair. Also, they personalize their store to the city they are in. Check out the wall in the back with Old Town Pinole paintings. To get to the point, love the biscuits, the samples, and the $0.19 bananas! I actually frequent several Trader Joe's, depending where I am when I have a list. There is not one in my town, so no matter what, it takes a drive to get there. I don't drive often, so there must be a reason to go. Trader Joe's never disappoints, except when a product is no longer carried. Always interesting, healthy and delicious products at great prices. This store's products helped me drop my cholesterol 30 points in 3 months! Gave me healthy alternatives to change my diet. Interesting and wonderful wines at great prices. Bob the wine guy is extremely knowledgeable and accommodating. Teresa in Fairfield helped my pick a great wine for my apple wine cake. I wish there was a store closer. read more

Used to like this place until they double charged me and have been giving me the run around on giving my money back. Their system says they didn't but my account says they did so give me my money!!! I told them I could provide them with my bank statement as well as the receipt which shows the amount I was double charged but still nothing!!! Sad world when honest people can't get what they deserve because people are always stealing or trying to con people! read more

I like the fact they have lots of organic meats and wild fish like salmon. I bought some organic chicken that was spoiled and smelled after one day in my refrigerator. It was $12.00 so I took it back and told them about it. They replaced it with another pack immediately and told me to not bother bring the rotten chicken next time, just the receipt will do they said. I think they should make their freezers a bit cooler, but the company is a refreshing change from the traditional supermarkets and far superior to Safeway and other big giants. read more
