I love the convenience parking. I can get in and out when I need to pick up a few things. All organic whole foods is the way to go.

Perfect for me- this store finally freed me and I don't shop at the big W anymore. I buy all prepared foods like ice cream and fancy ingredients like clarified butter here (much cheaper and better quality than anywhere else in town). Limited produce selection but I like how apples are sold per piece like a bodega and they more than make up for it by offering tons of organic prepared foods and incredible goodies- best chocolate at an incredible price (dark chocolate edamame, yum!). Their fresh cut flowers are less expensive and just as nice as any other grocer. read more

I never imagined a new comer to town would ever lure me away from my beloved Wegmans, but Trader Joes has done just that. I find my self cheating on my beloved quite regularly, and I now do about 80% of my shopping from Trader Joes. It began quite innocently, I merely wanted to check out the new Trader Joes. It was not what I expected, ( trendy, pretentious, expensive, like Whole Foods), it is just really good food at bargain prices, and the friendliest, most helpful staff. The organic and specialty items I buy are all cheaper at Trader Joes than at Wegmans. And TJs has some items I can't get at Wegmans. For example, I can get a 10 oz bag of organic wild arugula at Trader Joes for $1.99, a large pack of Persian cucumbers for $1.99, and a pack of 4 organic avocados for 3.99. These all sell for much more at Wegmans. I buy grass-fed ground beef, butter and cheese at TJs and I haven't found any grass-fed dairy or meat at Wegmans. Then there are the legendary Trader Joes brand products. Everybody seems to have their own list of faves but here are a few of mine: vanilla coconut milk, 100% cherry juice (amazing), those enormous bars of 72% cocoa dark chocolate bars for $5 (last me a month), old-fashioned graham crackers, organic whole milk yogurt. I have tried several of their store brand beers and they were all excellent, and better yet, you can mix and match a six pack with any kind of beer they sell! They don't have near the selection of Wegmans of course, it is a small store, but I have found that I prefer quality over quantity, and it's kind of a relief not to have all that choice. I still go to Wegmans for things like cat food, paper products, bulk food items, but that's it. Even though I have to travel 10 miles to Trader Joes instead of 1, I find it's always worth the trip. read more

Roc City's Best Gems of Places to go, Things to See and Eat: Wait! Is it Black Friday? Ah, Traders Joe's Specialty store has opened in the Pittsford Plaza on Monroe Avenue, situated at 3349 Monroe Avenue; is store #534. And what frenzy has been brought to the area. There was a maze of cars on the Saturday, October 6th which was the second day for their doors to be opened daily from 8am-9pm and store clerks were doing everything they could to keep the shelves stocked while maintaining especially friendly attitudes fit for the Hawaiian Islands that some were donned for. Even with the large crowd there still was a double stacked train of red shiny carts waiting for customers just outside the main door. I had to find out what all the hype was about so I ventured in to learn this grocery store is primarily based on selling organic specialty products where almost everything sold carries their name. On the way out, my reusable double packed enviro-friendly handled bag was packed full of every possible necessary item imaginable including chicken dog treats, U.S. made cat food, gluten free rice rice mac and cheese pasta, Cassia cinnamon, cocoa chips, cheese, mineral water, .19 cent bananas (3), designer protein whey and frozen blueberry scones. All must haves! Come visit for a visit. You won't be disappointed. I have a feeling 5 stars will be fully deserving when the crowds die down and the shelves get re-stocked! read more

Love the smaller size and fact can shop in 20 minutes and less and be done. The produict choices we like sometimes have limited availability. This store instead of a sign saying out of a product may simply pull its label off the shelf. The milk can spoil quickly 1-3 days or already nearly is when you buy it, not sure if it is delivery/supplier issues or they have a difficult time maintaining the temp needed to keep the contianers optimally cool..., 1st sign it might not be all that good to start is poof containers. Generally not the yogart, and eggs are good, but I think they tolerate a slightly lower temp better...also these pordcuts at Trader Joe's tend to have better shelf dates. You have to watch dates carefully however this is true of Wegmans as well (before Wegmans had massive expansion outside of Rochester their shelf dates were generallyt excellent, but now if you want good dates of Wegman products go to their store in Fairfax!!!! Dates and products there are usually excellent and also better at a Maega Wegmans in the Baltimore area we like to go on our way home from places South of here).... Rochester's Trader Joe's in freshness & expiration dates is not that much different than Wegmans, but some of the Wegmans in this area have slightly better refrigeration that Trader Joe's (in all fairness to our Trader's Joe's here we also note milk in some of their stores out of Rochester have the same issue with milk, dates and shelf life). Aldi's seems to have one of the better refrigeration on Jefferson Rd than others presently in Rochester...milk is not only cold, but generally not spoil in 2 -3 days. Price Chopper on Jefferson road was great until 2 years ago. Have not been back recently but may return to see if they have improved again. Again it may be the suppliers that are failing not our stores.... Until this week the CVS where we most often get milk was the best, but this week for the 1st time ever the 2 % milk had visibly poofy appearance in the case. Have never seen that before there. The whole milk looked fine as did all the milk products in the other containers. Also the milk all seemed as cold as it always does so is it the suppliers that are failing? When you have family members with young children, eldrely, or with leukemia, or on chemo or on medications where the immune system is not up to par you have to buy products very carefully. Trader Joe's in Rochester also eliminated their monthly drawing at the Holiday times this year. They said it was b/c were so busy at the holidays. Asked yesterday when it was coming back, and they said it was not b/c it interferred with the smooth check out process. We shop as much busier Trader Joe's that have not eliminated this. Also the other Trader Joes we shop at the staff seem better organized, staff not standing around talking to each other, never block the cusotmer when putting goods on the shelf and can be easily found if you need help finding something (not at our Trader Joe's...here turn over seems higher than other places). Last note often the vegetables 'fresh' in a bag are musty, this is true at other Trader Joes, though more here it seems... been burned enough here buy very few of these here! Stick to the frozen veggies. The frozen are usually excellent! The bread is often close to the expiration date, but that is the case in the other Trader Joe's we shop and bread from here makes great toast! There are a few reliable products we like to buy here, and generally the bananas, lemons, potatoes and tomatoes are reliably good! If in a hurry to shop and not that fussy there are enough products that are good or very good, AND priced at the average price of most around, some a few cents higher or lower. The time saved is worth consideration to shop here. The parking lot turn over is fast enough most times of the day for the quick shop as most who come now know exactly what products they are shopping for, and want to get out the door almost as fast as they came in! Wish the milk were a reliabel product we could buy here (on occasion try it again if the milk in the cardboard containers does not appear 'poofy'). Am thankful that the eggs & butter are. Am thankful they have given Wegmans a bit of a challenge in our area! And that you can shop quickly! read more

I am a native Californian that travels to Buffalo area and spoiled in LA by having at least 4 TJs within a 10 mile radius - now that I have that out of the way...this is not the TJs I know and love but I will take it. I am hopeful that once the "awe" settles down a bit, things will go back to normal and people will be focused on the healthier / eclectic side of TJs. Most of the original TJs are small (see Manhattan Beach for an original) and that is fine unless you have to deal with mindless shoppers...which is the case for now. By the way, TJs is not for Walmart shoppers...they do not have 3 pack pizzas and Blue Light (I hope) - I heard a woman complaining that they had nothing in "bulk" -TJs is focused on singles, couples and small families with a bend towards the healthier things in life. I will go back for my TJ fix while in the area but it is just not the same without the wine selections! I may try to find the quiet time to shop...maybe Sunday mornings? I love Trader Joes! It's a great place for high quality and low prices. And even an ever changing choice of fresh flowers and plants. I have never been disappointed with Trader Joes own brand, it's always high quality. Plus the size of the store is perfect - not overwhelming like Wegmans. I'm so glad they are here. read more

I'm sorry, but I just don't understand it. I do love my Wegmans, but heard good things about Trader Joe's so I went in for a look. I had a couple of all natural products I was looking for including some baking items (not mixes) and went into Trader Joe's to find them. The first time I left empty handed. They had not one item I was looking for. I was still optimistic the second time I ventured in, but left empty handed yet again. After leaving TJ's empty handed both times I headed over to Wegmans where I found exactly what I was looking for. I won't fight though the Pittsford Plaza traffic to go to TJ's which is tiny & has a minimal selection (in all their tiny departments) when I can just hit up one store (Wegmans) and get everything I need in one stop. AND, the nature's marketplace in Wegmans has more of a vegetarian & vegan selection than TJ's and a bigger baking selection. I did read the good reviews here and the two that actually mentioned food mentioned frozen meals & cookies. These are not the healthy options that I would expect people to be praising about this type of store... I'm very disappointed and won't be returning. read more

I first discovered TJ's when living in NYC, and wasn't really thrilled by it then, but their friendly staff and interesting products bring me back from time to time. This location offers the same experience. However, as a gluten free shopper, nothing rivals Wegmans labeling system and dedicated aisles. I am also uneasy about the plastic-wrapped vegetables, and on several occasions, have gotten items home to find them moldy. I will however, continue to shop for their novelty items and fresh flowers, which I have found to be reasonably priced. read more

The blueberry pie is absolutely tasteless. Crust is tasteless and tough. Absolutely recommend a NO BUY on this item!!

I don't shop @ Trader Joe's anymore because of their policy regarding beer purchases. It doesn't matter how old you are, you must show proof of age. I consider my grey hair and beard to be proof that I'm well over 21. Apparently their clerks don't possess that modicum of common sense that allows them to discern that quite a few people are well over the legal age and have been for several decades. Trader Joe's is my favorite place to shop. They are a smaller sized store but they have a great selection. They have so many specialty and vegan items you can't find at Wegmans. Their prices are very low too. The checkers are fast and it's always a pleasure to shop there. read more

I think most of you who complain about this store have never been to any other TJ's. The one at Union Square in NYC and the one in Philadelphia are both total nightmares in terms of crowds and lines and aisle space. The lines to check out in these stores literally wrap around the entire store and they have a worker at the end of the line just to maintain it because it is so crazy...so in my opinion this one is pretty docile. It is more spacious than most of the other stores I have visited and their selection is pretty good. I have found that there are times when they are out of what I want when I visit, also some of their items seem to be limited time and once you get hooked on it it's gone. Trader joes is definitely not the type of store for someone who really enjoys making everything from scratch. Most of the stuff they sell is prepackaged frozen entrees that are easy to put in a skillet or the oven to eat quickly. Perfect for students, busy professionals or people with children who do not have a lot of time to cook. The staff here, and at every other store I have ever visited for that matter, is incredibly cheerful. 9 out of 10 times I go here for my groceries. read more
