Afternoon quick grocery run. Not too busy and easy parking in the structure's lot. Shopping primarily for veggies and proteins. Veggies were plentiful stocked and looked good. Poultry, however, was like half missing. Wasn't necessarily able to get everything I wanted here. Most of the chicken that was available was bone in, skin on pieces, which was okay since I know how to break it down. But was just surprised to see half the sectioned cleared. Check out had a small line. Waited less than 3 min so very efficient. Friendly clerk. Smooth and easy for a quick run. read more

I had this awful experience at the 9th St. store (my main grocery store since 2006)... I bought smoked Salmon, opened it at home, it smelled a bit off, but I anyway ate it. Got a stomach upset. I went back to the store WITH the half-eaten package to get a refund. Spoke to customer service, told her I've been buying this product for decades, and there was definitely something wrong. She offered a refund. All this was perfectly normal; I've occasionally returned products (sometimes without even bringing the product back) and there was never an issue. Did my shopping, went to checkout, and I told the clerk I had a refund. She called customer service. Again everything normal up to this point. Another customer service guy came over, asked me for my receipt. I told him I never get one from this store (never had a need for it). He asked a couple of other questions and AGAIN asked me for my receipt. At that point I got irritated, asked him why he was REPEATEDLY asking for it (he had most of the package back in his hands). He said "I AM SIMPLY DONG MY JOB". (He literally made me feel like a low-down criminal, asking for a refund.) I told him, "I've been coming to this very store for the past TWENTY years, NONE of the other customer service people have asked me for my receipt, even once. So what you're saying is simply not true". He WALKED OUT on me, saying "SO YOU THINK I'M NOT DOING MY JOB, OKAY I WON'T TAKE BACK THE ITEM. HAVE A GOOD DAY!" I said, "I'm going to stand here until I get my refund". The sales clerk simply moved away to another counter. At that point, I lost my temper and started shouting at them. (Imagine having to SHOUT to get a freaking refund on a SPOILED item!) Someone ELSE eventually came over from customer 'service' and issued the refund. With the usual platitudes. THIS IS HOW TRADER JOE'S TREATED ONE OF THEIR MOST LOYAL CUSTOMERS! (EVEN ON VACATION, I USED TO LOOK FOR THEIR STORES.) I'm not going to step into one of their stores EVER again. (Whole Foods has way better meat and fish selections. And most of Trader Joe's items can be purchased on Amazon.) read more

Probably the most on site parking of any Trader Joe's in San Francisco. The store on a Tuesday Afternoon was not crowded, it was well stocked, and had a security person at the entrance to encourage good behavior by all. Tons of parking during this visit, and many of the latest added products were in stock. As is standard the store was clean and well maintained with a helpful friendly staff. Maybe this is Memorial weekend and no one shops and everyone is out of town. We'll, Great opportunity. I bought the strawberry rhubarb and so glad I did. Such strawberry flavor. If you have a toaster oven and heat it back up, it would be like you just made it fresh. Why does food make us so satisfied? The Thai peanut satay sauce was speaking to me. "Buy me, I'll elevate your bite. " I also found Pork Belly, last package. It reminds me of roast pork.. I just need to pan fry it. Today was a success indeed. The blaring Lynard Skynard while shopping experience is absolutely the worst. I'll be shopping elsewhere from here on out.

Service was okay and met my expectations. The staff were polite and things were explained clearly.

Love this location, right off the freeway, and great parking. Inside, the store has a nice layout to find everything with ease. The service has always been great every time I've gone, and they're always fully stocked on the items you're looking for. More recently, I went for mochi ice cream, chocolate gummy bears, and their popular soft and juicy dried mango. Was so glad to have left the store with all those goodies :) read more

This is my go to grocery store. This is also the only business that has stuck around in this shopping center where everyone else has left. I hope they stay for a long time because I love Trader Joe's. The store is well organized and clean, and I can find most of my ingredients here. Prices is also very competitive despite not using coupons. The staff are always helpful and around. I always love to check out their new items. My usual staple items to get are milk, cheese, condiments, bananas and chips. read more

[This review is specifically for the new TJ's in Hayes Valley at 555 Fulton - the business listing was "unclaimed" so Yelp arbitrarily applies it to the 9th & Brannan location *sigh* items in my cart still apply to this location & the people who work this store are also fantastic] It's only day one, but shelves are stocked with every(!) product (including the Japanese soufflé cheesecakes that I've been searching for) and the employees are all smiles. I consider myself lucky to live within 1.5mi of SIX Trader Joe's, and with this new location, it's the closest yet AND I no longer need to walk through sketchy SoMa or climb up a hill. The items always in my basket: - Greek chickpeas - Aglio olio - Elote corn dippers (boyfriend devours) - Dutch griddle cakes - Moroccan mint tea - Almond/sunflower butter cups - Sour jelly beans I'll get produce if I plan to use within the next day, but try to stick to shelf stable stuff, and even then, keep an eye on expiry date. Ambience on opening morning was quite festive, honestly wayyyy too many people in business attire for a TJ's, quite the juxtaposition with the Crew's floral Hawaiian shirts... but welcome to SF, amiright? Just a quick update for the dog owners (like me) out there. Imagine you're in the store with your dog on a busy Saturday afternoon. An older person takes a step back, and accidentally steps on your dog's tail. Your dog jumps up, barks (understandable) and the senior falls backwards and breaks their wrist. Now this person will have to go through months of painful physical therapy. Just because you had to have your dog in the store with you. I fully support Service Animals, but if you can't say what service your dog provides for you, you're just creating a hazard for the rest of the community. Someone's right not to get injured should override your right to have Fido by your side, no? And it's the law - for everyone's benefit. read more

Hidden inside a parking lot and the last surviving business in that tiny strip mall, is Trader Joe's. Nordstrom Rack, Bed Bath Beyond, Peet's are long gone. It's not a large TJ's and they didn't have green onions that I wanted. The Vegt area could be larger. It's quite popular and lines are long gone but the staff is efficient and quick. read more

Everything about TJ's is great. The prices and the workers. They are always so friendly and helpful

The food choices here are, by large majority, their own products or things you won't find easily elsewhere. We swear by their frozen foods. Mini pizzas, egg rolls, mini samosas, piroshkis, and the light Mac n cheese is an easy lunch favorite of my wife's when she is WFH. Their frozen 3 minute rice chooses are so easy and good for a shortcut at dinner time. The snacks are also great. Good fruit, veggies, nuts, and dairy options too. They always have very interesting seasonal offerings across all product lines. But the service really sets them apart from almost all other large grocery stores. The employees will alway go out of their way to help you find something. Darting into the back room to find what might be missing from the shelf. The stores are always clean and well organized. The staff is constantly restocking and reorganizing to keep it that way. Cons - don't fall in love with anything. Because they will often stop making it. Sad but true. If you're a pumpkin fan, you have to check out Trader Joe's harvest themed goodies! Ranges from Apple cider to pumpkin spice. I personally loved the pumpkin cheesecake, small pumpkin cones and the pretzels. I wasn't a huge fan of the pumpkin hummus. But I love trying out the different products! Next on my list is the pumpkin sticky cake since all of my friends are raving about it. Definitely check them out! Clean, well-organized, true this is the first Trader Joe's in San Francisco? I admit: I avoided Trader Joe's during the pandemic. I'd park, "Hey, I got a spot!", then realize the snaking line of 3-city blocks was just to get into the store. However, their branded products and well-priced items like nuts, eggs, condiments, dairy and most vegetables pull you back in like Al Pacino in The Godfather III. Before you know it you're in front of the colorful, interestingly organized and well merchandised "new items" section. Soon you're grabbing an armful of Elote seasoning, tins of salted caramel hot chocolate and kimchi-tofu soup. Trader Joe's owns you again, at least for a portion of your grocery budget. Their Achilles heel, however, is their meat case: They have *sky high* prices on filets, chicken breasts and most of their pork and beef. They have some of the highest pricing in the city. I usually limit my purchases in this department to a package of ground beef or pork. Great staff at this location, they keep the lines moving and are friendly. Parking in the private lot is plentiful if you're not picky and demand to be 40 feet from the door. read more

This is a convenient Trader Joe's with a semi tough to find entrance. The entrance isn't on the street, it's inside the parking side hiddem from view. The store is a little smaller than others but pack a solid selection from snacks, to wine, to veggies. Prices are pretty reasonable and the staff is friendly. read more

I arrived at 8;54pm got to the doors to pick up a bunch of items, before I noticed that the store was closing in 4 minutes and I knew I would need a little more time, so I told the security at the door that I'll come back tomorrow. He picked up a basket and kindly said "we're happy to be here until you have what you need" . Well, if that doesn't make a shopper feel truly appreciated I don't know what does! Thanks TJ's! TJs is my main grocery store and this is one of my favorite locations, especially during the Covid-19 period. There was no waiting line to enter this morning (perfect timing on a Sunday day morning) but they have clearly marked 6' standing spots outside for waiting patrons. You must wear a mask to shop inside. TJs has the best prices of any grocery store & they've managed to keep their prices low over the years despite inflation, which is a miracle but they must have a great relationship with farms & suppliers. Fresh fruits & vegetables, meats, pre-packaged salads, ready to heat chicken Marsala, chicken piccata, Mac & cheese balls, cookies, chips, hard liquor, beer, wine, are some of their offerings. They have a great cheese section too. TJs has the happiest, friendliest & most helpful employee that I've ever encountered in a grocery store (in the locations that I've visited in the Bay). Lots of parking available (as other businesses are closed due to Covid) as there a 2 story lot. read more

I recently went to this branch of Trader Joe's. Trader Joe's is like a cross between Rainbow Grocery & Costco. Some unique items here are the frozen wild organic blueberries. I love the Trader Joe's brand of Unsweetened Soy Milk. They have arugula, kale, & assorted salad mixes. Their tahini is a fairly good price for 12 ounces. One thing I wish they had would be tamari as they only have low sodium soy sauce which I wasn't a fan of. This Trader Joe's is average size as I have been to both smaller & larger branches. Shopping at this TJ everyday I familiarized myself with a few associates and am used to keep good , fun exchanges with them My insouciance and candid communication about an innocent issue turned into a full blown situation regrettably It taught me a valuable lesson about corporate rules of conduct in the US where generally free expression in a work place is discouraged because any kind of communication between staff and public could possibly spin into the folly of unjustified speculation and leave all parties open for what could look like harassment. The threat of being wrongly accused is potent and we all lose because the fear of wrongdoing has stifled human communication and is turning us into Robots. They are already working @Amazon , soon at TJ , cars are driven without drivers etc...Sad world sending people into loneliness and eventually mental issues or drug abuse. So silence wins but damages the quality of spontaneous connection and freedom of expression among us the Real People. I'm a regular shopper at many of the Trader Joe's locations. The staff is always very helpful with a good vibe. There's always a great selection of interesting Foods in general and I love the market for what it is. This review however is to reflect the fact that I bought two stocking stuffer for gift cards as Christmas gifts. Both with a small value of 25 dollars each. At least one of the cards had zero balance at the time of redemption. I have the gift card receipts and presented it along with the card to the customer service at the South San Francisco location where I tried to use the card. I'm still waiting on a reply as to what happened to the funds. Was I the victim of some sort of gift card scam? I have yet to find out. With that in mind. I unfortunately have to say beware when purchasing gift cards from Trader Joe's. It will definitely not be among my future purchases.Update* after two weeks. Went back to TJoes's to talk to the customer service representative I brought my problem to. He never botheted to called me back after corporate told him that the money on my card was spent. It would have been nice to know i was scammed but I can only guess Trader Joe's assumed I was lying. Very disappointed in the customer service. Yikes. Came here on a Friday evening and this place was packed. No one was managing the door or controlling how many customers went in. On top of that, I was looking to pick up some focaccia and the bread was over 10 days past sell by. Wow. Onion stand looked like they were in poor condition too. Edit: It has been brought to my attention I read the expiration label wrong. At the time of the photo, they were not expired as the label said April 3rd, 21, not 3/21/21. However, it was clear that the bread was not fresh (none of them were) which was why I checked the (hastily) checked the expiration date in the first place. Given that none of the focaccia looked appealing and I left the store empty handed, I am retaining the 1/5 rating. read more

[Covid-era review] I have to say that I am very impressed with the way this TJ's is handling crowds to maintain social distancing. Yes the line seems to wrap to the edge of the parking lot, but they periodically come out to ensure us that it is better we wait outside while maintaining safe distances so that once we're inside we have room to shop and cam move about and get out quickly. It took me 25 minutes on Thursday at 4:30pm to get inside. Indeed, the store stayed empty enough that I felt safe shopping. No lines at the register either! I stood behind a taped line while 1 associate scanned and another person bagged. Fortunately, TJ's is eliminating bag fees because we cannot bring our own in. All the workers seemed in good spirits and even with masks on, I can tell they are all still smiling. Despite the anxiety, they made the experience as safe and pleasant as possible. We typically go to this Trader Joe's location because there is a parking lot. However, gotta say it's not one of my favorite ones to go to. Just like any other TJs you'll usually step foot in, weekends are crazy packed. I'm also not sure what time they usually restock items/receive items, but there have been multiple occasions where the shelf has missing items (could be COVID related). The layout was also horrendous at one point in time because of where the check out stands and aisles were next to each other, but they did change the aisle next to check out stands and that has been an improvement. And lastly, good ol' customer service. I've had amazing customer service in almost all of the TJs that I go to, except for this one. This is the only one where people don't greet you and the cashiers are truly a hit or miss. My last visit had a really indifferent person ringing up my food. My food was packed with no rhyme or reason, (I brought an insulated bag and they just stuffed it with no concern, and didn't put all of the refrigerated/frozen items inside and instead put my ice cream in a TJs paper bag???) and I almost felt like I was bothering them by asking them to double bag the heavy groceries. My husband encountered the same problem with his cashier in one of his visits a couple of weeks ago or so. All in all... it's TJs and you'll probably find the items you want in this store and don't have to worry about parking. However, a suggestion is to scan the cashiers first if you're buying more than just snacks. read more
