I wanted to try something new for lunch and decided on Tradicional 314. Lunch is served until 3, so I had the option of ordering from that menu or dinner if I chose. I told my server I was torn between the lunch tacos and the shrimp Al ajillo and she suggested the latter because it's more flavorful. Although it wasn't busy, it took longer than expected to get my meal, especially for it being to-go. Even though I removed the onions and the spicy chiles, there wasn't much to the dish other than the shrimp, rice, and a little lettuce. In spite of that, the shrimp was packed with flavor but I wish I had more than a handful of rice to go with it. Overall, the server was friendly and the food was good. The salmon perfectly cooked with a poblano sauce, smothering it perfectly. I ate almost half of my wife's shredded chicken taco salad because between the chicken and the refried beans that they put in the salad you can't stop wanting to go back for another bite. Nini is a star behind the bar with libations that make Tuesday after a crappy work day feel like you've been transported to somewhere far more tropical and exquisite. Restaurant sits to the back of a stip mall off of Olive. We were in search of a place with some happy hour specials. Came in sat at the bar and ordered a few drinks. Decided to have some food as well and they didn't disappoint. Torta and tacos were full of authentic flavors not the watered down flavorless stuff commonly seen around the Midwest. Oh yeah. Usually any restaurant within walking distance of my hotel is analogous to a roach infested McDonald's. Not so tonight! A lengthy menu of anything but traditional Mexican fare greeted me. Unassuming exterior in a strip mall but the food and staff make this a great experience. They have a full bar, happy hour specials, lunch specials and kid friendly, clean, brightly lit and well decorated. The 24 ounce strawberry Margarita was perfect accompaniment for the meal. The Pollo 636 was a great choice, chicken breast butterflied , breaded and deep fried and covered with chorizo, shrimp and cheese and served with rice and beans. He said my order should be finished in 15 minutes and I live in brentwood so by the time I got there it was all ready to be picked up! This is definitely the best Mexican food I've ever eaten. The side of beans after the enchiladas was kind of weak. I just can't be a fan of puréed pinto beans. If you're gonna make frijoles refritos you should mash the beans and leave some partially mashed or whole. While not bad they were just average Paling by comparison with the enchiladas. Had a great lunch today at Tradicional 314! The service was excellent - very friendly staff, very helpful with ordering, answering questions, and even held the door open as we left with a kind message to please come back. Our group of 4 had the Queso Fundito appetizer, which was yummo and devoured by everyone! We also enjoyed their complimentary chips and red / green salsas. Both had a little heat, but were tasty - although a little spicy for some in our party. I liked that the salsas came in squeeze bottles with individual little sauce cups. We each could get our own salsas of choice, and no worries about double dipping that way! I had 3 individual tacos - pescado (fish), pollo (chicken), and al pastor (pork). All were very good! My fave was the fish. It was fresh, flavorful and had a nice little sauce and slaw on top to complement. The chicken was a close 2nd. It had great flavor with some onion and cheese to accompany. I got them all on corn tortillas, which were wonderful, along with an order of their grilled whole (mini) onions (can't remember what they were called). The onions were still pretty firm, and could have been grilled to soften a bit more. I still ate them and enjoyed that they were kissed by fire, as it was a tasty side to the tacos. The others in our party got a lunch 1/2 order of chicken fajita, a burrito, and an enchilada. Everyone either cleaned their plates or asked for to go boxes - portions were great! Ambiance and experience was very nice - clean, welcoming, not loud, decent prices, lots of parking... they aren't a huge restaurant though. So seating might be limited IF they get super busy. But the food and service would make it worth it! I suspect there are some family recipes being made there -- food was just really, really good! We were there over 4th of July holiday week. Hidden Gem in Creve Cour Ambiance Location is in a weird spot hidden away in a strip mall. You wouldn't know it is a Mexican restaurant due to simple and subtle signage. Food I want to start by saying I am not a Mexican fan most of the time. I'm not the first to say I want Mexican tonight but enjoy most of the things I eat. From the appetizer to the entrée, it was DELICIOUS. The complimentary salsa was FRESH and had great flavor. Corn chips were cooked perfectly. Chorizo queso had the right amount of balance savoriness bc sometimes the chorizo can be overpowering (base on past experiences at other places). Birra tacos were some of the best and not something you don't see on many menus. Definitely a must try. Carne asada is a classic and cooked perfectly. There is more parking below the building than it originally appears FYI. The menu filled me with excitement when I read homemade tortillas, sopes, homemade mole, and even homemade thick tortilla gorditas. Such tough decisions! I opted to try a gordita and sope. The gordita was soft, flaky and oh so good. Nothing at all like Taco Bell! The sope was okay compared to the gordita but still really good. The guacamole was so fresh and I was impressed with the tomato onion topping for presentation. I also really appreciated that the drink menu was not only beer, wine and margaritas. My pineapple whiskey cocktail was refreshing and hit the spot! My friends margaritas were a big hit and we loved how they used old salsa jars as the serving glasses. The staff is always friendly and the restaurant is dark but cozy. When you walk in, it's a tight squeeze but even with a party of 6 we were able to sit quickly. The menu has a black background and tiny writing, so don't forget your reading glasses! The chips are awesome and they come with a green and red sauce, which are both very good! We also got the queso, but it's not a lot! (it's a little bowl actually) but very good! Now our dinners were fabulous! I had the Quesabirria and oh my were they great!! They took the Birria tacos & made it better!! I came here on a double date not really knowing what to expect. I have a local favorite Mexican place, so I was curious how this would compare. We went on a Friday night, so it was quite busy, so I'm glad that I was able to make reservations. The parking lot right outside of the restaurant is pretty small, but there is a parking area right below the restaurant where you would need to take stairs up to the restaurant. There were plenty of spots there. I looked at the menu ahead of time and decided on the Alambre. Something I never had before, but it sounded delicious. I started with the house margarita, the 24oz, not the 32oz. Though when I took my first sip, I wished I had gotten the 32oz because it was soo good. But then as I was close to finishing the margarita, I realized how strong it was and was glad I got the 24oz. The Alambra was incredible. The peppers, protein, cheese, onions all had a nice char to them paired with the flour tortilla our server recommended, I could eat this at least once a week. I also had a bite of my spouse's veggie burrito, I was pleasantly surprised as to how good it was even though I'm a big meat eater. The whole table really enjoyed everything they had. I chose the marinated pork and it was garnished with pineapple, onions and cilantro and it came with rice and refried beans. The tacos were very small which was disappointing. I went there today for lunch with colleagues. Parking is available in front of the restaurant. It was not too busy we were greeted warmly and seated quickly. We got the free chips and salsa for the table. When i asked for vegetarian options- there are only two one is veggie burrito and veggie tacos. I ordered veggie burrito, it was good. My coworker and I had lunch here yesterday. We both got the 2 enchilada special one each of beef and chicken. The service was fairly good. The focus wall has a painted scene of 3 Hispanic ladies dancing in brightly colored patterned dresses. The food came to our table hot from the kitchen in about 15 minutes. The enchiladas were served with refried beans and Spanish rice. The enchiladas were covered with verde sauce, lettuce, tomatoes and onions. They were delicious. The only downside to this place is the music. It is played at fairly high volume so conversation is difficult. The prices are a bit high, the 2 of us spent $33 with soft drinks for lunch. read more

Quite a while ago a friend posted about this place. We LOVE Mexican food, so of course we had to try it. And we've been going ever since. We hadn't been there is a few months, and when we arrived tonight, we noticed a few changes. They added more tables and reconfigured the place a little bit to accommodate them. There's nothing typical about Tradicional, including the decor. It's kind of chill and doesn't have the "typical" Mexican restaurant decor. The service is great. We've had a number of different servers there and they're all pleasant and on top of things. But the food and cocktails are what keep us coming back. Our favorite cocktail is the Silencio Del Rio. If you don't like mezcal, do not get this cocktail! It's made of mezcal, fresh watermelon juice and muddled jalapeños. Yum! Each week of the month, they have a special that runs M-F of the week. The first week of the month, is Molé Poblano week. It's the best molé we've found in STL! Their birria is also good - a lot of things are! There's no "guaca salad"! It is hard to find delicious traditional Mexican food in St. Louis and I really enjoyed the ambiance & food that Tradicional 314 has to offer. We were welcomed upon arrival & immediately sat despite it looking so incredibly busy at peak time - which is great to see. After being sat, we immediately were greeted with complimentary chips and green & red salsa options. Both salsas were very delicious with a little bit of heat, which makes me incredibly happy. Our server was polite and timely while maintaining her other tables & keeping up with the kitchen perfectly. We ordered drinks - Pacifico draft & a House Margarita - & Ezquites to start the meal. Ezquites were very delicious with tons of flavor - little sweet and little citrus. For dinner, I enjoyed the Al Pastor tacos - which were made traditionally and in the perfect TJ taco style. The flavors popped and were complimented with the pineapple. My boyfriend enjoyed the Gringas Tacos - which are similar to Al Pastor, but add grilled cheese! Holy Lord, this place was a religious experience for me. This was a last night, spontaneous find on our family's annual spring trip to STL from TN a few weeks ago. It was right next to our hotel and we wanted something easy. From the second you walk in, you quickly realize this is not your average Mexican restaurant in the Southeast/Midwest. The restaurant is beautiful and moody. A real vibe. We did, of course, get a cheese dip but the real dip stars were the guacamole, and honestly just their house salsas which were so rich and unique. None of us could decide what we liked most. For dinner, I got the Posole that was on special that night (I think it's only available on Sat & Sun). Not only was it somehow fresh and incredibly hearty at the same time, but I'm pretty sure it could grow back a limb. Also got a delish little Al Pastor Sope but was so in love and full from the Posole, I couldn't give it the attention it deserved. Our kids split the kids steak quesadilla, which I was definitely stealing bites from because it was so good. My husband and uncle both got the Barbacoa (also only on Sat/Sun), which was truly divine. My aunt got the Molcajete and couldn't stop praising it. Everyone but me got the house margaritas which were huge and incredibly refreshing, however, I made everyone jealous with my mezcal cocktail called Silencio Del Rio, which I will be trying to recreate until I am able to go back to Tradicional 314. Finding authentic Mexican in St Louis used to be impossible, while it's gotten better in recent years, Tradicional (both 636 and 314 locations) stand apart for the combination of authentic menu items with great ingredients, prepared in both traditional and new-school ways. Their house-made salsas are unique and so good I usually buy some to-go before we leave. The creamy, roasted pepper Salsa is my fav. I've had everything from tacos, to the posole and it's all been top notch. Fresh ingredients, great seasoning, and expert preparation make for a first class experience.
