I've been to enough whiskey bars in the Northeast US to raise my eyebrows at their claim of having "the largest selection of Irish whiskey in the country." They definitely have the best selection in the Hudson Valley and beyond that... I'm just not sure how far beyond. Instead, I'll raise my glass and enjoy the casual pub atmosphere as well as the food and drink. Armed with some suggestions from well-researched friends, we enjoyed our pours here this evening. Prices feel more like we were drinking in Westchester County than Dutchess, but still okay. The information on their bourbons, scotches, and ryes, could be better, not just a brand name. If you enjoy burgers, you really can't go wrong here with any of the selections on the menu, accompanied by well-prepared and crisp fries. The burgers are cooked exactly to order, and these meals will come out quickly. The fries are perhaps a bit "Can we get you another drink?" salty. Service here is friendly and very casual, and you might get some tastings if you sit at the bar. They have stuff going on many evenings during the week. I'm sure they have reasons, but I'm very surprised at their cash-only policy. At least in my own circles, having plastic as a resource very often increases our likelihood of buying additional rounds of drinks. They do have an ATM in the back near the rest rooms. But in future visits, I'll be perfectly happy to exchange cash for my food and drink. read more

If I could give a lower rate I would have the first time we were her I would have given the food a five star experience but the second time it was a negative star experience. All four people left thinking how is this place still open. The drinks might have been non alcoholic drinks. My wife can't even drink one mix drink without catching a strong buzz after two she felt nothing. We had to go to Santa fa after leaving there and got her real drink. The food was lacking the flavor it once had the fries and rosemary was delicious and the burgers were done perfect and fish fry had a lot of fish in them. Now it is the complete opposite experience. I don't know if they had a chef change or not. If you like flavorless food and batter with fish flavor but no real fish in it this is the place for you. The place is a nice looking old fashion kind of place I hope they can turn it around. read more

Came her on St.Patrick's day. Live Irish music. Moist corn beef. Potato need more butter and salt. Big nice carrots. Ordered French onion soup. It was sweet and served with dinner. Waitstaff was ok but the bartenders perfect Ginger and Jameson made up for it. No dessert but that's ok. What sounded like a great menu has the poorest of executions. The food here is disgustingly substandard. The raspberry mojito cocktail highlighted on the menu was unavailable on a Friday @6 due to no raspberries! The wings so dried out you could choke on them. The fries need an oil change, the burger overcooked. I could march through every item ordered with the same response but would rather not revisit the entire meal. The only highlight was the service , prompt and courteous. With so many fantastic choices, this restaurant a blemish on the town of Tivoli. read more

I was excited to take my husband to try this place after seeing it in Hudson Valley Magazine. The website says it opens at 5:00p but at 5:50p we encountered a locked door and when we knocked were told they didn't open for another 10 minutes and the door was locked again. At 6:00 the outside lights were turned on but the door remained locked. We sat in our car and over the course of the next 15 minutes watched several other people attempt to enter and leave because the door was locked. By 6:20 we gave up and went elsewhere for dinner. My husband hosts a monthly whiskey club together with a local Spirits merchant so this experience will also be shared with the members as having been dubious at best. read more

This bar was very cute and charming! However, we were disappointed to be kicked out at 12:30 am. The bartender began putting chairs on tables around midnight, and when we asked her what time they closed she told us, "We're closed now." She then explained that, while, they usually close at 2 as advertised, they close early when the bar is "dead like this." There were five people in the bar at this time so it seemed odd to me to declare it dead. We asked if we could finish our beers and she said yes, but then rudely told us that we had to leave when we were still finishing them. Went to this bar with friends tonight and were stopped at the door by a rude woman. She told us that they could not allow anyone into the bar right now. And told us to leave. As we left she allowed a large group in that were standing behind us. I'm always looking for good local bars for our group to hang in. This one is def off the list. Awesome place, had a lot of fun there with my friends. Burgers are delicious and the beer selection is great! Came there on a Saturday, there was a cool band playing and then we stayed for karaoke which was great! The atmosphere is super cozy and laid-back, the back garden looks like out of a fairy-tale! We got the most disrespectful service from Sarah the bartender and the door man on this particular night. I have been attending this bar for years and am in the service industry as well so I am familiar with bar code. The bartender was extremely rude and asked us to leave for no good reason. Comfortable bar with pub food. A friend and I sat the bar. Friendly waitress. The food was TERRIBLE. Got the special... short ribs. Beef is grown locally... so was looking forward. The short ribs came out COLD. Not lukewarm, but cool. Broccoli also cool. Mashed potatoes in the middle were slightly hot. Go figure? Really, I should have sent back the short ribs and asked them to heat them up, but I was with a new friend and felt awkward. Even if they were hot, I don't think they would have been good. They were not plump or juicy... and the sauce was nothing special on them. Stick with beer. Oh... we were there on a Saturday night, and it appears to be a hangout for Bard students. If you dropped this place in Brooklyn, people would go nuts for it (and subsequently ruin the vibe). Huge back yard, good draft selection, easy going crowd of different ages. It's the kind of unassuming place where you go to decompress and it never fails. One thing that goes beyond the no frills approach is the Sunday night bluegrass jam session. A couple of Sundays ago, there were about a dozen amazing musicians just doing their thing - really made our night. Look no further! read more

If you sell a 'prime' local Bourbon for $16 a shot, you should inform people of the price before you pour it. Not assume they can pay for it. That is not normal. This bartender was a cocky and opportunistic. Only Veuve and Macallan costs that much, and you know the names of those. read more

This is a fantastic place to gather for drinks, and when things are working right, get a great meal. I don't go that often, but the last two times I've eaten there, my meal has been terrific. My burger (hand made patty, fresh beef) was outstanding, and the salad that went with it was also wonderful. Large portions. I would give five stars, but they have to work out some staffing issues. We've come here a couple times now and the menus changes but is aways wonderful and eclectic. We just had the scotch eggs and the were absolutely wonderful. For a beer geek like me, the tap List is excellent. And for the wine lover like my wife, the list is equally excellent. And let's not forget the amazing Irish whiskey list. We were so excited to try a new place nearby, and this pub was SO dark we had to dig out our phones for their flashlights, our waitress was GREAT, but the music on a Friday evening was so loud that we could barely talk, thank goodness we were in a back room. The burger was ok--not as good as Gigi's, Terrapin's, Liberty's, Le Petit Bistro, or Boitson's--all in the hood, the roasted chicken atop a grain was tasty but a green would have been nice. No bread, affordable wine, so not BAD but certainly not worth a return for us. It's really better for folks who live right there in Tivoli or the Bard college crowd, probably we're too old, oh well. read more

I'm very upset with this place and the atmosphere. All I wanted was a nice dinner with my husband and upon looking at the menu I thought we were making a great decision, however I was very wrong. First of all when someone walks into your establishment maybe you should be polite and say hello? If you don't have to wait to be seated, how about you tell the people at the door that they can sit wherever they feel comfortable, instead of looking at them with blank stares and not saying a word. I was willing to look past this, so we sat down and then we were told that it was a cash only place. Maybe you should advertise this? I was also willing to look past this. We sat at the table, sweating because apparently you can charge $18 for a burger, but you can't afford to have a nice air conditioner? Some people go out to dinner to escape the heat and have a nice atmosphere, but not at this place. I proceeded to order my meal and I went for one of the specials that evening, which was a fried cod fish sandwich. Pretty hard to fuck one of those up, but some how they managed to make it the blandest fish sandwich I have ever eaten in my life. Also my husband's burger was sub par to say the least. I'm the type of person who really doesn't like to complain about their food but it was tasteless and I wasn't going to pay over $15 for a fish sandwich that happened to be the worst one I have ever had. On to the best news.. I received some spicy aoili to help the flavor, which was nice, until I pulled a fucking COD WORM OUT OF MY MOUTH!! I know what a cod fish worm looks like and this was definitely one.. I told the waiter, while trying to keep my cool and sent it back. The waiter proceeds to tell me that it is not a cod fish worm and that it was a vein. Homey, I have NEVER EVER HAD A FUCKING VEIN IN MY COD FISH SANDWICH LIKE THAT! Don't tell me I'm wrong. Take the fucking food away and apologize, that's all that needed to be done. I will never ever go back to this place and it's over priced bullshit. read more

This place recently brought on a new chef who has created a great new seasonal menu. His specials are fantastic and often based on local produce -- I had a red kuri squash soup last week that was to die for. I love the atmosphere here; very cozy and comfortable inside and they have a great patio outside. Traghaven is my new go-to place to take the family for a casual dinner in Tivoli. Creative menu without being over the top, with something for everyone (even the kids), reasonable prices, and great service! They also have a lot of fun events -- trivia night, live music, etc. Definitely worth checking out. read more

I am a local and I enjoy the food here a lot. I also love that they have such an astoundingly large whiskey collection...but be wary of the prices. I ordered Hudson Valley Distillery Baby Bourbon 'neat' not having looked at the menu, expecting it to cost no more than $10.... and it ended up being a whopping $16... and on top of that it wasn't even a full shot. This new pub restaurant opened this spring, replacing the Black Swan. The food was delightfully good with some of the usual pub fare as well novel menu items such as fish croquettes and whiskey shrimp. The outside dining patio was very pleasant. We would go back again! read more
