We love Stinson airport, and all airport cafes to be honest (Fredericksburg and Uvalde also have great ones!), so after hearing about the new Trailblazer Café opening we decided to give it a try! First and foremost, if you want to ensure seating it is very wise to pick an nontraditional time to visit (the owner advised the same!). We got there around 2pm and two other groups were present but getting a table wasn't a problem. However, it's a small and I suspect a very soon-to-be-even-more-popular restaurant; so there is a chance you'll have to wait during peak eating hours! Now, I will admit I looked over the menu online and nothing really jumped out to me, so I was a bit nervous about ordering something I'd like. I am not into spicy foods, and it seemed like many items had such ingredients. However, I went with the same bet and got the Call Me Old Fashioned (appropriately named) hamburger minus the spicy brown mustard, as did my son. We got ours medium-well on whole wheat buns and with fries, which turned out to be excellent choices! As a reminder, this is a "scratch kitchen," meaning none of the food is prepared ahead of time; so there will be some waiting on your food to hit your table but to be honest it didn't seem to take too long (things were a bit quieter than normal though). Our burgers were perfectly done. I used to get burgers well done, which tended to dry them out; but these were spot on! Cooked well but still juicy, just the way we like them! The fries were excellent as well, shoestring types with a great potato taste and just the right amount of salt. My wife got the Spin Heart sandwich which you'll have to look up on the menu (https://trailblazercafe.square.site/?location=11ed3223aa192270a9c1ac1f6bbbd01e) but which she loved as well. About the only critique I had was with the drinks. They offer bottled items (Cokes, Fanta Orange, etc.) in a display at the register, and bring you a cup of ice. While nice, I simply prefer cold drinks without ice as it tends to water down the drink! Except for an excellent restaurant in Bahrain, which had ice made from Coke (no kidding, it was really cool!), this has been my preference for years! It would be nice if the drink bottles themselves were cold and not dependent on the ice to the right temperature. Otherwise, we will most definitely be returning! It was fun eating while watching planes and helicopters take off and fly by (I said we like airport cafes!), and the food was some of the best we've had in a long time! I almost hesitate sharing such a glowing review as I know this place will get more popular as word gets out (it's only been open a month or two), but they deserve recognition as if such places aren't supported, they may not be around too long; and Trailblazer Café needs to stick around! I'm a student pilot at Stinson airport, I always come to Trailblazer for lunch after a long morning of flying! The staff, especially Lizzy, are always very kind and personable, even going so far as to remember my regular order and making sure I have everything I want. The food itself is fantastic, I really recommend their Whiskey Chick sandwich and their iced Mocha, but their Rueben and burgers are also wonderful. As far as location and view, you literally cannot get better for any person who cares about aviation: the restaurant has a large glass window running the full length of the outside wall allowing you to view almost the entirety of runway 14-32. I can't even remember how many times I've seen some awesome aircraft take off or chatted with another pilot I met while eating. Overall a wonderful experience! read more

Came today for breakfast. Ordered a create your own breakfast plate with a pancake, hash browns, and over hard eggs. This is what I was given. Scrambled eggs, a cold pancake and French fries for hash browns. When I asked to have my egg over hard they brought me an over easy egg that was runny. Do better trailhead. This was quite possibly the worst food I've ever had. Please save your money and go to a restaurant where the cook knows how to make something as basic as eggs. read more

First the two ladies working the counter and cooking were incredibly friendly and helpful! I needed a low carb breakfast and they helped me figure out a bowl that would work for me. The food here is cooked to order and deliciously seasoned. I got my order to go and in minutes my food was ready! Love this little cafe!!! Everything is house made...all the way from the buns for their burgers to their vegan chicken strips!! Nothing frozen, all fresh. It's delicious!! They are a new business, and there's some learning curves to be had for the staff, but truly everyone is kind and wonderful. Also, the ambiance is super cool...it's tucked away in the Stinson airport right on the runway, so often times you'll see planes taking off and landing. They have indoor and outdoor seating, and it looks like they are just getting their liquor license, so it's going to be a nice spot to sip a mimosa for brunch, or a cocktail at night with a casual dinner. The atmosphere is relaxed with a nice view of helicopters and small planes. The lunch prices are overpriced for quality of the food. The burger was 15 and the lemonade 4.50. The sticky bin was cold, dry and stale. The whole container of desserts is right by the register, exposed and not covered up. Amazing Food! I got the grilled Pepper Jack Sparrow Chicken Sandwhich and it was amazing! My wife got the Fried Whiskey Chick Chicken Sandwhich and it was cooked to perfection with an amazing BBQ sauce. The only downside to my fish was the humus. It lacked flavor but I'm used to my own so maybe I'm a little bias. They had this cool mint cucumber limeade that was a breath of fresh air, not to mention the on tap brews. I ordered a Belgium Blonde but the manager brought me a sample of their Coffee Stout, which was amazing. The service was great with an amazing staff who, were extremely friendly and tentative to our needs. This little getaway in the Stinson airport provided an ambiance that checked all the boxes. I was excited to try this place with my family and I don't know if it was just a bad day or what, but no one seemed to know what was going on... For $8 we got 5 fried pickles that had not been properly fried. The very thin batter just fell off. Cozy, relaxing ambiance. Love sitting by the window & watching the planes. Had chicken salad sandwich with fries & the turkey pesto sandwich with salad. For drinks had lemonade & nutty barnes coffee. Grilled chicken sandwich was raw, fries were soggy and room temp. It was $16. The idea was good, but the execution is poor. The Kitchen workers need more training. Another patron came to the counter with a chicken breast that was more raw than mine and half eaten. For how expensive it is the quality was unacceptable. Edited to add-I was there 7/24 between 11:30-12:30. Probes were not used or they are broken because the chicken was very very raw. The gentleman with the very raw eaten chicken talked to your kitchen staff, so I would have a conversation with them to rectify the issue and complete some remedial training. read more

Baked goods a plenty with creative cake offerings like Italian Cream, Ginger Peach, or Chocolate Strawberry. A newly opened bar area with live music on the weekends. A coffee shop for those in need of caffeine or some fresh squeezed lemonade or sparkling waters for cyclists stopping in from the river. Wow! We rode our bikes south from Stinson Field and on our return had lunch at Trailblazer. There were six of us and we each raved about our meals. Everything is scratch made including the bread for sandwiches. I had the beet salad which was topped with deliciously thin and crispy onion rings. It was fantastic! Others had a variety of sandwiches which all looked good. Options for sides included French fries, hummus wraps with veggies, cole slaw, or a side salad. We can't wait to go back! read more

We saw this featured on TV so tried it for lunch today. The hub and I got Whiskey Chick. Food was ok although too much bbq sauce. Our sides were fries and house salad. Raspberry Vinaigrette was good, but some of the lettuce was getting rusty looking. Hub got tea 3.50, and I got water(normal for me). We were charged .10 for a small plastic glass of ice water. A friend with us ordered same but fried instead of grilled. Also charged .10 for ice water. She requested no grilled onions., unfortunately they were not excluded. Our opinion is although they tout everything made from scratch, we have had much better. Perhaps breakfast or other selections were more superior than what we ordered. Staff was friendly.
