He went in being long overdue and came out looking so good! He got a bath, groom, and haircut, and couldn't be happier! The groomer asked questions to get to know him. We appreciated the care and kindness she showed towards our dog. We've booked his next appointment and look forward to this being our regular groomer! They decided to delete the review, cancel the nail trim appt without calling to let us know. They have lost me as a customer and I would think twice about doing business with them. Very disappointed with Trailblazers. They cancelled my dog's grooming appointment without notifying me, and I only found out when I showed up. When I called to rebook, they said they'd get back to me--then the next day, I was told they wouldn't groom my dog at all. Absolutely wonderful and kind staff. I brought my dog in for a nail trim and they made so easy, in and out. I told them he was nervous but for the first time his tail didn't go between his legs. The groomer took him back without me and I could still hear them being so kind and sweet reassuring my pup it was ok and he was a good boy. This will be the only place I take my dog for now on. This is my favorite pet store in town! The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. They treat our fur-babies as if they are their own. We have adopted two older Pomeranians in the last couple years with various skin conditions and health issues. They have always offered wonderful advice on different treatments to help with these conditions (such as food, shampoo, etc.). They have a a great selection and if they don't have what you're looking for then they are willing to help try to find it online, offer other alternatives, or offer suggestions of where to find what you need. We always take our dogs here for grooming. We absolutely love Jeanette! She (and the rest of the staff) always take the time to get to know our dogs. Our German Shepherd is extremely vocal and has high anxiety when my husband or I leave him, but they're always very patient with him and willing to work with him. This pet store goes the extra mile and prides themselves on taking care of their customers with advice and knowledge, a great selection of supplies, excellent customer service, and, most importantly, loving our pets! I found out about this place on the Nextdoor App. Lucky for me they were celebrating their 10th anniversary and everything in the store was 10-20% off and they had free goodie bags for your dog and free snacks (great appetizers and wine) for adults! This place is very small but uses every nook and corner and fills every space with great products. The staff is very knowledgeable and I bought items I had never heard of before such as Buba Chews Water Buffalo Horn, Lamb horn, deer antler, beef marrow bones and more. With the discount I saved almost $14.00. Oh and did I mention they do dog grooming too? I will definitely be returning. read more

Took my mom's poodle here for the first time yesterday! First off I must say how nice everyone is, as soon as I walked in I was greeted with a smile! For this being a new place for both me and Belle I felt comfortable as soon as I got there. Belle's hair was a mess but Katie was still able to do a great job with her. I was also impressed it took just under 3 hours. The one other place I've been to everyone drops off dogs at the same time so you never know if it will take 3 hrs or 6. I like how your appt time is just for you! I'm hoping once my mom gets back from vacation she will enjoy Belle's hair cut and continue to get her groomed here! Also hoping for more cute cuts! This is the best place to take your dogs for grooming, not only are they educated in nutrition and diet but the groomers are gentle and accommodating. I stopped going to the corporate stores as soon as I found trailblazers!!! They are so friendly so nice and really just want your pet to feel comfortable. Lori is amazing!! She has a special talent when it comes to working with animals. She was the first person to groom my toy poodle Sasha. I love how sweet she is with her. Unfortunately Lori moved away for a while and I ended up taking Sasha to several different groomers in town. I had some okay experiences and some terrible ones. Lori has a standard poodle for a pet and she hands down the best poodle goomer in Chico!!! She is an artist and my Sasha is at ease when she's there. I totally thought I had already written a review for Trailblazer, but I guess not... so here goes! Perhaps it is the fact that I'm greeted by the loving tail wag of the ever so gorgeous Izzy every time I walk through Trailblazer's doors, or maybe it is just the feeling of warm welcome energy that all of the people at Trailblazer exude, but I absolutely LOVE this place. The people at Trailblazer care about you and your pet and they know their stuff. I'm pretty knowledgeable about pet food and toys and different ways to solve problems with my pets behavior, but when I find myself stumped I go to Trailblazer for a little guidance. If they don't have something they go above and beyond all expectations to get whatever it is that I want... I ran all over town the week before Thanksgiving looking for a raw bone (beef femur) for my pups Thanksgiving day feast and no one seemed to have them, they didn't either but instead of giving me a half hearted "sorry" and sending me on my way they took my name and number and offered to find out if they could get some in for me. A few days later I actually got a call (love the follow through, many businesses will say they will call you back, but very few actually do) letting me know they had what I needed. =) I also love that they are actively involved in the community- this is a business that truly loves their clientele and works VERY hard to keep them happy and well informed. They do kitten adoptions on the weekend, obedience training, workshops on different pet related topics etc. etc. etc. Props to Trailblazer... You are an amazing, well run, and community minded business with great employees and awesome products. read more

I'm very disappointed in this place I've gone here for a while and for my dogs grooming my two shih tzus this last time I took them I took them in at 10am an appointment time, they told me that they I needed to pick them up no later than 1:30 they would be ready by 1:30 so I call it one cuz I live out of town to pick them up and they said oh no they're not going to be ready by 1:30 and I said well I have an appointment at 3 out of town so I can't go to Chico and then back to Willows in time to pick them up anytime after I have to pick him up at 4 and they said well you can pick him up now and they won't be done or you can be charged a kennel fee so they weren't done by 1:30 however they charged me the kennel fee they only did half the job they didn't cut hair on the dogs faces I would not recommend this place at all read more

Super friendly staff and great grooming services as well. They do nail clipping, etc and everyone is so nice and helpful. They have a wonderful variety of excellent, high-quality, and organic dog and cat food both wet and dry. They also have some toys, treats, including gourmet cookies for your animals and collars, leashes etc. The only downside is that they don't carry Greenies (dental treats) for dogs but they do for cats. The prices are very reasonable, much more so then Petco! I'm a fan! read more

This place is awesome! Everyone here is very knowledgeable and friendly, it's refreshing! I stopped in one day since I was at a neighboring store. I ended up finding some spray that was supposed to to stop dogs from chewing. This was perfect since my roommates beast had taken a liking to the coffee table. And the bar stools, and shoes, and power cords. The girl behind the counter said it was pretty effective since dogs usually stay away from it's citrus scent. So I took it home and tried it out. Turns out the dumb dog LOVED the taste of the spray. Of course. So I took it back to the store and the gentleman now working let me return it even though I had used some of it. He then gave me some recommendations on other things I could try out-lemon oil was the ultimate winner. I stopped in not long after to ask about some recommendations about dog food. My roommie's dog would get breakouts sometimes and we couldn't nail down the source in the foods she was eating. He told me a brand to try out and what ones to avoid (the main one she was eating of course). My roommate ended up getting said brand and his beast is one happy breakout-free pup. When my husband and I got our pup and we're trying to decide what type of food to feed her, the staff at the store were beyond helpful and explained some of the many factors to consider. They even offered us free samples, which helped us determine what food our dog liked the most. We also took our pup to the dog obedience classes that TrailBlazer and Butte Humane Society hosted last year and loved them. I am VERY glad to see that Trailblazer is continuing to offer these classes and is also offering the second level. We plan to sign our pup up for the next session of classes. Every time my husband and I enter the store, we are greeted by friendly staff and a friendly dog or two. Our dog is a little skittish when first meeting other dogs, so we like to bring her along for socialization. Not only the best pet store in Chico, but the best pet store I have ever been to. Our dog has severe food allergies, which has been a challenge to get under control. After going on a limited protein diet with our vet, we were faced with the challenge of integrating new proteins back into our dog's diet. The staff at Trailblazer are incredibly knowledgeable with really impressive nutrition distinctions and advice. They helped us so much, and I'm happy to say our dog is healthy, happy, and enjoying his balanced diet. I also really like the product selection offered. All the food choices are natural and I feel like most anything I'd buy there is a great choice. There's also a nice selection of toys, collars, and treats. The customer service is really top notch. After figuring out the right products for our dog, the staff has kept those items in stock and has placed special orders for me when needed, and followed up with me via a friendly phone call when those items were in. Mabel has been letting us clip her nails for a year. She all of the sudden decided she hated it and started kicking, etc. It was really stressful for her (and us) so we took her to Trail Blazer with our fingers crossed. The ladies there were really nice, gave her treats, and she was an angel. Having her up on the table worked like a charm. Both the women who were working when I came in were awesome. It was my puppy's first time going to the groomer and she was definitely not happy about it. She through a fit, but the groomers were super nice about it and I felt like they did everything they could to make my puppy comfortable. I also felt like they were reasonably priced. I got the salt scrub and conditioning and it wasn't that much extra, it was definitely worth it though. All and all, I had a great experience and I would definitely recommend them :) read more

Hannah deserves five stars for customer service and grooming. Hannah is not the problem. The last time I took my dog in for grooming (not counting today) I always look for new, safe, long-lasting treats for my 21 pound terrier. The fellow behind the counter recommended the $14 Icelandic sheep horn. I explained to him that my dog can devour a 9" bully stick in 45 minutes and I'm not interested in repeating that. He specifically told me that the horn I was considering took his 80 pound golden lab two weeks to finish off that horn. I totally believed him and bought one, brought it home, and gave it to my pup. Within five minutes he'd chewed off and swallowed three inches of that horn. I became very concerned and took it away. Today at my grooming appointment I brought in the barely chewed horn, and very long story short... I was told their policy is to not give refunds or credit for toys WTH? I was offered 20% off my next chew toy. So disgusting! I certainly didn't see, nor was I directed to this mysterious, unknown policy. This is a perfect Judge Judy civil court episode! BTW, I left the horn at the business. Wanna bet they try selling it again? Worst customer service, ever!! read more

We've tried everything to trim our dog's nails. He's extremely fussy and scared to death of the dreaded clipper or dremel. We took him to our vet and the tech there thought next time our dog needed to be sedated to trim his nails. We then heard trailblazer was good at trimming nails so decided to try them out. Wish we caught their names, but the two women who trimmed his nails did an amazing job!!! They didn't seem deterred by our dog's fussiness. They were very experienced and professional (and said our dog didn't need any sedation!). Definitely coming back here. If your dog is a drama queen like ours, try them out!
