This pains me because I love this store. So I'll start by saying how much I love the store. I've worked in vet hospitals in Chico for many years and have always told clients to go here for their pets needs, especially dietary because they are so knowledgable. Unfortunately I had a rough experience with the grooming department today. I left a message because I'm trying to find a new groomer for my cat (mine moved away). I simply asked if they could let me know whether or not they groom cats. I got a call back and I won't say her name to be nice. She seemed to be chuckling under her breath as she asked, "Did you call about cat grooming?" I said yes. She responded with obvious laughter this time, "we don't even touch cats". I was immediately offended. I understand cats can be difficult, but no need to be so callous with my feelings. My cat means everything to me, same as my dog. A simple "no we don't groom cats" would have been great. She recommended PetSmart. I want to support locally,and it's too bad she couldn't recommend someone local as I know there are local groomers willing to succumb to cat grooming. So I just thanked her and hung up. I have worked in customer service all my life, mostly in animal care. I would never talk to a client in that manner about their pet. Whether it's a cat, dog, turantula or snake. Please take this as constructive criticism. I know she didn't mean to hurt my feelings, but she should be aware of these things. I will still come in to the retail department. read more

I was referred to Trail Blazers as a new puppy owner. I brought Dolores with me and not only were they so kind to her but they were so knowledgeable! I left with the treats I intended to buy, an interactive toy to keep her busy, and some pet food samples. They staff was kind, knowledgeable and not at all pushy. The prices were great too! We have a dog that can be a little "high maintenance"... not only is he a big boy but he's had some awful grooming experiences. We've been taking him to Allison for a couple years now & when she moved, we moved, too... we were all a little nervous just because you just don't know sometimes with my dog how he's going to react.... I can't say enough how extraordinarily happy we are with her new spot at Trailblazer & the experience we have had. As soon as we walked in the energy in the place is just wonderful. Had my first grooming experience with Lori at TrailBlazer's today and it was OUTSTANDING!  I have a White Mini Schnauzer and Lori made me feel comfortable and at ease immediately.  She took a lot of time talking with me about what I wanted before she got started and was super knowledgeable!  She is extremely thoughtful, gentle, and kind with the animals.  I also love that TrailBlazer's is a holistic/natural pet store!  It was a great experience and I will definitely be going back! read more

They don't carry a lot of different products. I used to love the service, but their service is not very good any more. They over charge for their stuff. Also I took my dog to get her nails cut (which I do every month). I used to live in Marysville, so this was her first time getting it done in Chico. The lady made her yelp the whole time. She ended up cutting one so bad my dog bleed for half a day even after the lady packed it. I now have blood all over my car. I had to keep her in her kennel the rest of the day, so my house was not all bloody. I felt horrible. I will never take my dog back. read more

We love this place and get all our supplies here. They have great shampoo, food, treats, and toys. The staff is very helpful and friendly. We also get our puppy's nails trimmed here and they do a great job. They have a lot more specialty and natural products than large chain retail stores at fair prices. read more

I take my basset hound to Trail Blazers mainly to have his nails trimmed. Today the groomer got down on the floor and did an awesome job. My dog never cried, howled or even whimpered. My Boston Terrier puppy was having diarrhea issues. No matter what I tried it wasn't getting better. I even took him to the vet. When I went into the store I explained his issues and what I had tried so far. The sales person was very knowledgeable. She recommended nutri source for all stages as the puppy food is too rich for his digestive system. She also recommended the pumpkin for the diarrhea. I also picked up a harness. In one day the nutri source cured his diarrhea. They have definitely won my business. read more

I took my Aussie in for the first time, I just wanted to treat him to a good bath and grooming. I got him back with a super soft coat and the groomer did everything I asked! His mats were gone and she trimmed him up perfectly. Everyone was very nice and they were able to get us in super fast with short notice. read more

Great shop with lots of fresh natural dog treats. I don't have a cat so I didn't notice to much stuff for cats but I did see some toys while I was looking. We popped in for the drop in nail trim and she did one of the best trims Auggie has gotten in a long time. And only $12. We will probably schedule a bath soon. read more

I take my pup here for grooming and I like that they are consistently good. Sarah almost always answers the phone when I call and she is always courteous and helpful. My puppy is terrified of having his nails trimmed. I took him in to see if we could get it done. The girl sat on the floor with me and my puppy and dremmeled his nails successfully. Tried to support local business by taking our border collie to trailblazers for a grooming. The first issue we ran into was that we received a call less then 2 hours from the drop off date to pick her up. I knew from past experience at PetSmart and other local shops 2-3 hours was the normal. We asked if they could hold her for 30 extra minutes after calling due to being at work at the time and expecting the appointment to take longer. They told us no that we needed to get her. Ok seems strange 30 minutes was not doable but not a big deal I can handle that. When we dropped her off we were told 65-75$ depending on the level of attention necessary. When arriving to pick her up, the first comment my father made was that they did not cut her. They had trimmed her legs, ears and tail. They took nothing off her back at all. They asked for 75$ ( the highest end of the price range) after clearly rushing through it and taking shortly over an hour to do a 45 lb dog with long hair. Never the less we Agreed to pay the price (and just not return) but of course now their machine is down. They tell me they will call for payment later. When they do call, they call 4 times during a work day within a 4 hour span. When I call back at the end of the day, they have now decided to charge us 82$ an additional fee for "difficult handling" was decided to be added on after the fact. We laughed and told them we were not paying that. Our dog is very well behaved and has been to 5 different groomers here and the Bay Area. We were told the groomer would call us back and explain why an extra fee was necessary. They proceeded to tell us it was because our border collie did not like shaving her rear end. What dog would?! But to not touch the hair on her back at all and only take slightly over an hour does not justify a 75$ cost much less an 82$ one. They finally agreed to take the 75$ instead and we will not be returning. It's a shame and disgrace when local business acts this way. read more

This is in reference to the grooming facility at Trail Blazer. Before Christmas my daughter had a terrible time with the employees. Her dog came home ungroomed! We took her back to Lori, who then groomed Foxy appropriately and trimmed her nails as should have been done in the first place. The excuse, "the worker got busy and forgot about Foxy." A few days ago, I called, left a voicemail for Lori stating that I ONLY wanted Lori to groom Foxy due to the last situation. Lori and I played phone tag for a good part of the morning. I then called again, to be told by someone, that Lori booked Foxy for a Saturday. Today, Lori called to confirm. She said the appointment was with Katie! Who is Katie??????? I told Lori, that my voicemail specifically stated we wanted ONLY her to groom Foxy because of the terrible treatment and lack of grooming from the last time. Lori said that she did not get the voicemail, that her worker took down the name and phone number and that was it!!!!!!!!!!!!! What poor customer service! read more

TrailBlazer is fantastic! Scarlett, my labradoodle, and I love going there! The employees, both human and canine, are very friendly and helpful. They have a huge selection of high quality foods and treats, chews, toys, and accessories. The grooming salon is the BEST! Lori does an amazing job grooming Scarlett! We started going there when Scarlett was a puppy. Lori took her time with Scarlett, making sure that she was comfortable with all the new noises and equipment. Lori is very knowledgeable and is a great teacher. She taught me a ton about how to care for Scarlett between grooming, things to watch for and expect, and tips to make her feel comfortable with being handled. Now, Scarlett is a pro! Another thing I love is that Lori doesn't keep Scarlett there all day. Some groomers tell you to pick your dog back up 5+ hours later. Not Lori. I drop her off at the appointment time and pick her up when she's done. Scarlett means the world to me, so it is very important to me that she is in good hands. I 100% trust Lori to give Scarlett the best care! By far, Lori at TrailBlazer is the best groomer around! read more

Nice employees. The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. If the staff is in a conversation meaning the owner you can expect to stand there and wait like you are invisible. She thinks she is doing you a special favor just by letting you buy food there. One of the businesses in Chico that doesn't seem to realize that most anything can be bought on the internet. Typical the local businesses want customer support but it's a one way street and all about them... Pretty much LAME. Neither this place or Northern Star Mills seem to be able to handle simply keeping their merchandise stocked or marked with prices. read more

I booked an appointment for my yorkie/poodle mix with these guys at the last minute as I came in from out of town. They were very nice on the phone and the store was very clean. The people that work there were also very nice. The problem that I had was with the grooming itself. I paid $25 for a bath and a haircut around the face only , as my dog did not need a complete cut. I also left a $5 tip but that was before I saw what she had done. My dog has very long eyelashes which most groomers like to leave. She had taken a scissors and cut around the eyes. She cut all of his eyelashes off, but didn't touch anything around his mouth which is where it always gets so dirty from food and water etc. Really the only thing I could see that she did was the eyes. The ears, top of the head etc had nothing done. It didn't really look like his head had been even washed. I think I must have gotten a groomer that was either new or in training because I know I could have done just as well myself. Actually I have! Needless to say, I was very disappointed. Also when I arrived to pick him up there was no one there and I had to get the cashier to let him out. He was barking away in the back as one groomer was cutting in another room but no one came to let him out after I paid. I had to go and ask someone to retrieve him. Anyway for the price I think that your better bet in Chico is Petsmart. read more

I spent a good amount of money on dog food and toys for my puppy. After playing with a toy for less than 10min it broke. I brought it back the next day and the salesperson was rude would not replace it. When asking for the managers help I received the same reply. They will not stand behind their products and do not care if their customers are unhappy. "They will never return a product unless they can resell it" is what I was told. Really!?!? read more
