Dec. 23 of 17. Last night I enjoyed my drinks along with conversation with friends and the Bartenders. As usual the atmosphere was great up until about an hour prior to the start of the music. It seems the Drummer boy was "on something", as he just stared at his drums and would constantly strike it every 4 to 6 seconds. I did see people shake their heads and leave. As far as the band, I'm sure if this was still the 70's I would be smoking a joint and plugging my ears so not to injure the ear drums! I did hear a few people ask if they could get their cover charge back. You will find some of the best Blue's west of the Mississippi in this place as all of the local talent such as Sonny Hess and friends, Curtis, all of them have played and still play here most every night! The lunch specials are fantastic and cheap! The regular menu is good and the beer and drinks are good too! Best musical line up around- awesome talent Rocks the place on a regular basis....great food and service! Fun atmosphere, Not a huge place - decorated with old pioneer memorabilia and some Other funky stuff, the dance floor is kind of small but people aren't shy about cramming in there, the acoustics a really good, must be because it is a smaller space- Cozy and friendly with great management and staff. read more

Tonight was my first time to visit the Trails End Saloon. In fact, it was the first time I'd ever heard of it, period. A friend invited me down for a belated birthday beer and to hear a Gospel Blues band play. When she said they were "good", she meant "Great!" I didn't catch the name of the band, but the woman singing had a voice like Aretha. Soo awesome! While I really enjoyed her bluesy version of the gospel songs they sang, my favorite was Etta Jame's "Somethings got a hold of me". That raised the roof and packed the dance floor. As for the food; holy cow! I ordered a $6.50 "small" crispy chicken salad and what I got was a full sized plate of iceberg lettuce - piled high with cheese, chicken strips, 2 boiled eggs and a handful of bacon bits (I asked them to hold the olives - because olives gross me out). The ingredients were fresh and I had way more than enough to take to lunch tomorrow. I love bar food. While it may not be chi-chi, it's grubbing good and you always get huge portions! The service was also very good. A little slow, because the place was packed; so I ordered from the bartender, which was not a problem. The building looks to be one of the oldest in the city. I'm not saying it is, it just looks to be. The ceiling fans are literally spinning with a belt motor. The bar is on the corner or 14th and Main and is much larger inside than it's outward appearance. Looks are always deceiving. The walls are full of chotchkies - which look old enough to have once belonged to Lewis & Clark themselves. The bar has a stage, which local favorites play on weekly. From the packed atmosphere, it's a local hot spot. They also have a few plasma screens, for sports fans. While it was a bit of a trek for me to drive to, I really enjoyed myself and feel the distance was well worth it. read more

I've lived in Happy Rock for 3 1/2 years now and haven't been to this place before last night for a Meetup get together. Chaotic Soul were playing there, and they were awesome, but the Saloon was a great venue, and I even danced a little bit. The beers were good prices, and the place seemed clean and nice, and a good local spot to hang out at on the weekend evenings if I'm looking for something to do. read more

First visit was a success. I went for a live performance and had a good time. The grilled chicken quesadilla for $7.50 was surprisingly tasty, a good value too. The place was packed for most of the show. People were dancing and everyone seemed to be enjoying the show. The service was fine and the staff worked hard while staying friendly. I would go for another show, but otherwise it's not really any place special to me. read more

Love this place. I discovered it when I moved here in March when I was researching good places to go for blues music. They can be counted on to always have a good variety of musicians especially on the weekend. I have always found it friendly and the food isn;t too bad either. great burger. and a nice size dance floor. Went the for a friend's birthday and the music was great. I loved the blues group that was there. The food was very low rent bar food. The hamburger was a frozen piece of meat but the toppings were good. The Onion rings looked to hopeful but the batter was put on so thick that it was hard to eat. The Monte Cristo sandwich was not done in the correct fashion. There was no sauce, the bread was grilled, which was ok, but it should have been deep fried. The sandwich was done in two layers, not three like traditional Monte Cristos, there was no jam served with it. and the fries we frozen, with the good looking onion rings I was hoping for fresh cut fries. Go for the music, try the food but just be aware it is low rent food. read more

This place is what Oregon city has been desperately in need of. Every Oregon city gem has steadily declined in service and atmosphere as prices climb higher. New owners of trails end have cleaned the place up with great prices and amazing food. No $11 dollar sandwiches or salads here. Atmosphere is classic Americana style with antique ceiling fans interconnected and driven by leather straps. Can't beat a place that keeps the Man in Black and Willie playing in the background all day long. Skip the pool hall, the high school burnout lounges, the overpriced trendy spot, and the blackout biker bar and come here. read more

Definitely an average working class bar, but everyone is sooo friendly. The waitresses are lovely and good at checking in, even though it is very busy on a Saturday night. There is a semi-covered smoking area (large umbrella). I ended up speaking with the owner multiple times and he seemed like a very nice gentleman. The live music (Jambo and the Senate, a cover band with a huge repertoire) was fun and brought in a lot of patrons. As the night wore on, our server made sure that I wouldn't be driving, and I really appreciated that they care about their patrons. I did not have any food, so I can't speak to that. read more

Great place with good energy! I used to live in Nashville, and the Trail's End Saloon reminds me of the historic honky tonks on Broadway Street (in Nash). We saw an amazing band perform (Honky Tonk Union), which added to the ambiance. Drinks: great Service: quick and friendly Food: haven't tried - yet. I look forward to trying out their new menu! My husband comes here for the open mic on Sunday .... but I'm about to talk about the food. Good lord that macaroni and cheese is the bomb. It's the first thing on the menu and you need loom no further than that to eat. I'll dream of it later The waitress (the owners daughter) is wonderful. Super nice, friendly, quick, and knowledgeable. What a jewel she is.... even if she wasn't related her dad still should have hired her. read more

I recently asked a question about whether it is rude to reach over someone sitting at a bar eating dinner. When you sit at the bar rather than a table, it seems okay for people to put their empty drinks next to your food or stand over you and order drinks. They would never do this at a table. You pay the same price for your food. This happens at every bar restaurant, not just the Trails End Saloon. I guess this it is assumed when you sit at the bar that this is going to happen. I don't think it is right. At any rate, I enjoy the Trails End Saloon and the service is good, the food is good, and the music is good! Bruce F read more

Had the Reuben sandwich here on my first and probably last visit. I couldn't tell if the packaged lunch type meat on the sandwich was pastrami or corned beef but it had little flavor and not a quality of meat I would expect to get on a Reuben served at any restaurant. Also the sauer kraut on the sandwich tasted like it came out of a can. French fries were greasy also. read more

I have been coming here for years and they used to have the best blues jams in the NW. Lots of amateur musicians, a very encouraging house band and lots of folks dancing. The past few months have been very disappointing because it is the same musicians playing the same songs over and over. Ken Brewer and Rae Gordon are amazing and I could listen to them all night. Then, Gaddis Covena and "Westside" Jonny join the band, play too loud and never get off the stage. C'mon Rae and Ken, it's a "JAM", not the Jonny and Gaddis show. Let more amateur musicians take their turn, vary the songs and musicians more and make it fun again!!! read more

The waitresses are seasoned and know how to gauge if you want another drink. The service was definitely friendly. We sat near the back because the band we had come to hear has 9 members and is LOUD. The place filled up and there was joyous dancing, which is very nice. We ordered beer (great), whiskey (exactly what I wanted) and pulled-pork Nachos. Chips were crisp, portion plentiful. And flavors were balanced. BUT WHO THE HELL PUTS FRESH GREEN BELL PEPPER ON NACHOS? YUCK. read more

Breakfast!!! The food was great. Delicious housemade sausage gravy & biscuits. Pancakes were tasty. Omelet was great. Coffee was hot! And Keeley was so nice and personable. AND it was affordable! I think this is our new favorite weekend breakfast spot. YUM read more

We were hungry and thirsty, and the Trail Saloon was the perfect place to meet our needs! They smoke their own meats, and the pulled pork nachos were awesome! The fish and chips were fresh and crispy- among the best I've ever had. The Trail's End Saloon definitely deserves its iconic status as one of the top blues rooms in the Northwest! Friendly staff, stiff drinks, good pub food and great prices would be enough by themselves to recommend this bar. But, the best blues artists in the NW play here weekly! On any given weekend you'll find acts like Curtis Salgado, Duffy Bishop, Lisa Mann, Ellen Whyte, Kevin Selfe, etc. I love the neighborhood feel of the place and the down-scale decor (especially the ceiling fan pulley system! ;-). The nachos are my go to bang-for-the-buck plate, but the burgers are delicious too! Four starts because there's nothing on the menu that you wouldn't expect, but this place is great, and if you're a blues fan it's exceptional! read more

Fantastic food! Can't wait to go back. First time there and it won't be our last. The Pulled pork nachos were such an amazing twist on an old favorite. They were big enough to be a meal for two, instead of just a starter. Now I really want to try the pulled pork sandwhich. The Tri-tip sandwhich was excellent as was the fish and chips.
