omg the SWEETEST ever!! From the receptionist to the stylist, I feel so welcomed and everybody was genuinely warm. The place is so beautiful and conveniently* located. I'd called just to get an emergency bonding treatment and then had to change my appointment time/date, which ended up with me seeing another stylist. The day I called/day before the new appointment, that receptionist called me a couple times in the evening to make sure I was okay with just the service, no blow dry or anything-- she wanted to make sure wouldn't be disappointed or feel rushed (insert your "aww" here). She was SO sweet and cute. I reassured her that all I was looking for was the service to help save my hair and that in fact did NOT want heat application, especially during hot and humid summertime! I originally was going to see Erica. I did stop in to have her look at my hair first- she was patient and so reassuring! When I changed my appointment I got Carlina, who was also great! She understood my concern, gave me great advice on hair care, and was generous with the service/ her time, etc. I really am so glad I found this salon and was able to get a service here. I look forward to hopefully seeing them again in the future. *convenient location: they're right in downtown Towson but not right in crazy York. Ample street metered and nearby lot parking, including at the Cinemark car park. If I got more things done, this probably would be a 5-star review. On 10/25, visited the business for a balayage. Was quoted $180 over the phone. Once the service was complete, I'm ready to pay $180 at the counter. Instead, was told that the charge is $230 because the receptionist didn't include the other services that were done. Why was that my fault? I stated that "no additional charges" were mentioned. Been to numerous salons, the price I paid is the price that was quoted. Now the woman at the counter, the hairstylist and the owner are involved in this dispute. A good business with any understanding of customer service would have said "Ok, we'll allow $180 but next time, please understand the service is $230." That's what a quality business with integrity would do. Instead, the owner's attitude was obnoxious, offensive, and repulsive - thinking that she was doing me a favor by charging me $211 (in addition to the $30 tip to the hairstylist) instead of the quoted price of $180. Avoid this place. Take your hard earn money elsewhere. There are so many other businesses that provide the same services with better customer service - and without the "mean girl" attitude. read more

I purchased a groupon for a haircut and full highlight. I called a day after purchasing the groupon and the lady that answered was very pleasant. I told her I wanted to make an appt and that I had the groupon. She told me it would be an appt with Kelsey. I literally got an appt the next day! She advised me of parking and cash only tips. That was really important to me because it let me plan ahead. So to the day of... I arrived an hour early for my appt. it was nice inside, clean, and friendly. I even was offered a coffee while I waited an entire 10 mins for Kelsey to begin my hair early. She suggested a "base bump". I had never heard of this or had it done but said go ahead just to try it. Kelsey was very nice, easy to talk to, inviting, and knew what she was doing. I can honestly say, this was the first time I can remember ever getting a "full head of highlights". Often people advertise it but do not go all the way down. The base bump took away all my dark roots. The cut was also wonderful and she blow dried it so I could see everything. Overall, my experience was great and I can not wait to finish school/or my birthday so I can afford to go there again. The price isn't bad, but I'm a nursing student. When I go again, I will request and prefer Kelsey. I suggest others to go to her as well. Especially if your a blonde! She has pretty much always been a blonde so she knows her stuff! Don't get the Groupon. I went to one stylist with mine and my friend went to another stylist with her Groupon and we were both very disappointed when we left. Perhaps there's other stylists there that are really talented, but the ones that are offering the Groupon cut/highlights are giving a bad name to the rest. I felt like I was in the perfect spot for the next episode of Tabatha's Salon Takeover. The professionalism and passion for continued education/styling great hair seemed to really be lacking from both my stylist and my friend's stylist, which was really disappointing given the high rates they regularly charge - I thought I was going to be blown away with the service and make this my new go-to salon. WARNING: EXTRA UNANNOUNCED CHARGES FOR HAIR COLOR CLIENTS AND GROUPON CUSTOMERS. I visited this salon in February using a Groupon for "a haircut with all-over color ($101 value)". The parking was slightly more of a hassle than the places I usually visit in the Timonium and Cockeysville area, but it wasn't a huge issue. The salon itself was fine. My haircut was OK; I'm not picky, and my above-shoulder-length hair is hard to mess up. I definitely like this cut less than my previous cuts at other places, but it's not horrible. The color looks fine; no complaints there. The problem came on checkout. I was charged an additional $20 for "extra color". My stylist never mentioned this as she worked on my hair. Now, I have been getting similar cut/color services - same hair length, similar intervals between coloring - for 15 years now. No one at any salon has EVER charged me for "extra color". I paid the charge thinking that I had missed a warning about it in the fine print on my Groupon. But when I got home and checked, there was no warning about this, nor any indication that extra charges would apply. So I sent a polite inquiry to Tranquille via their website. That was over a month ago; still no reply. Then I emailed Groupon. Their email responses were prompt, polite, and apologetic, but ineffective. They eventually gave me $20 in "Groupon Bucks", but using those would require me to trust Groupon again, which I don't. Groupon also continues to have the exact same Tranquille offer posted on their website, with no warning about the high risk of "extra color" charges. In fairness, Tranquille's website itself does warn, in general terms, that their posted prices are "starting prices". So, if you go to Tranquille or buy their Groupon, prepare to pay whatever amount they decide to charge you, at checkout, for extra color, extra time, or whatever other extras your stylist silently adds while working on you. And if you contact them about a problem or concern, don't expect a reply. read more

Terrible manicure. 2 stars for a pretty salon, but that's about it. I honestly Don't know where to begin. My first visit to tranquille. I found out about this salon through groupon after seeing and purchasing an advertisement for a gel/shellac manicure. I felt rushed from the time my manicure began to the time it ended. Not many colors to choose from . Several opi gel polishes all fairly neutral in color with the exception of 2-3 options( of which I chose one) and a shelf of shellacs. My nails weren't even able to soak in the water. Literally rested in the suds for 60 secs of that during the entire manicure. I was knocked several times with a good amount of bloodshed. Tools did not come from sterile packaging nor was there visible barbicide or another cleaning agent visible. Gel manicure lasted all of 17 mins. This included polish curing time and a useless "hand rub " at the end. Needless to say , not worth the groupon and I will not be returning. read more

I found this salon when I was looking for a spray tan for a wedding I was in. I met with Allison, the esthetician and she was great! We had a wonderful conversation throughout the whole session and she made me feel very comfortable. The tan was even and lasted for days : ) When I needed a haircut, I went back to the salon and they recommended Aubrey to me, (I have very thick, curly hair). She was excellent. I have been back once since then and have pre-booked my next two appointments. The color Aubrey gave me was subtle and fresh and she always spends the extra time to go back and dry-cut my hair after blowdrying. $37 for a gel manicure!!!! ridiculous! there were very limited nail polish color choices and the quality of the actual gel manicure is ho-hum and looks average, not uniform and stunning like it should for that much money. I've done gel manicures myself at home and they look like this; a step above amateur, but definitely not professional. I've received much better ones at any mall or strip mall nail place, where the manicures are immaculate. the only reason why I even found out that the crappy manicures cost $37 to begin with is that I had a groupon for a manicure that I was gifted, and when I got there, they refused to accept it because I had been there before. so I had to pay cash. which is insane because I never would have gotten a manicure there he it not been for the groupon. and their parking is awkward! read more

I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this place!!!! I've gotten a full facial, eyebrow waxing, makeup lesson, and pedicure here; all which left me fully satisfied and feeling pampered. My first treatment was the facial, Abby was my specialist and she was so nice and kept up great conversation while still being informative and professional. She catered to my skin type and taught me how to get the most out of my skin, not to mention how relaxed I felt. Next was my eyebrow waxing which came right after my facial. Looking back, this probably was a bad idea being that it was my first waxing and my skin was quite raw from the facial. Otherwise, everything was sterile and pain was quick and easy. Just a user error on my part!! I came back a few weeks later for my makeup lesson. Kristen is truly talented!! She made me feel absolutely beautiful the entire time. I learned SO much in such a short amount of time and I left her makeup chair feeling and looking beautiful. Her charisma and talent are both amazing!!! She used a specific brand of makeup but did not shove any products at me, just suggesting shades and techniques. She also listened to what I had to say and made my look be exactly what I was going for. Finally, my pedicure. It had been a long day at the spa by this point (had to wait through my sister's makeup lesson plus another hour for our appointment), and I was tired and ready to leave so I wasn't feeling too chatty. Natalie was very kind and did a great job with my toes!! it was exactly what I needed to soothe my nerves, not to mention clean my toes up. This review is for Annette. I purchased a groupon for the cut and single process color. I don't have a stylist in maryland yet and so i've been jumping around, somewhat unsucessfully. I made an apointment and was not disappointed! Annette was so sweet, even when I was almost a half hour late because of the awful post-work/pending snowstorm traffic. She got right to work on my hair, and helped me find the perfect color... one of that on another stylist! She listned to what I wanted for a cut, but also made recommendations for layers. I was THRILLED with the cut, and she really did a beautiful job. The color was great as well and she was gentle, very attentive to me, and thorough. My only issue was that the color was an additional $35 because of my medium length hair. So the groupon wasn't really so much of a deal since it was $85 + tip when all was said and done. I purchased a Groupon for single process hair color and haircut for $48.00. Upon arrival I was advised of an extra fee of $20.00 for color. Although the salon staff insisted the voucher mentioned something about additional tubes of color at the discretion of the stylist for an extra fee, this was not the case. The hair length was the only thing mentioned on the voucher, indicating shoulder length hair or shorter, otherwise there would be an added fee. It is no wonder they were not busy on a Saturday considering such "bait and switch" practices. Out of principle, I left the salon refusing to pay the extra fee for color. I purchased a Groupon that I had found online with my roommate. We both got them and scheduled our appointments for the next day. After making the appointments, they called us and changed our appointment times twice. Hours later, I got an email saying they had changed my time AGAIN because she had written it down wrong. At first I thought okay maybe they are just having some scheduling issues and I didn't think much of it. Once I got there I realized that my roommate and I had the same hair dresser, Kelsey, and our appointments were a half hour apart. I was at 330 and needed partial highlights and my roommate was at 4 and was getting a dye and a drastically new cut. This time frame gave me a very bad feeling. I knew that sometimes my hair has taken up to two hours if the stylist puts care and attention into it. Kelsey rushed through the entire process because she was clearly over scheduled. I felt completely neglected and ignored. She left my highlights in for WAY too long and now my once beautiful and soft blonde hair is basically a stringy, elastic, over-bleached mess. The color isn't even blended correctly and is dull and honestly not flattering. When she took the highlights out of the foil she was clearly concerned and when I asked her "is it bad? Is there damage?" she simply answered "no sweetie, you're just blonde!" I would much rather my stylist be up front and honest with me rather than lie to me and ignore her mess-ups. I now have to spend more money on my own to purchase products that will fix my hair. When my highlights were sitting, the young shampoo girls were talking and saying horrible things about other hairdressers that worked there or used to work there. I thought it was just young girls gossiping but then one of the older stylists walked over chanting "Ding dong the witch is dead!!" about an employee. I was shocked by this unprofessional nature. If you have things like that to say, say it in the back where your customers can't hear you. The cut is another thing. I wanted just a trim with more angling in the back so that it was easier to style. I did not get what I wanted. This is the sloppiest cut that I have ever received and has all different length pieces that she missed throughout my hair. Isn't a 1-inch trim hair basics?!? I could have easily done a better job. Then, when she blow dried my hair, it felt like she was tearing it out of my head. My newly-damaged, terribly cut hair was being tugged at and I could see pieces of my hair flying as she pulled at it so carelessly. I left the salon with my bangs sticking out straight and feeling terrible. She was rushing because the salon had scheduled her 3 appointments within 2 hours... These weren't just trims, these were appointments with customers that were looking for a good experience with their hair and that is not what they received. I will never go back to this salon and I am honestly appalled by their lack of customer service, attention, scheduling, care, honesty, and simple basic hair skills. DO NOT GO TO THIS SALON. Even if you have a groupon, it's just not worth it. I am not the type to ever give a bad review, I have worked in customer service and I understand that people mess up, but the countless mistakes and demeanor of the employees made me write this review and create this Yelp account. read more

First, let me start off by saying I love a place that can get you an appointment that same week. It's a bonus when you can book your appointment online! I did both & got me an appointment with Nicky. I walked in for the first time & the place has a very nice feel to it. The parking across the street was uber convenient. The decor in the salon was modern & tasteful. At 12:30 exact, Nicky greeted me & we talked about what I wanted. I love that he was so punctual. When I showed him a picture of what I wanted, he gave me a look like "girl, I can hook you up! So, i came into tranquil the other day because i was early for work, i needed a hair cut and i had a lot of time to kill, so i figured, why not? Upon entering i was very impressed has a similar aura of upscale salons, the decor was nice, it was very cool inside which made me soooo happy because it was like 95 degrees outside. I do not remember my hair stylists name but he was a very friendly guy. Spoke with me throughout my haircut just enough to keep me from being bored but not sooooo much i wanted to tell him to shut up! He was very good with a blade and some scissors. I generally have problems getting my hair cut because my hair is extra thick and curly so when its cut short i always get these little fly aways that stick out and no amount of product can tame them. However he tackled them with confidence and had them smoothed down and trimmed in no time at all. he washed and styled my hair and sent me to work. I would definitely return to him and have him cut my hair again, i feel confident in his ability to make me look good. Great job! read more

I have nothing but good things to say about my first experience at Tranquille! I went in for highlights, lowlights and a cut. From start to finish, I really feel like the staff at Tranquille went above and beyond to provide a great experience. I received a text to confirm my appointment (which I absolutely loved, because who has time to return phone calls with everything else going on these days?). I was worried about parking since it's in the heart of Towson, but the parking garage is right across the street, and they give you a validation to help with the cost. I have long crazy, frizzy, dry, over-colored hair and asked for an opinion on what colors of low and highlights to put in, and am SO happy with the 4 colors that were chosen! The dark matches my roots exactly, and the lightest color is a tone I never though I would achieve again since I've over-bleached (mostly self-inflicted) for the past 10 years of my life. The shampoo girl massaged my head for a full 5 minutes, AND my neck wasn't uncomfortable in the shampoo chair (can you believe that?!) My cut is great, and I'm so happy with the end result. The coolest thing about my experience was the interaction between the guests and the staff. It wasn't a stuffy, silent, uncomfortable type of "what am I going to say to this stylist while I sit here with her for the next 2.5 hours of my life" experience. Everyone was talking, laughing, feeding off the open comments between guests, loving the adorable 2-year old girl parading up and down the aisle in her new dress and eager to come back. The salon owner was there, and after seeing what a down to earth, hard-working lady she is, I'm eager to give my business to her! (Believe me, there are some really hateful salon owners in this area out there) The prices are fair, and if you take advantage of the referral program or use the coupons in the cute first-time bag you receive, you will never have to pay full price. Went to Tranquille yesterday and had a great experience! It is clean, the people are friendly, and they clean the areas in between each phase of the process! I had 2 stages to my color job, thank you quarantine, and Kathryn applied the various glazes and highlights with both of us masked ! She moved me around to the stations using social distance, and made sure I was safe and comfortable. By the way, total transformation occurred there as well for me!! Buyer beware if you want to use a Groupon at this Salon. This morning I was very excited to call and schedule my appointment at this Salon. I had done my homework an the reviews online are FANTASTIC. I am not doubting how great the services are here, that's why I painstakingly took my time to do my research. As most women know, choosing a new Hair Salon can be scary. I have VERY thick hair, and have also just FINALLY grown it back from chemotherapy and radiation treatments. I have been out of work, due to my illness, so money is very tight right now, hence why I was delighted to find a GROUPON for a cut, color, and highlights for $76. I placed the call to make an appointment to book my appointment. A very pleasant sounding woman was more then happy to schedule me an appointment, in fact with HER, the next morning at 9:00 am. I then proceeded to inform her that I would I had purchased the GROUPON. At that moment her entire demeanour changed. It was as if I had told her I had the EBOLA virus. " I have no APPTS for GROUPON customers open tomorrow" she says. Understandably irritated, I asked her what happened to the opening she offered me previously, she, in so many words, informed me that her appointment was for full priced customers only, and that the wait for an opening could be as long as two months. When I expressed my displeasure she proceeded to hang the phone up on me. I admit I should have read the fine print stating that the GROUPON is only available with certain stylists, but admittedly I did not. I called GROUPON to explain my situation. The customer service representative couldn't have been ANY nicer; she then contacted another salon in the area, and they agreed to offer me the same services, UNCONDITIONALLY, for the same price. I scheduled an appointment with them for tomorrow,and will write them a GLOWING recommendation. In closing, I want to say to the owner/ manager of this Salon, you made me feel like a piece of chewing gum on the bottom of your shoe. GROUPON 's are a great marketing tool, a way to grow your business. ALL customers should be treated equally and valued. Apparently your business is so successful, you don't need to grow yours. In this day and age of social media, and in this HIGHLY competitive area of Towson, Lutherville, Timonium, you REALLY need to be mindful of how you treat people. I'm sure based on the reviews, my hair( which has taken me over a year to grow back) would have been gorgeous. Unfortunately I was pretty disappointed by my experience here. The staff was nice, but really didn't seem to care at all about the level of service they provided. My main complaint is that I went here to get a cut and color, and after the coloring, I STILL HAD GRAYS! I guess the color wasn't left on long enough or something... but it made the coloring completely worthless. Another thing - usually when I get my hair colored all over, I talk to the stylist and the stylist tries to determine what would work best for me. Then we look at colors in a color book and make a decision. There was none of that here. I described what I thought I wanted, and the stylist told me she would be right back. I thought she had gone to get a color book, but she had mixed up color! The color was not brushed on my hair, as is standard to prevent scalp irritation, but rather was poured from a bottle all over my scalp... just like the stuff you get at the drug store. A day after getting my hair done here, I had grays, and my scalp was extremely irritated (which has NEVER happened before). It was flaking off in big chunks - in flakes the size of half a penny. I looked completely disgusting and I had gotten my hair done because my boyfriend was coming into town.... needless to say, the hair care didn't have the intended effect... he picked flakes out of my hair all weekend. This place gets 1 stars only because everyone else who worked there seemed nice and the place wasn't filthy, and because there's no way to give it 0. The middle eastern woman is a nightmare. She's so rude and gave me a dirty look when I said she was hurting me. My nail color is uneven and has a huge bubble on my pointer finger, I have polish on my skin. My first trip here was wonderful, but my second came up lacking. Everyone seemed distracted, as if they didn't want to be there, and I ended up walking away with a color I wasn't happy with and a cut that was just so-so. Sad day. read more

This review is for Alison. I received a custom airbrush tan from her for my sisters wedding last Thursday. She took her time and made sure everything was even on me. The tan turned out amazing! I still have great color after five days now with very little fading. I've never had better results from a spray tan nor have I had a better experience in a custom airbrush session.
