Just wrote a negative review of a salon where I had a bad experience over the weekend... figured I would balance out my karma by writing a positive review of Tran's, which has become one of my go-to casual nail salons.... The Bala Cynwyd Shopping Center is on my way to and from a lot of different things so I've ended up at Tran's nails a handful of times over the past 18 months or so. Every time I've had my nails done here, it's been a good experience. The technicians take their time and do a good job, the salon is clean if modest/non-descript, and their prices are on par with salons where your experience will be much more hectic and rushed and the technicians will be much less attentive and careful. If I pay $12 for a manicure, I'm certainly not expecting a life-altering experience but it's nice to be able to relax a little. I've never seen this place crazy busy, which honestly may not be great for them but it's all the better for me! While I'm now seeing that others experiences have not always been as positive, I really have nothing bad to say about this place. Definitely gets a "recommended" from me. read more

Not very personable. Justin & the young assistant answering the phone have good English speaking. The ladies speak to each other. Not much to "you". Nail Dryers are fast and great. Using rolling chairs are dangerous. No, arm rests. I've done them a hand full of times now. And I'm moving on. Can't get them to listen. I prefer thicker acrylic on my nails. I work in an office setting mostly. And the nails are always chipping or a piece coming off. Prices went up and they didn't tell me. There's No Poster etc. to inform you of their pricing. Had an event to go to, toes needed to be out, and I had one messed up toe nail. I just wanted 1! toe fixed so I could be in and out to get ready. My tech filed off all of my toe polish on the one foot, after I already asked 5-8 times to only have that one toe redone, and I even settled with having to get my one foot redone, however she proceeded to force my other foot down and shave off the gel on that one. I need my feet to look good for this event so I just said forget it, but this was not a good experience. I did not ask for a pedicure and I hate that they were incompetent enough to not understand that I didn't want that, when I clearly communicated that multiple times. Only came because of proximity to where I was at the time, but I will not be coming back again, especially since they look TERRIBLE. 0/5 if I could. read more

Their prices are way too high for my nails to chip three days after I had them done ! Not to mention I got gel polish with a manicure . I've been to nail salons that has way cheaper prices that lasts much longer than Trans ! And the nail tech stopped in the middle of my pedicure , to service another client that arrived after me ! Professional, clean and organized! I love the spa pedicure, Genny gives amazing massages.

Quick and quality service! They only take appointments now so make sure you call a few days before to guarantee an appointment! I miss back when they take walk-ins but it's not so bad making an appointment. Masks are required so don't forget to wear them. Their prices are still reasonable and affordable. Dont waste your time or money! My daughter wanted her nails done and got nails dipped in powder. They have been falling off ever since. One by one. Its very frustrating and annoying to have to come and wait again and again everytime a nail falls off. I have been waiting over an hour to have one nail fixed and 3 other people were told to go and get their nails done that came in after us. How extremely rude and what horrific customer service. This is the last time we will be back here to waste my time and money and deal with this nonsense. FYI there is no where to sit and wait! I've been coming to this nail salon since the summer and I've never experienced what I did during this last visit. Usually my full acrylic sets would only cost me at most 30 dollars when I previously came there. When I left, they tried charging me $50 for a regular full set. Claiming my nail length and shape was the cause. However, every time I've came I've always gotten the same shape and length. When I heard the price, I disapproved and explained to them that the price was outrageous (because of reasons listed before). The man who is in there started to get a little rude by saying I should've asked before just getting a service, and he tried to use my cousins nails to justify it but my cousin's nails are way shorter then mine but he tried to say they were long too and the price was just however my cousin's were 30. We negotiated to lower it to $40 dollars, but this nail job still wasn't worth that amount either. My nails are different lengths, some are longer than others. And the paint job was messy. Lastly it hasn't even been a week yet and my nail is already super loose. In addition to that, I'm a college student, I don't do anything too taxing in my daily activities that would wear my nails down. I would understand if my nails were that price if I would've gotten a full set with gel polish, but I got regular polish. read more

I visited Trans because I always saw it when I would go grocery shopping. I'm glad I tried them out! They were all super friendly (luckily I got in before a rush), and my manicurist did my artificial nails perfectly. They were completely even! I paid the extra $10 for her to paint the tips, however, next time I think I'll opt for gel polish for that because the corners started to rub off (I write allot) about a week after the appointment. The manicurist did the perfect french tip and was very quick, but good. I personally see this as a positive, since I'm a med student and I don't have a ton of free time (ha, what's that?) HOWEVER, it's been 12 days and there is minimal grow-out and NO lifting on the nails -- they still look quite fantastic!! I'm very happy about popping in! PS -- They take major cards, but you have to tip in cash. Luckily there's a Well's Fargo in the Plaza and BoA across the street. Edit 4/28/16---------------------------------------------------------------- Recently went and got a gel manicure from here and DAMN I am impressed! It's been over two weeks and it hasn't chipped or peeled off at all (which, yes, I've had issues with that in the past). I mean, obviously I'm overdue for a new mani since my nails are grown out but the longevity of their gel mani is fantastic. After trying a few times to find a decent mani/pedi spot in Bala Cynwyd (those who know Bala know it's kind of an armpit when it comes to stuff like this), I finally decided to risk it and walk into Tran's, despite a coworker warning me that she tried it years ago and it sucked. This particular coworker also wore overalls once in my presence, so naturally I will defy any recommendation she ever makes 'til the end of time. Once I got past the way this place looked on the outside (sketchy vertical blinds.. tucked into a corner of an already crappy shopping center - by crappy I mean houses a Dress Barn as one of its tenants_), I was kind of pleased by the inside. Looks like your typical nail salon. Good pedicure chairs w actual massage feature (not just the bzzzzzzz, but actual functionality), etc. Their color choices are decent, and I never seem to need an appointment. They have a mani/pedi special on Mon-Thurs where you get $5 off, so that's cool. I went today and it was $30 total. My polish always lasts a while, and all of their customers are alwasy friendly and kind of fun to talk to. Plus, they have a TV, and they more often than not are playing episodes of Spongebob, which is fantastic. The only thing that bugs me is that they have these four, rather hideous pieces of artwork hanging above the nail dryers that are lined up right next to each other, and JUST a little bit crooked. I think they hung them askew on purpose, but it's just the worst. Anyway, If you want a relatively quick, quality, inexpensive manicure/pedicure, then def try this place. If you're looking for a spa-like atmosphere, then I would travel elsewhere. read more

Not at all proficent with uv gel. They have the products, but no clue how to use them. They do a good, standard pedicure and have an ok selection of OPI polishes, nothing very special. They are certainly overpriced, I was told $45 for the gel manicure alone, and $30 for the pedicure [I've received the same services at other salons, namely Nails By Anthony, for around $50 total]. read more

Not a bad little spot at all. Contrary to some reviewers here, I think Trans Nailery does a fine gel manicure. They're comparable to the ones I used to get at Main Line Nails in Edgemont -- clean, quick, competent, good color choices.... but the polish seems to chip, usually by the end of the first week. For gel manis, that's not great wear. By contrast, when I go to Rose Nails in Bala Cynwyd (less than a mile up the street, in the FIRESTONE shopping center), the polish remains solid & shiny until it's professionally removed, just how a gel mani is supposed to last. Seriously, I've had at least a dozen gel manis there, and the polish literally grows out, rather than wearing off. Same deal with Koko Nails in East Falls. I have no idea why some salons can't reproduce those results, but its not uncommon and oh well Trans Nailery is one of "those salons." Maybe it's technique or they skimp on products or something??? Anyway, Trans Nailery is open on Sunday (11:30 - 4:30) and till 7:30 every other night of the week, so sometimes convenience for me must win out over quality, oh well. It's not like they do a bad job, they just don't do a fantastic one. Nice massage, though! And the girls seem really grateful for tips, and happy to be of service. read more

I literally only go here because its close to where I live. They are very sometimey with the quality of their full sets. They can never get the nail shape right and at times over charge for medium nail lengths. I stopped getting full sets there if the man is not there. He is the only person who does nails right. I went to get a pedicure last week and the nail tech lets me soak my feet then proceeds to tell me my pedicure will be $43 as if I asked her. I went to this nail salon for the first time today. I was treated right away and was taken within 5 minutes. I was unsure of the color I wanted and the nail tech helped me pick a color that I was thinking about. The woman did a lovey job on my nails (I got a gel manicure). She worked very hard and paid a lot of attention to her work. I would definitely go again. A downfall to the nail salon is you cannot leave a tip on when using a card, so bring cash! read more

This place is decent the lady/male's employees are very nice and friendly. I have went to this place a couple of times. My gel manicure polish lasted very long on top of my gel filled nails. I can't complain this lady shaped my nails very well. The pedicure wasn't mad, it did it's duty for the price. I get my nails done every other weekend. This time I waited an extra week, my nails still don't look to bad. FYI: I am very anal about my nails. This is the best place I have found, since I have moved to Manayunk and Bala Cynwyd area. I was going to Tran's Nailery for a few years for pedicures. My daughter started getting her beautiful, thick eyebrows cleaned up about a year ago. For the most part, they were doing a really good job. However, there were two incidents that occurred. I left to run an errand within the shopping center to return to her upset as a result of one of them messing up her eyebrows. The first one made them too thin, the second one put deep arches in them - none of which was asked of them to do. Both incidents, I addressed my concern with the manager on duty, they apologized, and repaired them. She had to grow her brows back in because she likes them thick. (Oh, and they NEVER offered a discount for our troubles). I noticed that those two people that messed her eyebrows no longer do them. Moving forward, my rule was to stay in there with her while getting them done. Well, my daughter's graduation party was the next day. That translates to many errands! My daughter was already comfortable with getting her brows done on her own, so I went on. When she met me in the store, she was upset with what they did with her eyebrows. She asked for them to be cleaned up, but one of them was a lot thinner that the other. When we returned, I showed the issue to this tall thin Asian guy with a clean haircut. I think it was safe to assume he was the owner as I've seen him open and close the shop many times in the past. He had the audacity to tell me that my daughter walked in here with her eyebrows already messed up. Insulted by this comment, I asked him if he conducted inspections of each client upon entry of this shop. He said no, but he could tell from the way it looks that there was already something wrong with her eyebrow. I asked him if this was his final answer. Meaning, NO apology, NO acknowledgment of any wrongdoing on their part, just placing blame on the customer?? He shrugged his shoulders. I walked out and swore never to return. The ONLY reason why I'm not giving them 1-star is because they do great nails and I loved their pedicures. read more

I really tried to like this place because it's so close to where I live, but no luck. On my first visit I got a gel mani/pedi for $60. Nothing "spa" like about it. It felt extremely rushed, as if I was an inconvenience. About a 3 second of what I think was supposed to be a massage. However, I will say the nails came out beautifully, and grew out without chipping. I decided to go back again. About 3 weeks later I went back for another gel mani/pedi. This was horrible. The nail tech spent more time on her phone or talking to others than working on my nails. When she was doing my hands, I told her she wasn't painting the nails all the way and the thumb nail had a massive dent and air bubble on it. She then pulled the "I don't speak English" very well routine, which makes me madder than most because I am Asian...to top it off, the mani/pedi went from $60 to $65 in less than 3 weeks? (Plus $5 to remove the first gel mani/pedi set - which is fine.) Less than 12 hours later, my nails started chipping and looked like they had already grown out (since she didn't paint them all the way in the first place). Needless to say, I was really upset and disappointed. I couldn't even get it fixed because I left the country for a wedding. Today, I went in to get the pedi gel off since it looked like a hot mess after just 9 days. (I can remove the mani gel myself.) I reconfirmed that it was $5 since they like to change their prices at a whim. The guy said it was $5 and asked if I wanted to get it removed, so I said yes. Again, the nail tech spent more time on her phone than paying attention to me. I had to literally tell her my nails are burning, please finish the job. After she removed the gels, she told me I can go now. I asked her if she was going to clean my feet off since the acetone was still on my skin and she said "no, all done." Awesome. I then go to pay and the guy says it's $10!!! Twice the price from 10 minutes ago! I told him he said $5 and he said he made a mistake and it's $10 for toes, $7 for hands. I said 3 weeks ago it was $5 for both hands and toes, 10 minutes ago it was $5 just for toes and now it's $10/7!? I pulled out a $10 bill and said if you take 10 instead of 5, you've lost a customer for life. Shocker...he didn't think twice and took the $10 and sat down. Stay classy, Trans Nail Salon! Gave this place a second chance after they messed up my gel acrylics last time (polish not even and scuffed on two nails) and regretted it. I stopped in to see if there was a wait after work since my schedule freed up and I was told 15 minutes for gel acrylics. I patiently waited a half hour and when the nail tech came over, she asked me what service I wanted and then told me she couldn't do acrylics and took the person after me (not blaming the nail tech, the person managing the store is at fault). I waited another 15 minutes after that and ultimately walked out after 45 minutes of waiting. They should not have been greedy and told me 15 minutes when they knew that wasn't going to happen. Shows that they only care about money and not their customers. This place is not worth the time and these people don't deserve your hard earned cash. Will never be returning to this nail salon. read more
