I would never use this company unless you like to be scammed. Scott Trantel is a crook and takes advantage of customers in anyway possible. He will charge you for a permit for each unit of $250 but then he does not get the permit. This is free money in his pocket. If a permit is not issued and the work was done causes a fire, you insurance company will look at that to not pay the claim. This could cost you thousands of dollars. Don't take my word for it, call the county to see if he got a permit, chances are, he did not. Don't be scammed by this guy, he is not what you think he is. read more

We called Trantel for a gas furnace inspection and maintenance after another contractor expressed concern our furnace was emitting carbon monoxide. The first technician didn't bring a carbon monoxide reader. The second tech said everything was fine. Neither tech provided a report of their inspection. Less than two months later the furnace died due to a cracked heat exchanger. The reading at the exhaust pipe was 1500 ppm. Call someone else for gas furnace maintenance. read more

We have gone one month without AC (including the 100+ degree weekend) because the last company hired by our home warranty was incompetent. The inside of our house has hovered between 85-90 degrees. Three visits and still no working AC with no date in sight. I pushed our home warranty company Thursday night and they transferred the case to Trantel. I hope you don't actually need help, because you will not get it from this company. After patiently waiting the up to 24 hours to schedule an appointment (took about 19 of those 24), I scheduled a FOUR HOUR window, which is poor enough in itself and required an entire day off of work. Of course, they did not show in that window. 30 minutes after the window closed, I called them. The poor phone rep did not know why they had not arrived, and investigated. Then they promised a delay only - they would show up within the next 2 hours. At the end of that EXTRA 2 hours (literally the last 10 min) they phoned to let us know it would actually be rescheduled 7 days later and that we were not a priority. Please do not hire them for anything, the customer service is extremely poor and they care nothing for hot customers with small children. read more

Second time having Trantel do warranty replacement fix on our heating and cooling system. Great, honest run company. They work to give you options for your home. Their technicians are excellent and really know what they are doing. Had different company originally come out (warranty company dispatches) and they passed the buck and said they "couldn't do the work in time." Trantel replaced them on the work order and diagnosed and ordered parts all the same day. Two technicians came out, Stephen and Steve. Both extremely knowledgeable and professional. We had a unit installed last year and was very pleased with it until a weird sound started coming from the unit. Once my husband pressed the tape down they used to seal the unit cracks and openings the sound went away. We called wondering if that was normal so they suggested we have someone come out to check out the unit. After 10 mins of re-taping the spots that lifted we were charged 115. On the hottest day of the year my heat pump stopped working. Portland was in the middle of a heat wave and I feared that it might be days before it gets fixed. Scott came out the same day of my call, diagnosed the problem, replaced a part and was done in about a half hour. Scott charged me a total of $157 for the service: most of the other HVAC businesses were charging $170-195 for the house call/diagnostic service alone. Due to a second floor leak, water had made its way into our furnace. All seemed fine until a few days later when the furnace stopped working on one of the coldest windiest days of the year. Don't waste your time and money with these guys. We had to work with them because the home insurance assigned the company to check out our heaters. Scott showed up once, he got his money. He had a couple things to follow up, which took him over a month to do. We opened another case a month later via the insurance company, he was dispatched to come over, but he never showed up (there was not going to be a payment the second time). He did not return our calls, or responded to our text messages. Bad work ethic all over. Save yourself some frustration, and avoid them. read more

We had a new furnance put in when we purchased the house. We have had nothing but problems with it since. We new the AC was fairly new and that Trantel had replaced it. One of the problems with the new furnance was that the thermostat kept the AC on constantly, We had their techs checking at least % times with no satisfying results. I kept asking them if something coultd be wrong with the wiring which they said no that wasn't the problem. I called Tantrel to see if they could check out their AC and find the reason it ran all the time, When the tech came out, the first thing he did was check the new thermostat and found a bare wire. He seperated all the wires in both the thermostat and furnance, made a few adjustments and now the AC comes on as needed instead of running constantly. Unfortunately, I cannot remember the Tantrel technician's name but he knew more about the thermostat than the people that installed. We will continue to use Tantrel as needed. read more

Scott gave us a quote for several thousands of dollars of boiler work at our church. We accepted the bid and scheduled a start date. When the weather turned hot, he asked to postpone the work since he had so many cooling customers needing his services. We agreed. I have attempted to contact him by phone and email many times now and he just blows me off. I see recent reviews, so he is still alive and in business. He obviously has no intention of honoring our agreement. It seemed like he was an upstanding individual. We obviously are very disappointed. Our home warrenty provider referred us to Trantel who dramatically upsold us on a new heater. When the fan would only run on low we tried contacting them and got no response. When the entire system quit 6 months after being installed we called multiple times and got no responses to our voicemails, and several times the "mailbox was full" and we couldn't even leave a message. A warrentee for work does no good if the compnay won't take care of it's customers after the product is installed! This is consistent with the reports filed against them with the BBB.
