A friend suggested we try this place out for Roman street food and a light snack after a visit to the Tenement Museum. It was just a few minutes walk down the street and it was a great pick! We didn't want to eat a big meal as we were planning to eat a meal a few hours later before seeing a show. Friendly and fast service. Delicious white bean and lentil soup and roasted eggplant (parmigiana di melanzane) trapizzini, which is an Italian pizza pocket. Their dough is house-based sourdough pizza dough and they fill it with traditional Roman recipes. Super good and hit the spot. My friends were a little disappointed as they had just run out of coffee. The good news is that there are coffee joints everywhere in NYC. :) Would highly recommend Trapizzino for a quick, delicious bite!

This is a cozy, small Italian spot with a really welcoming feel. The service stood out right away and was everyone was kind, and it was nice seeing the staff step in for each other when things got busy. Food-wise, I ordered the ragù pasta and the cacio e pepe. The flavors were there, though the pasta itself was a bit chewy, and the cacio e pepe clumped together slightly. We also had the tiramisu, which was definitely a highlight. Even with those small things, the overall experience was great, and the atmosphere and service really carried the whole experience

Side notes- Prices from dishes are current and not from I was there last year. Favorite trapizzino was the Coda Alla Vaccinara followed by the Doppia Panna but the Lingua in Salsa Verde which is oddly served cold was tasty also and more unique. I was here with a group a while ago. I remember that we were set pretty far back originally but it was a bit too hot as the air conditioning didn't work the best so they allowed us to move which was kind. The place is pretty casual inside and I liked the atmosphere. They specialize in trapizzino which is apparently a Roman street food invented by the same guys who opened up this place which for lack of better words is a pizza pocket with Roman style pizza dough with a filling in the middle with some crispiness on top and softness on the bottom. I don't believe I had a drink for whatever reason. In terms of non trapizzino dishes, we ordered a bunch of vegetarian small plates. My preference were the Marinated Mushrooms for $14 with maitake, shiitake, crimini, and white wine vinegar. There was a nice mix and they had a good little bit of sourness and sweetness. The portion size was decent also and they would be nice to split and have with the trapizzino as they can counter the richness and potential oiliness of said mains. The Endive & Radicchio Salad for $17 with fennel, grana padano, and pine nut vinaigrette had a big portion size as expected for the price point though the flavors are on the lighter end. It would add a bit of bitterness if needed between bites and there are add-ons in case you want to make a meal out of the salad if you want to be healthy or something. The Slow Cooked Broccolini for $15 with ricotta salata and garlic confit were fine. I wish they were roasted longer to add a slightly burnt texture which is honestly my preference with the ricotta salata adding some light saltiness. Another person had the Carciofi Alla Giudia for $14 with crispy artichokes, lemon, and aioli which was decent. One other person had the Cacio E Pepe Suppli for $5 which they enjoyed though it was a tad small (though this is the typical case for these compared to arancini.) In terms of trapizzino, I think everyone but one person had at least two which are all $9.75 now though I think when we were there, they were around $8.50 or so. I went with three consisting of one special of the day/Trapizzino del Giorno and two ones from the standard menu which was more than enough food and I think two would be easily enough for a meal. The only one that I didn't try was the Polpetta Al Sugo with Nonna's beef meatball with tomato sauce which they enjoyed. Otherwise, I had the following in order preference- Coda Alla Vaccinara- 9-hour braised oxtail, red wine, tomato. Excellent flavors. Very well cooked down meat with some spice. I found this also complemented the bread the best with it not falling out as easily and it being a bit richer. Doppia Panna- Stracciatella di burrata, Cantabrian anchovies- Good quality ingredients. This had a nice mix of saltiness and savoriness with the creamy burrata pairing nicely with the salty anchovies. Also very tasty Lingua in Salsa Verde- Veal Tongue, parsley, gaeta olives. This was a special and it was solid though a bit lightly flavored for my taste and I found the cold tongue to be odd and unexpected. The veal was tender (and especially for tongue) while the salsa had a slight freshness and sourness from the olives. Decent. The food here is a bit pricey for the general quality but there are some tasty dishes. I wish the pockets were filled a bit more but there are some good flavors here and one/two good appetizers.

Cute Roman cafe/restaurant, I think their lunch menu is worth it for 1 trappizini with the addition of salad or pasta for either 15 or 20 bucks. Food was solid, no complaints! Their whipped ricotta was phenomenal and would def recommend getting this !

Stopped by for a cozy bite with friends. It definitely brings the ambiance and nice service for a night out. Beautiful lighting and interiors feel like a treat for the senses. Food wise, perhaps it was not their evening. I wasn't particularly impressed with the filling of the Trapizzini Pollo Alla Cacciatora (Chicken). The chicken was basically not there in the room with us. Mostly sauce. Other trappazinis ordered were the oxtail, the meat lacked flavor and was not memorable. I was underwhelmed by the broccolini we ordered as well. Described as "Slow cooked broccolini with ricotta salata cheese and garlic confit," much of which was not coming through. Under seasoned and just not worth the price. There are quite a few offerings on the menu ranging from antipasto to pasta dishes. We intended to order more but were not appetized by what we had already ordered so decided to skip it.

Dined at this casual legitimate Italian spot with two others. This is the only location outside of Italy. Had the kale Caesar salad, cacio e Pepe, three kinds of suppli (fried risotto balls with filling), and three kinds of trapizzini (pizza sandwich pockets). For dessert, we had the olive oil cake. I enjoyed the salad, pasta, cheesy risotto ball, and eggplant trappizini most. The olive oil cake was also light, balanced, and delightful. Drinks were also good.

Had dinner here while in town for work. Loved the atmosphere and service was fast, attentive and helpful. I wish there was a more extensive selection on the menu, but I landed on a chicken pocket dinner. It was flavorful and filling. I also had the marinated olives to start and the Hugo spritz to drink. Seemed like a great spot in the lower east side for a date night or quick dinner with a friend!

Saturday at 10pm I can't believe that I've never gone to this place when I lived in the les , I totally missed out on their version of a sandwich . Because it's late , I wanted to keep it "light" and had a burrata with anchovies ( soo delicious ), washed down by a glass of Sauvignon blanc . Service is super friendly and attentive by every single staff which is atypical . Special shout to Luis! Small , quaint and have the trattoria vibe with one side of the wall open to the street which allows one to be engage by the activities outside but with an arms length ( watching vs being in the midst of) while eating delicious bites . The rice balls ( cacio pepe and the other options are all exceptional). As it was my friends bday , the staff made it special by wishing and singing happy birthday which completely made her day ! The food was great! The service was not good. We were pointed to a table and then sat there for 10 minutes before we had to ask for menus. We then order our drinks. About 5 minutes later, we order apps. About 10 minutes after, our apps come and no drinks. We had to ask about the drinks and then the beer comes quick and the drink comes later and it's watered down. It's loud but nice in there.

Stumbled upon this place after doing some shopping on Orchard Street and so glad I did! Chill, enjoyable place with very cool ambiance (I've never been to Italy but I imagine the interior of a cafe there looks like this!), friendly service, and very tasty food. Definitely gonna make a point to come back.

What a strange restaurant. They have essentially open hot pockets for $9.50 each called trapizzinis. The ambiance and decor makes it seem like a $$ restaurant, but then you're hit with the menu and you're not sure whether you're supposed to order one or two or more of these trapizzinis. Is it a tapas type situation? The bread is very thick and the trapizzinis are presented on little stands.

I was in the area and decided to try this out today since i was in the mood for arancini/rice balls. In my neck of the woods in Bronx, we have some of the best Italian food in ny. I got their classico and their cacio e pepe. Classico suppli/riceball: Meh. Decent crust, however the mozzarella in the middle was cold. Ok seasoning, but unimpressive. Caco e pepe: Boring as heck. Dry, desperately needs some sort of sauce. Overall: Not going back to, waste of time and money.

Fantastic meal and service! Our waiter had great recommendations. We ordered the Salumi, Oxtail Trappizini, Cacio e Pepe and Crispy Artichokes for dinner (sorry we were so hungry and missed some photos). For drinks, I had the frozen limoncello with rosemary. My sister preferred the Negroni over the canned aperol spritz. We finished off with the amazing olive oil cake with a decadent lemon butter. read more

These trapizzini are pretty good, but are more like bread with some sauce slathered on along with a little bit of protein, than they are like a sandwich or pizza. For $6, you get one of the several varieties with a protein and some sauce. They're pretty messy, as the contents are overflowing the top of the pocket of bread. The Chicken Cacciatore and the Oxtail are delicious, but the Suppli ($3), or Rice Balls, might be even better. They only had the classic with Ragu and the vegetarian available, but both were pretty great. Beware inconsistency though, as some other people have had them served cold with disappointingly hard cheese, but when I tried them they were piping hot with gooey cheese. I might be back for the suppli as a fun little snack, especially if more of the flavors become available. read more

Cute restaurant with a focus on trapizzini which are basically these stuffed triangular pockets of pizza dough. The origin of this food is as a quick snack or a street food which is possible but we had a large sit down dinner in the restaurant. Decor is pretty cute and they have a large liquor selection than I would have expected from tis type of restaurant. Fried artichokes as an appetizer were pretty solid but that's just because artichokes are inherently great as long as you aren't the one prepping the artichoke. I had a trapizzini filled with braised greens that tasted exactly like what I would have thought, that Italian slow cooked vegetable flavor with a bit of garlic. Their calabrian chili sauce is really good, would highly recommend adding on between bites. Friends had the oxtail which is probably the most popular option and seemed to like it. I think this place is better enjoyed as a place to hop in and grab a snack but they do have a surprising amount of seating if you are looking for a more casual place in the LES. read more

I was recently in the area and decided to stop into Trapizzino for a quick lunch... and I was SO glad I did!!! Everything about this small, perfectly run restaurant was to my liking!! I absolutely loved the concept of their menu items bringing authentic Roman items to the city at an affordable, causal place! Their Trapizzinos are light but elevated from a classic sandwich or slice of pizza. Their flavors are unique and each one just as delicious as the next! Not to mention the suitable rustic design inside and out that is just simply charming. Even the small details like the lighting, music, and color scheme matched their ambience but small details like this are what make a place so amazing!! As far as my specific experience, my party was seated right away when we arrived at around 1:30 and served with drinks, appetizers, and main courses very promptly. Our waitress was especially hospitable and sweet, just the best! Our food, just as our service, was on point. Fried artichokes were crispy, flavorful, and tender. Suppli each had their own different flavors and were all made perfectly. They were so crispy with a solid outer crunch but wonderfully moist and hearty on the inside. And last but not least- their Trapizzino!!!!! The one that I ordered personally was the zucchini burrata with a delicious mint addition. The fluffy, toasted-to-perfection triangular pizza pocket was stuffed with a dreamy burrata that was like silk for your palette. The creamy burrata was paired with mint roasted zucchini slices. I would never think of this combo but it WORKED! And so wonderfully too! The best part of this food was that unlike other restaurants, it didn't weigh me down at all. It was satisfying, delicious, and totally not over stuffing!! Overall, my experience here was 5 star and would go back at any chance I got!! read more

5/5 because The food was delicious and arrived quickly The place is clean Nice seating options (little candles, bench etc) The service is efficient and friendly The price is very reasonable for what it is The bread is delicious and so is the filling A bit hard to eat but nothing about the food was a turn off 16 dollars seems to be above average for two pieces of stuffed bread But the meatball is amazingly soft and the oxtail is more of a beef stew than something you need teeth for You'll have a good lunch here, or a dinner, or even a quick savory snack The food is good for just about any occasion other than breakfast Would suggest this place for a nice light meal read more

Had this place bookmarked for forever but didn't realize what a cute spot it actually was until I randomly wandered by it on a Saturday afternoon. The doors open up onto the street, super reminiscent of places in Italy, and it's good spot to just chill and drink some wine. The trapizzino were yummy - fluffy bread with tasty fillings - and I had the caponata di verdure which I quite liked (light tasty veggies to complement the fluffy bread). The chicken one was also very good (super flavorful) and the oxtail was a bit of heartier flavor. Super sad the beef tongue was out - had read a lot of good reviews for it. Would I necessarily go out of the way for this? No. But is it a good spot if you're looking for a relaxed afternoon in Lower East Side? Yes. read more

Trapizzino in Trastevere, Rome is phenomenal, seriously so good. So was looking forward to trying the NY location The bread in NYC is fantastic but the tomato sauce lacks flavor. There are some things I truly love about this place. It happens to be one of the larger places to eat on the block, its light, its a fresh idea and the food has always been very good. I love when they have their butternut squash pocket. Unfortunately I was not a fan of the rice-ball, but I realized that's not really my thing. I appreciate their style in the sense that the menu is always different, but sometimes when you are craving those specific flavors- it's nice to go back to one you remember. I only tend to come in when my favorite one is on the menu. I also wish they were open later- in a hip neighborhood like this and with the easy travel capabilities of this dish, it makes sense it it was a late night meal but alas, you have to wait until tomorrow. 4/5 read more

After seeing a ton of pictures of this place on Instagram, I decided to try it out. I ordered the Classico Suppli and the Meatball Polpetta Trapizzini, which was a meatball stuffed inside the bread pocket. Both were delicious and served hot. The servers were incredibly friendly, but a little slow, so I wouldn't recommend coming here if you're in a rush. However, the food was very good and I'm looking forward to going back and trying some of the more adventurous Trapizzini's. read more

Just when I thought I'd fallen into the same old Trapizzino, this cute li'l eatery steps in to break up the tedium. As in why just settle for any 'ole bread and filling when you can score a street food-inspired Roman sandwich pocket cum pizza hybrid instead? Why, indeed: So yeah... While on a recent mini food crawl with hubby, this capped off an afternoon of indulging. With that in mind, we decided to share a Suppli, aka fried, stuffed risotto ball and of course, a Trapizzino. For the former, went with Leek & Taleggio. Fried to a perfect crisp, it was delicious, though I found myself longing for some marinara to dip it in. For the latter, went with a filling of Eggplant & Tomato. A bit messy to eat, but really lovely, especially its light, airy bread 'pocket.' Also worth mentioning is the comfortable interior of this fast casual spot. I think I've been so beaten down by the proliferation in NYC of claustrophobic AF hovels with near zero seating and no restrooms that a place like this actually gets me excited (wink). It's roomy! It's aesthetically appealing! There's a restroom! Service was super welcoming and kind, too. Who doesn't love that? Bottom line: Not quite feeling five stars. I think I need to try a few more items to bring myself over that edge (another wink). Ultimately, would happily return to sample more of the menu, which incidentally rotates daily. read more

This place is in Italy and NYC and is famous for its Roman street food pizza pocket and I can confirm, they do live up to the hype. They also have fried Roman style risotto balls called suppli that are really good! I tried the zucchini pizza pocket and the chicken pizza pocket. They just recently launched their brunch menu and it's pretty good! I got the hazelnut bomboloni and they were so fresh. I'm a huge fan of this place and I love that it is so reasonably priced--hard to come by in NYC. read more

Need to post a review and get these food pictures off my phone, otherwise I keep getting hungry looking at them! To be honest, this place was a Plan C, since Plan A and Plan B would both require 1hr+ wait. The city don't joke around with brunch... anyways we walked in after seeing street sign advertising their "Pizzas", so it turned out to be NOT what we expected but that's cool too. They feature two things - the Trapizzini is a triangle bread with filling and the Suppli is a fried risotto ball - each with a variety of flavor options. Check in on Yelp for a free sample of the latter. These bread pockets were soft but firm (also the ideal mattress), buttered up and perfectly designed for this purpose in life. The red sauce of the oxtail or white sauce of the chicken, or whatever other option you choose, dribbles down into all the crevices like lava in a cave, spreading the flavor to all corners and all bites. They look small and harmless, but even one is filling enough for a full meal. The croquette-like snack was equally as innovative. The ouside is strong and sturdy (not mushy like most things of that shape & size) with just the right amount of crunch. The inside, much softer but also sturdy, flavor blast of classic cheese and meats, but made of mostly rice. Also filling in itself. Lots of good flavors and taste experiments to try, although definitely carb heavy. Enjoy. read more

I want to give this place six stars. It is 100000% amazing every single time you go. The staff is VERY cool and very LES while being incredibly friendly and welcoming. The bartender I've had on the days I go is an absolute G. He introduced me to a mezcal negroni that is to die for. The food is some of the best in the area and will fill you up. I bring guests from out of town here VERY regularly because it lives up to everyone's expectations. If it's crowded see if you can sit at the bar, it's almost like a chef's table experience and is actually my preferred place to sit. Tip the staff well, they have made an incredible experience in the heart of Hell Square. read more

Very few tables on a Friday night and now we know why. The wine was great, but we waited over an hour after ordering and were only served one dish of (very salty) fried potatoes out of the five dishes we ordered. When we flagged down our inattentive server, she let us know that due to "technical difficulties" our food would take even longer to prepare. Stopped by last weekend, and I honestly wasn't sure what to expect. All I knew that I was hungry and they offered samples. Walking in the restaurant was pretty crowded and the two guys working were really patient and helpful with their suggestions. I ended up ordering the cacio e pepe and a meaty (I believe it had some ham and mortadella) suppli . I also got 3 of the trapizzino: lingua, polpetta, and doppia panna. The suppli: They were good but very dense and filling. I was a little disappointed that they were not filled with cheese. I would probably not order these again unless I was starving. The trapizzino: Now these were SOOOO good. The bread they use is so fresh and tasty. You can tell the dough has been properly fermented and it's just seriously so tasty. My favorite of the trapizzino was the lingua! It's covered in this green sauce and it all just comes together so beautifully. My only complaint is that there aren't any plates and it gets a little messy eating everything. Otherwise try it out! You won't be dissappointed. read more

The food was not good in any way. The fried rice balls (each of the 3 orders we received) were dry. Our pasta was relatively unseasoned (how does Caccio e pepe have no pepe???), and our Trapizzino were equally flavorless. Service was inconsistent and at times confusing. I was really surprised by how much I would love pizza in a cone, but I guess it doesn't matter how you give me oxtail I'm a happy girl! The oxtail ragu is really the star of the show. The other food is good, but that's the main draw and on it's own is an easy 5 stars. Savory, hearty, filling, this would be an amazing street snack on a cold day. I was quite impressed by Trapizzino's looks in and out. It's been a while since I walked into a place and felt good just by my surroundings! Curious to find out about the Roman street food, we ordered the eggplant, meatball, fresh greens, and chicken Trapizzino. We also took up on the waitress's suggestion on the classical suppli. The perfectly baked bread on the Traps caught my attention but my meatball was a bit crumbly and bland to my unhealthy taste. The eggplant to my surprise turned out as the most delicious. The suppli has an awesome texture and got me thinking how they made it. Worth trying. I got a vibe that this spot might be more fitting as a lunch place because their main menu items are relatively light and small in portion (though you could order wine and salami). While walking around the Lower East side we decided to check out Trapizzino. It is a Roman favorite street food (pizza pocket filled with your choice of protein). It's a quick service restaurant that serve Trapizzino & Suppli (Roman fried rice balls) and gelato. The atmosphere is nice, plenty of seating and the staff is friendly. We ordered the Coda alla Vaccinara (oxtail ragu, celery and red wine). The oxtail was very rich and tender the flavor was outstanding. The pizza pocket was fresh and crispy. Next we tried the Zucca E Mandorle (butternut squash, toasted almonds and pecorino romano). Amazing, the flavors were delicious. For me while a great idea and a handy way to eat on the go, it was a little to much bread to filling ratio. Next we tried their Suppli. Sorry I cannot remember the fillings I know one was shrimp, but the flavors were great. For me I wish they had more cheese. Overall good experince. Definitely worth a try. read more

My daughter and I love this place. Well, my daughter more than loves this place honestly. She claims that their rosemary chicken pockets are her favorite food and their Italian orange sodas are her favorite beverage. I have to admit they are really good but she fan girls over the stuff. We paid an out of the norm visit this past Wednesday and when we pulled up to the corner, she squealed like she saw BTS crossing the street or something. Only wish they had more locations spread out.. or at least one closer to home. We live in CT but lucky for her, we frequent NYC more often than not. Trapizzino is a freshly baked pocket of pizza bianca ( a natural leavened Roman flat bread) made from milled flour and a starter yeast passed down from countless generations. As I was slowly strolling through Bryant Park one ice cold NYC day (God I hate the weather up here!) I noticed all of the pop up food stands sitting their in a row. At that time I saw Trapizzino and thought "oh good, yet another Italian food option in NYC...joy!" However, upon closer inspection of their food stand, I noticed that this was NOT your typical Italian food. As best as I can describe it, these are "foccia bread like triangle pockets filled with exotic meats/options'. I opted for the 'Coda alla Vaccinara' which is an "oxtail ragu, celery, red wine" filling. I have to say, if I ever see Babe the Blue Ox, I am slaughtering him and bringing him to Trapizzino to make me more of this absolute delicacy!!! First off, this bread pocket it OUTRAGEOUS! You can tell that hours of love go into making this little pocket of deliciousness. The oxtail was melt in your mouth quality and the marinades complimented the meat perfectly! The service was a bit slow, we would have long periods were we didn't see our server and she/he changed mid service without letting us know. So that was a bit confusing. But otherwise I would certain recommend swinging by!

Guys, do some QC and soul-searching - and be generous with pita.

I had originally saw this place on the Pizza Show with Scott and Mark Iacano and I absolutely had to try it. The crunch from the bread surrounding the oxtail Scott had echoed in my brain for a good few days! We sat down and ordered 2 trappizini from a really friendly and helpful waitress. I ordered the meatball one and my wife ordered the oxtail. I also ordered a couple of their risotto balls. The risotto balls were outstanding. I've had it where Arincini have very little discernible texture other than must but these had a clear rice texture that really added to the crunch of the breadcrumbs. These were delicious and executed very well. The grand finale, the trapizini were out of this world. The bread is the absolute standout for me. It is very light and is like eating a warm sourdough boule out of the oven. It has a wonderful light and airy crunch that leaves you wanting more. The Meatball was also one of the best I've had. It's accompanying sauce had a wonderful acidity to cut through the meatiness of the ball itself. Come here, it's amazing. read more

Stumbled across this place in Urban Space and this is a hidden gem. The sandwiches are very tasty! I got the eggplant parm sandwich and my only complaint is that it was not enough and I think they should offer some kind of deal for 2 halves instead of $7 for one! Other than that it was DELICIOUS! The bread was so soft and buttery but not too soft that it didn't hold the filling it was the perfect ration of filling to bread! I will def be back but they really need to adjust their pricing and offer 2 instead of 1. Oh and forget about the Risotta balls, they were nothing to write home about. They give it to you free if you pay with a citi card and that's the only way you should even give them a try. They are not worth $3. read more
