We didn't even get the full order. When I received the order I asked if that was it and they said yes. I was missing a whole roll. The sushi tasted like it had been sitting out and it was soggy. I visited Trappers in Covington today and I am so sick of how they run their sushi bar. It's a first come first serve basis, but if you sit and wait--- even if your party isn't entirely present-- you can reserve the whole bar for huge parties of people and take up the entire bar for themselves. That happened today when a huge party of 10 came in to take up the entire bar and they refused service to a party of two because they were trying to clear the entire bar out. They say it's against the rules but servers do it anyway. Then they refuse to seat smaller parties who are avaliable to be seated. It's happened to me at almost all of their south end locations and I am so done dealing with their crappy customer service and overpriced rolls. Won't be coming back. read more

Extremely long wait for just 2 flat roll orders. Poor communication among staff- food brought to wrong tables multiple times. No appatizers (edamame, cucumber salad, etc) offered for our wait. A table who ordered 10 minutes after us was served first even though they had ordered much more food than us. Unfortunately had to leave after 30 minutes of not being served to catch a movie. I love this place, and I'm surprised the reviews aren't better. It's clean, good service, and outstanding food. Don't come here for authentic or traditional Japanese sushi - this certainly strays from that - but it tastes delicious. Prices are reasonable especially for their specials. AYCE is awesome at the sushi bar. They aren't super fast, but the restaurant is usually busy, and food exceptional, so it's well-worth the 90 minutes for dinner. read more

I've been going to trappers for a while now and it is so amazing every time we are here on a Monday night for the 3 rolls for $25 and it's very busy and the entire serving and kitchen are not missing a beat everyone looks so please and there food pumping out! I got take out and was disappointed to wait 40 minutes only for them to forget my potstickers and my teriyaki chicken was absolutely disgusting, the fried vegetables on the side was soggy and the chicken itself had absolute NO TERIYAKI SAUCE!!!! I'm not a huge sushi person but this is the best sushi I have ever had the Mt. is one of my favorite rolls and is very filling! I've been a trappers fan since it was sushi town. I waited in line for lunch at the small sushi bar 12+ years ago. Covington opened and I started going there. I've been there a lot. Something has happened. Suddenly. I brought friends to check it out on Sunday night (12/22). There were 5 people behind the sushi bar, including a long term employee in a red uniform. I left there feeling embarrassed for talking up trappers to my Friends because we felt incredibly unwelcome. So unwelcome I had to ask if the two rolls I had were cheaper than the AYCE price (which I've never done). I've left plenty of positive reviews for trappers on here and google. I hope those reviews helped grow their business. Personally, I feel like something has changed. I went on their website to maybe leave a less public suggestion but there is no avenue on the trappers website. So I'm not sure what to do. It's been a day. I've been able to settle down. After so many years, I won't go back to the Covington trappers. read more

Overall I wasn't super satisfied with the food. The service was great and it was a pretty cool place. I have been to a trapper before at another location and I thought it was pretty good there, but it wasn't the same story here. The service was great. The waitress was friendly and the staff seems to work well together. They made there work environment fun for themselves as well as the customers. The problem for me was the food. It was just so plain to me and cheap. No flavor and nothing that had me satisfied. My wife and I had the Very Happy, the Seattle, The New York, and the Spicy Tuna. None of them had me wanting to come back. I'd say maybe the Very Happy was the best of the four. The Spicy Tuna was not even spicy, and I am pretty sensitive with spicy foods (my wife ordered it). I feel as tho I am being nice by giving this place 3 stars because the only thing that saved them was the service. But for a restaurant, you can have the friendliest staff in the world, but it's the food that makes a restaurant good or bad. read more

Sushi is great but good luck if you order take out. First time I was told half hour wait... It took about 75 minutes. Second time I went I was told 45 minute wait. It took almost an hour & 45 mins. I understand if you're short staffed or have a lot of orders but at least provide a close to accurate wait time! read more

This place is fabulous. I always sit at the bar for the all you can eat. It's expensive but worth it. There are times where the place is slammed and it's hard to get a seat. Sometimes it is very annoying when little kids are there with their parents taking up seats at the bar because the bar is the only place you can sit for the all-you-can-eat. read more

Went in for some sushi and their vegetable tempura dish. The rice, chicken and rolls are top notch and well made bring very distinct flavors to your mouth. The wait for food/takeout is a tad long for my taste but it can be expected when they are making their food fresh at the sushi bar. The vegetable tempura dish leaves much to be desired, especially for the price (both entree and appetizer) with small portions and so/so quality. Their rice and teriyaki chicken is delicious enough but the same quality can be found at a typical teriyaki joint for 5 bucks less. Was excited to dine in until I saw the lack of proper infection control. It ruined my meal witnessing the servers wearing non-compliant masks that don't stay on their faces. Our server pulled his mask up 16 times and never sanitized once during our visit. The other server ran his hands thru his hair and another ran around the restaurant with a phone in his hand. These are all huge violations of cleanliness even without a pandemic. Fortunately I couldn't observe how the rolls were being prepared, although at least one chef was wearing the pull up style mask. These are not effective and highly discouraged by the cdc. Keep your hands off your face/nose and hair while serving food!! Cross contamination at it's best...your customers are watching!! read more

They were super busy tonight, but the manager Aaron was making sure everyone was happy. We love this place, and have been going there for around 7 years. Great options for kids- the chicken tenders (or whatever they are called there) are actually really good, which means the whole family is happy! We ordered takeout for valentines day and half of our rolls arrived with no fish. When I called the letting them know about the issue and asking for a refund, I was told that the restaurant ran out of fish. I asked why orders were sent out with no fish, the person I spoke with had no response. I was told my order couldn't be refunded as it was purchased through UberEats and when I asked for a gift card I was told they couldn't do that either. I really can't believe a sushi restaurant would intentionally send out orders with no fish and then refuse to fix the problem. read more

I love coming here for sushi. We always receive great service. I've had everything from the long rolls to the sashimi and have never been disappointed till recently. We recently came in for lunch and did the 2 rolls for $13.95. I have to say I was disappointed about the portion sizes. It was 95% rice and 5% filling on the Buddha roll. I expect smaller portions with lunch specials but not that extreme. Next time, I would rather pay full price to get a better portion of filling. Other than that, we love coming here. I love that they are very active in the community with raffles to benefit various charities. read more

This is the best Sushi place Ive eaten at in the state of WA. On Sundays kids eat free, 1 per adult, so no your parents cant bring the whole elementary class to eat :). The all you can eat dinners are the best part. The shrimp tempura always hits our table fresh and pipping hot not like some spots that pre make them and just heat them up a little. The ones they make here you can see them sizzling in the fryer before it gets to you. The service here is great. The chefs are really cool (absolutely 5 stars just for the service from these guys) (I think Corey was the name of one the the chefs that was great, tall beard skinny light skin and the shorter dark skin fuzzy head guy) and the host/wait staff always are friendly and on top of things. The place is very nice and kept very clean. As for the sushi, they have many creative and tasty rolls. The Dragon, Mariner, Rainbow, Trapper and Marvelous are some of my favorites. I have yet to try the other stuff on the menu as Ive just come here for the good sushi and tempura but when I do I'll update my review. Thanks to the great staff and food my experiences here has always been consistently good. I wish it was closer to where I lived in King County but its worth the 30 min drive to eat here. read more

I came here knowing this isn't an authentic sushi restaurant, so my expectations were below bar but I didn't expect it to go underground. I use to make sushi and waitress at sushi and asian restaurants for 7+ years shelling out at least a couple hundred rolls and pieces of nigiri a day. It wasn't the best stuff but I do eat out at sushi restaurants quite often and know where all the places get their fish. How to tell which salmon grade and how fish is supposed to taste. Lets get to the review. The rolls sounded like its worth the price (Mt. Rainier roll on the specialty section: Crystal shrimp inside, topped with salmon, yellowtail, tuna, cooked scallops and crab). Honestly didn't expect what I was getting. Almost every roll either has a "crab" , crystal shrimp or tempura shrimp as the filling, it's the cheaper way to go. That I don't really mind but at least specify if it's imitation crab and at least SAY on the menu that the "crystal shrimp" is fried. I got my Mt Rainier roll and I was extremely confused. Some rolls say tempura shrimp. So I thought the "crystal shrimp" wasn't. I asked the waitress and she said it's supposed to be fried.. (I would not have ordered it in the first place if I knew). Not only was my roll stuffed with just a dry over cooked piece "crystal shrimp." It had one piece of salmon, one piece of yellow tail, and a dinky piece of tuna. The "cooked scallops and crab" on top were little rubbery pieces of overcooked nuggets and imitation crab. Super oily and hard to chew. The menu is standard. Your average tuna, salmon, albacore, yellowtail, and tobiko. I was surprised they even had squid too. Just I had expected from an Americanized sushi restaurant. No asians in sight, except me and my Hubster. The only highlight was the tea, squid, and service. The tea doesn't take a genius to make. Hot water + tea-bag, done. It was gen-matcha. Brown rice tea, my favorite. All squid are packaged and frozen, then delivered to businesses. Unless the house makes it themselves, 90% of all the places which has squid on the menu, is pre-made and packaged. Just defrost and slice. So I can't say anything good or bad about my squid nigiri. The service was average. Wasn't the best but was nice and friendly. Helpful but took way too long to get my card to and from the check out. 10 minutes after we got the bill, she finally came back to grab the checkbook. I still tipped her a 15% even though the food was awful and left me full but unsatisfied. Obviously I won't be coming back. Even for the all you can eat option. I'd rather go to Mizuki buffet for unlimited sushi for 30 bucks than to pay 25 for all you can eat overcooked scallops, thick riced rolls, fake crab, with a bit of fish on top. read more

This place is a disgrace to Japanese food. But I guess they know how to cater to the predominantly white crowd that resides around their restaurants. So i'll give them that but If you want authentic Japanese food and sushi go elsewhere. The sashimi here is tasteless probably bc it has been frozen for too long, but they mask the poor quality fish by creating these extravagant rolls that are doused with sodium and sugar. Their other dishes are far from great as they really don't know how to prepare traditional Japanese food. It really dumbfounds me that people think the sushi here is amazing. Honestly overall I did not like the sushi at Trappers. Now I understand that this is very Americanized sushi and that is what they are going with the menu but the quality was just not that good. The fish seemed fine but most of the other ingredient seemed just okay and not very fresh. Overall this was a huge disappointment since iv seen so many good reviews for this location. The sushi rice which is a VERY important part of sushi was mushy and just did not seem fresh. It made the whole roll very sub par and not something I would like to try again. One of the rolls we had was a tempura one and it just did not go very well with the other flavors. I don't remember which roll it was specifically. I also had the tempura ice cream here, now that seemed fine, but it also was sub par. I understand that getting tempura ice cream right can be difficult. But I have had much better homemade tempura ice cream. If you haven't had tempura ice cream before I would try it here just because its so good overall but just keep in mind that its not the best here and would definitely try it somewhere else. The service was okay, server seemed nice, didn't really pay any attention to us. If there was nowhere else to go for sushi I would come here but overall I personally would try to avoid this place. Basically I didn't hate it completely. It is worth trying for yourself to see if you like it just don't have high expectations. But for me, seeing as how there is a much better sushi place pretty close I will definitely not be returning anytime soon.
