I've heard many good things about this restaurant so my husband and I decided to check it out. I ordered an asparagus roll and a puyallup roll which is salmon, cream cheese and avocado. The first roll was good. The rice had a hint of sweetness. The puyallup roll was a bit too creamy for my taste. My husband enjoyed his salmon nigiri but didn't really enjoy his crab roll. First time here. We were here on a Sunday for party of 7 for early dinnerish. Waited about 10 min before being seated which wasn't bad. Sunday's, kids eat free with a purchase of a drink, that was a plus. We got lucky that day, it was their first day trying out some new system of paying via mobile device. The waiter comes to your table and if you're paying with card they can swipe on spot, have you enter your email address for a copy of the receipt and call it good. Anyways, food wise: we got the kids chicken teriyaki and fried Mac n cheese. Was ok. Chicken seemed a bit dry but my son still ate it. Daughter didn't care for the Mac n cheese. So imagine tater tot exterior with Mac n cheese interior. Both hubby and I got a roll each and it wasn't bad. Wish I could remember the name. Sorry, not much help in that aspect. My friend and I came here for happy hour, which was a great deal. There were a few sushi rolls for only six bucks, as well as appetizers for three bucks and well drinks for $3.50. Since we came here around 5:15ish we were able to snag a table at the bar, which was nice because the entire space is small, especially the bar area. Our server was nice and would continually check in on us. As the night went on the entire place was packed, including the bar area, so she was busy tending to the bar area and making drinks. But even with all of that, she did a great job as our server. In fact, all of the staff here was nice and as they brought out our sushi they asked if we had any questions about our plates or menu. The hostesses also make sure to greet you as you walk in and leave. And the food came out very quickly - the kitchen was fully staffed and it was obvious that they anticipated a crowd. We never had to wait long for our food. Though the service was great, the food and drinks were okay. Since the well drinks are only $3.50 on happy hour my friend and I ordered that and the server asked if we wanted to make it a double for only two bucks more, which was an awesome deal, so we went for it. But when my vodka-soda came it did not taste like double vodka at all. There was barely any in there, so I mostly tasted watered down soda. I most likely will just get a beer next time, which is also on happy hour. For six bucks each I ordered the Puyallup, the Mt. Rainier and the Seahawk Rolls. It was plenty of food, and ended up not finishing half of it. The Puyallup was deep-fried shrimp tempura with avocado and cream cheese and it was good, yet filling. Because of the batter you'll want to order a lighter sushi, so the Seahawk, which is basically an eel and avocado roll worked well with it. I mostly filled up on those two rolls. They were both decent. The Mt. Rainier Roll had baked scallops on top of the tuna and yellowtail roll, and I wasn't a fan of it at all. The baked scallops just had a fishy texture to it and didn't care for how it tasted. There was definitely plenty of it, so I ended up mostly scraping it off and eating the roll without it. The sushi here isn't the best, as it really is just a-o-k. The cut of the slices of the rolls was uneven and all of my rolls had uneven amounts of fish, compared to the other toppings. Trapper's isn't bad for sushi, but it's far from being the best or something I'd crave. I'm glad we came for the happy hour deal, which apparently the locals know about it, too, because as we left there were people waiting in the lobby to get seated as every table was filled. Also, the floor was super slippery! I had boots on, so thought it must be the heel from my boots to the floor that was so slippery, but my friend had gym shoes on and also thought she was gonna slip and fall. We were slowly walking to the restroom, so that we wouldn't slip! And doing so, I noticed how messy the floors were. There were a ton of scraps, crumbs, food on the floor. Overall, this place has great service and great prices, but will only come back when there's a deal/special as the food and drinks aren't the best. read more

Why oh why doesn't this chain have a location in Seattle? I have been to Sushi Town in Bonney Lake (the original) as well as this location in Covington and I have NEVER been disappointed. I have to say I have skeptical when my Mom first mentioned having Sushi in Bonney Lake but I was wrong for sure. My go-to roll is the Bonney Lake roll which is covered in spicy crab (I think it's really imitation crab meat, but if you don't like it I'll eat my sock). Other yummy rolls to try: The Timmy and another one that I can't remember the name of but is covered in mini scallops. Heaven. It's just really cool to find another Sushi place like Wasabi Bistro in Belltown that offers rolls that are more imaginative than your classic spicy tuna and California that you can get anywhere. Trust me, give this place a try... also, the ambiance and decor leaves something to be desired in Bonney Lake, but the Covington location is MUCH nicer. Not as much of that strip-mall feel that is so favored throughout the South End. read more

First experience at a trappers location. The rice used in the rolls and nigiri were very mushy, the girl behind the bar must of been rolling them so tight to cram as much rice into the roll as possible. All the rolls we ordered had the density of a dying sun. Both the end pieces to my roll were pure rice in the center. After one roll my stomach felt like I swallowed a brick. Big deal breaker for me was the inside of one of my rolls was tempura, trying to chew this stuff was similar to gnawing on beef jerky. All I could think about while I was eating this was how long this tempura must of been sitting there to become that stale and when last year was it cooked. Another big one was the quality of the salmon, ordered a New York hand roll. Was handed a very unappetizing mushy handful of rice with a single piece of salmon in it with some mushed up avocado in it wrapped in seaweed. Salmon is my favorite fish, and when I think of eating salmon nigiri I think of a buttery texture that melts in your mouth. Not here at Trappers in Covington. The first bite into that hand roll the onr piece of salmon came out in one mangled piece and I really had to chew it to get it down. Was left with a handful of rice with some smeared avocado on it and a feeling that I was positive there was no way I didn't just eat a tapeworm or get food poisoning in some capacity After this I felt like I couldn't get out of the door any faster, just disgusted. Was with my girl, in all we had 2 rolls, a hand roll and a couple beers. $75 because they lock you into the all you can eat price at the start. Quality of the fish and ingredients was awful. Rice must be made with something that makes it heavy, possibly sugar? Dunno but anybody with half a brain could tell they overdo it on the rice on purpose to get you out of the door. Skill of the chef(cringe for me to use that word) was very lazy, rolls looked like garbage. Felt terrible the rest of the day. We go out of our way to go to this Trapper's even though the Bonney lake one is closer. We get great service 90% of the time and have been coming to this particular one for 6+ years. I have never had a problem needing to alter or leave off items when ordering (we only eat at the sushi bar as we get the all-you-can-eat). They do have one of the if not the smallest sushi bar out of all the the other Trapper locations and there tends to be a wait, but we have found it is worth it read more

Came here today for the first time with hubby & my brother. Bro had been here twice before & we have been to their sister restaurant Sushi Town in Bonney Lake once before. Trappers has a better atmosphere than Sushi Town. Modern Decor with clean bathrooms. All the staff we interacted with were great! Hostesses/waitresses pretty & nice. Sushi chefs were friendly & accommodating & quick with keeping the rolls coming. Best rolls in our opinion are:Mountain, Rainbow, Bonney Lake, Trapper & Alaska. Sushi available in Nigiri form too. Seared Albacore fantastic! We live North of the U.W. and will definitely make the drive back down to Covington to go there again. read more

This is the best Sushi place hands down period. It's a bit expensive, but then again it's worth it. I always come here for the "All you can eat" Sushi. They make the sushi right in front of you so it's very fresh. There are so many rolls to choose from that it gets hard to pick sometimes. I can eat about 4 rolls max until my stomach blows up. I always try to eat more but it seems impossible for me. Most of the rolls are very good with the exception of a few rolls such as the Spider roll. I struggled to finish that thing. I remember ordering Spider rolls at other sushi places and it was awesome. I just don't know why Trapper can't make good Spider rolls. Everything else though, is excellent. Some of the rolls have way too much Mayo and if you're full, that will definitely get you sick. Every time I leave this place I end up hating food and sushi. However, the next day I start to crave it like crazy. This always happens. They have military discount here so just keep that in mind for some discount. I definitely recommend this place. For the 1-2 stars out there, you must be crazy! But then again, you can't please everybody and you're entitled to your own opinions. read more

So me and my daughter Ate here after our Appointment. I was disappointed when we got our Sushi. I've eaten Sushi at Downtown Kent Station. But I must say it's nothing compare. The food we got looks like it was rush, and been sitting out for awhile and portion was not as big as usual. I have to say I don't think I'll be eating at this Trapper's anytime soon. Fours stars mainly because our food came out really slow while we see everyone else gets the same food we ordered! We ordered 3 rolls since its their Monday special (3 rolls for 25 bucks) which I think is a good deal for me and my boyfriend. We also ordered one miso soup to share and hot sake plus complimentary edamame to munch on. We we're trying to eat slowly since we're waiting for our sushi rolls to come and we're just so hungry we ended finishing all of it (including our drink) and our rolls still didn't come. I don't know what took so long for it to come but it took over 20 mins for 3 rolls to come since it's not a super packed night as people come and go when we got there. I come to Trapper's all the time but, today I had to write a review because of the awesome service we had. Trapper's was pretty busy and understaffed, for a Saturday at lunch time. They had one server for the floor and one for the bar. James W. was our server and he was super pleasant, very apologetic that he couldn't touch on our table more often, and made sure that our food was everything we wanted. OK so when you're not from the area and you're #1 craving sushi and #2 you're just moments away from HANGRY ... you don't bother consulting Yelp, which I ALWAYS do, before you head into the closest sushi bar. We were quickly seated by a not overly warm hostess. Our waitress, Kasey, welcomed us and was super friendly and helpful. Here's the deal with sushi for my husband and I .... he wants all his fish cooked, think California roll, and I don't like spicy. Everything on this menu was spicy this or Sriracha that, what's a girl to do? I asked Kasey what she suggested and she said anything you want I can "un-spice" it for you! Perfect!! We decided on the Samantha Roll. Cooked fish and minus the spicy garlic sauce ... a perfect match for this wife and husband! So while our roll was being made I decided to look up the Yelp reviews and it stopped me. Three and a half stars?? Uh oh, what did we do? Hangry got the best of me and here we are and let's hope for the best! We'll let me tell you that I was super happy with our entire visit!! The service was great and the roll was scrumptious!!! Perhaps the length of time to get the roll was a bit long, it wasn't super busy and there were at least 4 or 5 chefs at the bar and it still took at least 20 minutes to get our roll but i find that normal at sushi bars. I love sushi and I needed to find a good place to get my sushi fix. I wanted to originally come here for the all you can eat sushi deal but the sushi bar was full so we ended up sitting at the table. I ended up getting another special or 2 rolls for 13.95 of the trapper and Timmy. They were pretty good but it wasn't anything special. We also ordered the Vader and the willis. Sushi is decent. Tried several sushi places in the area but this one has the best value for quality that I've found. They have lots of deals like daily happy hour and other specials. But the service is quite slow. Also, it's the only sushi place I've ever been to that seems to only employ white people. Bit odd seeing 4 white people behind the sushi bar. This is probably not the place to come to if you're looking for authenticity or atmosphere. But the rolls taste good. The service can be extremely slow though. The other night it took literally 40 minutes for our 3 rolls to arrive after we ordered them, and the place wasn't even full. The server pretty much ignored us the entire time. We also were waiting forever for her to pick up our credit card so we could pay and finally leave. Waited and waited and tried to catch her attention and finally gave up and threw cash down and left. Thankfully we even had cash. She was one of the worst servers I've ever had. We'll eat here again but only for take out. read more

We have been going to Trappers for several years. Unfortunately we may have to stop coming here at all. The quality is definitely decreasing and the orders are messed up about 60% of the time. They often either put the order in wrong or forget a roll or miscount the final order. The rolls themselves often have poor presentation and chewy or browned ingredients. They also frequently fail to cut through the whole roll, leaving the bottom still attached. Sharper knives or try harder? I hate to write a negative review but we've given them the benefit of the doubt for too long. For such a pricey treat we expect a higher standard of food and service. read more

The sushi rolls are pretty good and they have a wide variety. This is their specialty. Ordered the Tempura Shrimp Vegetable dinner. Came with cucumber salad in ponzu sauce, was ok but woud have liked to see a mixture of lettuce and tomato. The Miso soup was a little waterery so flavor only had a slight miso flavor. The presentation of the dinner plate was on chopped cabbage. Would have like to see it on shredded cabbage and the chop just look like it was thrown on. The tempura was ok but served with teriyaki sauce. Mixup with the staff. The owner manager came over and appoligized and gave us free fried ice cream. Was ok but a little doughie. Fried ice cream is hard to make and serve without melting the ice cream. Glad we had a chance to meet one of the owner's whose Brother, Trapper, started the business. If you don't want to read a long-ish review, here's a TLDR preview for you: will never visit this location again. If you're thinking about visiting this location yourself, just don't. Drive all the way to Kent or all the way to Bonney Lake for that matter - save yourself from this Trapper's. Honestly. Pros: They have beer. Cons: Just about everything. I personally didn't like this location from the get go because of how small it was, but that's minor. My boyfriend & I sat at the sushi bar, but we were seated wayyy at the end away from the chef, so trying to put in any sort of order during all you can eat wasn't working out because she wasn't paying attention to us at all. I'm convinced that they literally hired this chef like 10 minutes before we came in because she was terrible. The rolls were terribly made, falling apart, and one of my rolls came with Sriracha when I know damn well it's not supposed to (I order the Skywalker like every other week, don't try and play me). I shit you not when I say I'm sitting about 5 feet away from the waitresses and the rest of the Trapper's crew and when my roll was up, I heard the waitress try and correct the chef about the Sriracha being on there but then she was just like, "Oh I'll just drop it off and see if she notices." Girl, I did. I did notice. But I didn't have them remake it, it's whatever. BUT when I started to try and eat it, I realized the roll wasn't even cut? I literally just had one long ass sushi roll? So I sent it back to have it cut, and the chef was like, "Oh man, that's like the second time I've done that today!" ... Get it together. So that happened, and then right after that happened, I saw the chef pass a roll with tempura crumbs on it to the waitress and the waitress was like, "Oh, there's not supposed to be any crumbs on there - the customer is gluten free and what if they have an allergic reaction or something?" The chef straight up said, "Oh she won't notice." ARE YOU KIDDING ME. Sure enough, the couple sent that roll back and they tried to act all shocked like they didn't know it had tempura crumbs on it. The whole time we were seated at the sushi bar, I literally listened to all of the employees talk about mistakes they knew they were making. Pro tip: Maybe do that... Like... Away from the customers? Just an idea, but that's just me. Additionally, they messed up on the prices for us and didn't give us correct HH prices. We didn't say anything, buttttt we noticed. So, yeah. This Trapper's sucks. My sushi TASTED great, but the complete lack of attention to detail and customer service here sucks. You'll get better service and probably the right order at the McDonald's down the street. read more

Two bad experiences with this trapper's location within weeks, both were take out orders. The first one was an order that was supposed to be done in 30 min and was finally ready after over an hour of waiting and me checking several times with the clearly inexperienced staff at the front desk. I finally asked to talk to the manager, who apologized and gave a 10% discount- got the order home, no soy sauce, wasabi or ginger added. 2 weeks later we ordered again, again was supposed to be done in 30 min- my daughter was picking up this time, after she checked with the girls at the front desk after an hour it turned out they gave her order to someone else! Food here is better than average, service is average. HOWEVER, they mess up to go orders almost EVERY SINGLE TIME I ORDER. NOTHING has ever been correct. They have apologized, offered an extra dish, but NEVER a refund until I finally demanded one tonight (and only on the items that were made incorrectly or missing). I do not understand how this restaurant operates with getting the orders incorrect the majority of the time. My husband has had to drive back with no other options given by the restaurant countless times. GET YOUR ORGANIZATION IN ORDER. This is the LAST time I will be ordering from you.
