Was excited to dine in until I saw the lack of proper infection control. It ruined my meal witnessing the servers wearing non-compliant masks that don't stay on their faces. Our server pulled his mask up 16 times and never sanitized once during our visit. The other server ran his hands thru his hair and another ran around the restaurant with a phone in his hand. These are all huge violations of cleanliness even without a pandemic. Fortunately I couldn't observe how the rolls were being prepared, although at least one chef was wearing the pull up style mask. These are not effective and highly discouraged by the cdc. Keep your hands off your face/nose and hair while serving food!! Cross contamination at it's best...your customers are watching!! read more

I'm typically not a huge fan of 'fusion' sushi joints, but my friend in Kent dragged me out here insisting I try this place for lunch. I was quite happy with this one. It's hard to find much to complain about when you get pig out on a coma-inducing binge with the all-you-can-eat specials. Attractive food for price ratio aside, I do think some of the rolls are too sauce-heavy and completely obscure the taste of the sushi ingredients themselves. The way the stuffing on the Timmy roll is made, for example, makes it impossible for me to tell what is actually in it. Once it enters my mouth all I can process is some kind of mayonnaise-protein-slaw mix with a rice and seaweed wrap. The seaweed they use is also bland and only adds texture and the rice isn't as springy-fresh-tangy as I'd like, so it's really the sauce that overpowers the mouth-feel / taste / impression. I decided to pig out and have 4 rolls and 1/2 of another roll a friend was having. The more 'authentic' ones like the standard tuna+avocado roll was decent, and they are very generous with the sizes. The tobiko on the rolls were also nice and fishy-tasting. The hand roll I had was gigantic and not tightly rolled, so I had a really hard time dipping it and trying to shove parts in my mouth with the chopsticks without dropping a load of rice and tobiko on my lap. The 'Budda' roll was my favorite, but I really had to wipe off some of the sweet and sour sauce they dumped on top as it was a bit much. Service was friendly, but had a very 'wassup bro' American flair. Maybe a little too friendly and casual for what I'm used to in a sushi joint (where somber old Japanese men prepare and compose themselves super-professionally and in silence). Trappers....aka the Applebees of sushi restaurants!! What does that mean? Well, take any Applebees and compare their flavor and quality to umm.....John Howie Steak House. Which would you choose for a great meal? Someone told me they liked Trappers because of their sushi. So, I visited Trappers with an open mind and took two of my friends who are aficionados of sushi. Our first reaction was, "Wow, such substandard sushi bordering on insulting!" I poked around the sushi roll I ordered. The sushi was not tightly wrapped (which is a telltale sign someone who is inexperienced made the sushi) and it was not real fresh. Secondly, we ordered their tempura veggies. Deep fried in oil---well, they got that part correct, but where was the panko breading?? They obviously did not coat the veggies in flour enough, nor the raw egg so the Panko could stick. We basically ate veggies that were oily without any real breading on them. Ick! I'd say their sushi is comparable to sushi found at any Safeway store, but certainly not the sushi you would find at places like, "I Love Sushi" in Lake Bellevue. Plus, if you are going to go this route of Trapper's "quality", you may as well go to Gengki Sushi and pay a lot less for the same quality. read more

After having a great experience in Trappers at Kent Station, we felt secure in visiting the Covington restaurant for a birthday dinner. Wrong! This property is noisy, floor was filthy, staff was more interested in talking between themselves and then give a totally unbelievable story as to why they can't serve alcohol. Fish was so-so, some seemed that it has been out too long and we didn't eat it. Rice was improperly cooked and fell apart immediately. Will not be back. read more

I know a couple of my friends won't agree but I'm just not that into this place. Been here a couple times now and the rolls are too big and too pricey. When I eat sushi I like to try a variety of rolls and here you just can't do that. All the rolls are around $8 or more and so large that I can only eat two, maybe three if I'm super hungry. Now the taste is good, I wouldn't say great but it's not bad. They do have quite a variety and some pretty unique rolls, I just wish they made the rolls a lot smaller so I could try a bunch of different ones to figure out what I like. Maybe they need a sampler platter or something. Anyway... I will say that the staff is pretty friendly, especially to my Reno friends, since apparently that's where everyone who works here is from. My friends really love this place, especially since they have "crystal shrimp" so I'm sure I'll be back with them but for me Sushi Me in Bellevue is where it's at when I'm craving sushi! read more

I am Japanese, to be more specific; I am Japanese-American, that being said; I am not an expert on Japanese foods - I just know what I like. Sushi is Japanese; 'su' which means vinegar and 'shi', I believe, comes from another Japanese word 'me-shi' for cooked rice. Therefore, sushi is cooked rice blended with vinegar. The vinegar adds few more days of shelf-life to the rice, especially for travelers in old Japan who traveled from town to town, mostly on foot. So how does the raw fish come into the picture? I don't know . . . like I said at the start; I am not an expert on Japanese foods. Most authentic Sushi Bars will serve vinegared rice for their Sushi, but not at Trapper's. Trappers cater mostly to the American taste. I like Trapper's. Trapper is, I believe, Hispanic. Sushi is Japanese - so what? There's Koreans running Teriyaki Restaurants as well as Sushi Bars . . . for those who didn't know, Teriyaki is also Japanese - not Korean. I've been told - Trapper has a brother-in-law who happens to be Japanese and he owns or operates a Shush place in Japan. That's where Trapper learned how to make sushi. I like Trapper's. I've been to the ones in Covington and Bonny Lake. The servers are friendly and the chefs are knowledgeable enough for the Americans. People talk about cut-backs . . . we are all in a recession, everyplace is cutting down where they can; it is a place of business after all. I recommend Trapper's. Do the Sushi Bar (all-you-can-eat) and try their special Maki Zushi (rolled sushi or as they call it 'long' rolls), they're all delicious. Nigiri Zushi (fresh fish, or cooked, on a ball of rice) are a favorite of mine, they are also included in the all-you-can-eat. read more

Great options for kids- the chicken tenders (or whatever they are called there) are actually really good, which means the whole family is happy! Yes - the rolls are more "Americanized" but dang they are delicious. I have yet to find a roll that I don't like. If I were asked to choose a favorite... I just couldn't. They are all so different and I enjoy the variety. If you get a chance to sit at the bar, it is THE best place to be. You get to interact with the chefs and get their opinions and suggestions for a new roll to try. You will also get the best service here. On the nights that they are really busy, make sure to order your next roll before you finish the one in front of you or you might end up waiting a few. We ordered takeout for valentines day and half of our rolls arrived with no fish. When I called the letting them know about the issue and asking for a refund, I was told that the restaurant ran out of fish. I asked why orders were sent out with no fish, the person I spoke with had no response. I was told my order couldn't be refunded as it was purchased through UberEats and when I asked for a gift card I was told they couldn't do that either. First and last time here. Ok location, somewhat tucked back. Small restaurant, 97 occupancy. Tyler, our server was very nice. You could tell he was busy. Our service was slow, but they were somewhat busy, not packed or slammed. We waited a LONG time for 2 rolls. No appetizers...just rolls. Almost 2 drinks in before we got food. Rolls poorly made, they fell apart when you tried to pick them up or were all stuck together and you had to rip them apart and they still come all undone. I was very disappointed with the food and the service at Trappers. The hostess was very nice but our server was rather stiff. He only asked what we wanted to order and then gave us our check when we were done; no other social interaction. The food was also not very good (and was rather expensive). I will applaud them on having a very expansive menu, but the descriptions were not very clear. My boyfriend and I ordered some gyoza as an appetizer and then he had the Alaskan roll and I ordered the Mt. Rainier roll (if I remember the name correctly). The gyoza were pretty tasty, but they were fried and I like mine steamed. The sauce was not very good (and not very tasty for people who hate onions like my boyfriend since it was covered with green onions). The description of the Alaskan roll said it had salmon and crab in it, but the crab was imitation (my boyfriend knows it was since he works at a place that produces imitation crab). After about 5 of the rolls, he couldn't eat anymore because the imitation crab was making him feel sick. I tried one and did not like it. The Mt. Rainier roll had salmon, avocado and cream cheese. The salmon was not chilled so it makes me wonder about the quality of their fish (and their storage practices). The rolls were rather large for me since I have a small mouth, and it didn't help that the rice was very chewy. It was not very appetizing. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone unless they don't care about the quality or the price of the sushi. I suggest taking the extra 10-15 minutes and driving to Sushi Kuine on Gowe St. in Kent, which has much better sushi for a much better price (and he drives at least once a day to go pick up fresh fish; he picks it out and makes it himself too!) read more

I love coming here for sushi. We always receive great service. I've had everything from the long rolls to the sashimi and have never been disappointed till recently. We recently came in for lunch and did the 2 rolls for $13.95. I have to say I was disappointed about the portion sizes. It was 95% rice and 5% filling on the Buddha roll. I expect smaller portions with lunch specials but not that extreme. Next time, I would rather pay full price to get a better portion of filling. Other than that, we love coming here. I love that they are very active in the community with raffles to benefit various charities. read more

I dined here with a couple of friends for the all-you-can eat dinner; one of their daily specials. For what's it worth, the price for the quality of food is fair. There is a large selection of large sushi rolls, piled high with more seafood and nigiri that is freshly crafted when ordered. The service here is courteous and the sushi chef will comply the customers' request promptly despite the large volume of orders. Aside from my positive experience here, I don't know if I want to come back, especially since they have opened a new branch in Kent Station instead of Covington. As much as I like eating sushi, the all-you-can eat aspect is only worth it if you have a large appetite or if you are on the brink of starvation with the prospect of eating every kind of fish, crustaceans, or shellfish available at an affordable price. Just tried Trapper Sushi for the first time. The atmosphere was great, the service was friendly without being annoying. The sushi was terrific and the prices were pretty good. After we ordered one of the five sushi chefs came over and asked us how we were and what we ordered. He asked if we'd be interested in trying their signature roll since we hadn't ordered it. He brought us out four pieces and it was delicious. We also had the Mt. Rainer, Smurf, Firecracker and Willis rolls. The only roll I wouldn't order again is the Willis because it was sweeter then I like my sushi but everything was still very good. read more

Most of the food here is tasty. If you don't like "Americanized" sushi, you will hate it. But some of the rolls are very good despite their blatant disregard for Japanese tradition. Problem is, the service is terrible. Some of the servers were very nice, but most of them looked cranky or confused. They were either moving really slow and looked like they hated their job, or they were moving super fast and carelessly bumping into everyone. Not a pleasant atmosphere. I've been in western WA for eight years and this is the first sushi place I've found with an AYCE special. YAY! It's fairly Americanized (lots of specialty rolls involving tempura, as opposed to just high-quality nigiri) but tasty. And the value is spot-on. The selection of rolls if much larger than I expected, and they have a good selection of sake, beer and non-sushi foods as well. Is it the best sushi place I've ever been to? Nope. Is it better than Blue C and other sushi-go-round places I've tried? Absolutely. Also, you can't beat the sushi chef service- be prepared for guys with a wicked sense of humor, waiters who are on the ball with refilling waters and answering questions, and a staff that doesn't give you the stink-eye for being the last ones in the restaurant. We'll definitely be coming back often. (also, the squid nigiri is amazingly buttery and delicious!) read more

I've been to Trappers Sushi 3 times for the all you can eat lunch. This is what happens when you totally Americanize the Japanese food. The all you can eat is bit of a bargain but it may not be what you are use to. They have their own recipes and it is a bit different for good or bad. Service is a hit and miss. 0 Star for Teriyaki / 3 or 4 Star for Fast-Food Sushi Ordered the Chicken Teriyaki and a sushi roll roll. Service was good: The gentleman behind the sushi bar asked how I was doing, etc. No complaints there. The rice not up to what I'm used to (too "molded"), but for fast food sushi it's okay. I saw what others were eating as part of their all-you-can-eat deal and it looked really good. My chicken teriyaki arrived. For the $6-ish I was not expecting much and what I got was pretty dreadful tasting: Way overcooked chicken cubes (?) that were very dry and chewy with hardly any sauce. With no sauce the so-so white rice (along with a little veggie garnish or maybe it was a salad) left much to be desired. My biggest complaint is targeted squarely at the chicken teriyaki and accompanying sauce (mostly the lack thereof in quantity and taste). Quantity was okay, but this teriyaki qualifies as the WORST I've ever had. I was pretty hungry, so added a lot of hot sauce and just finished up the chicken the best I could, left the rice, and left dissatisfied with my meal. Trapper's Sushi is ABOVE average for the fast-food style sushi if you're in Covington, WA. It's not authentic by any means but relatively good fast-food small-town sushi. My teriyaki experience will ensure that I never order anything but sushi from their menu in the future. Hard to feel ripped off for $6 teriyaki, but they managed to do it. Which is a pity, because I'd tentatively recommend it for the fast-food style all-you-can-eat sushi based on my limited sampling. read more

This restaurant is great. Great sushi chefs, really fun guys. Reading some of the reviews makes me laugh because some rolls take longer than others. Some are deep fried, and if it is a busy night, they can only move so quick. Some are heated with a torch (the Trump, which is a fantastic roll, by the way). If you are coming in and in a rush, this may not be the place for you. But if you have an hour to sit and enjoy your meal and have a conversation with the chefs at the bar... have at it! But the seating is horrible and the tables are too small for the size of the plates they give you. Also the hot tea was steeped too long... If I were to rate Trapper's on their food alone, this review would be a five star one, hands down. I'd say the menu has a definite "fusion" flavor to it, but there are many traditional offerings as well. Every single thing I have ever eaten here has been simply delicious. If anything can ruin an experience, however, it's the service. DH and I have eaten at Trapper's no less than fifty times since it first opened, and the service is nearly always sub-par at best; occasionally it's downright atrocious. There have been more than a few times one of us have commented upon leaving "if the food here wasn't so amazing, we wouldn't come back after this." It has gotten better over the past year (there seem to be fewer inexperienced/High School-age servers on the floor than in the past, so I'm not sure if that's made a difference?), and while I wouldn't recommend it to some of my less-than-patient friends, I'll continue as a "regular" while the food quality remains excellent. read more

I have been here twice for the all you can eat special. The first time was good, not great but my wife and I had fun watching the chef's. The second time was awesome, I was with a large group of coworkers that love sushi and we had a great chef and a great time eating until we were full. After purchasing a house in Covington, I had to find a decent place for sushi. This place is always very friendly and welcoming when I go here. It is rather small though, so Friday and Saturday nights can be rather crowded. The Sushi is pretty good, but not great. It is easy to see that the the Sushi chefs are just 20something white kids that just have fun, but don't take pride in their work like some of the other places. Honestly overall I did not like the sushi at Trappers. Now I understand that this is very Americanized sushi and that is what they are going with the menu but the quality was just not that good. The sushi rice which is a VERY important part of sushi was mushy and just did not seem fresh. It made the whole roll very sub par and not something I would like to try again. One of the rolls we had was a tempura one and it just did not go very well with the other flavors. I don't remember which roll it was specifically. I also had the tempura ice cream here, now that seemed fine, but it also was sub par. I understand that getting tempura ice cream right can be difficult. But I have had much better homemade tempura ice cream. If you haven't had tempura ice cream before I would try it here just because its so good overall but just keep in mind that its not the best here and would definitely try it somewhere else. The service was okay, server seemed nice, didn't really pay any attention to us. If there was nowhere else to go for sushi I would come here but overall I personally would try to avoid this place. Basically I didn't hate it completely. It is worth trying for yourself to see if you like it just don't have high expectations. But for me, seeing as how there is a much better sushi place pretty close I will definitely not be returning anytime soon.
