The sushi at Trappers is excellent. I usually get great service as well. But the last couple of times we went the service was not good. Tonight it was busy and I get it, it takes awhile to get your order when they are busy. It took awhile but they brought out the teriyaki that one of our party of three ordered. He waited a bit to start to see if the other orders were coming out. Our waitress didn't say anything about the other orders or stop by to check on us, so we finally told him just to go ahead and eat so it didn't get cold. Over half an hour later our other two orders came out. His turn to watch us eat. Our waitress did not stop by our table during this whole wait period. We had ordered a to go order also that we asked to have come out with the bill. We had to remind our waitress about it. We finished our order and waited another 25 minutes for our to go order. But it did not show up and there was no updates from the waitress. We finally left to go grocery shopping and came back for our to go order when we were done shopping. Waitress never asked this whole time if any of us wanted a drink refill. It was disappointing. But again the food is excellent and usually well worth waiting for. It is too bad that the service has not been up to the same standards. read more

AND IT WAS AMAZING The Asparagas roll was bomb.com (i only like rolls with tempura) all their tempura rolls were amazing, Their Spider roll was DELICIOUS and my gril said all the raw rolls were so fresh and didnt smell or anytjhing. I freaking love this place. I always sit up where I can watch the chefs work their magic. Now that I am pregnant, I can't get my favorite anymore: the Jaysen handroll. I would def. suggest it and a ton of other selections. They have good beers and a fun little staff that's pretty entertaining to listen to banter and joke with each other as they work. The atmosphere is VERY laid back. I have been with the worst hangover in my sweats twice and not felt out of place. Judgement free zone, lol. I was looking for a quick teriyaki and sushi roll fix and thought about giving this place a try. I'm new to the area and haven't heard of Trapper's before. I won't be getting food from them again. The teriyaki was atrocious. Generally, if you go to a good teriyaki place, you'll get tender strips of meat generously doused in a thick, sweet teriyaki sauce. I have been to a handful of great teriyaki restaurants in the Olympia area and never have I ran into the quality that I found at Trapper's. It looked like (and texture-wise felt like) overcooked and dried out cuts of chicken breast. The taste reminded me of Kikkoman's thin, salty bottled teriyaki sauce. It was not sweet and it was too salty. This chicken teriyaki at Trapper's reminded me of the time I tried to make chicken teriyaki at home. Whoever was cooking that night was as bad of a cook as I am. I also picked up a California roll. It was just plain mediocre. Not bad, but nothing to write home about, that's for sure. I was so turned off by the quality and taste, I definitely would not recommend Trapper's Sushi. They rely heavily on tempura shrimp and their rolls are heavy on the rice but are still pretty good. They've got an all-you-can-eat sushi deal which works out well if you eat more than 3 rolls (sashimi not included. 1 specialty roll included). The chef staff are friendly and might even throw you a sushi salad on the house if you're lucky. Good staff, ambiance, location. 80% of their rolls contain tempura shrimp. I'd like to see more creativity on their menu. They're capable of it. Good alcohol selection. read more

I'm really pretty ticked off with my service the other night in Covington. I called in an order at about 5:45pm and was told it would be about 15 to 20 minutes, no problem. I got there about 6:05 and was told they were waiting on one item, again no problem. After another 10 minutes, I asked about and was told it was coming out soon. Finally at 6:25 they looked through the order for the 5th or 6th time and realized it was there the whole time. Almost 45 minutes for an order only to find it was there the whole time??? Bad form! The ladies at the desk didn't seem to have a clue and were running around like chickens with their heads cut off. How about getting some order behind that counter please. I've been coming to this Trapper's for several years now and it seems like each time I come it gets a little worse in service and food. The guys behind the bar have the worst attitude. The guy covered in tattoos looks like he's cracked out. He's just acting really weird likes he's high. The preparation of the rolls are just sloppy. We love this place! We've been making the trek to Bonney Lake from Covington to eat this sushi and are ecstatic that they opened one in Covington! So delicious. I am not a sushi aficionado by any means - so I can't judge if this is the best or most authentic sushi in the world. That said, I absolutely LOVE the Mountain and the Mount Rainier rolls, and pretty much everything else I've tried there. Compared to many other places I've sampled around here, Trappers food seems quite fresh and delicately flavored. On that alone I would have given them five stars. The service in the dining room on the other hand ruins the whole experience. The girls are terribly inconsistent and seem to be barely able to contain their desire to be rude. Basically quit taking my girlfriend there about a month ago because it makes her so mad (she's been in customer service for most of her career and has a hard time patronizing places that don't provide it), My recommendation would be to avoid the dining room, sit at the bar and try the mountain rolls - they are delicious. read more

I'm not a huge sushi fan but this place is so good that we went there two weeks in a row - unheard of in our family.

My boyfriend and I have been here more times than we can count. We'd be going everyday for their 11-4 All You Can Eat if we could. It's cheaper on Thursdays ;). We always end up getting about 8-10 rolls between the two of us. Our favorite rolls are the Timmy for an entree and the Buddha for dessert. They have some other great rolls, too, but I don't like getting filled up without having my fill of my faves! read more

My absolute favorite sushi place. The all-you-can eat is a really good deal and lets you try a bunch of different things for not too much money. My wife has several food allergies, and the staff was very helpful in pointing out potential problems and/or preparing sushi around her allergies. If you are gluten intolerant, I'd recommend this place. They carry G-Free soy sauce and can specially prepare some dishes to avoid wheat products. read more

Friends of ours brought us to Trapper's early last year and we have been going ever since! It has become our sushi addiction restaurant. This is a family owned business and they make you feel like family by coming by and asking how you are and what else they can do for you. Everyone is very jovial and ready for a laugh. I every time we go to Trapper's the food is fresh and outstanding. There is so much variety to choose from, whether you love sushi or just want to try it out. The service is prompt and attentive. Cannot say enough about this place...just simply amazing! Trapper's has fast become our family's choice for eating out and special occasions. The staff is friendly, courteous, and makes you feel 'at home' in their restaurant. The sushi chefs are fast, knowledgable, and will 'customize' your roll to your palatte's desire. Brought my sister from Hawaii here and she said it was better than any sushi place in Hawaii!!! Now THAT'S saying something about their FRESH seafood!!! Everything from their seaweed and squid salad ( all made in house of course ), to their teriyaki sauce ( saw them cooking it up tonight as a matter of fact ), this restaurant prides themselves on the 'made it here' and it did not come from a bottle or freezer!!!! I'd like to share a bad experience with the service at Trappers. The Food is fine. In fact, my wife and middle son are regulars. When they go, they sit at the bar and chat with the sushi chefs. But for my wife's birthday, she wanted the whole family to go. So I went along, as did my 16 year old, sushi hating daughter. If you DON"T like raw fish, the menu is light. No bento box. There is teriyaki chicken, and I've had it before, and it really sucks, so I wasn't about to suggest that for my daughter. But my wife wanted the whole family together. So we stopped off at Burger King and got a sandwich and fries for my daughter. The other four of us (five people total) were going to eat Sushi. We got to the restaurant in two cars. My wife, her friend, and my son, were already seated when my daughter and I arrived, toting a bag from Burger king. We joined their table. We were very aware of how it "looks" to eat the food of one restaurant in another restaurant. My daughter was very subtle. Her fries were in her lap and her sandwich remained wrapped in the bag. She even ordered a little food. Normally, restaurants overlook a little food from other restaurants when there is are lots of orders, as there were from our table, but not at Trappers. Trappers staff freaked out. The first person to come up was a hostess who told us that there cannot be outside food. My daughter placed the bag on the floor with her sandwich and stopped eating. But that wasn't enough. Two more waitresses came up in succession and complained about the bag HIDDEN UNDER THE TABLE. "We will get in trouble if you bring in outside food." My 16 year old daughter had to flee the table to sit in the car in order to eat. This is after everyone at the table ordered a roll (Including a California Roll and Miso Soup for my daughter). I've never had a restaurant be so intolerant before. We've had to occasionally do this over the years with dozens of restaurants in many places, and there has NEVER been a problem like this one before. The staff was PARANOID. As I mentioned, we are regulars. Only the staff changes at the Covington location so frequently (they must have a 90 day turnover rate or shorter), no one working on the floor tonight recognized us. I kid you not: we've spent over $1500 at Trappers in the past year, not including the $95 we spent tonight. I'm sure my wife and son will keep going back, but for family celebrations, we are never returning to Trappers. Not if they are going to treat regulars with such disrespect. read more

I want to start off by saying the service was great. We were greeted and seated immediately upon entering the restaurant, and all the food came out quickly. We started with a gyoza appetizer, which was deliciously crunchy and came with a great sauce. However, I had the chicken teriyaki for lunch, and was very disappointed with it. For $7, I expect more than 6 thin strips of sad, limp chicken. There was absolutely no color on the meat at all, and it tasted like it hadn't been cooked thoroughly enough -- it wasn't even hot. The side cucumber salad was okay, but there was entirely too much of it, especially when compared to the actual meal. You don't really want a whole cup full of cold, sesame seed-coated cucumber when you're expecting a delicious chicken teriyaki. I would have personally preferred getting my sides at the same time as my meal. The ratio of rice to chicken was also very flawed, as the there was way too much rice for the very sad portion of chicken. The plate itself actually looked empty, and if not for the unneccessary lettuce leaf and lemon slice added on the side, the plate would have been basically empty. The one saving grace was the sauce, which was delicious, if not a little watery for a teriyaki sauce. I was disappointed that there was no sauce on the tables aside from soy sauce, because I didn't get nearly enough. The restaurant wasn't busy at all, so there's no excuse for the chicken that came out. If you're looking for sushi, Trapper's is a decent place to go. But if you're looking for anything else, you'll get better quality and quantity for your dollar looking elsewhere. read more
