We came here upon recommendations of a friend. He'd been in Firenze just the week before. Anyway, 4Leoni is located in a quite little square on the south side of the Arno. This square is a mecca for food! Not only does it house this gem but also the best gelateria in Italia (possibly the world) and a very tasty pizza joint. The outdoor seating was a boon as our insanely hyper toddler would not sit still. My wife and I took turns eating and running after pigeons with the crazy toddler. Our waiter was very knowledgeably, friendly and spoke great english. Onto the food! Do order the house Chianti because that's what the locals would do. We had the following amazing dishes: Pear ravioli w asparagus & Spaghetti w clams (spaghetti al vongole). The star dish was the Ossobucco! Incredibly executed with moistness and flavor. We also had the Bruschetta alla pomodoro which was ok. Come here for lunch and you're good. If it's dinner time, be sure to make a rezzie. Buon appetito!! read more

I have been raving about this place since the first time I went 5 years ago. So when I return to rome 5 years later, I convince my partner to take a day trip to Florence, mostly so I can show him how delicious the Florentine steak is. And it was. Unfortunately I was sick and could barely eat the steak, but he enjoyed the other 800g of that 1kg steak. He also had the house wine which he said he enjoyed. The only annoying part is that they charge you a 3 euro cover charge / service per person, which is stated on their menu so full disclosure is there on their part. But still, some people get surprised by that. We went around 5pm so we could go back to Rome early. The service was only okay. The restaurant was relatively empty, as you can imagine, for eating at that time. But when I had originally made a reservation for later that day, they had been fully booked but tried to fit me in anyway. Turns out we didn't end up using the reservation but I appreciated that they tried. Anyway, despite the few ups and downs of that experience, I really enjoyed it and when I return maybe in another 5 years, I will be definitely going back! (steak was 45 euros) read more

We ate here twice on our trip to Florence and had very good experiences both times and a particularly great experience on our firs trip thanks to our waiter, Bajram. He spent lots of time discussing the food with us and just sharing stories about his life working with food. On the first night I had the ribollita, a traditional dish from Florence and it was great. We were just walking around and couldn't figure out where to eat at and when we got here, the hostess asked if we had reservations and we did not. He said as long as we can be done by a certain time we can dine here and we said we can definitely do that. We started with a meat and bread dish that was very good. Visited the restaurant this past week. My friend and I were so looking forward to our 1st dinner out in the beautiful city of Florence! But the moment our server Andre saw us at the table he was emotion less and couldn't have made us feel more unwelcome. He was Rude and didn't want to be there and also didn't want us there as well. We would have walked out but this place had been recommended to us by a friend so we thought it can't be so bad. Andrea our server with a man bun didn't want to talk about the menu drinks,apps or there main dishes nothing. We ended up ordering a glass of wine and The pear pasta which they are know for that's it we would have ordered 1 bottle of wine at a minimum but he was just making our experience awful so finished our slightly warm pasta which was good but it wasn't hot at all! He never came to check on us order more wine nothing so we asked for the check and that was it. This server should be given a customer service pep talk. read more

My parents and I tried this restaurant based on the suggestion of our vacation rental host who was spot on with basically everything he recommended. We arrived for an early dinner at 6:00 despite not having made a reservation. We were greeted by unfriendly staff who made us feel like they were doing us a favor to seat us at a completely empty restaurant and informed us we only had 2 hours to dine. We started our experience by ordering bruschetta. Delicious tomatoes, on top of bread that tasted day old. With that said, even at other restaurants we loved, the bread in Florence seemed to be less fresh than other bread we ate in other parts of Italy. We also ordered a dish of Burrata and Chard which was quite tasty. For my main course I ordered a seasonal dish - Ravioli stuffed with Pear. It was 10 out of 10 delicious. Cream sauce, seasoning. It was a mind melt. My father ordered a plate of friend octopus and calamari which was also amazing. It was the most flavorful, lightly breaded dish of its sort I've had in my life. My mother ordered.a plate of lasagna. The lasagna was, for lack of a better word, flavorless. I tried it and agreed, it had no flavor, no seasoning, no salt. It was one of the most un-inspiring meals I've had in Italy in almost 10-years. With that said, my meal and my dad's what spectacular. I'm giving this restaurant 3 stars for the following reasons: -The staff and personality. So many people in Italy, especially in the restaurant business, are wonderful, welcoming, charming, charismatic people. These people were none of the above -I've never had a piece of lasagna (albeit not my order) this flavorless - that actually made me want to cry (in a negative way) in my life, let alone in Italy There's some other spectacular restaurants in the area that will knock your socks off, that are priced comparably, where the staff is welcoming. If you do eat here, listen to their recommendations and avoid the bruschetta and lasagna as you will be disappointed. Trattoria 4 Leoni - if you don't want to be hospitable, friendly, welcoming, I suggest you find another line of business like working for the government, or collecting debt. Please don't act like you're doing anyone a favor by seating Americans ready to spend 100+ euros when your restaurant that sits 100+ people has 6 patrons in it. Excellent dinner at 4 Leoni. The restaurant is large but intimate. Tables close but not too close. Very attentive service. This restaurant was recommended by a friend and we were glad we went. We started off with the complimentary glass of Prosecco which was a very nice welcome. We were lucky to order a 2010 Solare wine, an excellent year for Italian wines and this bottle didn't disappoint. We split the salumi appetizer, a nice assortment of salami, prosciutto, crostini with liver and pickled vegetables. Next we had the spinach gnudi with sage and butter - very flavorful but light! - and the linguine with white truffles, absolutely fantastic. We finished the night with coffee and tiramisu. This place was so quaint and wasn't too expensive at all! My friend & I binge-ate pasta this whole weekend so we had to share our last masterpiece. It is called "Fiocchetti di pera in salsa di taleggio e asparagi" which translates to "Pear flakes in taleggio cheese sauce & asparagus." Rating: 43/100 pts I came here after reading the numerous positive reviews from others, but I'm sad to report that I walked away feeling unimpressed by both the food and the service. I didn't have reservations, but was told my friend and I could be seated as long as we finish within an hour and a half. No problem, I thought. That's more than enough time. Although we ordered everything at the same time, it seems they had forgotten about us after bringing our appetizer, because a whole half hour went by until we realized no more of our food was coming. I had to snag our busy waitress to get her to check on our order, which came out soon after doing so. I didn't perceive this to be "foreigner discrimination" of any sort, but that our order genuinely fell into oblivion. They did make up for this by kindly revoking the time limit they'd placed on our table, which, at that point, was soon approaching. Aside from this, service felt rushed and largely unresponsive throughout the meal, and getting the attention of our waitress proved difficult. Anyhow, as far as food quality goes, I found the meal to be just OK. I ordered a Tuscan appetizer, which ended up coming with 2 types of cold cuts, chopped liver, and a crostini--the cuts were fine, but the liver was SUPER liver-y, and way too rich for me. (Though I'm not a fan of liver to begin with, so if you are, you may like it.) For our main dishes, we ordered Pici Pasta with Meat Sauce, and Grilled Chicken. The pasta itself was good, having a thicker texture than spaghetti, but the sauce was a little fatty for my taste. The chicken was thin, and overall rather unimpressive. For dessert, none of the traditional Italian dolci appealed to me, so I ended up going for the Portuguese-style flan. Unfortunately, it tasted bland, and texture was more rubbery than smooth. I am just so confused by everyone who loves this place. Honestly I hated the pear ravioli. I also ordered the lasagna which was really bad. Both dishes lacked SO MUCH flavor, I really did find them both bland. I love Italian food - for the fresh, simplicity of quality ingredients. Give me a bowl of fresh pasta with a simple fresh tomato sauce and I am sold! This place totally lacked this. I did like the setting of the place, the outdoor seating is a must if you do decide to go. Servers were slow but friendly. I just can't get over the food. Trattoria 4 Leoni is a lovely, delicious place to spend an evening. They have a beautiful patio in a cute little piazza (Piazza della Passera), but you'll likely have to make a reservation in advance to get a seat out there. It can be a little tricky to find...look for the piazza, not the street. The decor is understated and beautiful--high, wood-beamed ceilings, stone walls, brick arches, good lighting--a really nice backdrop for some great food. The service is, oddly, very American. Our server spoke great English, and our food came to the table in record time. Maybe because we're American? I would have been okay with a bit of a slower pace, but I won't complain because they food that did show up at the table in such a curiously short amount of time was distractingly delicious. Pasta were really tasty...I opted for the pear pasta (fiocchetti di pera), fresh ravioli filled with cheese and pear in a cream sauce with asparagus. Although I'm partial to the whole sweet-savory thing, I thought the flavors were well balanced--not too sweet, and the sauce was salty enough to make it work. The filet was super flavorful and cooked to perfection (rare). The spinach was delicious. The side of potatoes were acceptable, but nothing special. I'd recommend saving room for something else on the menu. They have some really inexpensive wine options...we ended up with a .5L carafe for €7, and it was a great complement to our meal. For dessert, we shared the cheesecake with berry compote, since everyone on Yelp seemed to be losing their minds over it. It was super light and not too sweet, which was nice. We were so lucky to find this gem in an area of very good restaurants, just away from the tourist area of Florence. Our waiter, Giuseppe, took the time to explain the Italian menu items to us, each sounding better than the next! We decided on a couple salads (amazing), the zucchini appetizer and the calamari, anchovies & shrimp tempura (this was too good to believe). Paired with the house red wine, our lunch was delicious and very reasonable in price. I would highly recommend making a reservation if possible as they are constantly busy with the local crowd and tables can be sparse if you just walk up, especially in the evening. We didn't have a reservation so we put our name in and came back a few hours later. We sat outside underneath the heat lamps because it was pretty nice out and we enjoyed watching the people in the adorable piazza. Our server was pretty attentive and helped us make meal decisions. We went for the pear ravioli, the bistecca fiorentina for two, and this egg dish with spinach and truffles. The egg dish was surprisingly good and not too heavy. The pear ravioli was tasty although a bit overhyped. When it was time for our steak, our server brought out our pre-cooked piece of meat which I thought was a nice touch. The steak was well-cooked and flavorful, but definitely not best that we had on our trip. Wine list is pretty good, and we overall had a very nice experience. If we were to go back, I'd say skip the steak and try more pasta dishes. Given all of our other meals in Florence, I would definitely say that this is one of the more touristy spots - everyone around us was speaking English (not that's indicative of a good or bad meal). read more

Our favorite restaurant in Florence. Great ambiance. We ate there twice. LOVE the cheesy ravioli with pear filling. (They don't call it ravioli in Italian). Mild cheese in the sauce resembled white cheddar or muenster. Enjoyed the warm salad "Insalata Tiepida D'Autu" with pumpkin, Brussel sprouts, purple cabbage and chestnuts. First time I tasted chestnuts and I love them! My husband loved this salad. I also had the Insalata 4 Leoni house salad with pine nuts and cubed mild cheese. Tasty and well balanced but not as unique as the above mentioned salad. Loved the biscotti with Vin Santo. The cheese cake with berry sauce was very homemade and not too sweet. I could have just shared the biscotti with my husband; there was more than enough biscotti and wine for both of us. Giussepe is an excellent, patient server whose English was a big help, since the menu is in Italian. I'm so glad I didn't let the lack of English menu deter me. read more

Walked in at lunch time on a Sunday to get a reservation for later that night. The staff was helpful and pleasant and put us down for a 9:30 table. Atmosphere: Gorgeous design using mostly natural elements: stone, brick, burlap, etc. Sexy dim lighting. They had holiday decorations up throughout, but they were super classy and added to the atmosphere. Food: - Insalata 4 Leoni: Unique salad of avocado, swiss cheese chunks, and pine nuts over fresh greens with an herb puree. A touch of balsamic vinegar jazzes it up nicely. - Fiocchetti: delicious pasta "purses" filled with taleggio cheese and pear served in a creamy sauce with asparagus. The contrast between the cheese and the sweet pear was absolutely delicious. I just wish there were a few more on the plate. - Melanzane Parmigiana: A successful dish, if a bit rich. The eggplant is unbreaded and is layered with basil and tomato sauce and cheese. - Tiramisu: Started out amazing, but got a little moist for my taste at the bottom. I regretted not getting the cheesecake which looked insanely good. Wine: The house red wine is a bargain at 9eur for a liter. Service: Pleasant, helpful, and around precisely when needed. Altogether this is a very intimate and beautiful place to spend an evening. This is a nice restaurant on a small piazza in an off the main stream part of Florence. We came here on a Saturday night and with a reservation, was able to be seated immediately. I never saw the interior as we were seated outside. The bread and service was good even though the restaurant was pretty full. We had the Fiocchetti, which is their pasta filled with Pear and Taleggio cheese. It was excellent. A decent sized portion of food. The house wine was cheap and good. My first experience in 2016 was awesome! Great customer service and the food was perfecto. Since then, they kind of fell off. Of course, the Pear Ravioli is still the same bomb dish, but that was the highlight of our dinner. My main complaint is about our server. I did't get his name, but I can describe him. He's about 6 feet tall, w/ grayish black long hair, and has a belly. He can also be seen smoking a cigarette outside the restaurant. For our app, we ordered the prosciutto, but we also wanted to add melon on the side. Our server told us they didn't have any melon, which was fine, until 5 mins. later, we see another server or busser carrying in 2 boxes of melons. Hmmm... Next we ordered still water, and having a party of 9, we went through 2 bottles pretty quick. We asked for more water, but he said "No." Wow, really? So we asked again, just so we weren't crazy, and he said "No, drink wine." The third time, we weren't having it, so we told him to bring it. When our bill came, he charged us for the more expensive wine. It was a few euros difference, but we didn't care, we just wanted to get out of there. One could argue Italian servers are a bit more cheeky, but being in Italy for two weeks we never came across a rude server. So to me, it seemed as if this server didn't care for tourists at all. My wife and I use to recommend 4 Leoni to everyone visiting Florence, but not no moe! There are so many other restaurants to choose from, with servers that want to be there. We drank their house wine and thought it was decent. The interior is well-designed and with that Italian rustic charm. After a certain time they dimmed the lights, turning it into a romantic spot. Go early (5:30-6:30) if you want to beat the crowds! Americans tend to eat dinner earlier than Europeans anyways, so when we walked in looking for a table at 6:30 there were only two other couples eating. The waiter said that they could seat us at a table then, but that it was reserved for 8:00.
