4 Leoni was in my top 5 dinner places during my trip to Italy. I highly recommended it to anyone visiting Florence. The locals love it and I can see why. The place is dimly lit, nice decor, and intimate. We were welcomed with big smiles. The service was attentive from the moment we sat until we walked out the door. Please order the Pear Ravioli. This dish is mouth-watering. I was sad as I watched each ravioli start disappearing. Pair this dish with a white vino and you are set for the night. This restaurant was recommended to me by a friend, and I tried twice to eat there when our travels led us to that side of town. Both times, the host was unkind in sharing they were full, almost laughing at the idea that we would want to eat there without a reservation. An Italian restaurant owner I met on this trip (who owns multiple restaurants in Florence) shared that there should always be an attitude of hoping to be able to seat someone to experience your food. The Pear Pasta was absolutely delicious. Kudos to the chefs working in the kitchen, they probably would be horrified if they saw the interactions between the people who serve their wonderful cuisine and their customers. The waitstaff could not be more judge mental and uninviting. A friend and I arrived around 8:30 for dinner- without reservations, but with low expectations of actually getting a table. However, when we asked for a table we were told they could only seat us at basically the worst table in the house, which was still fine because we were dying for the pear pasta that everyone raves about. The staff proceeded to basically rush us out of the restaurant, taking our drink and food order all at once & questioning our choices with "that's it?" My friends wine had dirt or leftover substances in it from a dirty wine glass, and when we showed one of the wait staff, she took the glass and gave us a dirty look when she thought we weren't looking. She did not give us another glass of wine either! Overall, the atmosphere was horrible, and we felt really really unwelcomed. We ended up getting charged 20 euro for a bottle of wine that was 12 euro, and were charged for bread we didn't ask for. The only reason I am giving it 2 stars is because the pasta was genuinely delicious- one of the best dishes I've had in Florence. If your looking for good food, with horrible service & high prices- this is a good spot. read more

Pretty tempted to give it 5 stars but I don't want to be THAT person who gives out 5 stars for everything but trust me this place won't disappoint. Got the ossobucco and it came with an untraditional sauce that tasted pretty dam good. The stuffed pear pasta was there thing and it was pretty good as well. Could've been a little hotter in temperature but what do i know, i like to eat my food burning hot. Reservations are a HIGHLY, I repeat HIGHLY recommended. This is one of my "go to" spots in Firenze for authentic and exceptional Tuscan cuisine. Fantastic service and food. South of the Arno in an area with a number of great places to eat. Away from the "touristy" places on the busy streets, it doesn't try and be "something for everyone" like so many tourist oriented places in Firenze. Here you'll get a genuine Tuscan experience with genuine Tuscan food and excellent service. I have never been disappointed by the food. We walked over to 4 Leoni without a reservation to find a very full restaurant. Inside and out. We were told that the wait would be about an hour and a half. We decided to put our name in and head over to one of the local bars on the corner to have a drink or 2. It's a very popular area. Tons of people hanging outside drinking and having fun. There were plenty of places to choose from to have a drink. After about an hour, my boyfriend went to check in and they had a table for us. We started with a house Chianti which was nice, easy drink. We ordered the fried zucchini flowers and prosciutto and cheese for an appetizer. Both were delicious. The zucchini flowers were fried perfect, not too greasy. The prosciutto was probably the best I had the whole time we were in Italy. The cheese was smooth and tasty. For our main course, we got the pear stuffed pasta and a filet. Both were exquisite. The pasta stuffed with pear had a cream sauce with asparagus over it. It was so delicious!! The filet was perfectly cooked and had a wonderful flavor. I highly recommend Trattoria 4 Leoni when in Florence. Make a reservation and plan to spend some time in the area for a pre-dinner coctails. read more

This used to be my favourite meal ever, but when I got the pear pasta (again, used to be my favourite) I was left a bit disappointed. The pear was crunchy and not smooth like I remembered it being so that threw the pear hole thing off for me. This restaurant was highly recommended to me by so many of my friends who had studied abroad in Florence. Most people had said that their pear pasta was life changing and I am happy to report that I completely agree. When we were seated the waitress immediately greeted us and asked if we were there for the pear pasta (uh, yea). We were brought out a yummy bread basket with oil and balsamic and our pear pasta was brought out within 10 minutes. Not only did it look delicious, but the taste absolutely lived up to the hype. The pieces of pasta were little pockets of heaven filled with a sweet pear filling and on top they put a creamy cheese sauce that puts it all together. I've lived in Florence almost two months now and this is still my all time favorite dish I've had since being here! We had our last dinner in Florence here. We trusted our concierge to make our reservations. He told us we had reservations, but when we got there the host told us our name wasn't on their list. Since we were early and it was a weekday they let us in anyway, which relieved a lot of stress. We started with a plate of salami, cheese and raw fava beans. The salami was good, the cheese was very milky, different than most cheeses I've had, and serving the fava beans raw was something I haven't seen before. The raw fava beans had a snap to them and refreshed the palate. I ordered the Orecchiette with broccoli, anchovies and a sprinkle of dried pepper on top. The Orecchiette were cute little bowler hat shaped pasta. The broccoli gave freshness to the dish and the pepper gave it a bite. I didn't really taste the anchovy which made the dish a little plain and one noted after a few bites. So I tried my Uncles grilled flat chicken which was juicy and fatty with a great char. My Aunt's spaghetti and clams was spicy with the essence of clams. My Dad's potatoes and octopus was a delicious mouthy classic. My other Aunt's cod in tomato sauce was melt in your mouth tender. Even though my dish got a little boring after a while, I had plenty of other delicious dishes to feast on. Dessert was the best out of the meal. I ordered the cheesecake with berries and a tiramisu. The tiramisu was soggy and not very impressive, but the cheesecake was the star. The cheese filling was as light as air and the berries were fresh and sweet. The best dessert I've had in Florence. This trattoria is freaking FANTASTIC! I dined here for lunch to get my daily pasta fix. This restaurant was one of the few recs from a fellow Florentine friend (alliteration not intended). I am overjoyed his recommendation. During lunch, I ordered the spaghetti vongole and the avocado and arugula salad. I went basic, light even, since I had a big dinner planned (Florentine steakhouse). Needless to say, I loved it here SO much, my dad and I came back the following evening for our last meal in Florence. Man on man did we go IN! Stopped by here because it was recommended by Rick Steve's guide to Florence and we happened to be close by after walking across the Ponte Vecchio. The tuna with carmelized onions was absolutely heavenly. Perfectly grilled and flavorful. The stuffed zucchini was also wonderful as was the house red wine. After the amazing dinner, we couldn't resist dessert. The Panna Cotta was creamy and less gelatinous than I've had in the US and the Tiramisu was extremely flavorful with bold coffee and cocoa flavored while still being light and not overly sweet. Menu only in Italian and the server was impatient with answering questions. Without google translation we'd never be able to order with the lack of help. This popular spot in Florence had a line waiting for lunch service opening on a Thursday. But our group of 6 got seated pretty easily. The place filled up fast. The dishes are no frills and simple. Letting the ingredients mostly shine in its own right. I ordered the Scalopina di Vitella dei 4 Leoni because they had their restaurant namesake on it, and usually it's a good bet it'll be good. The veal was breaded and fried solidly. It could have been a bit more flavorful in seasoning, especially since there was no sauce for it. Only diced fresh tomatoes piled on top. The simplicity and presentation of the dish bordered on being boring but the veal was tender which is more important. My wife got the Tonno alla Griglia which is a grilled Tuna. The tuna was grilled well at a medium rare. The caramelized onion and pine nut sauté tasted good but faltered in presentation as it just seemed like two separate piles just slopped on the plate. They are just very minimalistic in its ingredients where it's hard to be wowed by the simplicity of what they're offering. But the execution of dishes is solid. I will say their pasta dishes looked and smelled a lot better than what we ordered. I had couple bites of one of the pasta dishes and it was very good. I hated this place! The workers are rude! My husband speaks Italian fluently. He asked them if they had an English menu for me, the waiter said, "yes but give me a minute" we sat there for a good 20 minutes waiting. A different waiter came and asked if we were ready. My husband said we've been waiting for an English menu." He looked extremely annoyed and said no! My husband read me the menu. The pear ravioli is gross, probably the worst food I had while in Italy. Also, everyone around us had bread brought to them without asking.. we definitely noticed. So we asked if we could have some bread, we were given a basket with two loaf ends, they were rock hard!! The table next to us had several nice slices (from the middle of the loaf) then when we got our bill we were charged 6 euro for that shit bread!! We came here upon recommendations of a friend. He'd been in Firenze just the week before. Anyway, 4Leoni is located in a quite little square on the south side of the Arno. This square is a mecca for food! Not only does it house this gem but also the best gelateria in Italia (possibly the world) and a very tasty pizza joint. The outdoor seating was a boon as our insanely hyper toddler would not sit still. My wife and I took turns eating and running after pigeons with the crazy toddler. Our waiter was very knowledgeably, friendly and spoke great english. Onto the food! Do order the house Chianti because that's what the locals would do. We had the following amazing dishes: Pear ravioli w asparagus & Spaghetti w clams (spaghetti al vongole). The star dish was the Ossobucco! Incredibly executed with moistness and flavor.
