We had a double date dinner her a couple weeks ago with friends. If you had been here before it was Desiderio's, the ambiance is very similar - upscale but cozy and warm. We were seated upstairs. Our waitress was attentive and welcoming. We started with the bruschetta and stuffed banana peppers. both tasty. We were happy to see the bread came from 18 mile bakery down the street! 3/4 of us ordered the scallops - they ran out of the risotto so served it with linguini, turned out great. I ordered the classic chicken parm. Did not disappoint. Most of this menu is pasta dishes, so if you aren't in the mood for pasta, I would recommend trying when you are! read more

It's always exciting when Hamburg gets a new restaurant that's not a chain restaurant so we went to check out Desiderio's a couple weeks ago. I'm going to start with the food - ordered bruschetta even though it has ricotta cheese (which we're not huge fans of unless it's in lasagne or ravioli). As expected, the ricotta flavor overpowered the rest of the dish, but still decent. We just wouldn't order again if we return. For entrees, I ordered Chicken Milanese - it was really good - perfect proportions between meat, veggies, and pasta. The chicken was a little bland though so I think it either needed more seasoning in the breading, or it needed a lot more of that yummy lemon caper sauce that was drizzled on top. Hubby ordered Amatriciana which he enjoyed but felt like it lacked something. He later realized he should have gotten it parmed! He added mozzarella cheese to the leftovers and microwaved it at home the next day and he liked it so much more. We ordered 2 side meatballs - they were just ok, definitely not worth $5 given how small they were. They have a very young serving staff, seemingly a bit inexperienced and awkward. Not very personable so the service felt very robotic, I mean, it was fine, not great, but not terrible either. For example, our server opened the bottle of wine and poured (and dripped) initial glasses the wines, but never once came back to refill our glasses again. Not a huge deal, but if I'm expected to tip 20%+, I kinda expect decent service. Now onto a few other minor complaints - when we were being seated my chair had food crumbs on it, the hostess did not see it so I just wiped it off with my hand (ew). The table we sat at wobbled (pretty sure I'm cursed with getting wobbly tables though cause I seem to get them often). The menu (laminated) or the table was wet, so the menu kept sticking to the table and touching the wet menu was yucky cause I wasn't quite sure if the wetness was clean or dirty. The biggest complaint I had was that after the appetizer, we had our forks and knives on the plates to be taken away because they had ricotta cheese and dressing all over them (at least the knives). The server told us to keep them for the main course so we had to put them back onto the wooden (still slightly damp) table which just seemed messy and unsanitary. All in all, it was an enjoyable evening and Desiserio's is a solid addition to the village of Hamburg. I would return to try out some of their other dishes. read more

Three visits to Desiderio's! Finally getting the review posted. Karen and Erica are top notch; excellent personalities and service! Make your reservation and park across the street in village parking. The scallop and pasta special is fabulous and is my favorite and rivals with the calamari pasta! Husband desires the clams and pasta whenever it's a special; we wish it was a mainstay on the menu! For dessert, try the rum cake, cheesecake and gelato! Excellent choices! read more

Best Italian restaurant in Hamburg hands down! Everything is so delicious that you literally can't go wrong with anything you pick. The meatballs with ricotta appetizer was a favorite along with the marinated eggplant. The chicken Milanese and chicken cutlet are fried to perfection. They have a great wine selection, two bars and a beautiful space with small patio also. The service was perfect and staff was so friendly. Delicious. I was torn between the manicotti and lasagna but the whipped ricotta sold me and I'm glad I did. So delicious. My friend got the chicken parm she said it was good too. My first visit. Food and wine both excellent. And both were also good value. Our server, Mia, was also excellent. There was a strange delay of almost an hour for our entrées to come out after the salad course. We were seated on the second floor reached by a staircase that might be a challenge for patrons with even minor mobility problems. Apparently, a ground floor table can be requested at Resy reservations. Not obvious to me when I reserved, or I would have requested. A worse problem for everyone seated on the second floor is the noise level. There seems to be no soundproofing at all on the ceiling, and it really needs some. No parking lot, but a municipal lot ten minutes' walk away if the street parking is full. read more

I normally would leave this type of review, but I was super disappointed. The service was adequate, but the food was not good at all. My son ordered the ribeye steak and it was way overcooked. The greens on the side were very bitter and did not taste good at all. I ordered the calamari pasta and the calamari was very rubbery. On a positive note, the bruschetta was decent. I have heard so many good things about the food here and just couldn't understand why. I wouldn't return. I wish them all the best and hope others continue to enjoy their food. read more

My friends all enjoyed the complimentary Italian bread and butter too, but again, no gluten free option. Eight of us went there last night and it was nothing short of fantastic. I had the ragu rigatoni with fennel sausage and it was delicious. A few others had the chicken parm and some others had the manicotti. We all split a couple orders of meatballs which were outstanding. Our server was great with a nice sense of humor. Do not miss this gem on Buffalo Street in Hamburg, New York. Everything about my experience was exceptional. We had reservations and we were seated immediately. Karen, our server, was pleasant, attentive and accommodating. We started with the stuffed artichoke appetizer that was brilliant! It was stuffed with breadcrumbs and cheese, beautifully cooked in a delicious broth, that came to the table fork-tender and simply delicious. My S-I-L and I asked to split our orders so we could both share and Karen didn't bat an eyelash at that request. We ordered the spaghetti, garlic and oil and the penne alla vodka. The orders came out quickly. The food was beautifully presented and hot, but it didn't stop there. I'm going to make a controversial statement here, but this was some of the best Italian food I've ever had. We ordered simple food because you can't hide much in a simple dish and in this case, that was a good thing. The flavors were clean and nuanced in a way that not one item overpowered either dish. This is no easy task but proof that quality ingredients can result in a suberb product. My brother, a hard-core carnivore, ordered the Veal Parm. Again, beautifully presented and a massive portion, so much so that he left with a take home box. But it didn't end there! We ordered a cannoli because everyone knows, you leave the gun and take the cannoli. The shell was crispy with a beautiful velvety filling with a hint of citrus and both pistachios and chocolate chips. Outstanding! It's unlikely that you'll be disappointed at Desiderio's and I for one am already planning my next meal there. Bravo boys! BRAVO!! read more

Was looking forward to trying this new restaurant in Hamburg . It was ok but missing some things we thought were important . First off we made reservations- did not get a choice of upstairs or downstairs and were seated upstairs - tough climb for my 84 year old mother . No tables available downstairs . Little things missing- no salt and pepper on the table , no crushed red pepper or offer for Parmesan Cheese. Had to ask for silverware when entrees came . Soup just warm . Gluten free pasta (penne only ) but no gluten free desserts. Food was just ok . read more

We all liked the bruschetta and calamari appetizers and our dinners were all really good (I got the manicotti - yum), others had chicken, clam and sausage dishes, and all were excellent. Very disappointed though in the tiramisu dessert. Granted, we got it to go. We opened the container to find a piece that was, no kidding, maybe 2 inches square! Very disappointing - needs love. Unfortunately, that was the last impression we were left with - last impressions should be spectacular. While our server was very nice, she never came back to ask if we wanted additional drinks, which we would have gotten. Dinners - Excellent. Dessert - Sad. All in all this was a good experience. The prices are approaching fine dining, so I would suggest some tweaks. When serving a long pasta, don't make me ask .. and wait for a spoon to twirl, it should be obvious. I asked for Parmesan cheese, and received a small ramekin with a small amount of cheese. Grated Parmesan cheese at tableside goes a long way toward elevating the experience. The service was excellent and the food very good. I will in all likelihood be back. read more

Food was good. Service needs work. Spaghetti with clams in a shell, no bowl given to place the shells, no spoon for the spaghetti. Hot tea served in a cup, no saucer, no spoon. Asked for a saucer and spoon, and when coffee was served - no saucers and no spoons. I mentioned to the waitress, you always serve the cup with a saucer and a spoon. Jules, the waitress, did not seem happy to hear the comment. Lighting is dim and there are touch lamps on the tables, which the waitresses should turn on when seating people, but do not. I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. All entrees were served hot, well presented and delicious! I was especially pleased with the stuffed artichoke appetizer, ( just like grandma used to make). The restaurant itself is trendy and vibrant. They were busy so the service tended to be a little slow and a couple of requested items were never delivered to the table. Overall a great experience and we will return! read more
