My family and friends were regulars at this place for the past 3 years. After the last 2 visits in November 2013 and last night January 11, 2014, we wont be going here anymore. $25 for the chili flake pappardelle and the shrimp is small, low grade, low quality and the sauce is now canned cheap gunk. We can say this with 3 years of having the same dish, so the quality went down and the price went up. You can go to any of the restaurants in Martinsville and have the same/similar dish at half the price and triple the quality - this we can also say with experience objectively. This time, the servers are nice but overworked, but the food is not worth the price and quite opposite to what they advertise. We (as a group) all felt the same way. Also, and more importantly, sprinkling cheese on everything is not going to make it taste better, especially seafood, that's a big no-no in an Italian household. In all fairness, the pizza is good, but there are better alternatives down the road with better ingredients as well. To sum it up - find an alternative- it's crowded on Saturdays, which is fine with us, but for what? low-grade expensive food. Not worth it for people who know quality and taste. read more

Service: When you pay $70 for 2 pizzas and a salad, the order should probably be correct, but mistakes happen. So, they had to remake a salad, but all the while leaving the pizzas to get cold. When a request for fresh pizzas to be made we were met with extreme disrespect and dismissiveness. When a customer is speaking to a manager it is probably not the right thing to do to walk away mid conversation. This is how you run a business? You walk away when you don't know how to deal with a problem. So, forget it...we don't want the food. Just give us a refund. Manager doesn't even have the decency to come back out to speak to us face to face...but you offer a $20 refund? Hmm...that does not seem to add up. We weren't asking for any more than what we deserved. We wanted to try a new local place, but that won't be happening again. But, we said I'll take the food and the refund...which they said will take 24 hours, so we'll see about that. Oh...and the Arugula pizza...doesn't have any arugula and the blackened salmon wasn't blackened. So, I guess it's good that we got the refund because we didn't get the food we requested in the end. read more

Can here with my husband for date night and had a wonderful experience. The service was great and so was the food! I had the linguini with clams and my husband had chicken park. They both came out hot and were tasty. Before our meal we were given bread and some kind of spread. It was ok...I wasn't really into it but it wasn't bad. For dessert I had the zeppoles!! What a great surprise to find out they made zeppoles! They came out in a brown bag with a side of Nutella! It was a perfect ending! I would def come back! read more

Atmosphere: Busy and loud, but not in a bad way. I like the high tables. Food: Better than I expected! I really liked the bread and hummus-like spread that came out before our appetizers. I believe the spread was parmesan, red peppers, chickpeas, and some other add-ins. Very chunky and great on the crusty bread they served. Between my mother and I, we ordered the Broccoli Grattinato, the Cherry Tomato Bruschetta (YUM), small Arugula Pizza, a large Grilled Insalata. Food is great! BYOB to kick. From locally produced stuff, very fresh. A real refreshing change from the everyday Italian heavy dishes, laden with oil. These small portioned, organic dishes are the perfect amount. The pizza is amazing! Again, not the typical pizza flavors, different, exotic, but not too over the top. They have a brick oven right in the restaurant! Young staff, which is good as they are hunger, but the service is not strong. But, I am in love with the goat meat lasagna (when they have it, remember it is locally produced and therefore limited). If the food is good, I'll keep coming back regardless of the service. Did I mention its BYOB! Just another great point. As for other beverages, they serve Gus sodas and Fentimans, gourmet beverages, as well, so you know they choose their food well. Grabbed a quick lunch with a coworker, ordered the Prosciutto Panini and he ordered the Natural Chicken Panini. I really liked mine and the house salad that came with the sandwich was excellent. It was simple but tasty, it helps that I'm huge fan of lemons. Went to Bolu this evening. Not a very busy night on the patio. I was told that as a party of two I had to sit in a cramped location next to another party despite there being 4 other tables one of which could of been split. No compromise her way or the highway. Excellent healthy and eco-conscious options to suit every picky eater: vegan, gluten-free, locally-sourced, low-fat, organic, grass-fed, wild-caught. I brought a friend here who basically only eats organic salads, and not just typical things like beefsteak tomatoes and romaine lettuce. She was able to get her arugula, raddichio, heirloom tomatoes, and asian pears, with aged balsamic vinegar, and she was quite pleased. Everything is a little pretentious but some people only eat like that! The high prices reflect the high quality and everything is perfect! I like the cool dark slate and iron decor too. Went a few weeks ago with some friends and two kids for lunch. We had a number of the appetizers, a couple pizzas, salads, paninis. The food was very good. They try to serve organic and locally grown foods. Everything was very fresh. Two of us had paninis and they were SUPER. I ordered a margarita pizza on whole wheat. It was pretty good. I wouldn't say excellent. Will have to try the regular dough. The service was pretty good. They got very busy and given that, the service was good and waitress was very friendly and checked on us regularly. The only issue is that it gets noisy when there are a lot of people there. Mediocre at best. Nice décor, and we did not have a problem with the service as others seem to have had. Prices were way beyond what they should be given the ingredients used. The arugula salad with artichoke hearts (canned) and mushrooms (also seemed canned) was very expensive and fairly tasteless even with the balsamic dressing. Went to Bolu yesterday evening for dinner. Even though it was a busy Friday night the staff was very attentive and helpful. Our waitress Sara was energetic and gave helpful advice with the menu. For an appetizer we had the cherry tomato Bruschetta which was outstanding. The cherry tomatoes had the most incredible flavor. What a great way to start a meal. For dinner I had the Bolu Bolognese which was also outstanding. My friend had the Braised Lamb Tagliatelle which he also enjoyed very much. Portion size was large so go there with a hearty appetite. While the food is good, the price knocks the rating down. I'm a fan of the pizza but a small pie is close to $20. The last time we went we had two small pizzas and an entree salad and it was $60 The atmosphere is great for a family outing for pizza but so-so if you're looking for a night out. As someone who eats gluten free, I'm a happy girl when I go to Bolu. I went there this past week and ordered the ahi tuna salad, while my boyfriend ordered the chicken parmigiana. We were both very happy with our orders. And.. For dessert, there was no way I was passing up on their flourless chocolate cake. Holy crap, it's good. Super rich and creamy.. Just perfect. Two things that make me not give up that fifth star: 1. They're a little pricey. 2. The vibe I got from yelp reviews was this was a nice pizzeria with good food that was overpriced. I do not mind paying for good food, the first time I walked in I looked around and saw the most exquisite pizzeria of all time. No slices for lunch I would need to get a personal pan. A crowd of four walks in, the guy helping me gravitated over to the party of four and I slipped out the door to plan B. Fast FWD to tonight a few weeks later, ordered eggplant parmesan sandwich and a diet soda. Sandwich was excellent and was quality, the service was quick and professional, the price $18.50. A cup of salad came with the sandwich. I won't be back the prices are ridiculous but hey that Baskin Ridge rent has to be paid somehow. read more

My go-to has become the chopped salad with roasted chicken. The chamomile infused figs add a unique sweet-yet-tart flavor, and the chicken is always tender and juicy. Another favorite of mine is stuffed cherry pepper appetizer from the antipasto bar. They're quite spicy though so watch out! Each of the items we ordered are familiar Italian comfort food but were prepared with an innovative flare and excellent fresh ingredients. The portion sizes were all very large. The options for their brick oven pizza not only include many gourmet toppings, it also includes alternate crust selections.
