We came back in Florence to this pub casual feel type restaurant. We had pumpkin soup, bean bread, beef stew, veal special and lasagna. We had drinks and wine as well. Food was ok- we had a different experience from the last visit. They had the side room of tables blocked off and we sat in the front room of tables this visit. The tables were small and not super comfy. The table at first was really made for two people and we were three. Not sure we come back on our next trip again. read more

This trattoria is found connected to the restaurant side (it can get confusing as there are multiple cibreo signs. Look for the trattoria sign closest to the church Service and food are very good. Got the special braised beef cheek and it was a very large portion, and very melty. All other dishes were just as delicious. We shared and I was on cloud nine the whole time. The best part is that the service was so fast. Like I ordered carrot cake and a pie it came in like five minutes! This was to be our first dinner after arriving in Florence. We walked in and gave our name only to be rudely told we were not on the list. My husband showed this unfriendly woman our reservation on his phone and she insisted we did not. Another lady stepped in, looked at their list and said yes here you are. We were seated and who is our server? The first woman saying we didn't have a reservation. She made us wait 20 min for a drink order, then another 20 min to bring our wine bottle. She then went on telling us she hates tourists and we make her want to stay home with her garden. She then gave specials and walked away for another 15 min. When she came back, we told her we will have meatballs for myself and roast beef for my husband. She scoffed and then said " what's wrong with ordering a special? Are you afraid to try new food?" I responded cold tripe salad and chicken necks is not appealing. We were made to wait 45 min for our food and when it came out, we were disgusted. My meatballs were purred chicken somehow formed into a meatball and sautéed. The roast-beef was slices of meat placed around the plate with broth in the middle. My husband compared it to eating Arby's. We took two bites, asked for our bill and left. First night in Florence and we walked away completely disappointed, disgusted and hungry! One star is generous! The only part that was good was the wine. Also, the temperature inside was HOT and uncomfortable! Terrible restaurant and a waste of money! read more

Really popular place, Michelin recommended too which is maybe. Need a reservation if you want to avoid a wait. Service is good and friendly. No complaints there. The place is old school and has charm. Food is ok. Some dishes were hit and miss. They have a small menu and a ton of changing specials not on the menu which they tell you about. We tried several things: tripe salad - interesting, pretty tasty, wouldn't say I love it but don't hate it. A bit too mushy for my taste but flavors were nice. Fish soup - tastes nice, bit too salty. One other soups of the day Beef cheeks - a special main. Tender beef. Nice sauce. Rabbit stew - another special main. This was a huge letdown. Super dry, tastes like overcooked chicken, and swimming in oil. And to boot, way way too salty. Side dish of sautéed greens with garlic. Very bland and basic. I can't even remember what the veg was but it tasted like boiled lettuce (it was not lettuce) House wine - not bad. Dessert we picked panna cotta. While tasty, this was more like a crème caramel. Pricing is not cheap considering the small portions you get. I would not recommend this place. Thoroughly mediocre and very overhyped. read more

Amazing. This is becoming a staple of our Florence trips and it would be hard to pass up on future visits, especially since the menu is constantly changing. This visit, we got their salumi del giorno (an incredible homemade finochietta that we both agreed was one of the best things we ate on our trip), ribollita (one of the best versions I've had), minestrone (my wife was obsessed), lasagna (excellent but behind I Sodi's in NYC), meatballs (some of the best anywhere), chickpea panisse (we'd skip next time), and two desserts (chocolate cake, which is an automatic re-order, and cheesecake, which was great except that we weren't huge fans of the orange marmalade on top). They also made an amazing fusilli pomodoro for our kids, and were just generally amazing towards them. It's amazing to me that this place isn't more mobbed, given how great it is and how many tv shows the old man has been on, but no complaints -- we love it and we'll be back. read more

The food was terrible (the part we were graciously served) service ... what to say non existent I was thinking to deliver the appetizers plate to the kitchen myself. Then we had to cancel our main course orders because they were non existent after 1h 30 mins. We had to leave the restaurant no apologies or anything. Only ok if you want to leave .. leave . This place offered the ambience of an authentic Florentine trattoria, which sits alongside its more formal dining establishment, the Ristorante. I feel like this was our best experience getting away from the other tourists and having to wing it as strangers in a foreign, but welcoming small venue. As a group of 9 Americanos, we squeezed in and did our best to fit in (and decipher the menu). This is a local Trattoria near Piazza Sant 'Ambrogio that has been here since 1979. They offer a smaller menu from the Ristorante next door. They also have a Caffe place across the street open 7 days/week and a newer place, Cibleo with Korean, Japanese,Korean influences paired with Tuscan foods. I started with a classic Negroni. I had the Burrata with plump tomatoes & olive oil to start. Very good. I then had the porcini soup. Not overpowering like some mushroom soups. For my main course, I had the Beef cheeks stewed for 4 hours with Tuscan white beans. Very tender beef in a dark sauce. The beans were a good counterpoint. I paired it with a glass of the 2018 Felix Tenuta Montaini. An excellent red wine. For dessert, I had the Panna Cotta with Caffe Correto (with Sambuca). A nice meal. *Note: small dogs are allowed inside the trattoria*. They have 3 tables outside with plastic sheeting & thermal heaters. I got a glass of grappa, Poli Sarpa Oro. The couple next to us had gone to all 4 Cibreo restaurants (including the theater) and loved all of them - so we knew figured this would be good. Atmosphere: Put on a scarf and go for the outdoor seating, interior decor is kinda unsexy - the panhandling accordion players can be annoying but do provide some atmosphere. Service: Excellent from the ones who spoke English, kind of chaotic from the ones who didn't. The menu is Italian only but they translate for you in more detail than you'll ever need. Stopped for wine during our day of wandering and a first course, main course, and a coffee later, we rolled ourselves out. Everything was delicious. We let the owner choose everything for us and weren't disappointed. My main course was the artichoke stuffed with egg yolk on a bed of delicious mashed potato. When it arrived the waiter delicately sliced it open from the stem down and with this the yolk was broken and spilled over the mash potato. My partner had the liver pate in a sea of some of the most amazing béchamel sauce ever, served with a side of mash. The roast beef at the table beside us looked like no roast beef I've ever seen but I wish I'd had room to try it, it looked spectacular. read more

I can only describe this experience as strange and my husband would give Cibreo one star. Aside from the menu getting lost in translation, what showed up in front of us didn't look extremely appetizing. I had stuffed rabbit but the rabbit was mostly fat and the stuffing was tasty but could of used less salt. My husband ordered a squid dish but ended up picking out the squid entirely and then barely touching the rest. Could have been poor ordering on our part but I wouldn't attempt it again. read more

So.... this is that review that I wanted to be stellar, but... it kind of fell short. Here's the play by play: I arrived about 7:45 p.m., wasn't actually looking to eat here, but it was the first time there were tables, so I decided to make a dash for it. They were only seating outside, which was ok (until the twin accordian players and their boombox showed up). However, you may want to note that outside, the tables are quite short, even sitting with the short stools. I felt very high from the table and could see a bigger guy (not necessarily fat), struggling to stay on his stool. I was seated promptly, the menu is in Italian, and while one of the waitstaff is great at explaining everything in English, you may want to have a small dictionary as she was very busy at each table. When I ordered, she checked to make sure that I knew what I was ordering, which was great since my dictionary did not cover the word 'meatloaf'. She must have had quite a few Americans in because when she explained the dish she said, "It does not have tomato sauce on top. It is cooked in a water bath. It comes with mayonnaise that is quite strong." She probably didn't know why I was giggling, but clearly some Americans had probably been here and expected something different when they ordered the 'meatloaf'. Anyway I ordered the Minestrone with white fish to start with and then the meatloaf. The antipastis were 7 euro, primi piatti were 8 euro, and secondo were 15 euro. I didn't really think that was steep, although the portions are not microscopic, but they are a bit smaller, so if you are very hungry, you'll probably need to order a couple of courses to make sure you are satisfied by the end. What probably drove the cost of my dinner up was the water... 7 euro!!!! I don't think I've ever had water that expensive! Order a glass of wine, it is quite large and only 2 euro. My first dish came out and it looked great. Green and orange were the primary colors and it smelled heavenly. I don't think I've ever had fish in my minestrone and that's why I was pretty excited to try it. It was delicious... even a little spicy. As I was eating my soup, I noticed a family with a child turn up. While the family were having trouble communicating with the hostess, they ended up sitting down and surprise, they had a high chair they could bring out to the table. I kind of wondered what the little one would eat, but at one point the hostess brought him a large stick of bread... which actually looked like a bone. He was delighted. The couple sitting in front of me continually got the wrong dish at each course. The waiter was very apologetic, but I was a little dumbstruck that it happened at every course they ordered. Then this lady had asked for her bill and no one ever came back with it. She sat there for some time before the hostess finally asked her (probably because she had people waiting for tables) if she was ok and the lady told her she wanted her bill. My second dish came out and it wasn't entirely what I was expecting, but I like to keep an open mind. There were two round, grey slices with pistachio on the plate with a huge dollop of homemade mayo. They also brought out a tiny salad in a bowl. The meatloaf had the consistency of a very thick, solid pate. I did eat all of it, but I did slather it up with the mayo. Actually, in my opinion, the mayo was the best part of that dish. It was quite strong, but in a good way. It was tangy, there was a bit of kick, and it was very creamy. However, the meatloaf didn't really stand up to the mayo and that was a bit of a disappointment. Oh and the dressing on the mini salad... AMAZING. I was tempted to ask for another dish of the salad. From what I can tell... lemon, Pecorino cheese, and basil... maybe??? If they sold it in a bottle, I would buy it. I did want to try their desserts because... well this place has a reputation, so I wanted to try all of it. The hostess explained all of the desserts and the Chocolate Pudding with Caramel Sauce (Chocolate Budino) was the one I decided on. It was a pretty work of art with sauce splatter on the plate like a Jackson Pollock piece. However, I don't actually think it was a caramel sauce. I think it may have been espresso or something coffee flavored. The budino was so intense and so rich. It isn't very sweet, so if you are looking for something sweet, don't order it. It is rich, it is certainly chocolately, but in more of a dark chocolate way. I did eat all of it (it isn't a huge portion), but lactards beware... it is a custard, and I am certainly paying for it right now. My bill with two courses, a dessert, water, and glass of wine was 38 euro. Remember that 7 of that is just water! It is certainly one of the more expensive meals I have had and it while I did enjoy parts of it, I think I'd rather have a bowl of pasta down the street. read more

Fabio Picchi is one of the most famous chefs/restaurant entrepreneurs in Italy, I wouldn't say that he's among the most talented ones, in terms of cuisine, but surely he's got a great vision and sticks to the roots of Italian cuisine. This is why I love his restaurants, I love the way he "conquered" a little corner of Florence with all his offers, and I respect him for that. Trattoria Cibreo is an "easy going" formula for the more posh "Cibreo", it offers some of the same things on the menu in a relaxed ambient. No reservation is possible, waiters are REALLY good (maybe they "oversell" a little when they get into details and so on), food is very good. Shame for prices, not really up (or should I say "down") to a trattoria level. If you are into a different experience, it's a good place to go. read more

Again, my apologies for the hyperbole, but this was the best meal I think I have ever had in a restaurant. It lasted about three and a half hours, but was incredible. The cliff notes version: 1) Great food 2) More expensive than the Rough Guide said (100 euro/person plus booze) 3) Everyone speaks English 4) Do us all a favor and leave your kids at home / hotel I found the location through the Rough Guide, which said it was moderately pricey (20 for a main course). Even without the bottle of wine we would have been past the 100 euro/person range. That said, it was worth it. The appetizer course comes prix fixe, and ours was a dollop of fresh ricotta, a chicken pate on a house made melba toast, a spinach and ricotta flan and tripe. The pate had a blend of sage and something else that was fantastic. The flan was great for flan, but add in the savory aspects and it was some of the best I have had. The tripe was a first for me and my wife (she doesn't speak Italian so didn't know what it was). I found it very interesting. It was cut into 3-4 inch strips and tossed with a tangy/herby vinaigrette. As it was my first experience with tripe, I don't think I am in a position to comment beyond it was very good. My wife liked it, but once I told her what it was let me have the rest. It was good enough that she wasn't angry at me for withholding details... I could go on and on, but I will spare you. If a 100 euro / person (plus booze) sounds worth it to you, then you should definitely go here! read more

My pappa al pomodoro was good and the cuttlefish florentine style excellent. Inventive dishes and a lovely staff - I would recommend to anyone staying in Florence. Less expensive (I believe) than the "proper" Cibreo restaurant. About 8 tables for 4-6 people (you may share if you aren't a full table yourself). I along with two friends went in late upon our arrival to Florence (arrived at restaurant at maybe 10:45). The waiter said we could eat, but it would have to be quick. Obviously Italian quick, means a two hour dinner. A small trattoria serving from the same kitchen as the fancier brother restaurant next door. They don't take reservations here, so lining up before it opens is a good idea. The staff was really excellent! They made you feel very welcome and seemed to enjoy their jobs. They even brought us extra dishes because they seemed to want us to try things they were excited about. One simple thing the blew us away sounds really odd - or even terrible. It was a Greek style yogurt with olive oil, lemon and turmeric. The beef stew was stellar. The mat was fine, but I'm not a big beef fan.The real star was the sauce which was a rich and subtle reduction. All in all, great and sophisticated Tuscan fare in a small casual spot away from the tourist bustle. read more

Maybe I missed something? First, note that there is a Trattoria Cibreo and a Restaurante Cibreo. They are next door to one another so they are easy to confuse. The trattoria is affordable and very casual (butcher paper on the tables). The restaurante is pretty fancy and is $$$. They have the same menu though, so I'm not sure what you're paying extra for except for ambiance and service. We went to the Trattoria. Second this is rustic and "simple" TUSCAN food, so there is no pasta for example. The pate antipasta was great and my husband loved his minestrone and pork chop. The fish I ordered was blah. I guess I was expecting something mind blowing after the reviews we saw and left a bit disappointed after spending our last meal in Italy here. read more

We went to Trattoria Cibreo based on the good reviews but were underwhelmed. It was pretty casual and was able to get a table for 2 on a Friday night at 8pm. We ordered the tripe as a starter, which was pretty good but nothing special. My wife got the stuffed rabbit and I ordered the pork loin. Both items were better than expected but what brings this review down was the service. It took forever to get initial service and took even longer when we ordered additional items and drinks. It took so long that we just decided to ask for the check so we could leave. Even then, it took us 15 minutes to pay. Overall, food was good but the service was so off putting that we would not come back. read more

A very popular place in Florence, on the other side of the Arno from the Centro. It was recommended by a local shopkeeper on the same street; she said the food was very good and it's expensive. Both of which I concur. To start we had a bottle of wine that was slightly corked. When we mentioned to the waiter he wisked the bottle of the table without question and replaced it with another which was fine. As we dined for lunch, the place is very crowded and although there were a few locals; there were many tourists. The food is very good; I had a dish of Chicken in a white wine sauce with fresh truffle. It was 80 euro, i do understand that the truffle are very expensive, and again the dish was very good, but also very simple. Although we did have a very nice time, we probably wouldn't return as for the price, IMHO, i don't think it delivered the creativity and unique items that you would normally see in restaurant of that calibur. read more

Okay. This is an amazing place to have amazing food. The ristorante accepts reservations the trattoria does not. They also offer a cafe and a buffet and entertainment show. How diverse is that! And yet that's nothing. We weren't up for the many course offerings at the ristorante but the trattoria accommodated us greatly. My lovely had the liver pate' that left her savoring every morsel. I had polenta. Now, you say polenta. Well, imagine something that melts in your mouth, makes you wonder how every other time you've had polenta it paled, underwhelmed. Yet, it got even better. Chicken meatballs in sauce. Omg! Delicious. Even dessert/dulce. The right combination of delicious without just being about extreme sweet. The panna cotta with caramel. We had dinner with friends on our last night in Florence. We arrived before the trattoria opened but the owner told our friend, who is Italian, that they would open in a few minutes so we waited. Within 10 minutes of our seating, all the tables were full. The owner was sitting with his back to us at a table with several young men. Since the room is small and the tables were full, the conversation volume was loud. Suddenly, the owner shouted in Italian that everyone should "shut up." Our friend translated for us so we could understand what the owner had said. The room went quiet for a beat and then the volume went right back to what it was. His shout was an omen of things to come. We ordered a chicken liver pate to start and it arrived only when we asked what had happened to our order. It was absolutely delicious with the hearty and tasty bread that had been served soon after we arrived. We had a ricotta and potato savory flan which was also delicious with an appealing creamy texture. My stuffed rabbit (with prosciutto) was dry and slightly tough so it appeared to be overcooked. It came with a side dish of tiny, brown beans that might have been lentils. They were unimpressive. My husband's mullet that was cooked in the foil in which it arrived was delicious but only about 2 bites. It came with a side of unremarkable white beans. With wine and water, our share of the bill was about 60 euros, although the sum of everything was much more because others shared the cost of the wine, water, and ricotta/potato dish. We said "no" to dessert and coffee and asked for the check. We had just started to divvy it up when the owner yelled at us that a pregnant woman was waiting to be seated so we must immediately leave the table.We huddled in the teeny foyer to figure out our shares of the bill. The people waiting passed through one by one: none of the first 6 were under 55 and certainly none of the women were pregnant. Two more couples came in and, although the women were younger, none was obviously pregnant. Perhaps the owner is bipolar or something and we just arrived on a very bad night for him. Whatever--avoid spending a large amount of money and risking a bad experience when there are so many other choices in Florence. read more
