We literally waited 2 and a half years to come here. In 2023, we couldn't get a reservation that matched our schedule, so it was the first thing we did when we arrived back in Rome. We both had different seafood pastas and they were absolutely delicious. The artichoke appetizer was amazing. The service was great and the ambience was, of course, incredible in its outdoor seating in Trastevere. They even had a decent house white wine. We will definitely go back on our next trip. We headed over to the other side of the river from where we were staying to dine at another restaurant. When we arrived there , the line had more than 30 people waiting with more than probably an hour wait. Decided to try another restaurant that he recommended and we were in luck there was an available table outside under the lights. Well the lights were on by the time we left. Our waiter took our drink and meal order. I order a Penne Pasta with a spicy red tomato sauce, that also included hot peppers. Differently for the diner who enjoys a little heat with their meal. Husband ordered a Penne pasta with a Parmesan, seasoning, pepper and olive oil. He enjoyed his meal and the hearty bread. Very strange experience. We went there on a busy Saturday with reservation for a group of 7. The waiter told us no more than 3 orders of pasta per table due to small kitchen. Then they could only do fried artichoke because no more Roman style artichoke. We had to substitute fried zucchini flower which wasn't bad. We ordered orata with asparagus which was overcooked. It is a tourist trap. If you never had Italian food you would be impressed. Locals don't come here. Long line and bad customer service. read more

Found this place on Trip Advisor and it was one of the best meals I had in Rome. Leaving the south of Italy and rounding up our trip in Italy, we stayed in the Trastevere neighborhood. Tucked away in a cute piazza is Trattoria Da Teo. The line had a great collection of tourist and locals but we were lucky to make a reservation a head of time. It felt like I was sitting in my nonna's home during the holiday season back in the 80s. To say it felt nostalgic would be an understatement... it felt like a warm hug. We started our meal with Roman Style artichoke and zucchini blossoms that had the lightest crisp but full flavored taste. The menu is in both Italian and English but the wine list is the star of the menu books. Written by hand and broken down by region and type... the wine list was something to cry happy tears about. The waitstaff, an older tio type, suggested a wine for our table and we ended up purchasing a second bottle. Our meal choices were Rigatoni cacio e pepe, lamb scottadito, and prawns in cognac sauce. Absolutely Delicious!!!!! No pictures of the food because it was devoured between laughs, cheers, and sips of delicious wine. This is one of those places that you'd write a love song about. Be forewarned! We had a reservation for Sat night 7:30 outside (not realizing this is exactly when they opened). The unfriendly blonde hostess pointed us to a table and we placed our orders immediately since we knew what we wanted and could see that the kitchen would be in a crunch with everyone ordering at once. The atmosphere SUCKED with six unruly young kids running WILD with a soccer ball right next to the tables, yelling at the top of their lungs. I asked their moms in Italian to quiet them to no avail, then at one point I asked the kids to play more quietly. At this point the blonde lady comes over to chastise ME. Sorry lady, I'm paying $100 not to eat in a playground! P.S. we didn't get our pasta until 8:45 -- too bad it was overshadowed by the hell outside. read more

Five friends have been together traveling Italy for two weeks. We stopped in a small town in Pienza and at that restaurant we were recommended to try Trattoria De Teo in Rome. The overall experience at De Teo was chaotic. Prior to arrival the person who answered our call for a reservation was rude, yelling at others on the phone leaving us unsure if we had a reservation. When the call abruptly ended and we called back to confirm we were set we were met with a yes and quick hang up. Upon arrival for a 730 pm dinner reservation you got the feeling you were on line for a theme park ride. Ushered quickly to a table, no small talk, nothing friendly. We received one menu for a table of five and in five minutes a server returned with a curt are you ready to order. We ordered a few starters. Penne, Calamari with Artichoke and Burratta. In addition a bottle of white wine and Aperol Spritz. The wine and the Calamari were the only pleasant things. Burratta was bland, runny and no bread was served. Penne was al dente to the point of crunchy. Note I love al dente but this was not right. For dinner we ordered Meatballs and Lamb Chops. Lamb Chops were sloppily presented and over cooked. Two of the three meatball orders were cold and one was delayed 10 minutes due to error. The entire experience was frustrating, not friendly and not what we had experienced at other restaurants we dined with over the past two weeks. Our bill was over $300 for a meal that was subpar. This restaurant is a busy place and seems popular. By all accounts it has impressive reviews. They may have had a bad night, but I would recommend skipping this venue. read more

The location is in a quaint little courtyard on the Trastevere area with outdoor seating available. Although it is surrounded by other places to eat, we liked this menu the best. Great selection of food and wine. Started with the Rome style artichoke (life changing) and had the Cacio e Pepe as you should in Rome. Well worth the wait for a table. Plus there's a bar right across the street where you can have a drink while you wait. Our waiter (Arman) was friendly and knowledgeable and the food was fantastic. Special experience that we did for lunch our first day and dinner our second day... With the reservation for dinner expected. Our inn owner suggested this place as the top place anywhere around. We had four different dishes and all were amazing. But the enjoyment of watching the staff handle customers without reservations, who are pushy and rude, is worth every penny. Why would you expect to walk up to a restaurant for dinner of this caliber and not have called ahead? Let me tell you the hostess, who I imagine is one of the owners and waiters are not going to be sweet talked by girls or pushy entitled tourists. The answer will just be no - no reservation no seat ! A European dinner experience is supposed to be relaxed so sometimes all the tables are not full because other reservations are coming in soon. Both of our waiters were top-notch and with very fun Roman personalities.Straightforward, efficient and intelligent . Our dinner waiter... This was a great place to eat. It was recommended by a local person. We got to try traditional Roman food. We had for appetizer the Fiore du zucca and the burrata which was like a fresh mozzarella but more tasty. Then we had rigatoni carbonara and cinghiale ragú pasta which is wild boar. Both were great. Beware if you're a tourist who's not white. We wanted to eat here based off online accounts about the food. My husband and I stood in a line with about 6-7 people in front of us. With each person before us being put on a waitlist by the host (white male) and being told that their wait time would depend on how fast the tables clear in front of them. As my husband and I approached the front of the line, the same host asked us if we had a reservation. We did not, at which point this man proceeded to tell us "we are fully booked without reservations" essentially turning the only brown tourists in a sea of whiteness away. We could not fathom the audacity and the directness of the racism, this man acted like we did not witness him putting everyone else on a list and gave us a bogus excuse. If you're a POC Like us I highly recommend you refrain from giving this place business. There are plenty of places that will treat you with kindness and dignity and in 2022 there's no reason to put up with anything less. Please don't eat here. The food was awful.Let me explain- my partner ordered caprese salad, hard to mess up, right? We'll they messed it up. The tomatoes were pink, hard, mealy and flavorless. It's the middle of July! They should be able to get a hold of some ripe tomatoes!!! The mozzarella was horrible. I could get better mozzarella from Ralph's - and that isn't saying much. I had prosciutto and melon. Again the melon was hard and flavorless. It's summer and melons are in season - why such shitty produce? They have a extensive wine list but we were in the mood for just the house wine. You should be able to get decent house wine from any restaurant in Rome. Not so for Da Teo. The bread put on the table looked promising but it was flavorless., I had the rigatoni cacio e Pepe which was inedible - I had to send it back. I like my pasta Al dente but this was undercooked. It was crunchy and the cacio e pepe - a Roman specialty was dull. I can make it much better. My partner had ravioli with spinach and ricotta. All I can say is that it was edible but not very good. I hate to say this but the ravioli at chain restaurant Mangiiano's in Costa Mesa California is far better. We canceled the rest of our food. They brought us a plate of fresh cherries which were so delicious and the only thing I liked about the meal. Find a different restaurant if you want well made food. This place isn't it. read more

One of the best pastas I've had. This restaurant was actually our third choice for the night given the first 2 were fully booked and had crazy line ups. Regardless, it definitely did not disappoint and I'm so glad we had dinner here. Fried artichokes and calamari. It says fried but what I liked about it, it wasn't deep fried. More like stir fry with bread crumbs. Tasted AMAZING! Presentation might not look the best but I will never forget how tasty this dish was. The calamari was fresh and super tender but chewy, perfect texture. Artichokes just tasted great. Hubby had the Rigatoni carbonara (12 Euros). It was flavourful, tasted rich and heavy but way too salty for both our likings. I had the Tagliolini Cacio e pepe con gamberi e lime (16 Euro). Cacio e pepe sauce is a roman pasta dish made with simply cheese and pepper. Sounds simple but tasted absolutely delicious! This was served with fresh shrimp, and had a nice lime taste. The citrus added a nice acidity to the dish which made it less heavy. There were so many chunks of pasta. Loved this dish. I tried my best to finish the pasta but the portions were just too much. I don't get how other tables were able to finish an entire plate of pasta and still have room for their main course. Atmosphere was nice and cozy, perfect spot for dates. read more

This was the worst experience we have ever had in Trastevere. To start, the hostess (owner?) was rude and condescending as I was attempting to communicate via my broken Italian. We were asked to wait an hour (we obliged). After an hour and a half of waiting, my wife and I walked up to the hostess, asked again if we were going to finally get a table and she began ridiculing us in front of other patrons (she assumed we did not understand what she was saying about us). This trattoria was the absolute best Roman food I've ever had in my entire life. It was recommended to me by the local Yelp community manager (thanks Salvatore!) and I loved lunch so much that I had to come back for my last dinner! For pastas, most definitely get the Rigatoni Carbonara or the Amatriciana. The texture of the guanciale/pancetta is out of this world, with the crispy outside biting away into a juicy interior like a salty and savory candy bar. These were the two best pasta dishes I've had in Rome during my week here! Definitely get a plate of the Roman Vegetables, as they are generously portioned heaps of spinach, broccoli, sweet peppers, eggplant, and tomato/potato mash. Absolutely delicious and flavorful! I would recommend the pork chop main course, as it is cooked to perfection with so much flavor! The meatballs with lemon sauce are decent, but got nothing on the pork chop.
