If you are not Italian, do not go to this restaurant. The staff were very rude, arrogant and disrespectful. We waited almost an hour to place our orders and then it took nearly an hour for the dishes to arrive at our table. They came one at a time sometimes five or 10 minutes apart. There were five of us. Two of the dishes were pasta dishes. An hour to make a pasta dish! In the meantime, the tables with Italian clientele who came in after us, received their food always before us. I have a home in Firenze but still treated like a tourist which is fine. I am in Italy often, and like to return where there is good food and decent service --- However I visited there last night with my daughter who is a vegetarian and deathly allergic to peanuts. Besides being aloof and kind of rude the other times I was there (see other reviews, it's their "thing") we always had good food and it's a charming place. We then politely asked about peanuts and the waiter (there was not a language problem) informed us that they used peanut oil in "everything" and don't really use olive oil or vegetable oil. That any pasta and any salad would have peanuts. He said we could only get fish (which didn't make sense). The manager came over and started to chastise us saying there were no peanuts in the back, we were wrong (waiter was right there, avoiding his glare) and we needed to order something like fish (again fish).We explained we were told there were peanuts everywhere and of course my daughter was very anxious. I told we will have a drink of our wine since they brought it although it had not been served, and then go somewhere else. He kept chastising us....then came back and took our silverware and napkins - RETURNING THEM back the basket for the next server....then came back and took our bread! I drank glass of wine and went to the counter to pay. I politely asked that they at least waive pane/coperto since we were there 10 minutes, they were extremely rude, and the literally took the bread away. He started up on us again, very loudly. We exchanged words and then we left and had a WONDERFUL meal down the street at Mama Gina's. There are lots of great places in Florence, please find a restaurant different than this one. read more

First of all, I am American and ate here not once but 2x as the food was NOT overpriced and was some of the best true REAL Italian food in the city. It felt like grandma was in the kitchen, and in fact she was. Artichoke salad was prepared right as u walk in and was beyond perfect. All of our dishes were fantastic. Best Torta di Nonna I have had EVER and found out the owner himself made it this am. This is a traditional non fancy local place where few tourists go tg because perhaps the lower uncalled for ratings scare them away. Don't expect to be coddled - we ate on a Sunday and the place was jammed with locals and family and that's what true Italian restaurants should be... please keep up with the negative reviews so the rest of us can enjoy this place without tourists that have no idea how good this place really is. read more

We rented an apartment next door to this restaurant and went here the night of our arrival, out of convenience. It turned out to be one of the best meals we hs during our 3 weeks in Italy. The artichoke, rocket and Parmesan salad was amazing and I watched them like a hawk making it, so I could make it at home. We also had the wild boar pasta, some other pasta dishes and the tiramisu, panne cotta and lemon cake. All dishes and desserts were fantastic. The panne cotta was the best I've ever had. We made a reservation and returned another night, because the food was great. You know you're in a great local restaurant, when you're the only non-Italian in the joint and that was our experience both times that we had great meals here. We will definitely be back! read more

Food meh, seafood tasted really wrong and the worst service I have ever received! I think that the servers and other staff deal with a lot of tourists which could definitely be annoying but wow, they were exceptionally rude. This was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. If I could give less than one star I would. Food was not good. Got a disappointing artichoke salad, tried to be optimistic after for the rest of our meal because we wanted to get some veggies in. Next course was the pappardelle ragu which was the best dish but still coming in very average. I cook a lot and I've made WAY better sauce that was more exciting than this. The veal Milanese was AWFUL, under-seasoned so I had to add salt to it and it was very dry. The table they put us at was right next to the kitchen which I was kind of excited for, they ended up breaking a plate and half swept the area so there was broken glass everywhere. Now for the service, I usually don't care if the service sucks but if the food is bad too, come on! We are Americans so I understand wanting to keep things local but I really wish they just turned us away since they were busy and didn't have any tables near the front. If you are a tourist, STAY AWAY. Our Airbnb host recommended this spot and I'm going to tell them the same thing as I wrote in this review. If you're the owner and you see this, just turn people away if you're going to give this poor of a performance. Kitchen should be ashamed of themselves too. Comical that this place is open. I live in San Francisco and I'm very aware that other cultures don't take service seriously but the food makes up for it. This was not the case. Price: 35€ for a Bistecca Fiorentina Highly Recommended (MUST GO!)... This Trattoria is across the river from the main town of Florence, so its a nice little walk from the main tourist attractions (thats one way to know its good). The service was not the best, however, from my experiences in Italy, it is normal to have to grab the cameriere's attention as they are busy taking orders and serving meals to different clients. The good thing is you don't feel rushed to order or finish your food, so you can enjoy and savor the meal. Prices are clearly stated on the menu and the ambiance is intimate, yet energetic. By energetic I mean, people are conversing and camerieri are constantly moving around. I skipped the antipasto here and jumped straight to the Secondo Piatto as I was in the mood to try an authentic Bistecca Fiorentina, and I must say I could not have stumbled upon a better trattoria. The cameriere brought the 1" thick T-Bone for me to look at before it was cooked (what a beautiful sight to see). Nicely marbled with a nice pink color and a thick fatty edge for flavor. When the steak was served it was nicely seared on the outside and cooked up to 1/4" along the perimeter of the steak with a juicy pink, but not raw center (perfectly cooked and juicy). Cutting through the steak was like cutting through butter and it was served warm, but not off the grill, so you know it had time to sit. The steak was more than enough and a great deal for the price and flavor (every piece of that steak was served, no skimping out). The leftover juices were ideal for dipping the bread aftwerwards. I ate the steak with a 375 ml bottle of DOCG Chianti Classico wine. There is no other way to eat a delicious steak. You MUST go to Trattoria de Carmine when you are in Florence. After dinner, we ate the Torta della Nonna. Best Torta della Nonna I have ever eaten. Not too sweet, not too tangy, and the texture and quantity of the cream filling was just right. It paired perfectly with an espresso doppio (I highly recommend dessert). NOTE: You must try this place and go with an empty stomach. It is worth every penny. read more

YUM Perfectly fab evening in Florence from start to finish thanks to our hotel rec and rez. Our 730 Rez was just ahead of their busy time We ate outside on a covered patio w fresh air and a little stinky smoking. No AC inside. Nephews dug into capese salad (doesn't like tomatoes but ate them up) and chicken salad (w veggies and home made mayo). We had mixed salad and simple green salad. Then the boys shared a steak. Florence likes their steaks very rare --- so we confirmed "pink" after the Russian couple sent theirs back like 3 times (is leather what you get after we'll done?). We had thinly slice cold veal w some tuna mayo caper that was gr8 on wicked hot evening and I had eggplant pasta. Oh and a liter of house chianti -- good but they had split of chianti we missed. Boys held out for gelato on the walk home. We had fresh peaches in some light broth (a little booze maybe ) and a raspberry tart. So good. Italian ladies finished about the same time and had biscotti w vino spiritu (dunking). Many more locals having wine waiting on tables when we left. The absolute worst food we had in Italy. WAY OVERPRICED, disgusting food, and Rude, rude, rude service. We felt very unwelcome. My pasta did not taste fresh. In fact, most dishes tasted frozen or old. I ordered a pasta with mushrooms and it smelled terrible, like old mushrooms. The mushrooms also tasted canned and dissolved on my tongue. It was so terrible I was worried I would get food poisoning. And since this was the last place we ate during our trip, it left us with a bitter taste/on a sour note. Avoid this trap. read more

Boyfriend had fresh fish, I was so into mine, not sure what type he had, but he cleaned the plate! Relaxed atmosphere, true Italian experience. Okay you ugly Americans giving poor ratings for "slow" service and no AC, get a life, relax and enjoy the culture! I loved spending time talking without being interrupted numerous times by a waiter. Americans need to be less pretentious, slow down and enjoy the experience. Immerse yourselves in the local culture and let's get rid of that "ugly American" label. We were a large party -- of 20+, so we looked for a restaurant that would accommodate a bunch of tired Americans for lunch. While the food was fine (certainly not the best meal I've ever had, but we were so tired from walking we would have been happy with a plain burger at this point), that we have little to complain about. We had beer and house wine, which was fine, and the bruschetta and crostini were also good. Because we were such a large party, we ordered dishes in family style, including pasta al ragu, scallopine e fughi, and some vegetables. All was perfectly acceptable, though I thought the prices were just a tad higher than other restaurants for the same fare. The waiters can be a little harsh, but we didn't take offense. We were warned beforehand. Would I go back here? Probably not. But only because there are so many places to eat in Rome. Would I go here if it was on my way somewhere? Absolutely. It was fine. We came upon this place after a long walk around Florence. Don't feel threatened by the menu being only in Italian, the waiter will be more than happy to help in English (which we discovered by overhearing at another table). My wife ordered the Minestrone soup which was excellent and a very large amount (plenty if you wanted that to be your only course). I ordered the ravioli which was filled with ricotta, basil and a melted butter sauce over; another good choice! This would have been enough food, but we did however order a second course of beef (very tender and tasty) and chicken with mushroom sauce along with the Caesar salad. Despite already feeling full from the prima, it tasted so good we had no problem finishing. I am sorry to see others did not have the same experience we had, but if you do happen find yourself close and hungry, I would not let some of the negative critiques sway you from trying. read more

The beginning and end were very good -- fresh arugula and artichoke salad to start and excellent panna cotta with strawberry syrup (which tasted like berries, not just sugar) to finish. Primi and secondi piatti were so so.
