Having just got into Firenze for our first time and staying nearby... We were hungry for lunch and happened upon this place. We got there right as they opened for the day and checked out the menu... it looked appealing and the venue looked great, so we gave it a try. They have a great menu here... loaded with some great, traditional Florence dishes, as well as all the Italian favs! The service was very nice and the venue is beautiful, slightly upscale. Our server helped us quite nicely and made very nice suggestions, as well as described the menu perfectly. We started with a complimentary bowl of their bread soup which was so very tasty! Next up was to split their meatballs, which were seasoned very nicely and perfectly tender! Out entrées were excellent as well and be sure to get a side of their beans in tomato sauce, they were outstanding! Overall - Great eats here! read more

Everything about this Trattoria was amazing. We were looking for a place to eat and the restaurant we originally wanted to try down the street from Mamma Gina was packed and wait time was 1.5 hours. We decided to give Mamma Gina a shot and were so happy with the decision. Food was superb. The house wine was one of our favorite wines. Morellino ... appetizers were absolutely delicious. This place was recommended to us a couple of times, so we came in with high expectations. The service: Boo. We were given a menu entirely in Italian. When we asked what things were, we were asked to "google it". That would've been a lot to look up. When they saw us struggling, they gave us an old menu in English (shouldn't they have offered this to us from the beginning). We were told the prices were incorrect on there and some of the items were no longer available. As expected, it took us time to order our food, which the waiters were clearly frustrated by. The food: It was okay. It was watery and bland. We think we didn't order the "right" and "popular" items. We saw others order the steak, and maybe that's what they're better known for. Avoid this place if you can help it. The only reason I would give it a star is because I think the staff genuinely tried to be helpful. This place needs at least 2 more waiters during dinner. Our meatball appetizer took 45 minutes to come out, meanwhile our neighbors who came after us had finished their 3 course meal. After the initial 45 minutes waiting for the meatballs, our simple pastas took another hour to come out. I was fortunate to have some boar along with my SALT... that is to say the boar and sauce was extremely salty... fortunately the wine was good. It was a little confusing when we walked in because the front was completely empty. We were in the area looking for a restaurant we meant to it at, but when we got there the wait was nearly two hours. It was a Friday night and I didn't too much about the wait. We were starving and figured this spot would suffice. They seated us in the back. One observation my friend and I made was that all the diners were American. It made me assume the place catered mostly to tourists which is not really my thing. But as we were starving we stayed. Not one of my favorite meals, but the appetizers were on point. That was the highlight of my meal. The entrees were so so. The staff were pretty nice. I say that because they took care of a drunk American who had issues getting to the bathroom that they had to physically help her. read more

This restaurant was highly recommended by my friend and I am so glad I got a chance to try it during my recent trip to Florence. Their florentine steak is absolutely amazing! We ordered the steak medium but there was still a good amount of pink in it. I typically don't like steak that's a little raw but their steak was soooo good! It was perfectly cooked on the outside and nicely flavored. The inside wasn't chewy at all which I was afraid of. We only ordered one to share but definitely wished we had each ordered our own. It was THAT good! We also shared a seafood risotto and tagliatelle with boar sauce. Both dishes were delicious as well! Skip the bread and definitely save room for the pasta. read more

My husband and I went here earlier tonight. I wish we hadn't. All at the same time we ordered with the waiter: the selection of cheese (don't bother, it wasn't anything to write home about), a bottle of the house wine (totally fine), the truffle pasta, and the boar pasta. We never received the pastas. After an hour of waiting we got neither of our entrees. The two tables that came more than 20 minutes after we ordered got their food (which was the same as what we had ordered) so we talked to the server and he kept telling us it would be right out. We had no more water or wine. When it still wasn't out after the hour we asked for the bill. The server was very apologetic and tried to get us to keep waiting. We waited an hour after ordering and knew even if the food had been amazing, it would have been hard to enjoy. Food is good. I ordered a prawn risotto, it's amazing. When we came to this restaurant two days later, I order it again! It's very infrequent to me, usually I will not order the same course in the trip because I always want to try something new. My son ordered a Ravioli, spinach and ricotta ravioli with mushroom cream. It's good too. The Daddy had an Ossobuco, it's Tuscany veal shank with porcini mushrooms. Btw, the price is very nice. We went to this place twice when we stayed in the Firenze. Frozen food (if you have a table by the kitchen, you'll see it) but arranged nicely, hit wines (don't take expensive ones, it's a waiste), and beware of the bread charge... 3 euros per head. Definitely not the best in the city but there is so many tourist traps than a well wrapped frozen or Knorr sauce and some pasta or meat is fine... Don't expect too much of this one. I rated 3 for the location and the food, still above average in spite of their use of frozen food and sauces in powder. read more

We ate late (9 pm or so) and the restaurant was packed with Italians -- we were the only non-Italians in there. The fagioli (a local specialty) were especially amazing, and the house wine was great! This was an amazing restaurant which had the most amazing tiramisu, gnocchi, minestrone I have ever had!!!!! The service was fantastic, despite being so packed, they remembered us every time we came back and we felt like we were a part of their family. In addition, I normally order a lot of lemons in wedges instead of slices, which is something that most waiters, despite being kind about it, ignore or simply do not care. However, Mamma Gina did not and gave me a sh*t ton of lemons. It was great. We were looking for a place late at night that would accommodate our family of 4 different urges. We went in and my first impression was: let's get out of here. Place looked rundown and waiter was initially a little annoying. But it all ended great with super good italian comfort food and the waiters being all very nice. My daughter asked if they had carbonara and they didn't. So she ordered something else. When the food arrived they had actually prepared her a spaghetti carbonara. My wife's and daughter bolognese reminded me of home cooked meal and so my ossobuco. We had a blast in a very casual setting. Loved this restaurant! Our waiters spoke perfect English, offered great service and made us feel right at home. This was the best meal I had in Florence. Absolutely delicious! It was only steps away from our hotel, but we didn't discover it until our last night, or else we certainly would have gone back again. I had the bruscetta, spinach ravioli in mushroom sauce and fried zucchini and my girlfriend had the ribolitta soup and pasta with Bolognese sauce. We had a great tour guide who recommended this based on value and good pasta...he was 110% correct. The gnocchi was just terrific...we eat it often in the best places in the U.S. and this worked to top of our list. However, it did not end there....just great great food and super service. The service is old school....very experienced gentlemen who are there any time you need anything. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Looked cute from the outside and they had trip advisor reviews that were good so we went in. The first thing that went wrong was our server asking if we ate McDonalds in the states and then commenting on how much we ordered- that we must be hungry. Ok, I get it. We are both plus size so he was obviously commenting on our weight. However, we ordered what Italians do- one antipasti, pasta dishes each and one meat dish to share. Yes, ordering two pastas may have been more than usual, but we hadn't eaten since breakfast and the restaurant we ate at last night (when we did the same thing) didn't comment at all. Bread was super stale. It had probably been from the day before. There's a difference between hard bread and old bread. The antipasti comes out and it was frozen shrimp and the avocado was brown (so it was pre cut). The prices for frozen food are ridiculous. We actually pretended my wife was sick so we could leave without a scene. I don't appreciate frozen shrimp covered with mayonnaise mixed with ketchup as a salsa rosa. My favorite was the waiter telling us we don't know what we are missing as I am exiting. We left and shared a bottle of wine down the street to wipe the bad taste from our mouth. I don't know who is reviewing this place and saying it is good- but they don't know what good food is. If you have the time, go to the friends bar down the street. Oh what a terrible experience. We were greeted by the infamous waiter with red glasses who had body odour. The bread was so stale, and we asked for olive oil to which our waiter with BO who curtly said NO. Funnily enough, he was extremely nice to the lady who was sitting beside us (they probably knew each other). At this point, I was upset, but I decided to give the restaurant a chance. So while waiting for our food, i went to get the wifi password. Surprise, it did not work! I asked the manager what the password was who then asked our waiter, with red glasses, for the password. He flat out lies to us and tells us that the wifi does not work. Despite the fact that I could see the wifi available to join on my phone. At this point, we had had enough of this joke of a place, and walked out. Let me spare you the trouble. Don't go to this place.
