My sister and I were having a girl's night this past Saturday, and we wanted to order some good pasta. Upon scouring GrubHub, we stumbled upon Trattoria Ora, and we were impressed by the pasta selections- most of the pastas aren't your run of the mill pastas, they're much more sophisticated. They're also all under $20, and come with your choice of salad, which I say is a great deal for the quality of the food you're getting. We started off with a classic caprese salad, which tasted fresh and delicious as always- you can't go wrong with a dish like that! There were only 3 stacks of mozzarella, tomato and basil, so bear that in mind- you might need to order more if you're a larger group. For our mains, I got the Farfalle Dolcino, which is bowtie pasta, shrimp, asparagus, and sun-dried tomatoes. The sauce was light yet extremely flavorful, and tasted a bit lemony. Pasta was cooked perfectly as well. My sister ordered the Rigatoni Buttero, rigatoni with tomato sauce, peas and spicy Italian sausage. Our meal also came with thick sliced Italian bread, which was great for soaking up the sauces. Even though we ordered delivery, we had a very pleasant experience. The courier came prior to the expected delivery window, so we got our food a few minutes earlier than expected. It was packed perfectly and was a great temperature. This place is a hidden gem in Astoria! We came here on Friday night to celebrate my birthday and were seated immediately (although we made a reservation just in case) as the place was empty. The setting is rather dark and for a more intimate dinner. Perfect place to have a quiet birthday dinner with my best friend. As we were looking over the menu, they brought us out some warm sourdough bread with olives and chunks of Parmesan cheese. Who can say no to carbs? To start we shared the fried calamari. I ended up getting the lamb chops and she got the sirloin steak. I don't know if the waitress was new or not because when we asked for the sides she gave a whole list which included mashed potatoes and vegetables. We got serviced one plate with half roasted potatoes and the other half steamed broccoli.... The lamb chops and steak were flavorful. Mine wasn't well done like I asked but I hate complaining about food. Both protein portions were good so we both able to take a good amount of it home. Our first round of drinks was a Negroni and a Manhattan. Our second round was a glass of wine ... and I think because we were one out of three tables there, he had filled our glass wines up twice; at no charge. Also every time I took a sip of my water, they came around to refill it. It was a bit much for me. We didn't get dessert as the food and bread were so filling (we had two baskets of bread). We stayed about half an hour after we asked for them to pack up our leftovers and they forgot to give it to us. Came here recently with some family and had a mediocre experience. The restaurant was empty but also extremely hot. Service was fine but their was an allergy mishap which is frankly not OK. We asked if their pesto was dairy free, because pesto SHOULD have Parmesan or Pecorino... but was told theirs was dairy free. Not sure how or why. When my sister threw up in the restaurant bathroom from her dairy allergy, we asked again, if it contained dairy. The waiter said it shouldn't and went to go ask the chef, came back and said no he didn't add any dairy. How do you not know if your pesto contains dairy? Especially when it's one of the ingredients in pesto?! But then he came back to tell us the chef said there's no dairy in the pesto pasta dish. There was also no other wait staff which made me think he was also the manager or owner? But honestly, how do you not know the ingredients in your own restaurant? Let alone a pesto dish in an Italian restaurant. I think for that fact alone, I wouldn't go back or recommend... there are plenty of other Italian restaurants in the area to try and these guys were simply the closest. read more

This restaurant is located an interesting area. At night I wouldn't really want to walk the neighborhood but that aside the restaurant itself is big and clean. It was empty when we went and there were 2 waitresses. We started with the calamari which was delicious, it was really well done, crispy with a nice bite. The bread is good and the Olive's very tasty. My companions ordered risotto with seafood which was pretty decent especially considering I do not like risotto. It was dinner right. Menus were illegible since they were printed on paper and smeared.due to water marks - First impression is everything, waitress was not pleasant at all, believe her name was Elena. Calamari was overdone. Ribeye steak was ordered medium rare and came out extremely well done. When I mentioned it, I was told she would mention it to chef. Also, never even offered a steak knife, had to request it! Really shocked that they did not try to make it right. This was my second visit but don't think l'll be going back unless they try harder to keep my business. At the very least, I wasn't even offered desert or coffee for the lackluster experience. My fault. I should've looked at the reviewer base more closely. Delivery site said 45-60 mins. Took 1.5 hours. Called at 70 mins. "Oh yeah! It left a while ago. There in a minute!" Called at 90 mins. Restaurant still open. No pick up. Ok potions for most things...and the salads looked nice...and had quality greens...however... Risotto is a creamy Italian rice dish. As pictured, this is dry yet undercooked, veg seems to be frozen; I've had better from a box. Asked for pasta (one cheap starch) to substitute the potato side (another cheap starch). Not done. Got no call about it. But it's all good, because the spaghetti bolognese was not meaty, weird cook to the pasta, not great flavor, or much flavor at all. Really small filets for the chicken Marsala. This place is a cute place on a corner on a quiet block. So me and my friend went there on a Friday around 6:30. We walked in to see we were the only people there . Lights were on high, no music. Smelt like they just mopped the floors. Wasn't sure if they were open... but a very friendly waitress took us to our seats. The lights were then dimmed and music went on. I would of rathered that to have been done before guests come into a place to eat. We spent a long time there and only one other couple came in to eat. And it's a big place ! I'm surprised no one was there on a Friday night. The food was quite tasty with a large portion and the service was spectacular. The wine list was great as well. I'm giving only 3 stars because I felt very awkward walking into the place that they were clearly not ready for us. A restaurant should be ready for costumers to come in at all times. I order delivery pretty often since I have a newborn and have spent more money for underwhelming food. I ordered the Salmon Fettuccine and the calamari. It came in 45mins and was still hot. They sent a free salad with dressing, fresh bread and little biscotti's. I loved all of it. The fettuccine was delicious and you can tell the sauce is made to order. Went last night and had such an amazing meal. It's a block off Astoria Blvd on a quiet street. The decor is simple and elegant with a beautiful bar. We ordered the beet salad and the caprese salad to start and were not disappointed. The presentation was lovely and the arugula so fresh. For our main course my hubby got the lamb and I got the spaghetti bolognese (I'm a simple girl). Everything was fresh and the sauces were beautiful. We ordered the Calamari appetizer, Bronzini fish special, and Lamb Chops. Everything was so delicious, the lamb chops melted in your mouth, the fish was so fresh. So my girl and I unknowingly arrived 30 minutes before closing time and ended up getting some of the best service and food in Queens. Nobody else was there and we could've easily been turned away, but instead, Mili (our waitress/host) welcomed us happily and made sure we got something to eat. First off, the decor is great. Chicken parmigiana wasn't on the menu but the cooks were able to make it for me and it was fantastic. My girl's pasta was amazing. We got the rigatoni dish with sweet Italian sausage, it was lacking flavor, and the tomato sauce it was tossed in was super watery. We ordered a Caesar salad on the side and the dressing it came with was literally mayonnaise. We also added garlic bread on the side and it was stale and dry. Literally stale, non toasted bread with garlic powder sprinkled on and no oil or butter. We also got the farfalle dish with shrimp, asparagus, and sun dried tomatoes. The food came out piping hot and on pace. The pastas are amazing, from the humble spaghetti bolognese to the divine rigatoni a la buttera, all were perfectly cooked and seasoned. Five delicious lamb chops followed that were cooked to perfection. Finish that off with a slice of ricotta cheesecake and cappuccino and the meal was a foodgasm. This restaurant is definitely a hidden gem. My boyfriend and I went there for the first time last night. The food was delicious and the staff was so kind and attentive. They started us off with a complimentary bread basket, olives and cheese. The cheese was such a nice touch, especially since we both ordered wine. We ordered the calamari, salmon and steak for dinner. All of which were delicious and the portions were more than enough! We decided to indulge in dessert as well. He got the apple strudel and I tried tartufo for the first time. Both were absolutely amazing. When they brought us a check they also treated us to a complimentary small glass of their dessert wine. One of these fruit flies ended up in my boyfriend's wine, but since it was towards the end of the glass we didn't mention it to the staff. HIDDEN GEM: This is a must try! I have been on two occasions now and both times have been incredible. There aren't many great restaurants in 'West Astoria,' so this is a really nice addition and is now a regular favorite for my wife and I. The first time I had the squid ink seafood pasta special which was incredible. Second time had the rigatoni buttero--it arrived very hot and fresh, the pasta was perfectly al dente. They start every meal with complementary parmesan cheese and bread (I have to say the bread is horrible, but hey it's free and the cheese makes up for it!). Decent selection of wine at reasonable prices. Total for 2 entrees, an appetizer (the beet with goat cheese salad was wonderful!) and a bottle of wine was under $85, which is amazing! For some reason it's been pretty empty both times we've been, hopefully this will help convince some more people to give it a try. read more

This place is amazing. The food is fantastic, the staff is attentive and the atmosphere is so nice. It's not a splurge, but it's not a cheap night out either. They start you off with bread, cheese and olives- which are all delicious- and end the meal with a dessert wine (all complimentary) Last night we got a port wine and an ice wine. It's a great place for a first date, or for a group get together. There's one 8 person table in the back. There is a full bar, but wine is their main service. So far we've gotten the calamari (so light and fresh and to die for), the caprese (amazing!!) the papardelle (seasoned perfectly, with fresh noodles) the chicken ora, (prosciutto on chicken!!) the chicken balsamico (this sauce!! So good), veal piccata (i didn't eat that but my fancy bf said it was splendid) the broccoli rabe, mushroom risotto, and Brussels sprouts (all perfect). To top it all off- the desserts!!! The tiramisu is some of the best I've ever had, and the ricotta cheesecake made me feel feelings :) Moral of the story- this place is amazing. I hope it survives cause I love it so much!
