We were staying nearby, and we didn't feel like walking back through the crowds, so we thought we'd give this place a try. We were able to walk in for an early dinner without a reservation in late September, but it did fill up more as the evening continued. We enjoyed the Dante salad which included prosciutto and Parmesan cheese along with greens and tomatoes. Dressing was olive oil and vinegar in bottles which was perfect. I had the Florentine Risotto which reminded me a bit of a stuffed pepper filling; it was good comfort food for a slightly rainy evening. The panna cotta for dessert was creamy and delicious and the cappuccino went nicely with dessert. Service was good and the atmosphere was quiet and relaxing. So I went out and read some of the 1 star reviews. I have to say these reviews are posted by delusional people. We ate at this restaurant 4 times for both lunch and dinner. The service was excellent. The manager was extremely patient and understanding. I watched the poor guy split separate tickets on a table of about 12 American college students. We had their special one night, which consisted of a 2' T-bone steak, bruschetta, a bottle of Barbera wine, roasted potatoes and desert for 60 Euros (~73 USD). The prices were more than reasonable, The food was excellent and the servers were attentive. The ambiance was amazing. Just be sure to tell the waiter how you want your steak to be cooked. Now, it helps if you speak Italian. This eliminates any confusion these 1 star people may have had. I personally recommend this restaurant. It was a true find. read more

This place was just what we needed! You get a Florentine Steak, bruschetta, a bottle of wine, and choice of still or sparkling water for €50. The staff is SO nice here. They speak English, too and really want you to appreciate the food. They even asked me how we enjoy the steak and if it's cooked to our liking. I don't know many places around here that ask if it's okay, because they typically like to serve steak the way the chef intends it to be cooked and there's little room to have steak the way you prefer. It's the Florentine way! We actually ordered it the usual way but they STILL wanted to make sure we were happy. The wait staff was wonderful, greeting everyone that passes by and they stand at the door to wait for their guests to service their every need. The steak was well seasoned! This American girls needs additional salt and pepper most places around here I visit but this steak was perfect. I have a mixed opinion of this restaurant, especially when it comes to the ambiance. As a student coming here for free wine with dinner this place can be a good choice to have long conversations, lots of wine, and getting to know the chatty owners. However if you're an adult trying to have an intimate dinner I wouldn't come here. Eat dinner here if you want free wine and cheap food. At lunch time the scene is definitely a lot more professional and calm. The food was alright. My friend only ate half her pizza and asked for a Togo box and the waitress yelled no and picked up the plate and left. Our waiter was incredibly rude. We weren't served for 30 minutes after getting here. We were completely respectful and had to walk up to get someone's attention. It still took 10 more minutes. We asked for white wine and we're told "no". We were only one glass in (almost completely sober). We are unsure about why there was so much negativity towards us. The food was alright. We asked for more wine almost 4 times and we're not served once. He also asked if we wanted water twice, and brought it 10 minutes after we asked the second time. We arrived in Florence around 3:30pm and most restaurants were either closed since it was Sunday, or closed in between lunch and dinner. Since we were famished and didn't want to wait until 6pm to eat, I searched on Yelp and found Dante! As other reviews have mentioned, Dante offers a more Americanized menu and it seems like the clientele is a majority of foreign exchange students. My husband had the fettuccine alfredo and I had the dante pasta (red creamy sauce with mushrooms and rigatoni pasta). The portions were larger and our entrees were very generous on the sauce. Service was slow and our food took awhile but they might have been understaffed due to the meal time. Pricing was a little high compared to other meals as well. As students, Dante's came highly recommended for its fun atmosphere and unlimited wine. I came to celebrate my birthday here and made the reservation one week in advance. When I showed up, they made my group wait an hour. We were frustrated and starving and the staff was not apologetic. Despite the rough start though, we had a good time. A few weeks later my friend had her birthday and although hesitant, decided to give Dante's a second chance and made a reservation a week in advance. Once again, not only did they also fail to honor the reservation this time for over a full hour, but they were unapologetic and dismissive. They kept lying telling us 5 minutes and would not seat us. They would not apologize or admit to not honoring the reservation. Once seated, we were cast into a corner downstairs-isolated, dewey, and smelly. They did not give us menus, enough cups or utensils. They then proceeded to mess up half of our orders forgetting some of my friends meals entirely and bringing us pasta instead of chicken which our gluten free friend could not eat. Every request took hours, with a small request of bringing balsamic for an undressed salad taking over 45 minutes. Aside from the waiter Jimmy who was kind and hardworking, rude staff and will not be returning. I do not recommend unless you have absolutely nowhere to be and are okay being treated like gum on a shoe. Unless you're willing to have a 4 hour dinner where only about 30 minutes consists of eating, I don't recommend. read more

The only positive about this place is the fair price of food for the location. When it comes to friendliness and attentiveness, it's nonexistent. Dante is a very popular restaurant with international students because they provide free bottles of house wine. When you walk in, the restaurant is filled almost exclusively with American girls and each table is decorated with at least one bottle of their "famous" house wine. The food was relatively inexpensive and the price certainty reflected the quality. I had by far THE WORST meal I've ever had in florence. I ordered a simple dish, spaghetti carbonara. The pasta was completely overcooked. I do not believe that there was any egg in the pasta. It tasted almost identical to my friend's fettuccine Alfredo (also disgusting) apart from the addition of bacon. The dish was far too creamy and overly peppered. Ultimately I found it completely inedible. At trattoria Dante's do not expect remarkable service. I found all of the wait staff extremely rude. When I asked the waitress a simple question (in Italian) she could not answer it for me and clearly did not want to. I also had an experience I have never had in Italy-- the waitress brought our check before we asked for it. My first experience with ribolitta (Florentine vegetable and bread soup) came at the rec of our friendly local waitress and it filled both expectation and belly. You can get wine by the half- or full liter or a whole 14" pizza fir the same very affordable price. We came in at a late lunch time and had great service due to slower dining room. It flows like water. I'm very drunk. The order: 2 queen pizzas, spicy tomato ravioli, Salmon penne, 4 cheese pizza, a dump truck of carbonara. Word on the street is that you need to keep food on your plate to keep the wine flowing like water- so I got a pizza. My plate was always full because I'm 5"2' and cannot finish an entire pizza by myself, but nonetheless I did a pretty good job on both the wine and my meal. My friend on her spicy ravioli: "at first I saw ONLy 8 RAVIOLIS. I need more raviolis" My other friend: "I took the bandaids off my nipples. I need my pizza to be flavorful. This restaurant had a great combination of delicious food and excellent service. Our server was very sociable and eager to take care of us as busy as he waiting on other tables. We ordered the meat and cheese antipasti platter which was amazing - great selection of salami, ham, and a variety of cheeses as well as olives and peppers. My meal was the gnocchi with sausage and truffle and it was done extremely well. The truffle flavor did not overtake the other flavors and the gnocchi were done just right.
