We had dinner at Porretta's Saturday and it was great. It was our second visit in recent weeks. The bread comes out hot and it's outstanding. Very nice salad with mixed greens and excellent dressing. We had lasagna, eggplant parm and pasta with vodka sauce. We were too full for dessert so took home some yummy Tiramisu . Service is good and the atmosphere is homey at this family owned place. This review is mostly just for a cheese thin crust, well done, square pizza - it looked great when we got it but the sauce was kinda sweet and a kinda bland. We added hot peppers and parmesan but it was still just ok. We also got the mushrooms which were fine and a side of mostaccioli which was also just ok. The service was really great so I would give it another shot, I'd just probably try something else. read more

This is my go to thin crust "tavern style "pizza when I visit Chicago in the Jefferson Park neighborhood. Normally we take out but tonight we actually ate in the dining room, which was cozy and comfortable. Service is always super friendly. Nice family owned restaurant. We opted for a medium sausage pizza along with some calamari. They bring you hot fresh bread when you sit down Pizza had plenty of cheese and sausage and a thin crispy crust. Ordered a pizza from here on a whim, turns out I found my new go-to pie joint! I initially ordered for delivery through a 3rd party only to have to restaurant call me direct to confirm my order and let me know that I ordered incorrectly and was being charged extra for no reason. I thought this was beyond cool of them. They cancelled the order and I was able to place a new one directly on the phone and save over $10! All class and the best part is the pizza arrived super quick piping hot and delicious! Not sure why I didn't know about this place sooner but glad I do now! I've been ordering pizza from Porretta's for quite some time. Always delivered hot and fresh, with ample toppings and cooked to perfection. Tonight I decided to dine in for the first time. It was a solo run since I had other errands to attend to in the area a bit later. The dining room was intimate, just the right size and not too crowded on this Thursday night. The table offered wasn't too my liking, so I was able to select the one I wanted, by the window in the main dining area. I liked the lovely table settings that were spotlessly clean. The lit candle on the table (unscented thankfully) added to the ambience of the restaurant. The glassware and decanter of ice cold water was a nice touch. My Italian staple is rigatoni with marina and meatballs. Dinner was served with a soup or salad. I opted for the Minestrone soup, that was served with baked bread, butter, or olive oil and parmesan cheese. Everything was prepared to perfection, attractively presented and was delicious. The hostess and wait staff were very attentive and friendly. Courses were properly spaced and plates removed as needed. This added to the enjoyment of the meal, not being rushed or left to languish. The cost of the meal was very reasonable. My only regret is not having come here sooner. One of the best meals that I've had in Jefferson Park. read more

That hot honey pizza with one topping (I'm not even sure what the topping is!) it's incredible. Sweet, spicy, and perfectly balanced. And the vodka sauce? Wow. It's fine. Nothing remarkable. Unfortunately "thin crust" was too thick causing it to be limp and doughy throughout. The mushrooms had a strange texture, similar to canned. There was nothing about this pizza that separated it from others in terms of flavor or preparation. Asked for our pizza to be uncut as we will throw it in the oven for a few minutes if needed. Tomato sauce used actually has seasoning and flavor, its not that bland tasteless tomato paste you find on many pizza. There is a good ratio of sauce, to cheese, to topping to crust. Crust is thin crispy and perfect. Salads were meh, wings are a hard pass. I have never dined in so can't speak to ambiance, and can only speak to the delivery service. I am allergic to tomatoes and black pepper, but I really wanted to have pizza. I decided to message them through Facebook. It was a sunday afternoon, and I honestly wasn't expecting a response that day, much less within 15 minutes. I explained my situation and asked if they offered a sauceless pizza because it isn't difficult to make. (Fresh garlic and olive oil on the base of the dough instead of sauce). They responded yes they do. Great. I had inquired about the mushrooms and spinach, they responded right away that the mushrooms n spinach had been sautéed in black pepper. 12/15/18 - My company Christmas Party was here at Trattoria Porretta Ristorante. Last year it was @ Alta Villa in Addison. Usually banquet food leaves a lot to be desired. Trattoria Porretta is light years better then the latter We started w/cocktails @ 6:30 along w/appetizers. The appetizers served were delicious. I had meatballs that were absolutely delicious as were the pieces of Italian sausage. They had small slices of Italian bread with excellent red sauce & mozzarella cheese melted on top. Other appetizers served were triangular pieces of filo dough with spinach & small breaded mozzarella sticks. All the appetizers were good especially the meatballs. (Sorry no pictures) At the tables we had 2 bottles of wine, 1 red & 1 white. Dinner started w/a large antipasto platter. The platter had a small dish in the center w/baby mozzarella & sun dried tomatoes in olive oil surrounded by prosciutto w/salami underneath the prosciutto. The platter also had pieces of mozzarella cheese, green olives, red peppers & pepperoncini. Ahh deliciouso. As w/most groups the food was served banquet style. We started w/a cup of vegetable minestrone soup and a salad (neither was memorable). The first main course of baked boneless skinless chicken breasts came out. Many times you get chicken & it's dry. This was cooked to perfection, tender & moist. The green beans were also cooked perfectly still w/a bit of a crisp texture and not over cooked. The baked potatoes were very good, but the slices of roast beef were nothing remarkable. The meal ended w/a serving of lemon sorbet which was light and vert refreshing and the perfect end of a good meal w/just the right lemon tang & sweetness to cleanse the palate. Overall the meal was pretty good (better then most) for a banquet style. The service was good & the company was awesome with my wife, my buddy Brian (30 plus years & his daughter, along w/my co workers. Add I the open bar and it made for a great evening. If the banquet style dinner was that good I plan on going back and dining @ Trattoria Porretta Ristorante. read more

Let's start off by saying that this place convinced a Southsider that the Northside has better pizza AND pasta. We all know how difficult it is finding the perfect pizza place but Poretta's is top of my list. One bite and you'll be hooked. But pizza is not the only thing that's great here..........because their Baked Mostaccioli comes in a strong second place. My boyfriend really liked their Chicken Alfredo as well. Also I want to commend their service and delivery. We have always gotten great delivery drivers who are efficient and really kind. I don't think I've ever said that about another place. I have to give this place three stars because the waitress Kate is literally the sweetest person I've ever met and gives a 5-star performance, but based on today's visit with another waitress, the rating must be lower. Let's begin with the positives. My friends and I came here for my friend's birthday back in January. It was my first time here, and Kate said how beautiful we looked (we were dressed up), asked where we were headed, and told us that she hoped we have the best time... we liked her so much that we joked around and told her to come with us because she was so friendly and hospitable. She took pictures for us, she gave us hugs goodbye, and she even remembered our names. BEST. WAITRESS. EVER. On this day, the food was amazing... I got the lemon chicken with artichoke hearts and it was heavenly. Fast-forward to today, the place was slow, and my same friends from last time and I came around 8pm. We had a different waitress, but our old waitress Kate saw us and remembered all of the details about that night we came 4 months ago. She gave us hugs again and she told us she wasn't gunna be our waitress but we will have a great one. I wish we had her again=( Our waitress today was very nice, but awfully slow. It took so long for us to have our order taken, and the thing that ruined my whole experience was that at the end of our dinner, she asked if I needed change back for my $15 bill (my two friends and I got separate checks). I said yes please, and she literally gave me a $5 bill... normally when people want change back, it's because they want to pay the tip with part of that change. I was honestly pissed because I had no other cash on me, and if I wanted to give her a $5 tip, I wouldn't have asked for change back. So on Valentines Day my bosses were chatting about ordering a heart shaped pizza. Since my hubs had to work an afternoon shift, I wanted to not cook yet feed myself and my adult son. I went on the Porrettas site, ordered and paid for a meal to pick up after work within 3 minutes. The site was so easy to use. I went to pick up after work and our large heart shaped sausage pizza looked perfect, but the chicken parm I ordered for me was OUT OF THIS WORLD! It came with a huge chunk of fresh bread, a generous side salad, and the chicken parm with sauce and pasta was divine! The portion was so generous, I had it for dinner for three nights and was sad it was all gone on night number 4. Pros; Veggie pizza is some of the best I've ever had. Seriously. Portions are always generous and everything we have had is delicious. Prices are decent also. Cons: THE SERVICE WHEN DINING IN. No joke it is always the worst of anywhere we go. It's mind blowing how unprofessional, slow, not helpful and just don't give a crap these employees are. We are at the point where we will only get take out or delivery because it's this bad. The service is not even a 1 star each time we have dealt with a server here. For a restaurant that serves food as wonderful as here it's shocking they put this as the face of the business. Last Friday for example no one ever had full drinks after initial service despite repeated requests for a refill. At one point asked for a pepper grinder and she laughed at my partner telling him to use the one on the table when it was like 7 steps behind her on the shelf she just didn't want to get it. Rosa J. has officially become a new resident in Portage Park. "Foodie on Foot" has instinctively detected the presence of the closest restaurant to our house: Porretta's Trattoria. While Porretta's Trattoria certainly has an more upscale and intimate dine-in option, the steel side door on Waveland serves as the carry-out center. By the way, parking is more than sufficient on Central and on Waveland behind the restaurant. Hubby called in four-five (45) minutes for an order of large, 14-inch stuffed pizza ($25.24 after tax, as of 10/26/2015) with these three (3) ingredients: spinach, green olives, and zucchini. What I could tell was that this stuffed pizza will have a plenty of leftovers for at least two (2) more meals. For a neighborhood standard, their stuffed pizza was excellent! The pizza was nearly perfect except I preferred a slightly softer crust. Porretta's was a bit "stiff" to me. I rendered a full score for their abundance of cheese and all the main ingredients we requested. They obviously didn't skimp on the "stuffed" portion. I will definitely strive to be a regular at Porretta's. Their carry-out menu is surprisingly extensive. There are so many good things about Trattoria Porretta. First, they have a parking lot. Makes life easier. Our server (sorry I can't remember her name) was fantastic. Friendly and knowledgeable with great timing which is always appreciated. They bring warm bread to the table almost immediately. I love bread and many restaurants are doing away with bread service but what if I order something where bread is needed? We started with the grilled calamari which was delicious, perfectly cooked and flavorful. My sister had the chicken limon and I had the special Burrata ravioli. We both loved our mains. After one hour I called to check on status to learn that the restaurant mistakenly discarded my phone & address and therefore had not cooked my order. Saying it would be another 90 mins. Month ago I ordered from here via DoorDash and the order was TWO hours late. When we dine in here the staff was slow and uninspired. I'm done.
