In preparation for installation of driveway pavers, we had to remove a beautiful magnolia tree and its large roots which was abutting our driveway. We also required the stump to be removed and ground. Scott (arborist) gave us a reasonable estimate for the removal and stump grinding, as well as some tree maintenance. My tree service job was unusual in that it required coordination with 10 neighbors with whom I coown most of the 120+ trees on the perimeter of my landlocked 1 acre plot in the El Cerrito hills. Most of the trees are huge old eucalyptus with a few large cypress in one section. The work was directed by a consulting certified arborist, was designed to meet the Fire Marshal's interpretation of the local fire code, and had to meet all the coowners needs. So, there were many hands in this pot to be accommodated and satisfied. As background, let me say that over the 26 years I've lived in this property, I've had to have a lot of tree work done so have lots of prior experience with tree workers. Traverso Tree Service excelled in every aspect of this job. Just specifying the detailed work to be done on each individual tree, e.g., which limb to be cut and exactly how much, to meet the needs of the fire dept, satisfy homeowners, and maintain the structural integrity of the grove was an incredibly tedious, complicated task, requiring many meetings, emails, phone calls, and site visits. Throughout this process Traverso remained positive, helpful, readily available for questions, quickly responsive, and happy to accommodate everyone's concerns. The positive tone they set carried the rest of us through a very difficult process. On the job they were positive, deferential, always accommodating, informative about planned schedule for the work, and happy to do little extras, e.g., if a friend wanted some logs for firewood, they were happy to cut the requested amount to specific dimensions and stack wherever desired. If they were in a tree working and from there could easily reach a limb on another tree not part of their job, they would happily prune it also. And they were thorough: every dead branch and piece of loose bark was removed with no short cuts and no evidence of an "that's good enough" attitude. Furthermore, the crew was always happy: whistling, singing, calling to each other in the trees in positive tones. On breaks they would talk/laugh/be relaxed with each other. Nowhere was the subtly sullen, unhappy tone that workers often have. They worked efficiently, carefully, with good coordination between tree and ground work, made steady progress, and always cleaned up well after each day's work. If they needed to leave machinery on site overnight, they asked permission to do so and where it would be least inconvenient. Overall, they were a pleasure to have around my home and made what is usually a stressful, messy, noisy, unpleasant experience very pleasant. And this job lasted 3 weeks! Also, they were careful not to damage other foliage, fences, retaining walls, or driveway. They used no spurs to climb trees. And their final cleanup was immaculate, beyond the mess that was caused by their work. Finally, the job they did on the trees was amazing. As I said, I've had a lot of tree work done in the past, but I was unprepared for the beauty of the trees that they pulled out of the previously undirected growth. The cypress especially were so graceful, balanced, sculpted, and lovely to behold. Even the giant eucalyptus were stately, graceful, and in aesthetic harmony with their neighboring trees. The grove was beautiful, looking at individual trees and at the whole group. They even made a tangle of olive trees graceful and light. I was surprised and very pleased. Their work was truly artistic, while at the same time meeting the Fire Code, neighbors' structural concerns, and the arborist's dictates for grove stability. In sum, this is a very well run organization whose happy, accommodating perspective of the owners filters down to the lowest level and permeates every aspect of a job. They are truly a pleasure to work with, from start to finish. And their work is aesthetically pleasing, competent, safe, and tailored to satisfy the goals of the homeowner. I continue to enjoy the new beauty of my trees as well as the balance, harmony, and light their work has brought to my property. I cannot recommend them too highly. read more

Best tree company ever! I had them trim a large cedar in my front yard. Unfortunately I was not able to be there when they did the work. Everything was left clean and had a number of branches that were surgically trimmed back (not easy to do given the weight of those limbs). I noticed one branch that still hung low and rested on another branch. I called Traverso and they had someone out to look over the branch. Steve, the arborist, came out initially to size the job and provide a quote and in the process convinced us that some of the work we had anticipated was not necessary and could actually have been harmful to our oaks. Traverso Tree Service was easy to contact via email, online and someone actually answers the phone when you call (no need to leave message and wait for call back). The estimate was done very quickly and I didn't even need to be home when they came out for the estimate or to do the work! Pricing is very reasonable and right in line with the other bids I got. They came out to remove a very large (25 foot or larger) Monterrey Pine Tree and grind the stump. We didn't need to oversee their work. They hauled away everything and I mean everything. They didn't miss a thing! It's the best cleanup job I have ever seen. The tree is gone. The stump is ground down. They invoiced me in the mail later and allow payment by credit card. This was my first experience with a tree service, and I couldn't have been happier! I found Traverso Tree Service in the Good Service Guide and read some of the Yelp reviews. It was great being able to communicate through email to schedule the estimate and tree removal. Danielle always got back to me quickly, and when I talked to another associate on the phone, the communication was consistent. Scheduling the estimate was easy, and Scott was even able to come 3 hours early, which was great! I asked him to look at 4 pine trees, and he recommended that 2 of them be removed. I was told that I could schedule the tree removal for 6 weeks from now, but with the threat of El Nino, the next available date was 3 months from now. Because of special circumstances, I asked to be put on the "move up" list in case there was a cancellation. I was thrilled to be contacted the very next day that a crew would be willing to come out just a few days later! The crew was polite, always asking if they could trim any other trees that were in the way of the job, and careful not to ruin the gazebo in front of the tree or any part of the house. They scheduled for a two-day job and got it done in one day! I later found out that my in-laws have been using Traverso Tree Service for nearly 20 years! We were confident that we wanted Traverso to do the work, so we had already booked a date. They're really busy, but were able to squeeze us in several weeks early, due to cancellations. Not at all happy with these folks. Their bid for our trees was very high. When they came to cut my neighbors trees they essentially invaded our yard and brought a DOG who then drove my dog crazy. This is the second time that we have used Traverso for tree trimming. The first time was after a wind storm a few years ago. The center branch of a maple tree was broken off. They did a great job thinning it and explained that it would take a while but it would look fine after a bit. They knew what they were talking about. I'm glad we didn't have to remove the tree. We've used Traverso tree several times. The first was 10 years ago - to remove some large pines. We brought them back this year after a neighbor's tall pine fell, badly damaging one of our trees and leaving a giant mess behind. Traverso's crew were able to get out quickly to removed the wood from the fallen tree, including the enormous trunk. They then returned to remove our 150 foot tall pine, that had been damaged by the fallen tree. It was a challenging job because of the size of the tree and the location, but they handled it well.
