Meat ravioli is delicious! Its a family recipe but you have to ask if you want it Paul's way with some kinda garlic oil instead of the red sauce. I enjoy eating at the bar watching sports on tv. I wish they were open Saturday afternoons. Minestrone soup with parmesan and spumoni is very good. Crinkle Fries ok. Same quality as the Orland Park location, Traverso's has been a weekly meal of mine for the last 35 years except when I lived out of state. Pizza: The thin crust coated lightly with red sauce may be a bit bland and dry but I like it. Friday night 5:30 waited about 20 minutes for a table not so bad in a packed restraunt,waiting 40 plus minutes for ummm ehhh ok food not cool and not to mention pretty pricey for the portions. Yelpers are really obsessed with authenticity, be it 'real' mexican food or 'legit' pita. It is annoying and most of the time stupid. That being said, I found traverso's to be authentic in its credentials as an italian restaurant. The decor was typical of many of the old timey places you find in big cities, and the clientele seemed familiar to the staff, and the servers themselves were friendly and helpful. The food was very good. We had the pizza, which was thin crust done very well. I also ordered a veal dish, because I am an abhorrent glutton who particularly loves the taste of young cow. The veal was tender and well prepared. The fresh bread, as many other reviews have stated, was totally top. I like. I love it. I want some more of it. Years and years ago, I lived very close to Traverso's. we frequented the place both dine in and carry out. I remember really enjoying their food, so when I found myself in the area recently, I took my family to get some pizza. Honestly, I was greatly disappointed in almost every aspect of the experience. The hostess was pleasant, but overwhelmed by a large party gathering in the lobby. The restaurant can't be blamed for their behavior, but it was a very rude group of adults camped out in a way that we couldn't get to the hostess stand at first. When we got there, the hostess asked if we had reservations. We did not, as it wasn't something required years ago when I frequented the place - and in the end, I guess it wasn't necessary- but something about her response made us feel less welcome suddenly. We did get seated rather quickly, which made me wonder why reservations were even mentioned, because aside from the large party, the lobby was empty and there were several empty tables. Our server wasn't rude, but she was probably the least personable person I've ever encountered in the service industry. Refills on drinks were very very slow, and she'd check in with us only after the manager had. We felt like an afterthought the entire time we were there. We have little kids, and they brought giant adult drinks, which were, of course, spilled. After the spill (cleaned up by a very nice busboy), she brought one of the boys a kids cup. I can't fathom why she didn't do that in the first place. The restaurant itself was sort of uncomfortable. We sat in a booth where my kids felt like they were a mile from the table, and I was squished into my seat (and I'm not that big). The lighting is weird and the acoustics in our booth made it so we could hear the tables around us, but not the people we were sitting with - very odd. The table was full of clutter that made it uncomfortable. Bread plates and huge rolls of silverware, along with olive oil and cheese. That was another disappointment. All that clutter for bread, which would be great if you got a basket of bread like you do at every other Italian restaurant in America, but here if you order pizza you don't get bread. I find that kind of ridiculous. I ordered three kids meals, a large pizza, two appetizers, and five drinks - yet that $90 doesn't entitle me to a little bit of bread to keep my kids happy while they wait. Appetizers took an unusually long time. They were good, but nothing amazing. The pizza was bad. Just tasteless. I remembered them having a nice thin crust, but this was gummy, soggy, and kind of gross. There was far too much cheese, so that it always slid off the pieces in one big piece. The sausage had zero flavor and the sauce was mediocre. Not what I'd expect for the price, and not what I remember from years ago. I dined at Traverso's with approximately 12 family members a couple of Sundays back. Attentive service but I don't think anyone was very impressed with their food unfortunately. I was having trouble deciding on a pasta dish and chose the chicken bowtie based on a recommendation from our waitress. Bowtie pasta, chicken breast, broccoli and tomatoes in an olive oil/garlic sauce. Pretty tasteless. Even red pepper flakes couldn't save the dish. I had a few pieces of someone's thin crust pizza. We were heading out to Naperville for a book signing and I had a severe hankering for a thin crust pizza. So I headed onto Yelp for a quick peak at what might be a good choice. After reading several good reviews for Traverso's we decided to check it out. When we first got there it was a little weird because the bar was stuffed with people, but there was only one table of people actually eating in the dining room. It took a few minutes for them to notice us waiting by the door - but once they did we were asked if we wanted bar or dining room. We chose the dining room - because the bar area was pretty noisy for a small place. We ordered a large sausage and mushroom. I asked if they could please make the crust crispy. Our waitress said, "Oh course!". I was pleased with her response. If you've read any of my reviews before you know I'm searching for the perfect thin crust CRISPY pizza near my home and still haven't found it Anyway, when it arrived it was on a pizza pie tin and the pizza was on an oven rack. This is brilliant because it helps to keep the crust crispy longer. The pizza was piping hot, super crispy and not burnt. The cheese, sausage and mushrooms were all fresh and great quality. I wasn't 100% in love with the sauce but it was good. We then finished with the caramel apple crunch. It was delicious, warm, gooey and just perfect. Our waitress Wendi, was very good. She was attentive, checked on us often enough but was not annoying. She was helpful with the menu, told us about the wonderful desserts and told us to come back and try the homemade ravioli (which we will). She also gave us directions back to the expressway - that were perfect! I also want to give a shout-out to Candice G. because of her review we chose Traverso's, and we're glad we did. I don't know when we'll next be in Naperville, but when we are we'll be back to Traverso's. Verdict: Great, crispy thin pizza, give it a try. How have I not ever reviewed Traverso's? I love this place! Traverso's is as cozy as a golden retriever puppy, friendly as a golden retriever puppy, and as delicious as a...golden retriever puppy? No, that's not right. But it's so good! If you like thin crust pizza, Traverso's is cracker thin. I love the white pizza but you can't go wrong with the other toppings. There's a dining room and a bar area. Both are nice, but I prefer the bar. It's a little dimmer and more cozy-like. Plus you can peep at the regulars at the bar and wish you were one of them. Who doesn't want a drinking crew at Traverso's? Woop woop. The staff and manager/owners (not sure their rank) are always so nice and go above and beyond to make sure your experience is great. Our first time here. Here's the bottom line: good food and service. The owner stops by your table on a busy Friday night. I had the Chicken Marsala and my better half had the Lasagna. There are a couple of ways you can serve the Marsala. One is to make a thick sauce with Marsala wine and pour it over the Chicken. The other has your Chicken swimming in Marsala wine. They both work. I had some linguini to take home. The Lasagna is special. One of the top five Lasagnas I've ever tasted. The portion could easily feed two people. The Tiramisu was superb. You want your fresh lady fingers soaked, but not drenched in rum. Discernable, but not overly so...just the way I LIKE IT. Light enough you can drop your fork through it. This is my first time at Traverso's and boy o boy what a major disappointment! My wife and I showed up on a Wednesday night 1/2/19 at 8:00 p.m. and waited 10 minutes to NOT have anyone greet us at the front door. I had to hunt down the bartender to find someone to seat us (Red flag #1). We were finally seated in a booth with the dining Room being 10% full at this time of the night. Finally our waitress came over and didn't even introduce herself (Red flag #2) and simply greeted us with "What can I get you to drink?" No specials were articulated, no water brought to the table....even though the bus boy walked past our table at least 5x. We ordered a $40 bottle of wine...their most expensive in the house....and the wine bottle came to the table already opened (Red flag #3). The service was absolutely atrocious!! The waitress had ZERO personality! Their menu is lacking, at best. Their pasta choices are either penne, spaghetti or shells in a marinara sauce. No risotto, no country rigatoni, no wild caught fish....but they did have 2 types of farm raised Taliapa.....yum. Cant get enough of fish that are considered bottom feeders. I can go on and on.....with dishes piling up and and a $3.50 charge for bread. If your looking to be aggravated with a little dash of indigestion...definitely check this place out. It had been a long time since I had been at Traverso's Restaurant. It may have even been when there was still a smoking section and Blagojevich was in office! The inside ambiance, particularly lighting, is still great and the parking was ample. The bathrooms were in pretty decent shape as well. I sat in a booth on the bar side. Since I had last graced this restaurant with my presence, they added a pretty nice gluten free menu. The chef really knows what he's doing. There are actually more than just two lousy entrées. There's fish, pizza, pasta, salads and other things that I like and now will be able to eat like a normal person. There's a wide variety of sauces from which to choose for pasta. The service was a tad sluggish, but nothing to fret over. The server, Kelly, certainly made up for it. Incidentally, there was a strong wi-fi signal on the north side of the building where I sat. However, it was very difficult, at first, to get my Samsung phone to connect. I love free wi-fi in restaurants. It's sort of like having paper towels in the bathrooms, rather basic. After some finagling on the part of the owner or manager, I finally got my phone to display web pages consistently. I hope that the owners and management will stay on top of this. I ordered the chicken piccata with gluten free pasta and a mixed green salad. The portion size on the chicken was huge. Enough for dinner tonight and lunch tomorrow. I was especially fond of the mixed greens salad. I enjoyed mine with balsamic vinegar and olive oil. The salad comes with delicious medium size tomatoes and fresh walnuts. Out of this world. Years ago when everything around the southern side of Naperville was still corn fields, and Breckenridge was still being built, Traverso's was the first restaurant in the area, and it is still here - that says something. My mother and I ate here 4 nights a week when my dad was out of town - pasta, minestrone soup, salad, and bread - these were the staples. At that time it was a low key, not crowded place to go, we tried a few weekends ago to go for dinner but it just looked far too busy to wait (especially since my house is two blocks away). I have to admit that I'm rather surprised that this place got such good ratings! I literally live across the street and have come here many times - and leave disappointed each time. First we start with the deco and such all around - which feels like an out of date restaurant from the 80's. The service was pretty good - i've never had a bad experience. I have had numerous things from this pace. First I tried their ravioli - which I couldn't even finish because it was so bad. I've also had the chicken parm - which is also lackluster. I've gotten pizza from the place a few times tool...and it's ok - not great...and somewhat overpriced - In fact over the last 7 years of living across the street, i've only gotten pizza from the place like 3 times. On a positive note my father says they have a decent hamburger If i'm looking for pizza, I would rather drive a bit further and get Lou Malnati's or Giordano's. Traverso's is one of my favorite sit down restaurants in the Western Suburbs and I've been going there since the early 1990's. This place is off the beaten path a little, as it's not on Ogden Ave, 75th street, 95th street, or the Route 59 corridor in Naperville. They feature Italian cuisine and our family eats there probably 4 times a year, and I wish it were more. It's a very modern, darkly lit restaurant with separate bar area and is kid friendly (high chairs are available). You can expect to see a lot of families here on any given evening, usually with adult males wearing golf or polo shirts, and the parking lot will be full of luxury cars built within the last 2 years. Service is always consistent, and you will get good attention from your server. Their fettuccini alfredo is an absolute masterpiece, and it simply does not get any better than this. I always order it with grilled chicken and find the portion size to be well worth the value of $15 for the dish. They hand make their ingredients in house, including the pasta, and the finished product is excellent and does not contain significant amounts of garlic (my preference). Over time, I have had their burgers and Italian beef and both were excellent. My wife and mother have had other various pasta and Italian dishes and have been very happy. We usually order a pizza for the table, which also is excellent, cut in squares. Bread and butter is complimentary, unlimited, and always arrives hot and fresh. For dessert, they have a brownie, cookie & ice cream sundae called "goosey cake" which is to die for, and I am sure it's 100 calories per bite. Every time we eat there, the manager can be seen making his way throughout the restaurant talking to regulars and asking if everyone's meal was prepared properly. You'll know him as he has a very deep voice. They did pull a fast on us over the last year or two - they changed their soda provider are serving generic cola now (not Pepsi or Coke) and I can tell the difference. I probably should not be drinking soda anyway, so it's not affecting my 5 star review! Do yourself a favor and try this place if you have not already done so. But don't tell too many people - I don't want this hidden gem to become overly popular so that I always have to wait to get a table :-) read more

I was just here last night, and I already can't way to go back. In fact, I left so full I could barely walk, and yet after I got home, wanted to open back up the leftovers and eat more! I am only disappointed I never visited earlier. Immediately as we walked in, I was pleased. The hostess was very friendly, offering us a spot either in the dining room or the bar. We chose the bar, and it was a good choice. Everyone was watching the USA World Cup Game, and it was a great atmosphere. We were all starved, so we decided to start with an appetizer before our pizza. We settled on the calamari, and I must say, it was hands-down the best I've ever had. Light fried crust and the calamari was so well cooked. Not rubbery; almost melt in your mouth good. For dinner, our group of four ordered 2 x 14" pizzas. The boys shared (and finished!) a half pepperoni and half sausage. The fresh sausage was delicious and the cheese was greasy and fantastic. Us girls split a 14" with black olives, mushrooms and green peppers. The peppers were crunchy and the toppings were plentiful. To top it all off, the ranch for dipping was amazing! We ate about half of the pizza and split the rest to bring home. The prices are a bit on the high side, but the food really was great. Let me start by saying I've been eating at Traversos for well over 20 years. My family has been eating there since back in Pullman / Roseland area decades ago. I've always been a huge fan of their pizza and food. I have to say over the past few years prices have gone up and I've been less satisfied with the quality and taste of the food. Here's my complaints. You guys seem to change your garlic bread on a weekly basis, everytime I order it its different. I like the old style heavy garlic, now days one week its full of herbs, the next weeks its more of a wet garlicky bread the next week its a dry bread covered in herbs. The fries seem to change on a regular basis as well. One my my biggest complaints is your meatball sandwhich and smaller serving sizes overall. You guys make the best meatballs you really do. Your meatball sandwhich used to be 3 or 4 heaping meatballs. Recently at there and there's these little ping pong ball size meatballs, it truly was pathetic and everyone at the table commented on it. Not only is it smaller serving for same price but smaller meatballs dry out unlike your big balls. I'm very disapointed with the direction traversos has gone in the past several years. read more

Great family owned Italian restaurant in Naperville! Very good Italian food. I don't know if I should share this review because it's our little hidden gem! It's kinda tucked away in the center of suburbia, unless you travel down Plainfield/Naperville Rd. you would never know it's there! Prices are good, the food is generous, the staff is always helpful and friendly. My favorite is the Shells and Sausage. Great place to take the family. They have a separate private room for small parties. As we had my in-laws 50th anniversary dinner there. We went here for a date last weekend and absolutely loved it. For an appetizer, we ordered the toasted avocado, which was great. Imagine an avocado lightly heated and decorated with bruschetta toppings. It was out of this world, so I hope they continue to offer it since it was a only a special for that night. For dinner, we split the eggplant rigatoni dish (also a special). The waitress was amazing at accommodating our request to split the meal, even so far as splitting the salad that comes with it. This place is great for a date night or for a night out with the family, but it's not too fancy. I love supporting independently owned businesses and in the suburbs they are hard to come by. Service was impeccable! Our waitress has been working at Traverso's for 15 years. Amazing. She loves her job, loves the restaurant, the menu, people and it shows!! Her service alone will keep me coming back. We had toasted ravioli, minestrone, field greens salad(my daughter said it was the best salad!), wedge salad(some of the best blue cheese dressing ever, its homemade and they sell it by the pint!), chicken parm, spaghetti with marinara. Traverso's is often rated as the best thin crust pizza in Naperville...and it is! Whenever, we we are in the mood for thin crust or we have out of state guests visiting, we end up going to Traverso's. It can get crowded on the weekends, but it is worth the wait. We will sometimes eat in the large bar area which is much less crowded than the restaurant area. Beware, if you have young kids, the bar seems to have some crusty, "salty" regulars. Thankfully, the no smoking ban makes the bar more appealing than in the past. This is a standard family restaurant, no real frills as far as decor. A lot of dark wood, booths, low lighting and waitresses that call you hon. I would be hesitant to go here on a date night, but if you have kids they are very accommodating. One of my favorite things is that they use paper tablecloths and give out crayons. Hangman, Tic tac toe, doodling are all great ways to pass the time while waiting for your pizza! As far as their other dishes, especially their pastas, give it a wide PASS. For some reason, the pasta noodles are always undersalted, overcooked and mushy. We have learned this the hard way after ordering ravioli and spaghett a few times. Note to the restaurant, add salt to the boiling water, cook al dente, and drain your pasta really well before serving it on a plate. Nothing is more unappealing than ravioli in a tomatoey, watery bath. Pricewise, their pizza can be a bit more expensive than some places. However, we think the quality is worth the price. 3.5 stars If you're planning to come here on a Friday/Saturday night, expect a crowd as a sizable line was forming at around 6 and the restaurant and adjacent strip mall parking lot were completely packed! Thankfully, I was there for carryout. Despite the crowd, everyone there was polite. Got a medium thin crust with bacon for $14.00. First thing I tasted was a flavor of oregano and salt from the bacon, which they put a lot of on the pizza. However, the saltiness was starting to become too much as it overpowered any other flavor I would of tasted. Traverso's seemed to be a slightly-higher class restaurant, judging from their prices. Pizza was good, but the best in town, which is an overused statement, might be pushing it a little. read more

This is not a food review, but a service review. Food has always been good and consistent and the atmosphere is very cozy and festive. HOWEVER, THE SERVICE WAS CRAPPY LAST NIGHT (December 13, 2015). We had a somewhat large group there for a baptism dinner. The servers were two middle-aged women. TOTAL GRUMPS. My family got there a few minutes early. My first interaction with one them when I placed my coat and purse on my chair was, "WHAT ARE YOU HERE FOR?" in a rude tone. Really? During dinner service, they were short and rough moving and clearing plates, and were apparently in a HUGE HURRY TO GET US OUT OF THERE. Felt very rushed. They kept trying to take plates away that were full of food, etc. We were very courteous despite this. I was honestly afraid to ask for anything and felt anxious and defensive all night. I'm sure my sister, who hosted the party, payed a pretty penny to feed us and I am horrified of the bad service we all received. I was most upset that my grandma had to endure the treatment as she is handicapped and elderly. I try to be fair. It was a big party and everyone has a "bad night" once in a while. However, the same servers were calling people at other tables "darling" and spending lots of time helping them pick their dinner choices. I took it personally and could not empathize with the servers at that point. I ate here last night and will return because the food was fantastic, but our waitress on the other hand wasn't really that great. I had read a lot of other reviews on here and knew the service was going to be hit or miss. We got a miss. Hopefully next time we will have a little better service. My friend and I were not in a hurry, but the entire dinner took 2+ hours. Our waitress just seem preoccupied with tables other than ours. We initially asked for another minute to look over the menu since neither of us had been there before and after 45 minutes we had to ask the owner to send our waitress back over so that we could order. Now onto the food... I ordered the chicken parm and asked for the tomato cream sauce on the penne pasta. The chicken parm was good, not the best I have ever had, but good. The tomato soup that came as a starter was one of the best I've had. The tomato cream sauce on the penne was awesome. We ordered the brownie sundae for dessert and I was totally blown away with how good it was. There was this cream cheese topping that was to die for. It was warm and served with ice cream and whipped cream. Delicious! I had to ask twice for a glass of water and my friend had asked for a refill on her drink half way through the meal and never got it. There were a lot of larger parties in there and it seemed like there were only 2 waitresses working which didn't seem like enough. Will be back based on the food alone. The staff here is very friendly and quickly make you feel at home. Once your comfortable you can then begin to order some of the great food out of their kitchen. Many well known pizzerias in Chicago churn out massive amounts of pizza orders everyday and have chosen quantity over quality. But that is not the case in this establishment. I got home with Devil scrimp. Totally uneatable fire hot uneatable junk. Who in their right mind would coat scrimp with three or four different hot peppers and think it is good. Wanted to get a meal before hitting the movie theaters for Thor, and found most restaurants on a Sat night to be just too long of a wait. Made our way here, and got seated in 5 minutes. Excellent! Service was super friendly, especially after we told her we just moved into the area, and she was happy to give us some suggestions and insider tips on who to know and talk to for getting into other restaurants as well! Mozzarella sticks appetizers: Made for four... for the pricing, we figured we get a few, but I think they served us 11 or 13 of these things... good God, I was full before the main food even came! Traverso's Pizza - Thin crust: When we want thin crust, we want cracker thin crispy crust... this isn't it. It's a mix of thin/chewy, and is an excellent crust by all means, but not the perfectly thin crackling crust that snaps with each bite that we enjoy. And the biggest no-no for any pizza for me: canned mushrooms. Granted, it seemed like higher quality canned mushrooms, but the mushrooms definitely seemed overly moist with each bite, something that I find only happens when they've been soaking in liquid for too long. No room for dessert, but the waitress let us know everything is homemade, so would be curious to go back for some tiramisu. A great family joint, excellent laid back Italian-American style eating. Verdict: Would be back if in the area, and could see it being the kind of place you bring your kids to after a softball/baseball game or something. read more

This place has generously donated catered meals to my daughter's school for their annual Make-A-Wish fundraiser night. Thank you! They always supplied trays of rigatoni and sauce, salad and bread. Basic stuff, but kids and adults all enjoyed the meal and it went a long way. Five stars for their utter coolness. read more

I love how they've become a neighborhood favorite over the years. Tons of regulars are always in here. I've dined in plenty of times, but I prefer takeout. We get their Potato Skins or Buffalo Wings on occasion, both are solid. Their homemade soups are really good and their salads are pretty damn good too. The Antipasto is excellent, especially with their homemade Italian dressing. I just wish they cubed the meat and cheese instead of slicing it. It would work better for the salads overall Constancy. Their pastas are decent, but you could make better if you put in a little effort at home. Their pizzas good, but the crust is too thin. It cant handle a lot of ingredients very well. I'd recommend only getting 1-3 (maximum) toppings. If the pizza cools down a little bit, it tastes light years better than when it's hot. That's a personal opinion though... To finish, I'll go back to my childhood. You MUST order the Goosey Cake. I don't know what it is about that damn dessert, but it's got me hooked like a meat head and affliction t-shirts. Traversos is a neighborhood spot that has been around, and will be around, for decades. Oddly, I just saw the original for my first time. Had high hopes but didn't live up to rating and the owner response was unbelievable. The noodle side dish was over cooked and the Alfredo sauce had separated and was over two inches of butter in the bottom of the bowl upset our stomachs and we were sick overnight. Server was nice. Atmosphere was fine. Couple apps were ok. We thought maybe the chef had an off night because I saw good reviews? Really the thing to mention is be aware that if you leave a negative review the owner will write to you, and if you politely point out the problems he will attack your tastes, and then if you don't change your review as he demands he will use intimidation against other people in your party - paul shared my review with different group reservations the night we were there until someone responded they knew me and then he had them ask me to change my review. So I did, the above is a lot more concise to the problems but much kinder but I added this warning for others to change your settings so when you have problems the owner can't cut you and your party down and try to drive a wedge between your friendships. To yelp: a review should be just to warn others that you are overpaying for middle of the road food not to allow the reviewer to be insulted by the venue. Added later after owner response: (The owner response below is a lie because of the exaggerations). I love that he feels it is okay to troll people obsess about who their group was, and search out others in their party to shame them). And he was the one that asked me to change the review and I did and was kind compared to my first post as I didn't mention things like the hair in someones food and removed the comments about returning drinks being watery and yes I was kind and removed the descriptive details about overcooked or reheated pasta as it was obvious but hard to prove - then his epic response is I must be lying because I changed my post ... but it was based on him asking me too. So I can add back some of the comments here since I am being called out of all things for being gentle and kinder I can counter back that I agree with him I did say some of those items that in the first review. Sorry to tone it down and be kinder over the holidays. The owner needs help, I would guess he has obsessed and wasted 10-15 hours to smear my name with multiple private response messages, review messages, and stocking my friends, and in the end I just pray he gets the help he needs. read more
