This review is really for an Indian clothes. I would not bring any Indian outfits to this tailor. I brought a Lengha top that was a bit too snug. She did a great job with the hem of the top. Quality of the stitches were great. However, the shape of the entire blouse was changed. It looked much more Western than I was hoping for. Also, I think the price of the top was around $40. Came here to tailor my wedding dress. I was recommended by my dress shop who uses this tailor as their outhouse tailor. To all my fellow brides, please do your research first before settling on a tailor. Irene and her assistant are friendly when things are going well. But it felt like they did not really take the time to make your dress perfect. They don't want to hear any issues and it does feel awkward to bring up any issues because the appointments are very rushed. For bridal fittings, please find a place who will take their time with you. I actually had to get my dress taken in an extra inch because it was still too loose. I had 3 fittings total and had to basically ask for the 3rd one since they tried to only give me 2. The first fitting was only 15 minutes long, which was crazy because I've heard first bridal fittings can sometimes take up to an hour. I gave 2 stars because the tailoring job was okay. However if you decide to still use Irene for her services, do not feel rushed or pressured for your appointments. Take your time to examine your dress. read more

I recommended Irene to my sister for her bridesmaid dress alterations based on the positive reviews on yelp. Unfortunately, the experience was pretty terrible. For a simple hem and a closure at the chest, the price was more than the cost of the dress ($165). This would not have been an issue if the alterations were perfect. Irene did a hook and eye closure at the chest, which should have been pretty simple. When my sister picked up the dress, the closure was sloppy, with HUGE hooks that showed and threads hanging. When she tried to ask Irene if it could be fixed or refunded, Irene argued that this is how it was supposed to look and refused a refund. Irene, as a professional, should have known the appropriate fixture to use for this type of dress. She ended up taking it to a trusty tailor who was appalled by the job and fixed it for her with the appropriate type of snap closure that worked much better with the dress. Correct me if I am wrong, but a small dress hem on the bottom, Irene charged me $185. My mouth gaped open, I was completely taken aback. A small hem usually is around $60-$65. $185!? I tried to negotiate down and she ended up charging me $125, which still to me was wild. I am the least cheap person you'll find but this felt like robbery. read more

So pleased with my experience with Irene. I needed a gown altered for an upcoming wedding. I had been to other places in the area but was never quite happy with the service. Today I went to see the kind and patient seamstress, Irene, for alterations. I found her on Yelp and she had good reviews. The office was lovely on the second floor of a pretty two story building on 7th Street in Garden City. There is a rear entrance with tons of parking in the back and located right next to a bank with an ATM. No appointment was required so I walked in. Irene was friendly, worked quickly and gave great suggestions for a great fit. The price was very fair. I was very pleased. This will be where I go for all of my alterations going forward and I highly recommend her. read more

I was not blown away by this experience. I was recommended to Irene by a family friend for my wedding dress alterations. Irene and her assistant are very sweet women, but they are SLOW. I had to come in FIVE separate times. The first two appointments nothing was even done to the dress, so I don't understand why we started so early. It was frustrating to have to come in each time only to see nothing had been changed. On my wedding day there were multiple pins discovered still in my dress, it was partially bustled in places, etc. I am very upset about this. I was told between my fourth and fifth appointments that the dress would be hemmed an additional inch, but I am doubtful that this ever occurred because I was tripping over tulle the entire day. I also felt the bustle was lazily done, was not very attractive, and did not prevent me from dragging my dress all over the floor like I thought bustles were supposed to do. There was one occasion where Irene called me an HOUR before an appointment trying to get me to change it, even after I said that would not be a possibility - she kept arguing with me! I felt this was unprofessional. I think she overbooked that time slot because when I was in my appointment at least three other women were waiting, plus an irate woman came in demanding to take her dress home with her after having too many appointments just like me, so mine appears to not have been a unique experience. I'd say if you have a lot of time and patience (and money - NOT cheap), go for it. She was a very friendly and personable woman during all five (ugh) of my appointments. However, I wouldn't recommend this tailor to anyone I know. read more

Irene worked magic on my wedding dress! A month before my wedding, my dress needed to be let out. I went to another seamstress who said my only option was to change the entire back of my dress and therefore, change my whole dress... that wasn't an option. Irene did my prom dress 10 years ago. That dress had complicated beading and she did an amazing job with that. My problem was, I couldn't remember where she was located. After some detective work, I found where Irene was located and immediately made an appointment. Irene saved the day by fixing my dress. I would use her again in a heartbeat! read more

I dropped a bridesmaids dress off and told her that I needed it back in over 2 weeks, largely enough time to have it hemmed. Showed up to pick it up on the agreed upon date and was told to come back in 15 minutes as the dress clearly hadn't been touched. For 15 minutes if rushed work I had to pay her 95.00 cash, I also noticed there were pieces of fabric hanging off the bottom so had to walk back in to have them cut off... read more

Irene did the alterations on my wedding gown, it was great, although i wanted the top more fitted and she could not get it too tight but I had lost a lot of weight so, used chicken cutlets to fill it out.
