Kelly was very accommodating when we were ordering drinks offering modifications if needed. In telling them we were celebrating an anniversary they gave us complimentary dessert & a complimentary champagne toast. In all my years of working in the service industry, I have never seen such dedicated service. It truly made our evening stand out. Last night was our first time at Tre Scalini, as New Haven is a bit far from us. The food and service were both exceptional and we (my husband and I, along with my cousin and her husband) would all recommend it! On a cold, dark, rainy night, the vibe inside Tre Scalini at 100 Wooster Street in New Haven was lighthearted, fun, festive and filled with a great crowd of people full of holiday cheer. The elegant interior was decked out for Christmas with poinsettias on all the light fixtures. Service was impeccable, professional, and attentive. The real gem was the exquisitely prepared food. Our appetizers included the  MELANZANE ROLLATINI which is an egg battered eggplant, with ricotta cheese stuffing, pomodoro sauce, and grated Parmesan cheese. We also had the TORTA DI GRANCHIO which is crab cakes, limoncello cream sauce, with wilted baby greens. The main course was PENNE AL FINLANDIA CON SCHIZZI DI POMODORO which is penne pasta tossed in a delicate marinara. Finally for dessert, we ordered the irresistible chocolate lava cake. This chocolate torte had a gooey chocolate center, oven warmed, with French vanilla ice cream The restaurant was clean and well organized. Tried Tre Scalini for Restaurant Week. The ambience is old school Italian. Was very impressed by the service of an experienced waiter who made the dining experience all that much more enjoyable. I was blown away by the size of each item I ordered: eggplant stack off the appetizer menu (melt-in-your-mouth delicious), osso bucco for the main course (an incredible amount of meat accompanied by delicious gogonzola gnocchi!), and berry crisp for dessert (ample portion, though taste was just okay). I took back enough leftovers for another large meal. You won't regret trying this restaurant for its generous portions and welcoming atmosphere. read more

I read some of the other reviews, and I'm left thinking, is it just me? Why do a lot of people seem to love this place? I sort of want to chalk my experience up to an "off night", but how can you overlook the dated interior. The 80's banquet room carpet and curtains, the dirty walls, the ugly framed art that looks like it was $1 at a tag sale with a layer of dirt on the glass and chipped frame, and the chipped dinnerware? I had never been to Tre Scalini, so we made the trek down for restaurant week on a cold and rainy Friday evening. Parking is hard to come by. They say they have valet, but there was no attendant when we drove by. Luckily we found some on street parking. We were seated immediately, even though we were 15 minutes early for our reservation. The host was muttering something about his bony ass and hips as he seated us. The bar was very dated and loud. We were seated next to a party with a small child eating French fries. This was definitely not the fine dining experience I had envisioned. Ok, deep breath, pick up the wine list...which differs from the wine list on their website. Which I tell our server as the reason I need a few minutes to peruse it. She doesn't believe me and challenges me on what wine I'm looking for as she grabs it out of my hands and looks for herself. I'm right, of course, why would I lie about that? Sigh...I choose another eventually, but she's annoyed with me and I'm definitely annoyed with her. Water and bread came quickly. Appetizers came out faster than I'd probably want. I ordered eggplant tower with tomatoes and "burrata" with balsamic drizzle. Eggplant was good, crispy, hot, but the tomatoes weren't ripe, so it was a thick crunchy layer, and the "burrata" was actually just mozzarella balls like you'd get at the grocery store, cut in half. Tough and chewy, not creamy like burrata would be. My husband had the wedge salad which was fine, but a bit sparse on the bacon. The blue cheese was good and the balsamic drizzle a nice complement. It really took a wrong turn at the entrees. My husband got the stuffed chicken Marsala, which off the bat, looked entirely like a plate of nursing home food. A couple small rolled up pieces of chicken, with an ice cream scoop's amount of mashed potatoes and some boiled mixed squash that isn't in season. Very few mushrooms - considering this is Marsala - and he said the chicken was very dry. It was fine, he ate it, but definitely not a high class dish. I ordered the clam and prawn fra diavlo...I've ordered versions of this dish near and far over the years. I definitely did not expect to receive head on, shell on shrimp in this dish. We've been married for 12 years, so I got down and dirty with it and just manhandled my shrimp to remove the head and shell. No way you can do it daintily covered in sauce and on a bed of spaghetti. Two of my three clams were undercooked and did not seem safe to eat and I had numerous shell fragments in my dish that were a tooth and choking hazard. The flavor of the sauce was good and the spaghetti itself was good. I added Parmesan from the chipped dish that was brought to the table, and it really just solidified the whole experience. Our server never checked on us until we were done. And when she did come back and I showed her the small clam shell fragments, she didn't care in the slightest. "I'll tell someone" she said with a flat and uncaring tone that told me she had no intention of doing so. If the next person chokes, hopefully this review can help them out legally. Dessert was uninspiring. Tiramisu was fine. White chocolate mousse napoleon described as "topped with fresh spring berries" evoked a vision of a lovely dessert full of berries. Instead, it was a dry pastry creation with some cream and 2 strawberry slices and one blueberry. Considering I had the same 2 strawberry slices on my tiramisu plate (which was not described as being topped with berries), I think they could have omitted that from the napoleon description. It's simply got an 80's style berry garnish rather than being topped with a bounty of spring berries. Start to finish, service and food quality were as bland as the decor. I am glad it was restaurant week pricing. We spent more on wine than the food, and I will definitely never return to this place. read more

My family went to tre scalini tonight to celebrate a birthday. We started with a sesame bread basket and whipped butter. Our waters refilled and our bread basket replaced the second it was empty with fresh bread. Then I got the Scaroli e Fagioli to start and dipping the bread in it was like a warm hug from your old, Italian grandma. My brother got the Tortellini en Brodo and the broth was so fantastic we passed the bowl around the table. The pasta was fresh and delicious. read more

We had a reservation for a Tuesday evening dinner, but the dining room was super empty so it wasn't really necessary. (The bar, on the other hand, was loud, dim, and very crowded. I was surprised by the complete 180 between the bar vibes and dining room vibes.) All the food was incredibly rich, but overall enjoyable. My lobster pappardelle was so creamy that I could really only eat about half before my stomach started to hurt; but what an enjoyable half it was! I personally am not a huge fan of basil so I didn't love the basil risotto that came with the scallops, but the scallops were seared so perfectly that I would absolutely order it again. I also ordered a mojito and it tasted like straight rum. I'm sure many people would consider a heavy pour to be a good thing, but the drink was so strong I couldn't even enjoy it. The waitress was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable when we asked for recommendations. She even gave me tips for reheating our leftovers so as to not break the sauce. I'd give 5/5 for the service, 4/5 for the dining room ambiance (3/5 for the bar ambiance), and 4.5/5 for the food. read more

As long as I have been living in New Haven (or New Haven adjacent), this was my first time going into Tre Scalini. I have had them via UberEats, and they were good, but dining in fully elevated my impression of them. Their attentiveness and the presentation of the food let me know that they care about the food they are serving and they aim for the highest excellence. I loved the tiramisu: it was decadent: creamy and rich and everything I'd been hoping it would be. It was better dining in than when I ordered it UberEats. The Sauvignon Blanc was the perfect compliment to the Papardelle de Telefono. And the lobster in the papardelle tasted so fresh Tre Scalini was a perfect pre-birthday choice. It is unfortunate that I am giving one of my use to be favorite spots a low rating. The food is exceptional! Drinks were made perfectly. Atmosphere is cozy. The service was beyond horrible. The waiter dave seemed to be drunk. He was slurring his words, spilt multiple drinks on us/ himself/ and the table. It was inappropriate to say the least. I have never had this experience there, as most of the staff is very polite and accommodating. Unfortunately may not be going back to eat in person due to this encounter. Tre Scalini did a fantastic job of giving us a romantic date night, with exceptional service and a special menu. The steak was cooked perfectly, pasta and sauces were amazing, and our apps of risotto balls and clams casino were delicious. Our dessert was a decadent chocolate cake with layers of mousse. Arrived without a reservation. The bar was very busy. The host sat us immediately. Water arrived quickly as did our server. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. Bread service was average. Drinks were very good. One of us chose the chicken Parmesan. It was tender and flavorful. I chose the filet with lobster and requested a ribeye as a sub for the filet. They were out so I was given a ny strip. The temp was spot on and the steak was delicious. Presentation is lacking as the potatoes were ice cream scooped onto the plate and reminded me of a lunch lady's plating in school. read more

Best Italian restaurant on Wooster St and probably the New Haven area. The food - apps, pasta, meat and fish - is consistently delicious, specials differ frequently on the menu (and they're never disappointing), service is great, and you couldn't ask for a better vibe whether you sit inside or out. Overall disappointed. I went on friday for restaurant week. The restaurant wasn't busy when we arrived but they sat us next to another party (in an otherwise empty room) and sat another party next to us a few minutes later. I'm not sure why they didn't spread out their guests. Very dated decor inside. We didn't order off of the restaurant week menu. The appetizer we ordered. The Arancini in vodka sauce was good, but it was actually a little cold in the middle. Then the entrees came, and they were good, but not impressive in any way. Towards the end of our meal, my friend noticed there was something that looked like sauce.. but wouldn't scrape off of her veal. And that's when we decided we were done for the evening. read more

Tonight was a celebration for us !! My daughter was invited to attend Yale for a second masters degree next year and we are thrilled. We decided to live it up and have a special dinner at this restaurant this evening. We ordered crabcakes to share and chicken carbonara and eggplant Parmesan for our dinners.. I could not rave enough about how delicious this food is. We didn't even touch our salads we put them in the refrigerator for tomorrow for lunch but five stars, great dinner, loved it. read more

Tre Scalini has a nice old-school Italian restaurant feel with white tablecloths, ambient mood lighting, and customers that seem to have been coming here for years. It's a solid date night spot. While the entrees were not that memorable to me, I have to praise this restaurant for serving up the best tiramisu I've found in New Haven to date. Started with Frutti Mare appetizer, it was a cold fish salad. It had shrimp, clams, calamari, scallops and scungilli. It also had a few hot peppers to give it some bite. It was delicious and fresh tasting. The squid was cooked to perfection. The only comment I would have is , it did not need the raw clams. It didn't add to the salad. We shared this salad. We then shared the roasted beet salad. It had arugula, beets, goat cheese , and roasted hazel nuts. The creamy goat cheese and the crunchy hazelnuts , gave a nice contrast to the salad. This was a very refreshing and fresh tasting salad. It had a honey vinaigrette dressing. Both salads were large enough so that we split them and the staff split each salad and served them in separate dishes. My friend had the Salmon special that looked good and she enjoyed it. I had the Zuppa Di Pesce which was outstanding. It had clams, mussels, shrimp, scallops, scrod, served over a huge serving of flat pasta. It had plenty of fish and flavor. Most restaurants skimp on pasta, but this was not the case here. The service was friendly, helpful and efficient. They did not rush you, but was there when you needed them. I used their valet parking which worked out very well. I also thought it was fairly priced for what you got. This restaurant deserves a repeat visit. read more

Impeccable service and amazing food. This is one of our mandatory spots on work trips to the area. Kelly is magical at her job and the bartenders have great personalities. I'm not a wine guy but my friend who are say this is one of the best they've seen and the owner always gives them a bottle that they rave over. We tried Tre Scalini for the 2019 Restaurant Week. The RW menu had a good selection of options for appetizers and entrees and two desserts to choose from. We had the option to choose one item from each of the three courses or we could order from the extensive regular menu. We both choose the 3 courses and we're very pleased with our selections. Our waiter was attentive and efficient. The food was delicious and the valet parking made our night hassle free. Very good choice! read more

Perfect date night place, it's a affordable family owned fancy restaurant that you honestly can't go wrong going to. The food was Great!!! The appetizers alone made me full and wanting more. Those little risotto balls were so good I scrapped the plate...WITH the spooon don't cha worry. And the NY style calamari has now become my new favorite way of eating this dish thanks to this spot hahah. My honey got some noodle dish with lobster and I got a cease salad BUT I must say besides his dish the bread was probably what I enjoyed most for some reason hahah. Well be back since we live a block away and I can't wait until outdoor seating opens and it's warm out that will make it even better, inside is beautiful and welcoming. My husband and I came here on a Thursday night around 5. The restaurant was pretty empty, but I knew it it would probably fill up. The host was adamant to people walking in they'd need a reservation. There wasn't enough wait staff. I felt bad for the four people that were in charge of the entire dining room (about 20 tables?) Therefore the service was super slow. And the waiters were frazzled and didn't know what server had taken what tables order already. When we left about 7:30 the place was packed which seemed senseless given there was still only four servers. We ordered drinks, I had a sangria that was delicious and the best drink I've ever had. My husband ordered the black and blue which he enjoyed and then ordered a coffee type of cocktail after I can't remember. He enjoyed both. Appetizer was Palle Di Risotti, flavor was good but chilly on the inside. I ordered Pollo Carbonara which was decent but kind of boring. My husband ordered Vitello Alla Giuseppe, he said was ok but nothing special. Dessert was Crème brûlée and bread pudding. Very tasty.
