What a great dining experience. We started with the charcuterie board which is enormous. It contained 3 different types of cured Italian meats, olives, 3 types of cheeses, pine nuts and bread. It was really good, so much that we could not eat it all. For my entree I had the veal bolognese which was outstanding. It was so rich and flavorful. To end the night we had the orange olive oil cake which was good. Overall, we were really impressed with the restaurant and the service. We will definitely go back.the restaurant was really nice, a cool vibe!

We came to Villa Lulu for dinner and had an enjoyable meal outside, except for the occasional moped blasting music. We weren't sure about the portions and ordered way too much food for 2 people: - Crabcake ($18+) - Scallops ($18+) - Mushroom Crostini ($14+) - Brussel Sprouts ($8+) - Mesclun Mix ($14+) - Caesar Salad ($13+) We absolutely loved the scallops with polenta and lobster bisque. They were delicious and we will surely be ordering them again. The crabcakes were good and the salads were ok. The mushrooms had too much garlic and the sauce was overpowering. As for the service, they came around a lot at the start of our meal and tried to clear away plates which still had food on them. But later on when we actually had plates which needed to be cleared or wanted to get the check, they were nowhere to be seen. Perhaps the experience is different inside. We were too full for dessert, but hope to try them next time.

Villa Lulu was such a great find! We sat outside on a beautiful day and it made the whole experience feel even more special. The chicken parmesan and bolognese were both absolutely phenomenal and the pasta tasted so fresh. Our waitress was super kind and helpful from start to finish. Cozy atmosphere, amazing food, and one of those spots that makes you want to come back again and again. Highly recommend grabbing a table outside and enjoying the street atmosphere!

Went before Les Mis and the food was delicious! So fresh. My sister and I split a chicken Caesar salad and the spicy rigatoni. Our mother had the ricotta gnocchi. Everything freshly made and so good. I wish we had time for dessert but had to run to the theatre. We sat outside and it was lovely! Just wish it was closer to return to.

Great lunch spot in New Haven! Seafood was really fresh and everything came out hot and delicious. The service was really quick and friendly. We were in and out and back to business. The location is interesting and feels like you are in someone's home that was transformed into a restaurant with multiple floors and rooms available.

We came here for lunch during restaurant week and the food was delicious! Service during lunchtime was quick and attentive. I ordered the branzino and it was amazing!

The most charming Italian spot tucked inside an antique home. It's like fine dining at Grandma's in the best possible way--perfectly fancy yet super cozy. I loved that they offered an eggplant meatball, which didn't disappoint. Our server was amazing, and every dish was a hit. We're definitely coming back to Villa Lulu next time we're in New Haven!

Went for a girls night on a Monday night and had a great time - the food and service were amazing. It wasn't busy but we were able to stay until closing with no rush out. Would recommend and would go back!

I visited Villa Lulu for the first time with my boyfriend for New Year's Eve dinner. It was such a nice time. The service was amazing and and the food was delicious. We ordered the crab cake and arancini for appetizers. The arancini was lacking flavor but the sauce was good if you like spice. The crab cake was super tasty and flavorful. It also had a good textured. For dinner, I had one of the NYE's specials which was the Chilean sea bass on top of lobster risotto. It was delicious.....the lobster risotto was creamy and perfectly seasoned. The sea bass melted in my mouth. It was surprisingly so good. My boyfriend ordered the spicy ala vodka rigatoni with breaded chicken and it was really good. I definitely would recommend Villa Lulu. I didn't catch our server's name, but she was extremely sweet and made us feel very welcomed.

Myself and three friends went here to celebrate myself in another friend's birthday during New Haven restaurant week. We went for lunch on a Sunday. The restaurant itself looked very nice and fancy. The staff was nice. It was disappointing that the menu for restaurant week was different in person than it was online. Some of us did plan on ordering something that was no longer on the menu.. we each ordered an appetizer and an entrée. Two of my friends ordered arancini and they both really liked it. They also ordered the chicken Parmesan. I think they both thought it was OK myself and my other friend who were celebrating our birthdays we ordered the eggplant meatballs. I had to make sure there was vegetarian options for myself. I read some reviews and they said that the eggplant meatballs were delicious. I did not care for them. They did not have much flavor. We also both ordered the vegetable risotto as we were told that it was a special dish just for restaurant week. I actually really love risotto so I was excited. Unfortunately both of ours were undercooked. The rice was crunchy. They were happy to take it back and remake it I was just concerned that it would happen again and we both decided to get the rigatoni al vodka.. It was rich and creamy. I thought it was good. Overall, I wasn't excited about the food. I would go again at a different time to try the food again especially since the staff was super nice.

Stopped here on Independence day for an unplanned dinner and it turned out really great! It was pretty busy outside so that was a good sign. I got a hugo spritz and we started off with the arancini. It was sooo good! Then for entrees we got the prosciutto pizza and the lobster ravioli. Both were tasty. Our server was very attentive. Made for a wonderful night overall.

My fiancé and I visited Villa Lulu prior to seeing a show next door and were very happy with our meal! We started dining a little after 6pm and even with a drink, appetizer, and our entrees, we were out a little after 7pm with plenty of time to spare before our show. Our server, Mario, was attentive and professional. We were very impressed with the charcuterie board we received - this is how every restaurant should be serving them! Plenty of meats, cheeses, and accompaniments to enjoy. Our pasta dishes were delicious with very flavorful sauces, and the portions were just the right amount with no leftovers to take home. I liked that we were seated upstairs, and it was a really nice vibe. I would definitely go back here for Italian dining in New Haven and would absolutely come back prior to seeing a show in the area.

Villa LuLu is not the same restaurant it once was. The service was extremely subpar, it almost felt like the waiter was AVOIDING our table. We were one of maybe 3 or 4 tables on a slow Sunday evening. About halfway through dinner our water glasses were empty and we waited for about 20 minutes to even see our server to be able to ask for a refill. The calamari was rubbery, and the arancini was bland. Our entrees were small and left us hungry and reminiscing of better Italian restaurants we had been to in the past. Everything was over priced for extremely basic and boring food. The bathroom sink had a hole in the porcelain and a light bulb out. The dining room chandeliers had bulbs out. If this is the attention and upkeep they give to the places customers see, I'm afraid to look in the kitchen. I guess this place was empty for a reason.

The Diavolina was good, but I think some more spicy salami or maybe an additional spicy component would have been a good addition to the pizza. It needed just a little bit more on the flavor side. But still everything here is high quality and I would recommend! Service was excellent. We were immediately seated and had the option to sit inside or outside. I first sat inside, then we moved to a larger table outside. What I really appreciated as a new mom, was their openness and flexibility for coming in with a stroller. I was nervous to be a burden to the restaurant, but they were super accommodating. Thank you On room for improvement, I think on a hot day, having the inside space being much much cooler, than the outdoor seating (especially for newborns/really young kids/elderly) would be beneficial. Yesterday it was cool inside to start (and remember I chose to move outside), but they started to leave the front door open to allow for easy movement of staff and guests between inside and outside, which made the indoor space get warmer over time. And I totally get that for the ease of movement for staff/guests, but maybe consider keeping it super cool on the inside, so that kiddos/elderly have a cool space on a really hot day to not overheat. The vibe here is great. Chill, warm and light! Come with family and/or friends and enjoy!

The centerpiece of the room is the wood-fired oven, running hot and glowing with that perfect orange flame. The aroma of burning wood hits you right away and sets the tone. From that moment on, the culinary experience is in motion. We ordered The Mootz and Breaking My Meatballs. Both pies are built on a very thin, tender crust with beautiful leoparding. The dough is flavorful and clearly well-fermented. Sauce is applied with restraint, just enough to support the dough and cheese without overpowering them, and it delivers a clean, bright tomato flavor. Breaking My Meatballs was the standout. Homemade meatballs, herbed ricotta, cherry peppers, mozzarella, and that same balanced sauce. The cherry peppers bring a sharp vinegar tang that cuts perfectly through the richness of the ricotta and meatballs. Every bite hits a different note, and it all works together. Easily one of my favorites. The crust across the board was thin and tender with a delicate smoky char from the wood fire, exactly what you want from this style. Bottom line: Great spot.
