After reading the reviews here, I was a bit hesitant to try their breakfast. However, I had to know for myself. The low star reviews are not wrong. There wasn't one major thing that I was disappointed by, rather multiple small things. I walk in and am told to sit wherever I like. It is no wonder they have such long wait times sometimes because there aren't many tables. It looked like they put decorations up for Halloween, so it was a bit cluttered as well. I chose a table for two, which I quickly realized has barely enough space for just me. There was one waitress working my table and two others. Despite the place being dead, as it had just opened ten minutes ago, she seemed very rushed. When she came back with my water, I told her I was ready to order. She interrupted me saying she would be right back. She wasn't. I finally ordered the Magnolia Breakfast with soft bacon, eggs over medium, and a chocolate chip pancake. The food came out about five minutes later. The bacon I was given was super hard and crunchy. The waitress stood five feet away and asked if everything was okay a few minutes after she gave me the food. She was expecting me to say yes. When she realized I had an issue, she came closer to hear me. I don't usually complain, but I wanted soft bacon. She took it back, and they remade it "as soft as they can do." The pancake had a weird consistency, and the chocolate milk was just milky Hershey syrup. It also seemed to go down after sitting for a few minutes, so I really only had half a cup of chocolate milk. What a creative setting! Treehouse out front sets the mood and you walk through the woods to get to the cafe itself. We enjoyed a mimosa to start. Molly made friends with the tortoise. The side salad was cool since we sat outside. The black and blue burger was delicious. We even took a hamburger to go! Leighsa did a great job taking care of us! We'll be back! The restaurant is really unique and I can't say that I've been to another one like it. They have tortoises outside that you can feed and it is also nice to just look at them if you want to. The staff is nice. When we went, most of them seemed like highs schoolers and that maybe this was their first job, but they were trying and we're polite, so I didn't really experience anything negative. I got just a plain cheeseburger which was pretty good, I really liked the bun that they used. The menu was small, but I'm an indecisive person so I really don't mind it, it makes it easier for me to choose. I just recently moved to Magnolia, so I was really excited to try this place out. I've been told that the restaurant has changed owners recently, so I hope that they do well. I think if they have the time and money, they should do some renovations and nail down a concept for the restaurant. It was summer when I went, so I understand it being a little warm, but at one point I was getting kind of uncomfortable at how stuffy it was getting, especially when more guests started to arrive. It's also kind of weird to walk up to the restaurant and see zombies in the trees, and then turn around to see really cute tortoises. I understand wanting to be quirky and memorable, but I think there is a difference between quirky and messy. But I did enjoy my experience and I really hope that this restaurant can be successful, especially since the area is growing, I hope they can grow too. read more

Really enjoyed this small cafe tucked away from the highway in the trees in Magnolia TX. Our party of 6 was accommodated at one of 2 tables set up for 6 guests on a weekday morning - I am told there is quite a line on the weekends, so be prepared! I ordered the Magnolia Breakfast - 2 eggs, hash browns, 2 bacon, and paid a dollar fifty to upgrade my toast to a waffle. Everything was as expected - very tasty and well cooked, our compliments to the chef! The service was just okay, our waitress may have been new. We would likely return on a weekday, but I would not be interested in waiting to eat here on the weekend, even though they have a cool waiting area with several large turtles to entertain you. read more

First and probably last time in. We, especially our kids, were so excited to try this place and even more excited once they saw the turtles. We sat outside until the bugs got to our toddler and then waited for a table inside. We were told we could sit in the booth by the window as the family with children already sitting there asked to be moved. We took it. Big mistake, DON'T! There is a zombie out that window that terrified our young kids. Then, as were eating, a zombie head flies up and slams into the window right next to our faces. Talk about terrifying young children to the point that one family leaves the table and ours are terrified. Not to mention a family member who is a veteran with PTSD sitting there with us getting scared/spooked. THIS IS NOT OKAY. NOT THE SETTING TO HAVE SCARY ITEMS. We asked the waitress if that "feature" could be turned off and she said "it's a manual switch in the kitchen, I'll ask them to stop." So they just see a family sitting there with small children and do those types of things in the middle of lunch... During the summer... Not like we took them there at Halloween or anything. HOW INCONSIDERATE! What happens if someone sitting there chokes because of this or someone who has legitimate issues (like PTSD) or an anger problem sits there and this happens to them at lunch one day. THE TARGET OF YOUR "PRANKS" SHOULDN'T BE YOUR PAYING CUSTOMERS... ESPECIALLY FAMILIES WITH YOUNG CHILDREN! That alone will keep us from returning. I truly hope the owners have no idea this is happening but read this and correct the behavior. Running customers off on purpose isn't funny. Scaring unknowing people isn't funny. Terrifying children isn't funny. And hopefully, losing business and terrifying people is the worst that comes from this, for their sake. The service was good. We did have to ask the other servers to fetch our server as we waited about 20 minutes with just menus and water but after that, we had excellent service. My food was ok. Nothing to write home about but I ate most of the sandwich. The fries were great. Neither of our kids would eat the burgers... And after a bite of it myself, I understand why. It tasted off... The outside of this place is so unsuspected that I had to park and walk again before I decided I was actually at a real restaurant. Much to my surprise once I entered the establishment through the trees it was quite warm cozy and quaint. In appearance that is, unfortunately I wasn't as warm as I hoped I think I picked a drafty area to sit in. However the food was delicious although rather small portions and I don't even eat a lot. I'm going to give them a pass on this inconvenience because I was still a bit hungry but I understand that food prices are off the chart right now and businesses are trying to survive. Maybe string some lights and play good music as well as opening up the cool room that has a tree growing through it! So cool! Don't go. This restaurant is not prepared to properly handle the growth of Magnolia and additional patrons. As soon you go in they'll let you know the 'kitchen is backed up', as you look around to an half empty place. The people at tables outside are not even apart of the restaurant seating; they're also waiting for seating inside. After a wait looking at the turtles on poorly kept grounds, you get seated in a booth with a table that's too far from the benches. You order your drinks; be advised no matter the age of the kids they will charge the adult price for the drinks, if you don't catch them. You'll order your food and then wait. They'll come back in 15-20 mins and let you know the kitchen is backed up and the food will be out shortly and can they do anything for you. You'll have to tell them what drink you need a refill for because they won't offer. The very below average and bland food will eventually arrive that you will have to force yourself to eat because you're so hungry at this point. Then it's time to ask for the bill which you will sit another 15-20 mins after they've taken your half eaten plates because the waiters are so busy talking to each other they forget to come back to you, which makes sense why the wait is so long for a table; hint: not because they're so good. You'll look at the bill and see they have nickel and dime you for every little thing. I ate with my 15, 5 & 3 year old. With two kids meals, there's no reason our meal is almost $70! The kids meal do not include a drink and it's $8 already and they charged additional $3 for a waffle SUBSTITUTION when there's no meal that includes a waffle and it's no mention of an up-charge for it with the kids meal. After pushing back and them sending 3 different people over to us they finally reduced the total bill about $5. Save yourself the trouble! There's a brand new Toasted Yolk down 1488, that got it together. Supporting this local business will leave you feeling robbed and hungry! read more

About the time I started to get impatient the server came over and took our entire order. We ordered fish sandwich and a salad. This place is very unique, a great place to bring kids and family! You see a "cafe sign" on a treehouse on the side of the highway. When you get there you just park on the gravel pavement. The funniest part is you don't see a cafe anywhere in sight. Until, you notice a hole in the woods that leads you down a path to a little shack. They have huge tortoises outside of the cafe! That's definitely not something you see every day. I loved interacting with the tortoises since you could tell they loved people and were well fed and happy. Nothing better than an establishment that loves and cares for their animals properly. On to the food... the food was amazing, it all tasted like your grandparents cooked it for you. Everything was made from scratch. Homemade bananas foster pancakes were so fresh and fluffy! The coffee tasted like home as well. The employees were all super sweet and attentive and treated my mother and I like we were apart of their own family. I have gone twice and the food both time where excellent in flavor, quality and quantity. The service was on point.

Suffice to say, our first time here will also be our last. I don't know if this is a new thing here, as I don't see anyone else talking about it in reviews, but this place has a "feature" that is going to put it out of business one day. My wife and I came in for brunch and were seated inside at the booth nearest to the zombie graveyard outside the window (front left corner when you enter through the front door). Be warned, if you sit at this table, or even the ones near it, there is a set up outside of that window to jump-scare you. The first one just gets pulled up in the middle of the window and makes no noise or physical contact with the window--it made us jump, but we were able to laugh about it and continue our visit in good spirits. Then they used this much heavier/harder zombie head, which hit the window with a very jarring thud. We were much more upset by this, and I asked a passing waitress if she could stop that from happening again, to which she apologized and said she would. Fast forward 10 or so minutes, when we now have our food and are trying to eat, the zombie head gets pulled yet again. We're both very upset now, and I go to the front counter very frustrated and more firmly asked them once again to stop, to which they apologized and said not everyone heard the first time we asked and it wouldn't happen again. We finished our meal, but we couldn't enjoy ourselves at that point, and were upset and on edge the rest of the time. I tried to offer my suggestion as we left that they reconsider having this mechanism here, and was met by very dismissive attitudes, saying "we normally get laughs from that", with the tone of 'so we're going to keep doing it anyway'. If you're the owner somehow reading this, this needs to be done away with immediately. We are nice, calm people, and WE were pissed off by this--imagine someone with much more of a temper. It's a restaurant, not a haunted house where people are expecting something like that. We are also young and in good health--what happens if this happens to someone with a heart condition? What if a baby (or even an adult) gets startled and inhales their food and starts choking? That glass is also single-pane, what happens if one day it shatters? There's no warning, no waiver, nothing, and all it takes is doing this to the wrong person and you'll wind up in big trouble. It seems like a massive risk for not much reward. It's not my business, so if upsetting potential customers is worth the risk of getting sued, more power to you; but if you're a lawyer reading this, keep this place on your radar--if this isn't changed, it will be an easy pay-day for you someday. read more

Will not be returning the customer service was like nothing I have ever experienced and as someone who works as a host in a restaurant I was completely baffled by how they handled this situation. (tbh I would not have returned anyways because the food was mediocre at best) Before we went to restaurant we called and asked if they were still accepting a certain coupon deal to which they replied yes. After arriving and being seated we once again asked our server if they were still able to do the deal and once again she said yes. We were clear both times what the deal we were talking about was by saying "2 meals for $25" as in you get 2 meals (from a specific part of the menu) for $25. We also asked to make sure dessert was included and once again our server said yes. When we got out bill we expected it to be around $50 because there were four of us but it was around $88. We were confused and asked about the coupon deal and they said the deal they applied was $10 off of $50. Obviously very different than what we had expected and had asked about. They claimed they never had a 2 for $25 deal even though our sever seemed as though she had known what we were talking about and had even pointed out the part of the menu we were allowed to order from for the 2 for $25. Not to mention the people I was with had been here before (a week ago) and used this coupon deal. Now usually in the service industry you would do anything you could to accommodate the customer, but absolutely nothing was done. Tbh we would have been happy if they just took the desserts off of the bill (which we ordered because they were included in the deal we thought we were getting) or really any kind of accommodation, but they did nothing. We ended up paying the $88 which was the bill with the $10 off of $50. But again if we knew that was the deal we'd be getting we would not have ordered desserts and probably would not have even eaten here in the first place. read more
