Magnolia Diner absolutely nails the atmosphere. The fun 50s and 60s theme gives it a nostalgic charm, and it's the kind of place that's enjoyable to look around while you wait for your meal. The staff was one of the biggest highlights of our visit. Everyone was incredibly kind, attentive, and welcoming. They checked on us often without ever making us feel rushed or interrupted, which is a balance that's surprisingly hard to find. Unfortunately, the food just didn't live up to the experience. While everything arrived fresh and looked appealing, the flavors were very underwhelming. Most of our meal was bland and lacked the seasoning or depth that would make us want to come back. We kept expecting each bite to have that classic diner comfort-food flavor, but it never quite got there. I genuinely wanted to love this place because the people and the atmosphere were wonderful. With a few improvements to the food, I think Magnolia Diner could be really good. Small town diner with all the classic american dishes from the 1960s-- all day breakfast, burgers and sandwiches and dinner plates like chicken fried steak and catfish. Fairly modern construction. Decorated in vintage movie posters clean and in good repair. Prompt and friendly service. The food was all good, freshly made. The onion rings stood out with slightly crunchy onions. I ordered the Reuben. Which is corned beef, Sauerkraut, and melted swiss cheese on rye. Excellent. Overall, this is a solid choice if you want to time teavel to a Diner with retro food. read more

Magnolia Diner should come with a warning: may cause extreme happiness, food-induced tears, and uncontrollable grinning. The service was so fast I half expected my waitress to have a twin. The place was packed, but somehow still charming--clearly people know that the food here is basically magic on a plate. I had the country fried steak, which was huge and flavorful I briefly considered asking it to marry me. My fiancé got the big breakfast with biscuits and gravy instead of toast, and I swear the eggs, meat, pancakes, and biscuits were all conspiring to ruin every other breakfast I've ever had. Pancakes fluffier than clouds in a Pixar movie with a sweetness you question if it's just a flat cake, biscuits softer than a cloud's hug, and gravy that might actually be liquid happiness. Hashbrowns perfectly crispy on the outside and tender on the inside--basically the Goldilocks of potatoes. If you go to Magnolia Diner and don't leave full, happy, and plotting your next visit, you are either a robot or lying. Been coming here for years and I've always loved it. I have left positive reviews in the past. I just had a roach on my table after having awful service also. Went and told a guy. He came and killed it with his hand and went back to work. Didn't wash ihis hands. Didn't disinfect the table. Nothing. First time here, came on a Sunday morning and it was packed which is fine but the waiting service was horrible. I waited at the door because there was a line, turns out the line was already checked in, waiting to be seated, then I finally got to put my name down and they only call by name so everyone just waits in the front waiting to be called. Just what you would expect from a rural community diner. Obviously a local favorite serving up breakfast, lunch,dinner all day long. From the greeting to the payment the service was friendly and comfortable. I ordered the cheesesteak which came with plenty of fries.It was a tough call because I had Rueben on my mind, I glad I went we it because it hit the spot it was delicious and plenty to fill me up. Old country looking hole in the wall restaurant. Nothing special on the inside; old lumpy booths, dirty carpets and dated nostalgia adorns all the walls. Don't come for the ambiance! The food? "LATE BREAKFAST or EARLY LUNCH" Last Wednesday when we were in Spring, TX we introduced a few friends to "Magnolia Diner" on FM-1488 in Magnolia. My Wife and I have been to the one in Montgomery and Loved Everything we had there. We arrived for an early Lunch and were shown to a table for the 5 of us. Angela is our Server and after looking over the menu we ordered. My Wife is having the "Mini English Breakfast"; 1 Egg (Scrambled), 1 Sausage, 1 Wrights BACON with choices of Hashbrowns ot Toast, chose Hashbrowns. I am having the "Mediterranean Omelette"; Three Egg Omelette filled with Sautéed Baby Spinach, BACON, Tomato & Feta Cheese. Chose as my sides; Hashbrowns & Fruit. Magnolia Diner is a classy Diner done up 50's style with a Hollywood Twist - and it's Awesome. We arrived early and after a short time there were a lot of customers here enjoying what we came for - Great Tasting Food. Soon our food arrived and everyones plate is loaded with Deliciousness. My Wife Loved her Mini English Breakfast and would order it again. My Three-Egg Omelette is nice-n-big and has a lot of Goodies inside. We both Love Hashbrowns and Magnolia does it right - providing you with the Perfect Hashbrown Crunch. The Fruit Bowl is really good, Fresh & Sweetlylicious. Everyone enjoyed what they ordered and were filled to the top - no room for the Banana Split. Next time I'm going to order the Banana Split first, then Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner. Check out Magnolia Diner on Facebook and choose the one you want to go to. They also offer a true "Banana Split" of Yesteryear and it alone is a thing of beauty and a lot of it. To give them a fare assessment, I ate there three times. The mashed potatoes and gravy were horrible, they tasted old. The waitress said she was sorry. I forgot and tried them again the next time...same thing. The black-eyed peas...horrible! I asked questions and found out that almost nothing is made from scratch and it shows. We go to Magnolia Diner a LOT and I'm remiss not posting a review before now! We have only gone for breakfast and haven't tried any other items on the menu but, their breakfast is ALWAYS good! It's our go-to for a good breakfast. The portions are very generous. We have tried just about everything in the breakfast menu and they even serve milkshakes for breakfast! (This was important to my son that travels overseas. Breakfast with steak & a milkshake is the first meal when coming home.) This is a double review because we ate there twice in one day. For breakfast on our way to the Renaissance Festival -- so as not to show up there hungry and be persuaded to buy an $18 turkey leg or a $16 Greek gyro. Their breakfast menu has a great selection and the prices are definitely on point for the amount of food they serve you. What caught my attention was the friendliness of all of the employees. From the young hostess to our server who was friendly and attentive. She expertly kept an eye on us as she passed by serving her other tables. We were never without a drink refill and our meal didn't feel rushed despite most of the tables being occupied. At the checkout, there was a display of handmade earrings for sale very reasonably priced ($6.50 per pair). It was just a good experience. After leaving the Renaissance festival, we were definitely hungry but not ready to pay for more overpriced food. We also had a long drive home. I suggested we stop by Magnolia Diner again. My family agreed. The restaurant was not very crowded but there were three large groups (10+) at each table and some other couples dining. We asked to be seated at the same booth we had been at that morning. The host commented, "where you sat earlier today?" and I gladly explained we had been there that morning and now for dinner. I have to say that by the time we finished our meal, the restaurant was teeming with patrons. We showed up at a time too late for lunch and too early for dinner. We ordered chicken fried steak dinner, fried catfish dinner and grilled catfish dinner with various sides they offered. The service, again, was fast and friendly. The turn around on our food coming to the table was really quick considering how everything was well prepared, had a nice presentation and HOT!! Nothing was lukewarm. My fried catfish fillets were huge, fried crisp but with the fish not over cooked. My first bite had me trying to keep myself from burning my mouth. But the fish was delicate and almost buttery. No one was complaining and everyone enjoyed their food. My Dad was the only one who finished his food. Our server checked to see if we wanted to-go containers and inquired if we wanted dessert. We told her no and she didn't press but when she returned I asked about what was available. So many delicious sounding items but I asked her to bring a peach cobbler and a side of vanilla ice cream and 3 spoons. I explained it was "for the table" and she understood completely: the cobbler was served very warm with ice cold ice cream. The pairing was delicious. She even thought about bringing us iced tea length spoons for us to reach to the middle of the table to share the dessert. All in all, both visits were EXCELLENT. Of course the waitstaff had changed because of the shift. But the personable service, courtesy and attention to detail were on point and present during both visits. The management staff should appreciate the young men and women expertly serving their customers and should commend them for their efforts. It definitely raised our dining experience having them being so good at their job! If I lived any closer, that would be a spot I would visit often. Would like to dine there again sometime in the near future when I have a chance. read more

Restaurant closes earlier than reported time by 30 mins to an hour fairly often (at least twice in the past 4-5 weeks). They either need a second manager or a fill-in or other changes. We really enjoy the food, but this is very disappointing. We were bringing in business or new guests with us fairly often. Mom is buried near by so twice a year I end up in old magnolia. So after a nice tearful visit I opted to head in to town for a late lunch. I was surprised how many place weren't open since it's mothers day, but the magnolia diner didn't let me down. The place seemed small on the outside, but pretty roomy once you get inside. Seems they a still running with a limited menu, so not as many options available. I went for the Philly with some onion rings. The sandwich was pretty good, but the rings were a bit of a disappointment. Honestly I probably should have gone for the breakfast, so maybe on Mom's birthday I will.
