If a restaurant left me feeling like this I wouldn't be writing a review, I'd be calling the Health Department! I've waited as long as I could to review The Adventure Park, I really have. Even moving my fingers still hurts. Five Stars. Six! As someone often accused of being too serious, The Adventure Park is serious. Being serious is the focus, not image, not even fun. It CAN be fun, but only to keep you going forward, overcoming the course. Adventure Parks are like a combination of a zipline tour and an aerial obstacle course. You progress down one of a number of trails, moving from platform to platform by the obstacles between them. The platforms are small, maybe two feet wide, wrapped around a tree. The rules say no more than two people on a single platform, but you'd have to be really close to get more than that anyway. Two to a platform, but one person at a time on the obstacles which vary but require a combination of balance, strength, speed and flexibility to overcome. Many of the obstacles would look appropriate in a kung-fu movie training montage. A series of loops of rope, hanging down from above, that you cross as they sway. Or a path of 4x1 planks with a safety line only a few feet above them, so one must crawl or creep. Ladders where the rungs are three inch logs held on cables two feet apart, that will lean away from you as you climb. A series of see-saws you have to walk across. Lengthwise. They are serious about safety. First a staff member fits you into a Fall Arrest Harness, holding you by your thighs, shoulders and waist. You want it to be well into the snug range, if not tight, as much as you can get without impeding motion. You'll be in the harness a while. Once you're harnessed up, there's basic safety training. Attached to your harness are two locking clips and a carrier. The clips are mechanically interlocked so that one of them is ALWAYS locked. You can only unlock the locked clip by pressing a special connector on the inside of the unlocked clip. By putting the connector on the cables of the course, you have to lock your 'free' clip to the next element of the course before you can release yourself from your current element. I'm an engineer who likes to bypass things and I couldn't come up with any way to defeat the system. The carrier on the harness is used for the many ziplines in the course. Carrier onto zipline, locking clip onto zipline, then resting in an indentation on the carrier but still locked around line. Free clip to loop. Sit down and go. No way to fall. No way off until the end of a trail except rescue. It's still possible to get tangled; one of the staff told me how he'd gotten so tangled in one of the obstacles in training they needed to rescue him. Speaking of rescues, if there is even one guest on the course there will be four staff members present, at least two of them "rescue trained" to respond to tangles and other emergencies. At similar adventure parks they've found the most common causes of needing rescue result from dehydration. There is not water on the trails; that would be difficult up in the trees. But there is plentiful water on the ground and climbers need to take advantage of it. The Trails are color-coded by difficulty, Yellow, Green, Blue, Black and Double Black. You are required to do a Green before you go onto Blue, Blue before Black, and Black before Double Black. Starting on Green I expected to find the first courses tame. I was wrong. I did manage to complete the Green Course well enough but I had to work for the Blue Course. I've done martial arts for years, grappled in a swiss seat I've tied myself, do yoga. Blue is the MIDDLE difficulty, and boy did I have to work for it. read more

Oh my gosh! Swinging through the trees, I felt like Tarzan (I know, I should have felt like Jane, gender-wise, but I felt like Tarzan). Of course, negotiating the well crafted rope courses at The Adventure Park at West Bloomfield takes a little more mental and physical work than hanging from a vine, but it's that combo of mental and physical challenge that makes this the most fun I've had being healthy in ages! The harness seemed complicated at first, but I got used to it by the time I was on my second element. The youngsters who were there seemed to catch on even more quickly. And if you think you're too out of shape, think again! I am very out of shape, but that just meant that the easier courses were the right challenge for me. I can tell you what, I will definitely be back again soon, and having fun swinging through the trees is going to be part of my strategy to get back in shape! read more

This place is way too much fun. My wife and I were looking for something interesting, different, and local to do for a part of our anniversary celebration. This location had just opened up and it sounded like fun so we decided to give it a shot. Very glad we did. Absolutely 100% recommended. I'll start by calling out the elephant in the room. The price is a bit steep. At $49 for three hours of "adventuring" there are certainly less expensive ways to spend your day. But the quality and abundance of courses as well as staff made it all worth it. When everything was said and done, I didn't feel cheated in the least. Would happily shell out the cash to do it again. (Note that kids cost less and there are specials such as group rates and reduced prices if you show up within a few hours of closing time) First thing you have to do when you get there is register and pay at the entrance. After that the staff fit you with your harness and give you a 20ish minute tutorial and safety briefing. Once you've proven that you understand the basics of your safety equipment, they send you on your way and the fun begins. There are courses of varying difficulty levels so if you've never done this kind of thing before you'll probably want to hit the "bunny slopes" and work your way up. We did a couple of medium-difficulty courses. Each course is full of zip lines and challenges designed to test your balance, strength, and agility. The green circle course we did was fun and contained just enough of a difficulty level to keep us engaged while we figured out how the place worked. After that we did a blue square course which had challenges varying from a little trickier than the green circle course, all the way to OH MY GOD I REALLY HOPE THEY DON'T HAVE TO COME UP HERE AND RESCUE MY PATHETIC SELF. To that last point, the staff are friendly, courteous, and helpful. They are positioned all over the park and if you need help or have no idea what to do next, they will assist you. They also did a really good job of not making us feel like as big of idiots as we sometimes felt like. They were compassionate and full of useful pointers, sometimes when asked for and sometimes not. And you can tell they take the safety of their guests seriously. They are watching closely and on more than one occasion I saw them intervene when they saw someone doing something "wrong". The only real complaint I have about the place--and I'm not even sure complaint is the right word--is that the pacing can be kind of slow depending on who you get stuck around. For example, when we first got there, a huge group was getting outfitted with their harnesses and we had to wait a fairly long time until it was our turn. And while out on the course, you can either get stuck behind a group that is slower than your own, or you can be the ones unintentionally slowing the group behind you down. We experienced both sides of this today. And unlike, say, golf... it's not a simple matter to simply let the faster group go ahead of you (due to the limited space on the platforms in the trees). If this is something that sounds like it could be fun to you, I would advise you to give it a shot. If the price is holding you back, I still say go for it. We actually left after only two hours on the courses (not the three you pay for) and it still wound up feeling like it was worth the money. And I'll have all the aches and pains to prove it for days to come... in a good way, of course. read more

You can't feasibly give 5 stars just because it's $50 each. An much fun as we had and as terrific as the guides are, it's just never going to be worth $50. A family of 5, even in bloomfield area, is not dropping $250 for 2 hours of climbing. ( they give you a 3 hour omit but you will, realistically, be tired out after 2 if you do the harder courses , at least e first time out, and at $250, there won't be a second anytime soon) Having said that, the tougher courses are challenging, In a good way, and the guides are knowledgable and helpful. If you push yourself through black level, you will feel like you really accomplished something he first time. Ad your sore muscles will remind you the next day. It's great to have a destination/attraction so close to home for visitors are truly special occasions. read more

My review does not reflect the service we were provided as it was top notch. Everyone we worked with was more than helpful and friendly. I, personally, did not enjoy my visit this past weekend for a couple of reasons. First, we had Haunted Trail tickets but didn't know we had picked the family friendly version and it was a bit awkward going through as a married couple without children. However, my biggest regret was that I seemed to be too big to enjoy the ropes course (being 6'4") as my harness did not fit like it should have and I felt hunched over for the duration of my visit. Furthermore, the courses weren't accommodating for my frame, so I turned around after a couple of walks between trees and left. There seemed to be a big traffic jam on our course that would have led us to wait a long time to get the end anyways. read more

This was such a fun experience. I was nervous but the safety session helped me feel confident in my abilities and I conquered my fears.

So much fun! My 8 year old and 10 year old were talking about wanting to come back before they even finished their course. It's a combo of tree climbs and zip lines. There's 10 different courses to pick from for various age rages and experience levels. I personally assessed the harnesses and safe factor to the whole process. It's essentially fool proof and near impossible for a kid to fall off. Once you get two hooks on, it is impossible to take both hooks off at the same time. It's very safe and easy for kids to use. Plus there is plenty of staff around in case a kid gets stuck somehow. With that in mind, you should know that it's only for 7+ years. However make sure you asses it and you're sure your kid won't freak from heights and hold up the line. They CAN get off, but it's annoying and frustrating for the kid, especially if the kid is already frightened. I would totally come back to this place in future visits MI. read more

With courses for people of all levels, this is fantastic park for children and adults alike. Most importantly, they take safety seriously and even though I was dangling 30 feet off the ground, I never once felt unsafe. From ziplining to balancing on ropes and logs, the activities at the park provide not only a huge adrenaline rush but also a great workout. Free water stations are available around the park and staff also patrol the area to give tips and help with whatever's needed. Lastly, the park is nicely shaded, so even on a hot day, this is a great place to visit. I love how this park is so well-integrated with nature. Instead of chopping trees down to build it, the park is comfortably nestled inside the forest so five gold stars for the eco-friendliness here!! The only downside is that guests can only spend a maximum of 3 hours in the park, and intermediate/advanced courses take probably at least 45 minutes. Because of the time limit, I felt like I had to rush and didn't take rests in between. With training and waiting times factored in, I found that I only had time to do two of the nine or ten courses. read more

I had some gift card codes that I was unable to use until recently and Regina helped me with everything within a matter of hours from my initial email! Then when we finally got to the park we received a masterful tutorial from a very patient employee whose name I unfortunately forget. All staff members we encountered were extremely pleasant and helpful even though it was over 90° out when we went. We unknowingly wore long pants (user error) but that was truly the only downside! This place is so cool! I would have had every birthday party here if it was around when I was a kid. Some of it is really challenging - there were certain spots where I thought I was either going to really hurt myself or fall, but I didn't actually do either. They do a good job of quickly teaching you how to use all of the gear and it's set up in a way that you can't mess up and do it wrong, which was annoying at times when I wanted to cut corners, but definitely a good thing... My biggest complaint is how backed up it can get. We never waited a ridiculous amount of time between obstacles but it would have been nice to be able to go at whatever pace we wanted. There's a couple spots where you have to just jump off of a tall platform and count on the springy rope to catch you which was definitely the scariest part. Located in the Jewish community center (there is a bridge to cross in order to get to the park. They have restrooms in the center that you can use if you do not feel like using the outdoor port a potties.) - I go here at least twice a year during the spring and summer seasons. My friend and I love to challenge ourselves climbing the trees and moving from one obstacle course to another. As you progress through the courses, they get harder, and you really need some grip strength to conquer the entire course. When you head there, you go into a tent where you register and sign the waiver that allows you to enter the place and climb. The place has 14 trails, 45 zip lines, 7 levels of difficulty and 210 Aerial Challenges. I believe this place is the largest zip line park in Michigan. Standard tickets are about $50.19 per person but during this month I believe until Valentine's day they have a special for $35.00 a ticket. That being said however, they do have tickets based on age and time so that plays a factor in the cost as well. Last call tickets are roughly around $36.00 but you only get 2 hours and 40 minutes so about an hour less than a standard aerial ticket. Junior or kids tickets are about $20.00 but then you only get to be on the course for 1 hour and 45 minutes and is limited between the ages of 4-7. For adults, you can still do a lot in those 2 hours depending on how fast you move but the standard ticket is recommended if you want to get through the whole course. Since this place is seasonal you cannot use them on Valentine's day of course but on a later date when the place opens up for the season. The ticket have session times of course and you typically get added time built in to get ready for the climb i.e. getting your harness equipped, going through the safety procedures, and check- in itself. The place opens back up around April during the weekends but later on opens up during the weekdays in June and up until August. There are blackout dates so be sure to check the calendar on the website for confirmation. read more

This place is so much fun! I have always seen things like this on TV but I have never been able to go to one until now and I have gone 3 times so far (mostly because it is not that close to my house, otherwise I would prefer to go more). There are 6 different levels of courses and the employees do a fantastic job of explaining how everything works and being available on the ground if anyone needs help above on the course. They work by reservation which is nice since that limits the amount of people on the course and the time you have to wait between elements. The time allotment is 3 hours and I have found that is a perfect time...by then I am tired and hungry! This is a lot of fun for kids and adults, but I have to say, make sure you know your limits. I have been 3 times and 3 times someone had to be 'rescued' from the same course. read more

My fella took me here on a Sunday afternoon with reservations at 2:30. Follow the signs to park in the lot next to park where the Adventure Park is actually located. You check in at the rounded tent like building. Day admission is abit pricey although worth it if you want to do all the courses. We arrived at 2:00, we're able to start making our way up the path toward the harnessing section by 2:15. We had our picture taken which we later had the option of buying for $20 but we declined. We harnessed ourselves, we're checked by an employee before setting off for the practice platform where we learned how to work our safety lines and zip line. Before we knew it we were making our way up the staircase to where we could choose a path. We started with a medium course. Later on, we tried an intermediate course where I would get stuck. Thankfully they have employees trained in helping people like me out of that pickle. We had a blast. It was also nice they had drinking spigots, benches, tents for events and portapottys. We brought along alittle cooler filled with bottled waters and light snacks that we able to park whilst we climbed. My two complaints- 1) that when we first arrived to harness we were almost left to our own devices to figure out how to do it and work out lines 2)they have courses marked the same color that are different levels of intensity. One blue is not the same as another blue. I felt that should have been noted somewhere. In conclusion, I would say- it was a blast spending a day in the trees pushing ourselves and each other. We are considering returning for a glow night climb. read more

First time going was on glownight/80s theme this past Friday. The staff are very helpful and know their training. Was very intimidated at first, but a great way of facing your fears! Felt very accomplished and proud of my whole group that went. Tried three of the different paths. Unfortunately couldn't finish the one as my body was very weak at the end of the night (Not in great shape, was incredibly sore the next couple days.) Maybe stretch before doing it? I planned a Bachelorette party here for 12 and it was amazing. We went towards the end of the day so we were there when there was still some sunlight and was able to be there at night when the lights turned on. Doing this allowed two different experiences. You could do the same corse at night and it would be completely different. During the day you can see ahead and kind of strategize how you would tackle the obstacle. At night you can only focus on one obstacle at a time. Most of my group were first timers but we immediately went for the yellow corse and went all the way up to blue. Black and double black looked pretty challenging and had large drops. I cannot wait to go back to the adventure park and have some more fun! read more

I loved this park! We booked it for a work group outing and it was so much fun! There are so many courses to choose from at varying skill levels so everyone in our group was able to have a blast! It is such a good value for the $! Beware that most of the courses above the greens have a jump and auto repel from a platform at the end. Each year we let our girls choose dinner and an activity for their birthdays. Our youngest chose The Adventure Park after going there for a school trip this year. We had a great time- staff was friendly and knowledgeable, also very patient when people might struggle with a part of the course. They could talk you through a lot of things while they were on the ground and were also watchful of the kids climbing the courses. I felt like my harness constricted my legs a bit at first but you get used to it. There can sometimes be a back up on certain courses- on one of the green courses a little boy was having trouble reaching certain clips and other things, so when his mom couldn't assist there was a hold up. We tried not to be impatient jerks and just applaud him for his bravery so high up in the air... But something to be aware of. The fun is designed for all ages starting with purple courses and ending with double black diamonds. We did the two yellow and two green courses while our youngest did the two blue courses. I would definitely make an effort to get a Groupon versus paying full price- we had a lot of fun but $144 for the three of us was a little steep. Such a fun place! We bought our tickets a couple days before for a Sunday time and completed the waivers before we got there. We arrived a little early and checked in very quickly. The safety briefing also didn't seem too long and it was definitely needed. We started on a green course then did a blue and black diamond. I initially wanted to just start with blue but we were told we had to complete a green first. It did not appear that this was strictly enforced. The green run was easy and a little slow because there were more kids. The blue was more challenging but still do-able. The black diamond was challenging for me but not for my husband. There were some things I wondered about that were not written in other reviews. First I wondered if my height of 5'0" would put me at a disadvantage at all. I would say this was true, especially on the black diamond course. There is water in the park, but it is from a drinking fountain, so if you don't like that then bring your own water. I also brought my own gloves because I was afraid the ones they have at the park would be too big. My cycling gloves seemed to work pretty well. They warned me about possibly losing my Apple Watch while in the park, but it didn't come loose at all. I recommend wearing capris or pants that stretch. I wore short sleeves and didn't have any issues scraping my arms. I also recommend tightening the harness around your legs often as mine seemed to come loose and then would be uncomfortable when zip lining or jumping off a platform. Jumping off the platforms is probably the scariest part as you are going straight down to the ground! read more

I would love to give this place a 5 star review (and would in a heartbeat if I have an opportunity to have a 5 star experience here - the potential exists), but on my first visit there were some major logistical problems. The good: This is a very cool activity. The variety of courses seem engaging (though I was only able to get through one, as I'll describe below). The one course I did was a lot of fun and I really enjoyed the physical challenge. Although it feels a bit "scary" at times, the park has put a very effective and easy to use safety system in place, which made me feel very safe at all times. I loved going through the blue waterfall course. I visited on glow night. This is a unique and fun concept. The forest is illuminated by lights, which gives it a "lost boys" feel. They provided one free glow toy per guest (a surprising and fun treat!) plus glow paint. They played 80s music. This made for a great atmosphere. Parking is also free and the grounds are beautiful and neat. The bad: The 'waiting' required is inexcusable. I am ordinarily a patient and understanding person, but this place exceeded my patience. I anticipated that a special event would bring crowds and generate wait times. However, the park was completely unprepared to handle it and as a result, over 2/3 of the climb time that we paid for was spent standing around. Since this is a rather expensive activity (even at the twilight price), I expect logistics to be in place to maximize climb time. The problem was present from the moment I approached the trailer at which you pay. I didn't realize you could sign the waiver online in advance (my fault), and it took about 40 minutes to get through the waiver line. Rather than pass waivers out on clipboards, there are 4 iPads (only 3 were working but there didn't appear to be enough staff to send someone over to fix the 4th). People were struggling to figure out the iPad app and type, and it took forever. It's a cool idea, but very impractical. They could easily have a sign outside telling people to fill it out on their smart phones while they wait to limit this bottle necking. It's an unnecessary logistical error that presents a bad customer experience from the start. After getting through the slow waiver line, we approached the payment desk. Only then were we told there was a wait list to climb. I don't have a problem with there being a wait list, but a staff member should have told the people waiting in waiver line 40+ minutes. We put our names on the list and walked out to see the line had tripled in size. We politely let people know there was a wait list. The people in line thanked us. Some stayed, and some left. People waiting in a very slow-moving line should be advised if there is a wait list. This is a terrible customer service problem and frankly pretty easy to resolve (a sign). Also, we were told that there was "no way" to estimate how long the wait list was. This is an odd policy in light of the fact that the tickets sold before us had definite end times. Even when we checked on the status 10 min before we were called to climb, we were told we couldn't be given any sort of time estimate. Really keeps you in limbo, putting faith in the fact that you might be able to climb at some point. We occupied our time and checked out the park and eventually received a text that we were off the wait list (the text is a cool feature). We paid and got our harnesses. We now had about 3 hours of climb time left before close. So we put our harnesses on right away and waited by the training area. And waited. And waited. It was clear that they wanted to train a large group at once, but another harnessed individual didn't show up for 20 minutes. Someone (many staff members were standing around) could have trained us in that 20 minutes. We then could have done the practice course without another bottleneck. Instead, from the time we were harnessed, we waited almost another hour before getting to the course start platform. Upon the platform, we were told that we had to take the blue waterfall course before we could try another course. I understand this rule, but it was clear that too many tickets were sold to allow people to actually complete the course. We waited another 20 minutes before the first person in our 3-person group began the first element. We then each waited 15+ minutes on each platform. It took over an hour to get to the halfway point of the course due to congestion on the course (we were told the entire course takes 45 minutes). We were able to finish the second half of the course in a more timely fashion, since the park was about to close, but it was a very disappointing and a boring experience for most of the night. Of the time we paid for, we had less than an hour of "active" time and the rest was spent waiting due to the event being oversold and poor logistics. I posted a review on their Facebook page and asked that a manager read my review and contact me. No one called. read more

Ive never been to anything like this before but it was such a fun experience. They strap you in and give you a brief tutorial before you get onto the course. The course difficulty is separated by color and you must complete the green before going to the blue or black courses. There isn't a time limit on how long you can be out there so pace yourself!! I had my friend go first so I can watch how he completed the course and follow. The green wasn't very difficult and we started with those. The blue gets more difficult but not undo able. I didn't do the black course but my friends did and it did look difficult. I don't even want to think about the double black course. I think the increase in height makes it all the more scary. This is a full body workout and can get really tiring! The people who work there watching on the floor will give you hints if you're struggling and don't know how to cross parts of the course. Be careful how you're holding onto the wires! If you're holding it with your forearms above the wire you'll probably see scrapes on the underside of your arm! read more
