For BBQ on the westside it's pretty darn good!! I dont eat BBQ but once a month but this is my go to place over here! I really enjoy the family low key feel to the place. The banana pudding is wonderful! The only complaint is they got rid of my favorite sauce....sweet tree. But the other sweet is pretty good too. One time my sons chicken tenders came out burnt but they remade them quickly and they apologized a bunch for it. I even overheard the owner tell the server "I told you not to even take them out". I think he felt like he should bring them out anyways since they were for a kid. But the correct ones only took a couple extra minutes and were great. The beef is the way to go! Got two combination platter s which is 2meats and 2sides for 11.50. I chose turkey (2x), beef, and ribs. My girlfriend loves turkey, hence the double helping. The ribs were tender and delicious I couldn't decide between the beef and the pork and after asking the cashier I went with beef. I love places like these. As we travel, we rely heavily on input from yelp to steer us to these kinds of hole in the wall, nothing too fancy, but good food, kind of places. #1. Employees- super nice and super helpful. Had a hard time deciding on a side and they let me try it before I ordered. I had three different guys that worked there come ask if we needed anything and to make sure we liked everything. #2. Value- we ordered the 2 meat family deal. It was $34.50 and came with 2 meats, 2 quart size sides and 8 slices of buttered, thick, Texas toast. You can order any of the meats they offer (including a full rack or ribs which usually runs $23, al la carte). It was an incredible deal and my family of 5 has enough leftover for supper too. #3. Fresh food- everything is made fresh. We had the beef and the ribs. Loved the 3 types of sauce they served--all good! Collards are from the farmers market down the road, Mac and cheese is made from scratch and the baked beans have loads of meat in them, which I loved. The guy helping us said the baked beans are what they go through the most of. We also tried the Lima beans and rice which I really enjoyed. #4. Dessert- if you eat in, you get banana pudding, complimentary. I mean, it doesn't get any better than that. #5. Don't expect fancy- as I said, its a hole in the wall. Look for the polka dotted pig in the front. You'll eat off styrofoam plates, use paper towels for napkins, and sit at an air conditioned picnic table inside. It's a cute little spot...give 'em a try! They DO NOT serve fresh shrimp! Got the shrimp dinner and had a couple of BAD tasting shrimp to where I couldn't even swallow it. Called right after to complain that the shrimp was FOUL tasting and was told to bring the portion up the next day. In doing so I was turned away because i didnt bring back a full meal with the bad shrimp mixed in. If I was aware of bad shrimp being mixed in ONE I would have NEVER ate there and TWO I would have brought it all back. I thought I was getting some fresh food but it wasnt and they didnt want to do ANYTHING about it so I was just out of luck. I advise A HEALTH DEPARTMENT to look in on how their "fresh shrimp" is really being stored because it AINT fresh if it's been frozen! read more

Great tasting BBQ. Good family friendly, wallet happy, quantity right, hole in the wall place. The BBQ beans have got the be the best I have ever had., and, my ribs were the definition of tender, and very flavorful. I tried the sauces, but the ribs really didn't need any at all. I did put some on my garlic bread and that was yummy too. My kids & mother all got a pork sandwich and mac & cheese / or beans and were very pleased with their meals too. I took home a rib sandwich for my husband, and his was 'trimmed' and was not at all like the ones I had had at the restaurant. Still good, but small. He wanted another cup of beans --- so, we will have to go back. Very small restaurant. So, it is definitely not a place for a group larger than 6 (only two tables for 6) the rest were for 4 & 2. After a work event, a few of us went here for lunch. I had the turkey platter with fried okra, mac&cheese and toast. The fried okra was some of the best; not too salty and not slimy (sometimes hard to do). the choice between BBQ sauces was ok and the mac&cheese was bland. The sweet tea was ok, but they only had pink lemonade (no Arnold Palmer that day...::tear::). We had a private room, but it had a light mildew smell. It's worth another try. read more

WHERE'S THE BEEF??? I am sick of the excuses. No Beef...because it's hard to get, because it's too expensive, because of the drought...give me a break. FYI, another nail in your coffin was the day you decided to smoke two chicken finger meals instead of frying them. When I inquired where all the juice went off to that's normally in the wonderful, hand made /breaded fried chicken fingers you sell, you said "I'd be happy to take that order back bread those fingers and give them a go in the deep fryer". You really think the solution to a "smoked-to-death" chicken finger is giving it time to rehydrate in a bath of 350 degree oil? My 8 year old even got a laugh out of that one. That was a great day wasting 20$ on the boy's dinners. I know family business is important and all but please get someone who can make a decision in charge over on Herlong. DHS employees can afford a 12$ sandwich. It is a mystery that it requires such a price though when I can make it at home factoring in retail meat prices for less than you can sell it. Portions are generous so if this style BBQ suits you then it's a good deal. I found the pork dry with a smokey taste that overpowered the flavor. Ribs- a little fatty but fall off the bone. Smoke Sausage- nice flavors and juicy. Turkey- also moist and smokey. Beef- good flavor however it was dry. A little too dry. The lima beans are good and are mixed with rice. The collards are pretty tasty. Third best recipe I've had (Mom is #1, Mojo's is a solid #2) Mac and cheese is on the dry side. Not my favorite. I used to come to another restaurant of this chain. Off the I-10 and desided to try this place. It looks similar. This place little smaller then other one but still good. Customer service here was ok 3.5 out of 5 I was surprised that they charge here first then give you food. I ordered pulled port and it was little dry and portion is not biggest. If you want more of it get dinner plate it's bigger. It would be nice to have toothpicks here. I am surprised they don't have any. And cashier said many people ask about it. read more

Our favorite BBQ location. We seriously don't go anywhere else and why would we? This is insanely awesome food. I'm vegetarian so I don't partake in the meat but from what hubby and father in law tell me....its the best. But I have had their sides. The coleslaw is really good. Its not too sweet or too vinegary. The potato salad is just right also. This is a dry rub BBQ so you have to ask for wet sauce to add to it. The only downside is it needs a bigger location! That place at lunch or dinner is packed to the max. They even have a pink pig out front that the kiddos can take pics with. Great BBQ! I regularly get a half chicken platter with two sides. Their collards are delicious and the meat is never disappointing. Always tender and falls off the bone. Their sauces are a nice touch, but the meat is seasoned nicely and is often fine without. Their pork is ALWAYS ON POINT: moist and flavorful! Whether you prefer pulled, sliced, or on the rib; it will satisfy. Their sides are typical for any BBQ establishment, however, they do put a special touch to the ingredients to make the side their own. The Herlong location is a little out of the way and a little difficult to find if you're not familiar with the area. But they make up for it being prepared to cater your large events and have their own food truck at the ready! They may not look like much from the outside, but if you come hungry they make up for it with portion size and food quality! read more

I'm from the north and was driving past here in my way back up to Philadelphia. Let me say.... I am glad I did. The meat here was really awesome. The food was amazing. The bbq sauce they had was brown gold in a bottle. The only thing that kept me giving them a five star was the cleanliness. They could wipe tables (with a cleansing agent and clean paper towel) a little more often. The place is cool though. They have a really sketchy back room where people sign their names on the walls etc. The front is where we say and ate and I really didn't pay attention to much other than the brisket and those ribs. read more

Worth the drive! I have only come here for lunch and every time I enjoy the heck out of some good, down home BBQ. You know it's good when every police officer and fire fighter in the area show up here to eat too. You can smell the smoked meat outside and your mouth starts watering. I love their turkey and their homemade sides like collard greens and baked beans. The sweet tea is perfect and the banana pudding ain't bad either. We're not coming back. We keep getting bad service or one of us gets badly cooked food. They are close to us and locally owned, I'm disappointed they can't get their shit together. Kids meals are over priced. Hubby loves the turkey. When I was pregnant I got the steak and it was greasy!! How can a steak be greasy! Made me sick. Tonight I got the beef and it was super dry. Requested pork instead. Not only did they lose the order and my whole family was done eating, two to go orders came in and went out and my husband had to go remind them we were waiting. They should have given us $2 back since pork is cheaper than beef. To add insult to injury, they brought a free thing of meat to the guy in front of us to try and a free appetizer to the table next to us, I guess because they had an issue with the sauce on the table. We were the only three tables there!!! My husband said he had been a handful of times in the last 6 months and twice they completely lost his ticket.
