My girlfriend has to visit Stanford Medical twice a year we found this place. OMG so good we always have the carpaccio which we share. Then we may have a pasta or something we can share. I really like Penne Arrabiata really good with a nice spice. Services is great. Very friendly waiters. We always eat upstairs outside but we usually go for lunch. Lunch until 2 so we try and make it into town way before that. It's also fun to sit at the bar. We have been going for probably 3-4 years. read more

I went here to celebrate my birthday and ordered the Boeuf Bourguignon for my companion and me expecting the rich, hot hearty Italian stew flavored with red wine and a variety of aromatics. Although the beef was tender It had no wine or aromatic flavor and lacked even a single mushroom. Having made this dish using several recipes with great success this was indeed a huge disappointment. It appeared to me that the chef braised the beef in water, added a few carrots, and lots of salt, and called it done. Since my last visit, the roomy and comfortable banquettes have vanished to be replaced with tables and chairs to accommodate more clients. This has increased the noise level to the point of obstructing our conversations. On the plus side, the owner gave me an excellent tiramisu for dessert and the service was excellent. . . read more

I think this place is more in the business of running customers out the front door than bringing business in. Its unfortunate how rude and condescending the staff here can be. Seems as though the owner and his staff have a chip on their shoulder. I love supporting small local businesses but this one has a lot of fundamentals to learn if they want to keep the doors open. Wow traditional, delicious, friendly staff, great service. It is quite nice. It's very nice to dine in or on the patio. It's a more of a classy intimate setting here. This is an old-school restaurant that reflects how Menlo Park used to be. If you take the time to get to know the owner and staff and treat them with respect, then they'll go the extra mile. We held a very special family event here and Kurt could not have been more accommodating, even though I made several changes to the menu. I stumbled upon this place with my coworker after work one day. We were in the mood for something feeling it LOL and Italian sounded like just the thing. I got the chicken sun-dried tomato pesto pasta which was around $20. Quite tasty indeed but a little bit on the pricey side. My coworker got the clam spaghetti with lemon and garlic which was very flavorful and tasted pretty fresh. That was about $23. We got bread as an appetizer paired with balsamic vinegar, olive oil, black pepper. And a glass of wine each. Our total bill ended up being about $40 or so each... We went to Trellis last night for an early Mothers Day Dinner. I haven't been there in a few years, and I have a mom who only eats a few things, and sisters who are more open. Everyone loved their food-- tiger prawns, chicken piccata. I loved my scallops. We loved the calamari appetizer. The apple tort was good, not as sweet as I expected. The coffee was hot and delicious. The service was great- very friendly. Even as it got busier through the evening we didn't feel rushed and could enjoy good conversation. Overall it was a great evening! read more

I haven't eat at this restaurant but the owner is very rude while my daughter with me .. terrified from his screaming/threatening us and using foul languages .. stating we are using his restaurant parking spot and there's a sign. The parking spot we parked is the next building that most tenant moved out, that's not even his business establishment to begin with. We discovered this restaurant over fifteen years ago and left with a great first impression. Not sure how or why we forgot about it until recently, but thank goodness that we rediscovered it. The service is nice and the food is good. Plates are clearly served with time and care in great presentations (the Endive salad w/ beers, oranges & red onion vinaigrette is so pretty! ). In addition to the front bar, they have at least three or four different dining areas, one of which is an outdoor patio upstairs which is nice to lunch at during a sunny day. The front dining room with the window facing El Camino Real has a glass sliding door that appears to be handy for closing off the room for private parties without giving the guests a stuffy feeling of a small, enclosed room, separated from the rest of the restaurant. Recommendations: Susan's downfall - tasty and creamy with a crunch from the toasted almonds. It's my son's favorite, but too rich for those who are lactose intolerant. Fettuccine Carbonara - delicious and the noodles are perfectly al dente. Spaghetti Bolognese - I rarely order this dish because I am so picky with my bolognese, but I would order this dish here. From the taste, you can tell that the sauce simmered for hours and the hint of red wine is just right. Sautéed Prawns w/ garlic, white wine-lemon sauce & herbs - it tastes as good as it sounds. When I first wrote reviews, I focused on places that provided good or bad experiences and left out those places that fell in between. I later realized that if other reviewers did this, we'd all miss out on important feedback. Trellis is of those places that fits in the middle. Most of the dishes we had were ok but not worth having again. Among the decent dishes were fettuccini with prawns, pork tenderloin, and pasta with mushrooms. Well I thought it was a cute place. If you're driving by you might miss it though, it looks so small from El Camino but we went in the back way and the downstairs area is nice and pretty spacious, upstairs patio was SO cute, and quiet and relaxing. I didnt like the bread, I thought it tasted funny but my boyfriend said it was the best bread he's ever eaten so, different strokes. The owner? Kurt? Came to each table to say a hello and chat for a second. That was nice. The food was very good, I had cappellini which was very yummy and my bf had the rib eye which was cooked perfectly and tasted great! Our drinks were really good too.. long island and lemon drop. Price: Way too expensive for what they are providing: Overall, if you care more about aesthetics than the taste of food, and don't care about splurging when you eat out, you may enjoy this spot. I needed to arrange a place for dinner for 12-20 people with a couple days' notice, and the owner was so enthusiastic and accommodating. We ended up being 14 and a long table was arranged downstairs. Service was perfect and everybody was very happy with their food. I had the carbonara; the pancetta was especially amazing. My seatmates loved their risotto. A large table can be a challenge but they managed it handily. I can confirm Trellis is good for groups. read more

I'm a Menlo Park resident and would very likely have frequented Trellis at some point but after the owner's behavior today there is absolutely 0 chance of ever trying this place. My wife was picking up dinner today next door and was literally in and out in 2 minutes. When she arrived and parked the owner of Trellis was hovering over his parking spots (apparently he has nothing better to do - like serve customers) and got right in her face to yell at her about parking in "his" parking spots. He could have nicely pointed out his sign and been courteous about this. He did this before having any idea whether she was going to Trellis or not. He does have every right to point out "his" parking spots but to be in the hospitality business and to do it in a hostile and aggressive manner before even knowing whether someone is going to his business is just ridiculous. Sure enough she was back out in 2 minutes as the food was ready and he was in her face (while maskless) again. Apparently he had no clients to attend to in his restaurant. He's beyond lucky it was my wife there and not me because I wouldn't have dealt with that nonsense quite as graciously as she did. There are many great restaurants with great owners in Menlo Park that you should frequent and support. Trellis is not one of them. read more

We reserved the outdoor rooftop patio for my dad's 80th birthday and the venue and staff were so fabulous and wonderful!!!! The food was delicious, drinks were good (I'm told as I didn't drink), allergies were accommodated, flexible seating, fussy kids were treated so well, I can't say enough about how amazing Trellis is. Kurt was fantastic to work with and I highly recommend this place for large groups. It was private, beautiful, sunny and warm; we didn't even need heat lamps in December! Went again last night and were not disappointed!! We love the warm bread while we are deciding what to order. We landed on the endive, orange and beet salad to start. Thick slices of oranges, wedges of plump slightly pickled beets, and full leaves of endive in a light and delicious vinaigrette. It felt like a pasta night so I got the capellini with tomatoes, garlic and basil. So delicious topped with a generous sprinkle of Parmesan! My guy selected the fettuccine carbonara with peas and pancetta. Both were generous portions and perfectly prepared. We decided on dessert, chocolate mousse and zabaglione. The mouse was creamy and light but dense enough to be decadent. The zabaglione had blueberries and strawberries. I should have taken a picture but I was too busy savoring the delicious food and friendly conversation with Murat. He has great suggestions and always makes a point to say hello!! We had our department holiday lunch at Trellis today. The food continues to be outstanding. The staff is so welcoming and attentive. We had the Calamari and Bruschetta appetizers. Delicious! I had the Veal Scaloppini with lemon caper sauce as did several others, all loved it. Others had the Beef Bourguignon, Susan's downfall (home made raviolis in gorgonzola cream sauce) and Gnocchi Aurora. Everyone enjoyed their choices. Took my CEO here for lunch. It was so bizarre...we walked in at 11:30 for our reservation and there was literally no one to be found. I actually had to go into the kitchen and ask the chef if he could find someone to help us! Finally, we found someone to help us and we were seated on the patio upstairs. The patio is a nice space, it's a little less formal than the dining room downstairs. We ordered the calamari for an appetizer. Honestly, this was probably one of the best calamaris I have ever had! For my entree I ordered the salmon. It was OK. It was served on a bed of greens with a few pieces of cheese and grapes. Wish the salad had more going on, it was pretty bland. No dressing or anything. Probably wouldn't go out of my way to check this place out again. Parking is also a pain! read more

The food here is fantastic! It is only surpassed by the kindness of the owner and the staff. We have been coming here for years and have never been disappointed. The ambiance is great on the upstairs patio and in the restaurant. My favorites are the chicken scallopini, polenta and spaghetti with clams! The rigatoni with sausage is also great. You must try the zabaione. It is the best I've ever had. The chocolate mousse is also great! You can't go wrong eating at Trellis! read more
