Everything about this place had me head over heels in love with it. From the decor and ambiance to the overall service and the food, Vino Santo Bistro is definitely top tier Italian dining. While celebrating the year's end with my father-in-law's company shareholders, we experienced some of the best Italian cuisine the Bistro had to offer. We started off with drinks and apps, most notably, the shrimp bordelaise which showcased deliciously plump and juicy shrimp in a white wine demi-glaze. Perfectly paired with the house made bread basket for the table... and let me tell you, this was the fluffiest, most delicious tasting homemade bread I've ever had. It's like plopping a warm, buttery, bread flavored cloud into your mouth. #CarbsOnCarbs. For my meal, I opted for the calamari steak. And while it was the last dish brought to the table, it was still worth the wait! The calamari was delicately breaded and tender, without being rubbery or drowned in sauce. The veggies were fresh, crisp and not over cooked. All deserving of the highest praises and compliments. We all closed out the experience with a broad selection of delectable desserts and coffee drinks. My financé opted for a decently sized and perfectly prepared tiramisu and I couldn't turn down a timeless classic, like crème brulee. The crème brulee was the perfect consistency! Not too custardy, not too thin and perfectly topped with a crispy, sugary and freshly torched "crust." While the wait staff could have been a little more attentive to what people ordered, other than that the service was excellent. Our drinks were almost never empty and everything was brought to the table piping hot and fully loaded. For a party of 7 that is quite a testament to Vino Santo Bistro. 9/10, looking forward to coming back and exploring more of the menu!

Food is delicious and the service is amazing. Great place for a date or with friends and family.

I came here because I worked with the owner once (so this may be a slightly biased review) ! Our whole team came here to eat lunch together, and it was really good food ! It is not the biggest restaurant, however, because of its size and the fact that it is in downtown Redwood City, it just gives the coziest vibes ever ! The service was also good (probably because their boss was with us haha but we felt well taken care of) and it felt like this place could be a really good date night kind of place ! I would be open to trying this restaurant again.

Interesting lobster ravioli. I had a lot of people telling me it looked like there wasn't much on my plate. The ravioli is quite flat too. Not a lot of stuffing. The sauce tasted good and the rock shrimp was nice. I was full because of the calamari and bread. Calamari was really good! And I enjoyed both red and white dipping sauce a lot actually.

If you want to have a drink or two outside, enjoying good weather and watching the Broadway scene, don't miss Vino Santo. They have a good wine list and use Riedel glasses to make your experience even more enjoyable. Also, their sparkling wines and Champagne are always perfectly bubbly, as if the cork was just popped.

Nice and fancy Italian restaurant in the busy streets of Redwood City downtown. Very professional staff with accommodating dietary restrictions. Our order: Kale and Beet Salad - light and refreshing - ask for candied walnuts on top it adds another dimension to the salad Tortellini - tortellini was sooo creamy - very soft stuffing - mushrooms were delicious - very heavy Gnocchi - our waiter recommended the Gnocchi and honestly was pretty decent - not worth the $26 given how lackluster the dish was - the gnocchi balls itself were good (handmade) but might've been better with a light sauce - the marinara sort of suppressed the dish Cab Sav Coffee Stout Honest review (3.9)

    The BEST lobster ravioli!!!

This restaurant is located near my work so I have dined here several times for lunch. The last time I visited, I ordered off their special lunch menu, which offers 2 courses for $22. I opted for a tomato salad and the spaghetti bolognese. While the food was fresh and tasted fine, I instantly regretted not getting the lobster ravioli. It's my favorite dish at Vino Santo! At $28 it is definitely not an everyday splurge, but trust me, the vodka cream sauce is so good! Even though it's a cream sauce, it's not heavy at all. I always use the bread, which is no longer complimentary, to sop up the leftover sauce. I would probably lick the plate clean if I could! The service here is also very good. We're always on a time crunch during our lunch break so it's nice we're able to get in and out without being late back to work, even though it's a white tablecloth sit down kind of place. They also have the best mints that you can help yourself to on the way out!

    Gnocchi with pink pasta

Lunch combo is a great deal with a salad/ appetizer with a pasta for $22. A few of us wanted to get other items on the regular menu: lobster ravioli and gnocchi. I was happy that they were able to change my sauce to pink sauce. On the menu it offers pesto, marinara, or Gorgonzola. Also, loved that they offer to grate fresh Parmesan cheese on your dishes. Service was great and the food came out quickly. I would definitely come again to try other items.

Wow this place was amazing! From the ambiance, service, and food - this place checked all the boxes. This would be a cute date or celebratory spot. We ordered: 1. Tortellini carbonara (5/5) $20 You have the option to have the tortellini or regular noodles. I chose the tortellini because it was stuffed with cheese! This dish was delicious....the white sauce was great along with the mushrooms, peas, bacon, and cheese fillings. 2. Lobster ravioli (5/5) $26 This portion isn't as big, but it was loaded with flavor! 3. 2 glasses of wine the waiter recommended. I wish I remembered what it was called because it was really good. ($13 each) 4. Amaretto cheesecake (3/5) $8 It was a nice presentation, but it wasn't as good as it looked. Parking: There's no immediate parking in front as they blocked off the main road for outdoor dining. I parked around the corner ($1 per hour). Service: Service was amazing here. Very attentive and friendly servers. We sat there for a long time talking, but not once did we feel like they were rushing us to leave/finish. The only thing I wish I knew was to pre-order the soufflés!! They only have it on the weekends, but you can request it on a weekday if you call in advanced since it's a 45 min-1 hour prep time. Overall, I'll definitely be back and I'd highly recommend this restaurant!

Unfortunately, this visit felt like a restaurant that's lost some of its spark. Happy hour was actually a pleasant surprise. The prices are excellent and make it easy to sample a variety of dishes. The Polpette and prosciutto with melon were enjoyable, but the croquettes were forgettable. The mussels and shrimp didn't taste particularly fresh, which was disappointing. The chicken had an unusual texture--somewhere between a chicken nugget and a crab cake. It just wasn't for me, The biggest letdown was the Bigoli e Coda. The pasta still had its signature chewy texture, but the sauce felt oily instead of rich, the braised oxtail lacked the deep, slow-cooked flavor I remembered, and the entire dish desperately needed seasoning. It used to be one of those dishes I'd recommend without hesitation. Not anymore. The seafood entrée was probably the strongest dish of the night, but even there it fell short. The fish was properly cooked, yet the skin lacked the crisp, golden finish that makes a skin-on fillet so satisfying. It was another dish that felt underseasoned and never quite came to life. That was really the theme of the evening: almost everything felt underseasoned. Nothing was inedible--it just lacked the vibrant flavors and careful execution that made Donato stand out years ago. I'm hoping this was simply an off night because Donato has earned a lot of goodwill over the years. But when a longtime favorite no longer tastes like the restaurant you remember, it's hard not to leave a little disappointed.

I had visited once before and also remembered ordering take-out from them a few years ago. I wasn't super impressed by them back then, but was open to seeing if I would have an improved opinion of them. Roma ITALIAN CUISINE is a casual dining spot that serves authentic dishes at Menlo Park's main drag, Santa Cruz Avenue. They offer both indoor, comfy quarters and sidewalk seating options equipped with heat lamps. Their warm, neighbourhood vibe with white-tablecloth comfort provides a relaxed atmosphere ideal for unwinding. Mom called Roma shortly after 7:30 PM to see if they had a table for five available for us. No problem, so we headed straight to the restaurant and arrived around 7:45 PM. We were quickly seated and served iced water. Unfortunately, we had to return 1.5 rounds of the water because the glasses were dirty. Mom asked our waitress/server #1 for sliced lemon for our water to which she was told that the kitchen ran out of lemons. Interestingly, our waiter/server#2 brought out the requested slices. This was the waitress' strike #1. Roma's cuisine is more traditional than trendy, serving an array of classic Northern Italian inspired dishes. In addition to the warm, soft complimentary bread, below are what we had for dinner: GNOCCHI ($27) + grilled chicken ($11) - The green pesto looked richly tasty and the potato dumplings looked plump and pillowy. V was a fan of his dish. SQUID INK PESCATORE ($38) - Both Mom and Z ordered this PASTA, but Z requested to substitute the clams with more of the other seafoods. Initially, we were told by the waitress/server #1 that there would be an extra charge for subbing the clams, but our waiter/server #2 ensured that where was no such surcharge. Strike #2 for waitress #1. Initial misinformation aside, Z and Mom were happy with their orders. LASAGNA ($30) - Substantial in size. Chaz finished every bite with enjoyment. POLLO MARSALA ($32) - Very good. I was pleasantly surprised to finally enjoy a dish at Roma. Service kicked off with major disappointment due to our waitress'/server#1's falsifications. Mom was extremely displeased by her which was completely understandable. Thankfully, our waiter/server #2 was much more helpful and friendly. He saved our dinner experience...and my opinion of Roma did, indeed, improve.

At first, I wished it were a little crispier, but I realized some pieces were cooked better than others (would prefer if all pieces were crispy!). It was one of those dishes that got better the more I ate it and I think I enjoyed it so much because of the sauce it came with. For our mains, we ordered the fettuccine oxtail or short rib?? pasta and the Doppio pizza and both were solid. It's been hard finding good pizza and pasta around here so I'm glad we found a nearby spot for Italian food!

This has become a place we go to every time we're in the area. This time we had:…read more 1. Bread and oil/vinegar. The first basket is free, then they charge $2.50 for each additional basket. The bread is pretty good--baked in house daily, they say. 2. Fave e Cavolo, $15. Very good! Tuscan kale with shaved parmiggiano reggiano on fava puree. 3. Cauliflower, $15. Lightly battered and fried cauliflower florets, parmiggiano reggiano, Calabrian chili aioli, fried basil. Pretty good! Not overly battered or oily. 4. Il Polpo, $19. Octopus, arugula, cherry tomatoes, garbanzo bean puree, arugula. I only had the salad portion, but it was very good! My dining companions enjoyed the octopus. 5. Nectarine salad, $15. Excellent, as always! Still one of the best (or the best) salads I've had. I have to order this every time I come. It is somewhat sizable, so could easily be shared between 2-3 people unless you want to make this the bulk of your meal. 6. Spaghetti Pescatore, $26. Pretty good! Slightly spicy tomato sauce, calamari rings, octopus slices. 7. Pulcinella Pizza, $23. Very good/excellent! Probably my favorite pizza here (Margherita is also very good). Tender chunks of eggplant, mozzarella, tomato sauce, little bit of pesto here and there, and some shreds of ricotta salata. 8. Tiramisu, $10. A cup of creamy tiramisu. Nice espresso flavor, but I would have liked more ladyfingers in proportion to the amount of creamy filling/topping. 9. Limoncello cake, $14. Sicilian lemon sponge cake, mascarpone, white chocolate curls, and berries. Excellent! Probably my favorite dessert here. Good balance of sweet, fruity, creamy, tangy. 10. Mango sorbet. Excellent! 11. Cannolo. Excellent, although I'm not really a cannolo person and so didn't love it for myself. This was an excellent cannolo, though! 12. Tartufo (I think) Chocolate/hazelnut ice cream. Very good! 13. Truffle fries, $12. Very good! Overall, my favorite things were the Pulcinella pizza, nectarine salad, and the limoncello cake. Those three alone would be a perfect meal for me.
