I've always lived in Redwood City but I haven't tried all the restaurants in/around the downtown area yet. I decided to try Donato because I saw that they had Happy Hour from 4-6:30pm. The cocktails were superb; they had the right amount of alcohol without tasting bitter. I didn't think I would like the Penicillin drink because the liquor was whiskey, but it tasted perfect and fruity, and so did the spritz. I also enjoyed a light lager. We ordered two of the mini burgers from the happy hour menu; the meat wasn't as moist as I'd like it to be, but the mustard really tied it together. I have to say the fries were absolutely delicious, the potato flavor wasn't overly greasy or salty like most placed make their french fries. Service was paced well, we didn't feel rushed and were able to relax. I will definitely be returning for happy hour!!

Honestly a horrible experience. We got there at 6:50 PM for a 7 PM reservation and there was already a line. We found out people with 6:30 reservations hadn't even checked in yet. When we finally got to the host around 7:10 we asked them to text us when the table was ready so we didn't have to crowd the front. Instead at 7:40 PM I got an email saying my reservation was cancelled. We ran back to the front and they said it was a mistake and they cancelled the wrong person with my name. We finally got seated but the service was just as messy. Our server Kenya was friendly but it took 20 minutes just to order food. The whole dinner took 3 hours, we didn't leave until 10 PM. We got the $97 4 course meal and it was a let down. The Antipasti Crostone di uovo e tartufo had a rich truffle taste but was not warm at all. The Primi was the Tortino di pasta ai Carciofi e pecorino. It tasted good but again, was cold. The Secondi Controfiletto ai porri e patate croccanti was probably the best choice and had a nice crispy potato, but it wasn't warm either. Finally for Dolce we had the Bacio di Dama. We waited 20 minutes just for dessert. Since it's a set menu you would think the cookies would be fresh since they have to crank them out, but it was a hard solid piece of cookie. The chocolate ganache wasn't good either. They clearly overbooked the restaurant and couldn't handle it. What a terrible way to spend Valentines. I won't be returning given the price point.

Great service, walked in on a Friday without a reservation during dinner time and the hostess was able to seat us quickly. Our waiter did a good job walking us through the menu and giving suggestions. The pizza was solid, would order again. The wine selection was large, a bit pricey if you are not a wine expert.

Honestly, this review is frustrating to write because Donato Enoteca is such a beautiful space. The restaurant itself is huge with multiple dining pockets, gorgeous wine displays, and a really upscale atmosphere that makes you expect an amazing meal. The best thing we had all night was the mussels appetizer. The red sauce was genuinely phenomenal and the toasted bread with it was perfect. That dish alone gave me high hopes. Unfortunately, almost everything after that missed the mark. The branzino was deconstructed tableside, which was a nice touch, but the fish itself was thin, underwhelming, and still had bones throughout it. Then when we asked for more of the bread from the mussel dish, we got this giant puffed pita-style bread instead, which totally confused us. The salad barely resembled a salad. There were maybe a handful of arugula leaves with scattered toppings, and it just didn't feel balanced or thought out. Then dessert came out cold, stale, and to make matters worse, there was literally a bug in the sauce. The wine was good and the service team itself was friendly, but the meal felt like one strange disappointment after another. Maybe this place shines more with traditional Italian dishes, but based on this experience I don't think I'd come back.

After learning of our disappointing experience on Valentine's Day, Donato (the restaurant owner) reached out to personally apologize and invite us back to give them a second chance. I'm very glad we took him up on the offer! The food was incredible. Our waitress, Kenya, was very knowledgable about the menu and made great recommendations. Our favorites of the evening included the beef carpaccio appetizer, casonsei pasta, grilled sea bass fillet, and roasted pork chop. We also enjoyed the seasonal Easter cake for dessert. The flavors were spectacular and we'd definitely return for some of these dishes alone! The entire staff was very attentive and showed exemplary service across the board. We noticed many regular customers greeted by name which led us to believe it is a very welcoming, warm establishment where you are treated as more than just a reservation. They truly care for the people they serve. The whole team went above and beyond to host us for the night and we were very impressed with the level of care they showed. The kind gesture does not go unnoticed and we will certainly return for another visit.

Recently went to Donato, I have to say the Happy Hour Menu is a BIG hit. We ordered: Fig and Prosciutto skewers: both ingredient balance each other, the fig makes the prosciutto tastes even better. Gambero All'Aglio: shrimp soaked up all the yummy oil emulsion which gives the prawn a tangy paprika taste. Polpetta: meatball is ideally formed bite size, it's coated with cheese and tomato sauce, which is heaven in my mouth. Crochette Di Patate: the crispy croquettes is super cute with the presentation, taste is great too. My least favorite happy hour item is the Bocconcini di merluzzo: cod fritters: a bit greasy and taste is not as amazing as other dishes. For entree We had: Vegetarian dumplings: very soft in texture, taste great. They are willed with potato and cheese. Pan Pizza: this is not what we normally think pizza is, a bit messy to eat. The pizza is crispy on the bottom, prosciutto gives the saltiness to the taste. Agnolotti is our favorite entree: it's filled with sausage. It's soaked in the oil but won't make you feel unpleasant at all. It looks very simple, but taste is very great. Highly recommend.

Came in for an early dinner at around 5pm for 2 people on a Friday night, and stayed for almost 2 hours. Restaurant was near empty when we came in but filled up after 5:30. We had a blast! Service was wonderful, we had plenty of check-ins throughout the meal. We had apps, 2 entrees, and dessert. Each course is well-paced and goes by fast with some wine and good company. Our server was kind enough to request our pasta already split into separate plates, which we appreciated. Everything was super delicious and it's hard to pick just a standout, but if I had to pick one it would be the slow braised beef cheek. Every bite melts in your mouth, and the flavors are amazing. We also wanted to try the prix fixe, but unfortunately we were too early before it was early (server recommended to come around 5:30 for the prix fixe). We'll definitely be back to try this!

The food was so delicious. We started off w/ the charcuterie board. Great & fresh tasting sausages. All made in house. The pita bread was baked to perfection as well. Fresh & homemade. For my entree, I got the pork chop delight. So tender, & juicy w/ seasonal veg. Lastly the vanilla bean Panna Cotta was such a great ending to the meal. So light & refreshing. Service was just as good. He was very kind, and helpful. Ambiance was nice w/ a lot of seating. Nice Italian vibe.

Food was delicious, we had kind of frito mixto, lamb meat ball, grilled octopus (excellent) , oxtail stuffed ñoqui with spinach and white sauce, ricotta canelones ,sparkling wine ,tonic water, delicious lemoncelo , a new version of ice cream tiramisu and espresso , no disappointment at all (sorry no food picture I was distracted) we arrived around 4 pm and was a happy hour (4pm to 6:30pm) and dinner start at 5pm. The hosstes, so nice , she offered to have a table in the bar and then at 5pm moving us to the dining area, and we accepted. the service in the bar with Ventura was so good and pleasant , if you are looking for a place with a nice personality and a good bartender this is your place, for that reason we didn't go to the dinning area at 5pm, we stay in the bar for dinner . At that time ventura got help and Eugenia takes over our table, also another very good service and actitud, she was very nice and attentive. They deserve 10, please take care them and don't let them go, is no easy to find that kind the person working in hospitality. The place look really nice and super clean. I like the style and decor also the bar have some TVs and patio. definitely I will return to enjoy more of the delicious dishes and the excellent service. thank you very much Ventura and Eugenia for tonight you guys gave us a beautiful night and experience , oh... I must've to mention another sweet lady , sorry I don't remember her name but she is Italian and also speaks spanish, very nice and sweet thank you again to all of you. See you soon

ALICI FRITTE - Monterey Bay anchovies, BACCALA MANTECATO -salted cod/squid ink polenta & POLPO E PANTESCA -grilled octopus
    Teresa C.

Why the 5 star because of the food! It's elegantly plated, a mouthful of flavor, innovative, and satifiying, especially for the Bay Area with dishes you can't get anywhere (unless you go to Venice, Italy)! Listen, I have been dining and Yelping for a long time now and let's face it, what ultimately makes restaurants is, the food! OF COURSE the renovation is wonderful here too and well done! I went to the re-GRAND opeing of Donato's and had 5 dishes: ALICI FRITTE, POLPO E PANTESCA, BACCALA MANTECATO, CARNE SALADA and LA NOSTRA BRUSCHETTA with 3 desserts: ZUPPETTA DI FRAGOLE, TORTA AL LIMONE E OLI, and TIRAMISU NUOVO. So yes, I did not try all the dishes but a good mix. My friend who came with me is very open minded and adventurous when it comes to food. We ordered the only dish that I thought, "well, should we get this too?", which was the Bruschetta, The "LA NOSTRA BRUSCHETTA ". It was so fresh and juicy, I was so glad we had ordered this too. I loved the Baccala, it was so smooth, delicate and yummy; I could have had another plate. For the desserts, again the uniqueness came through with the ZUPPETTA DI FRAGOLE. The peas! Yes, they made it so aesthetically appealing and the sugar crunch on the peaches was so divine. Sorry, I don't like to write long long reviews but I JUST have to add our drinks .... The signature drink for the night, was the L'TALIANO. It was surprisingly, savory. It complimented the food, super balanced and all in a martini glass :) We also had a classic martini and a bottle of Bellone white wine - outstanding! My compliments to the staff and bar but especially to the talented Chef Marco! Go enjoy, manga bene at this culinary gem of food from Venice!

We love having a local Italian establishment like Donato's to go to for happy hour, appetizers, dinners and celebrations. They revamped their menu starting August 2025 and it's small plates like tapas. We were curious to go back to try it. The new chef is from Poesia in San Francisco. While the move to modern, small-portion Italian food is an interesting concept, it feels like a bit of a risk outside of a major city like SF. I personally love Italian comfort food and when I want dinner I want a dinner portion and not a bunch of tapas to fill my belly. Here is some feedback on our recent experience with the new menu: Colore Croccante salad: The "pork belly" listed on the menu was actually guanciale (pork cheek), served as small fried chips. The texture and flavor were not what we were expecting, as we were anticipating the meatier, richer profile of pork belly. The Jimmy Nardello Peppers were unfortunately overcooked and too soft. The natural sweetness and delicate flavor of these peppers are best when they are cooked lightly. Polpo e Pantesca: they did a great job cooking the octopus. They used a lot of capers and olives which were very salty. Maybe they need to rinse a bit of the salt out because they are a great ingredient, but shouldn't be so salty that you don't enjoy eating them. Branzino in Padella: This was the only dish that felt like it could be a shared main course. The fish was slightly overcooked. A good chef should take care never to overcook seafood. There was way too much lemon sauce and it really didn't need oregano as it overpowers the freshness of a fish like a Branzino. Again lots of salty capers. Fresh fish needs very little seasoning. I remember when they served that fish with artichokes and it was incredible. One of the reasons this restaurant has been around so long is because Donato is there in the kitchen a lot. A chef/owner has to be there to oversee things. The new chef is going to have to watch over the dishes and make sure they are done right. A soft launch for the new menu might have been helpful, as we've heard from other customers that they're also finding the new menu to be inconsistent and still in flux. Keep Italian food classic and simple - give it your creativity too, but the core of the best Italian food is the classics. Wishing them much continued success and hope they find their way with the menu so we can go back and enjoy it.

    Handicapped parking? Where?

There are some handicapped parking spots available close to the restaurant.

    Is there a corkage fee?

Yes but I don't know the cost.

This restaurant was listed in SJ Mercury News's 50 Best Restaurants in East & South Bay. Some recommended dishes were Bigoli pasta with nebbiolo-baised ox-tail, crispy Niman Ranch pork belly, and Monterey Bay calamari. Any reviews please?

I have had the pleasure to dine there often, as recent as Wednesday Oct 16th (Dry Aged Ribeye). Additionally, I have had most of the appetizers, pizzas, entrees and desserts. You can’t go wrong with whatever you chooses. Great food, staff and…

Are the pizzas big enough to share for dinner (i.e. should I order 1 pizza for 2 people, or 2 pizzas for three people)? I'm planning a group dinner and am trying to estimate the cost.

I'd say if you order appetizers, 2-3.

June 2026 -- Santa Clara, CA Beer, Brats, Bladder Strategy…read more Pretty fun place. Good food. Great place to watch a World Cup soccer game. One word of warning: arrive with an empty bladder and a working relationship with patience, because the restroom line moves like it is being reviewed by a committee. Das Bierhauz is located right next to the VTA and Caltrain station, which makes it a very practical stop before heading to a game at Levi's Stadium. There is shaded outdoor seating and indoor seating, but this place fills up fast. Do not show up late and expect the universe to hand you a table. The universe has other appointments. The beer selection is very good. We got there around 6 PM before the Austria vs. Jordan World Cup match, and the stouts were already sold out. That tells you two things: people know what they are doing here, and you may need to move with purpose. Order the huge 20 oz glass if you want to have fun. It is not subtle. It announces itself. Food-wise, the combination appetizer is a strong move for a group of three or four. It comes with hummus, crushed eggplant, olives, a cucumber-yogurt-style dip, and other Mediterranean support staff. For the main dish, I recommend the veal knockwurst with fries. It was simple, filling, and did its job without trying to explain itself. The ordering system is where things get a little loose. Seating is basically self-directed, which means the bold inherit the tables. The line to order can feel scattered, although the menu is clearly posted above the cashier. You order, pay, receive one of those coaster number things, then sit down and trust that civilization will continue. To their credit, the staff found us with the beer and food without incident. There were TVs everywhere showing Argentina vs. Algeria, and with the international crowd in the room, the energy was like getting electrocuted by friendly aliens experimenting on how to make adrenaline surges in the body lightning fast. Loud, lively, and just the right amount of chaotic. Overall, I would give Das Bierhauz a 4 out of 5. I would not want to be here when it is absolutely packed, mostly because the queue system could become chaotic like a school of fish in a class on how to properly get into an auto accident. That said, the staff were reliable, the food was good, the beer was strong, and the location is hard to beat before a game.

Schnitzel was perfectly golden and the spatzle had a similar taste to mac n cheese. We also ordered the calamari and fried cauliflower apps, they were just okay. We had a large party of 15+ people and took up a couple tables. Staff were very friendly though and accommodated all our requests. Don't sleep on their Uber Eats tho, I've seen them do BOGOs before which is a great value

K&L has a respected, almost legendary status in San Francisco, but I still hadn't gone in. But…read moreyesterday I was right by the Redwood City location and went in. I was offered help and directed to chat with Aaron in the Mariners cap. I showed him a photo of my wife's favorite wine and said, "She loves this, but isn't a big wine drinker, so I'm looking for something she'll like that isn't $40 a bottle." He turned and walked straight over to a particular bottle and handed it to me. "Very similar, even has some of the same words on the label, and is only $20." I see from the label that it's specifically imported by them. Then I picked out a bottle of southern Italian red that got great reviews on Vivino. At checkout, Aaron kind of pulled it away from me and shook his head. Then he went and picked out a Sicilian one. I haven't tried either yet, but I really like this kind of service. This is what I need to refine what I like most. I expect to come back here with an update.

Seriously? The global wine market is collapsing, but K&L won't condescend to provide basic customer service. I'm happy to take my business elsewhere.

My friend made reservations so we were seated right away at 7pm on a Monday. Obviously, we had to ask our server about BTS's experience here and lo and behold, we were sitting in the exact same spot as they did. What are the odds??? Our server also kept us entertained with some fun BTS stories throughout the night which honestly made the experience even better. Shoutout to Jesse for indulging us and keeping the BTS hype alive! As for the food, we shared the butter lettuce and kale salads, the sausage and honey pizza, and the margherita pizza. The salads were surprisingly memorable, especially the jalapeno-pickled raisins! We were still a little hungry afterward so Jesse picked our third pizza for us: the seasonal peach and smoked applewood bacon pizza. Honestly, this was probably my favorite! The sweetness of the fresh peaches paired so well with the savory bacon and balsamic glaze. Each pizza had something unique going on and the ingredients tasted super fresh. My only critique is that the pizzas were all pretty loaded with toppings and sauce, making the slices a little droopy and soggy. Also, our group of 4 needed that third pizza to feel fully satisfied; but maybe we were just extra hungry that night! 4/5 for the food but 5/5 for the service and overall experience!
